Jumbo Burrito was recommended to us by someone who definitely is In The Know! We liked choosing any/all of the many toppings for our meal, even things you don't find too often such as roasted corn. Each time you go, you can mix it up to enjoy different flavor combos. The food was super fresh and flavorful. The burritos truly are jumbo - no kidding. We enjoyed carne Asada tacos, served on soft corn tortillas. The staff was friendly and upbeat. The restaurant has ample self-seating space and was immaculate. The many crew from the Naval Air Station, who came in to eat or get take out orders, know a good thing when they see it! It was good when they still had the truck by the college. Now that they have a permanent location, the prices have gone up. We use to come here at least 2-3 times a month and every time we go, the quality just keeps going down. Last time we ordered 2 burritos (carne asada & California) to go and they were too greasy and salty to eat. We ended up throwing it away. Waste of money. Go someplace else. read more

Wow. This place is delicious. Not only is the price great but this goes to show, you're really getting a bang for your buck. Decor: apparently this place is doing so well they are currently expanding the place and I believe bought the store next to them (this detail I'm not 100% sure). This isn't the "fanciest" place but for me, I go to quality of food vs decor. They provide booths and plenty of seating. Service: great service . It was my first time here and the service was great. The staff was friendly and helped with the questions we had. The food is prepared almost like a "subway" kind of feel but instead with Mexican food. Kind of cool because you get to add everything you want. Food: so this is why I didn't give the place a 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, the food is fantastic. The sauce is pretty good and definitely hot which is a plus. There are plenty of selections of meats and different ingredients, all of which you can choose from. However, my boyfriend and I had a taco shop right by our old apartment and that place was top notch. If you're ever visiting San Diego make sure you visit Ferny's. Also, the photos do not do these burritos justice (we got the jumbo burrito and carne asada fries) the portions here are HUGE and filling. My boyfriend and I split a burrito and had to take the fries home. Also their horchata had FREE refills. A definite plus. I'm such a stickler when it comes to Mexican food, mostly because I'm from Deep South Texas but my god I'm not over their salsa verde and rice. By far the most authentic tasting I've tasted outside the valley. Their Jr. Jumbo burrito ($8.95) is bigger than chipotle's burrito and they offer more sides as well! (Jalapeños, queso fresco, bell peppers). The music playing is loud and obnoxious but customer service is great and they know Spanish! read more

Yesterday I went in for a torta. While everyone in front of me was served expediently, I was allowed to wait for my item while the server swapped out ingredient trays. Additionally she made sure my item had all the oldest ingredients while the freshest sat there for no one waiting. The pork in my torta was at least 50% fat, not edible. Started going here the day they opened, the burritos were decent, but the big draw was the size, they were massive and only 8 bucks! Problem was that the next week they were $9, and a few weeks after that $10.50, now they are $12 I think. This place has potential, unfortunately every time I've been there I feel like I've been slighted by the service. Today, 3 guys in front of me got the shredded cheese blend in their burritos, I asked for cheese and got the white powder stuff bc another employee had taken the shredded cheese to make a quesadilla. I don't know if the guys ahead of me just got lucky or if the employee was being lazy and didn't want to go get the shredded cheese for me. Also, I got 2 hot sauces from the bar. The mild green wasn't too bad but the hot red was not very tasty, it was just hot, oh and neither one tasted like the last time I had tried them. I understand a hot sauce made in house will probably very in taste and hotness, but it should remotely resemble the flavor. I find the junior burrito is plenty big for more than one meal, the jumbo is just ridiculous and over priced if you're not getting meat on it. Their menu lacks vegetarian options/prices. read more
