Food was good! Experience not so much. The place is a bit small, tried going with a group of 8 on a Sunday around 1pm and we weren't able to get seats. Luckily we lived in the area so just made the order to go. Took a while to get our food, probably waited 30-40minutes. Service was a little confusing, I wanted to get fried rice on the side but they couldn't do that and they got one of my friends order wrong but my friend didn't catch the mistake on the receipt so she just ate it and didn't mind it. Restrooms were okay and although it seems Iike a lot of parking it gets packed. My recommendation, go when it's not busy, you'll have a better experience. I feel like Julie's noodles is such a classic place to grab a meal. Practically everyone I know has eaten here and so I made it my mission to try it out too. It's a smaller restaurant so I can see it getting busy very easily. But I went on a Sunday evening so we were able to find a spot relatively easy. You just order and pay and then find your own seat. And water, chili oil, utensils, etc are self serve too. I loved the texture of the scallion pancakes. The outside was crispy but the inside was so fluffy and soft. But it was a little lacking in flavor for me. I wish it either tasted more like scallions or had some more salt. Or came with a dipping sauce. But there was soy sauce at the table so, I just used that. The beef stewed noodles were pretty good too! The broth was a lot lighter than I expected. If you're looking for something light, it would be perfect. But if you're in the mood for something rich, this might not be the move. The beef was pretty tender. And the noodles were delicious. You can tell they're homemade and I love the bounce and chew of them. The noodles with meat and bean sauce were also good! The place is very clean and they have a great variety of noodle and dumpling dishes. We went two weeks ago and we both had the spicy beef noodle soup. We were warned that it was very spicy but we both like hot foods so we went for it. Holy cow!!!! We ate it all but coughed and blew our noses throughout the meal. A fire eaters delight! We returned today because we wanted to try something a little milder. I got the regular beef noodle soup and spiced it myself with three small scoops of their wonderful chili oil. Perfection! My partner wanted to try the dumplings and opted for the crab and pork soup dumplings. He got six dumplings but no soup?? So he was a little disappointed with his dish and was still hungry after the meal. You order at the counter and have a seat if you can find one and they bring your food to you. And I like that their payment screen doesn't even ask for a tip. Remember those days?!? It's a rather small place and if they have a crowd you order and then have to stand around in the middle of the tables waiting for a table to open up. So the set up is a little awkward. Simply delicious. Julie's Noodles takes me on a journey back to SGV in Cali. It's certainly a rarity for me to find the same quality Chinese noodle soup as back in LA so I am beyond thrilled to have discovered this place. I was so excited over the menu that I had trouble holding myself back from over ordering. The portions are huge here which I always appreciate. Here are some of the dishes I've tried so far - - Lamb Noodle Soup (5/5) - One of my favorite dishes here. The soup flavor is exactly what I want on cold gloomy days. I love how they include glass noodle, shredded tofu and even black fungus in the dish. - Spicy Beef Noodle (4.5/5) - Be warned. This is SPICY but yummy. The meat they use is like hot pot meat instead of the usual beef chunks - Beef Stew Noodle Soup (4/5) - This is essentially the same dish as the spicy noodle soup but without the spice. Definitely a good dish for non-spicy eaters - Pig Ear (5/5) - This was a standout dish for me. I absolutely love how thinly sliced these are. I've been to places where the cut was too thick and I wasn't as big of a fan. - Scallion Pancake (5/5) - It's simple but just how I imagined it to be - Beef Burrito (4.5/5) - They call it a burrito here but it's essentially a beef roll. Since I over ordered, I ate this the next day and it was still yummy. - Shredded Tofu Salad (5/5) - I always love me some shredded tofu salad so I'm happy they have this here and it reminds me of the ones I've had back in LA. - Pork and Chives Dumplings (4.5/5) - Who doesn't enjoy some tasty homemade dumplings Needless to say, I'm starting to become a regular at Julie's Noodles. Service is reasonably fast and straightforward. You order at the counter, and someone will bring out your food. Water and utensils are self serve. The restaurant is spacious, but it fills up fast when it's busy. I have only ever ordered the Spicy Beef Noodles and ran with it ever since. The broth is flavorful and smooth, and the noodles are satisfyingly chewy. The toppings (wood ear mushroom, tofu skin, etc.) add a variety to the texture, and is loaded (and I mean loaded.) with beef. The portions are also huge!!! A perfectly fine noodle shop tucked into the corner of a strip shopping center. This is a very casual almost street food type of place. You'll order your food, get a number and then pick a table. The atmosphere is extra relaxed. You'll wait a bit for your food, but they seem to stay busy so it's an understandable amount of waiting. The staff is pretty nice and I can't really ask for much else. So, while I would not go out of my way to come to this shop, the food is good. The spring onion pancake is thin, and served in precut slices, like a pizza. And since it is thinner than most you'll get a few pieces that have a nice crispiness to them. I don't normally get that where the pancake is fluffier. The veggie noodles soup is delicious, I ate way too much was full of noodles and broth. I was hoping for a bit more veg in it though. I wanted to like this spot but sadly, it just fell short in the categories that count. We were up in N Austin around dinner and I wanted some dumplings so we stopped in here as it was highly rated. We ordered the scallion pancakes, the mixed dumpling plate and the spicy beef noodles. The scallion pancakes were VERY thin and extra crispy. This was unexpected as I'm accustomed to scallion pancakes having a little more body and fluff. Because they were very thin they were heavy in grease and that oily mouth taste was really all there was to them. We wanted to try a variety of dumplings, hence the mixed dumpling plate but there was absolutely no distinguishing flavor between any of the dumplings on the plate. They were very hot and served fresh from the steamer but they were all the same meat/flavor. The only difference was the noodle dough and that was just a difference in color (not texture nor taste). Finally, the spicy beef was just very strange. The shredded beef was very gray and didn't look appetizing. The broth was spiced but it was a very strange spice and not at all pleasant. If you're brave enough to navigate the strip mall parking lot (a total zoo), you should be able to handle the slightly chaotic dining experience. I've never seen this place at less than 100% capacity and am always unsure if we'll find a place to sit after ordering at the counter. Somehow, with their insanely fast service, we always do. The first dish is usually out minutes after we pick up plates and utensils from the self service area. Food here is very filling and generously portioned for the price. We are big fans of their zha jiang mian (noodles with meat & bean sauce), beef burrito (beef rolled in Chinese pancake), and shredded tofu salad. I love the amount of veggies in many of the items we order, and the texture of their noodles is banging - the thick, chewy kind you can only get when it's homemade. My friends and I come here almost every time we visit Austin. They offer authentic hand pulled noodles, which are always amazing (especially if you dine in). As a plus, they actually allow dogs in the restaurant!! I brought my golden retriever in and she was able to just curl up in the corner, which was so much nicer than having to leave her in the car. I usually order the classic beef noodle soup, which comes with a light clear broth and some veggies. However, one of my favorite things about this restaurant is their homemade chili oil, which is AMAZING. They sell jars of it for $8 each and the last time I was there, I ended up buying 5 jars. This is a favorite spot amongst friends and they have a lot of delicious items. My go-to dish would probably be the Spicy Beef Suan Tsai Noodle Soup. They use super tender thin-sliced beef and spicy pickled veggies to give this soup a hearty kick. On a cold day, or just whenever you crave a noodle soup, this hits the spot. Aside from this, I also enjoy their pork chop noodle sooup and lamb stewed noodle soup when I'm wanting something with a lighter broth. The beef burrito is probably one of my favorite versions and they stuff it with a lot of beef. You order from the front area and they deliver items to your table. You get your own water from a water station which required a few trips given the spice and salt levels. Been here quite a few times and have consistently had good experiences! Their noodle soups during our brief winter hit the spot like few other places in Austin. In a compact area with a lot of strong options Julie's noodles is definitely in its top tier I've generally been able to avoid the rush and get seated right away, but have seen it can get quite busy if you go at peak lunch or dinner time. With that said they work through orders pretty quickly.
