Have only eaten from the breakfast menu. The food for the most part isn't terrible but is grossly overpriced. The portobello and California omelets weren't bad -- just not worth large price tag. The Brie omelet was really disappointing: little flavor and little Brie and large price tag. All 3 omelets would have benefitted from salt, pepper or some seasoning. The carrot cake pancakes are a real misnomer. You get regular pancakes with some carrot slices in the middle bottom of the pancake along with some raisins and spices. The edges and top are just pancake. I don't think these extras mixed in nicely with the batter. And I wanted something more akin to carrot cake, not shredded carrot pancakes. They were also dry but edible once drenched in maple syrup. Then again, even Spam is probably okay drenched in maple syrup. read more

One of my favorite breakfast places. Try the bacon, try the best pancakes ever, the banana nut pancakes, or the chocolate chip crepes. Sooo good, so sweet, gooey and just amazing. Great staff. It gets a bit pricey but it's very much worth it, and the portions are great. The only two critiques I have are that the combos for breakfast are quite limited and you kinda have to stick to either sweet or salty stuff. The wait is long due to popularity, especially in the weekends, but the minus one star is due to their lack of fresh squeezed orange juice that is called "fresh squeezed orange juice" and the worst coffee ever served in transparent tall cups. Do not be fooled by the name. As a Seattlite anytime I see Java in the name I always think crap coffee. The iced americano was something to behold. And to top it off the food is amazing. Hands down you have to order one of their amazing pancakes. We had the granola pancake and it was so good. The eggs bennies was also delish. The service was great. I've been coming to Jumpin Java for probably about 14 years now. I love this place...it's like my little neighborhood cafe. And they have a good selection of food BUT I was there the other day and saw a sign up that said "Open Christmas Day, normal hours and New Years Day" HOW AWFUL! It was so "meh" that as I was walking away with the leftover half in my hand, I thought about dumping it because I really didn't want to eat it again. I've made better falafels at home. I've eaten here twice for breakfast and both times not impressed at all. I love pancakes and this place ruined them for me. On 2 separate occasions, months apart, I had dry and tasteless pancakes here. I know its always busy, and seemingly popular, but the food sucks. Despite some other reviews complaining about the staff, i will say that my experience was different in that respect. they are very busy, but I still received the attention i would expect. It was just the food that turned me off. I'll stick with Vivians Millenium Cafe up the street, they know how to make food actually taste good. Big French windows surround the front separating the indoor and outdoor eating area. Eggs Benedict - 2.5 stars Eggs poached perfectly but hollandaise sauce overly lemon-y, english muffin standard and the home potatoes were flavorful but maybe overly salty. Price a bit steep in my opinon only because flavors weren't balanced. Pancakes - 2.5 stars They came out looking good but taste wasn't all there, overly chewy and an aftertaste that left us feeling kind of sick after about 4 bites. Not a fan. Most likely won't be back. We were sat pretty fast within 5 minutes but we have been sitting here for 20 mins waiting to order the table of 4 who sat down next to us their waitress came over right away took their order. We stared her down and she just gave us attitude and had another girl come over and take our order. The table of 4 received their food first and we had to wait an additional 5 minutes before ours came out. I don't think I will be returning here, this is the second time this has happened. This place is definitely a little gem in studio city. The restaurant itself is very modest and nothing special as far as the design goes. But the breakfast is phenomenal! I'm giving them three stars and not just one, because I have had okay experiences there before. I've lived in this neighborhood for 5 years, and so while I wouldn't call myself a regular, it was part of my regular rotation. The thing is, when my friend and I have come here we usually do it a bit earlier before the farmer's market crowd hits and so we usually get decent service because they're not busy yet. But what a huge difference in the service when they are busy. This is my experience from what was my last time eating there. We waited a half hour to be seated when we were quoted 10-15 minutes. (I understand this isn't really their fault, seating quotes are not an exact science.) -We waited forty minutes for our food, people who were seated after us ordered, ate, paid, and left before we got our food so it was obvious that someone had lost or forgotten our order, but the staff lied and said that the kitchen was backed up. -When I finally got my dish, Eggs Florentine, the eggs were dramatically undercooked, as in raw, completely clear whites when I cut into them. -When I sent them back, the manager kept talking over me and wouldn't let me finish any sentences, and she even came over and interrupted me and continued lying about the time, even though we knew exactly how long it had taken. She also told me that I had to understand that this food is cooked by humans. Really? read more

I have had breakfast and lunch here. Both were okay but nothing to write home about - your average pancakes and salads. The portions are quite large though. The place is too crammed, both inside and outside. I sat outside for breakfast and felt like I was literally on the sidewalk where there was a slope. The sun was also blazing. The food looks great and but is far from tasting right. I orderd their almond pancakes and I felt like I was eating plain pancakes with almond drizzle. To top it off it was way too undercooked. Overrated. Way overrated. I was excited looking at the menu - home fried potatoes, crepes, unique breakfast options.... First thing that pissed me off was the parking. The lot is a strip mall lot shared by a ton of businesses along that part of Ventura. Granted, parking in this area is always a hassle, and I don't mind paying a valet, but when he tells me to go ahead and park my own car since there are a bunch of spaces available anyway, I wonder what I just paid him $3.50 for. I paid him $4 - because even though he SAID $3.50, and the SIGN said $3.50, he stood looking at me in stunned silence as I waited for my change until finally I said something, to which he answered me that he has no change. So I told him get it from his co-worker, who he asked and who also claimed not to have any change. Nice gig, there - forced tipping when you didn't even valet the damned car. OK, so it's fifty cents, I shrugged and moved on... Now the restaurant - nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Great looking menu. I was really hungry for home potatoes, which is what brought me here, but what I got were kinda mushy potato cubes swimming in spicy tomato broth - not what I was looking for and not so delicious IMO. The eggs with the spicy sausage were ok, but the sausage was dry and overcooked. Actually seemed kind of old and past its prime. Overall just a kinda so so experience. I was full, but unimpressed (and still pissed I had to pay a guy more than advertised NOT to valet my car LOL). read more

I've never had anything like these pancakes in my life. i had 2 large pancakes with a side of hash browns and an egg (which is a combo order, very good deal for good size portions) and I was comfortable full. I didn't leave with that starchy bloated feeling you often get from scarfing down on pancakes, these were the most delicate, delicious, light pancakes iv'e ever had. It's rare that I give 2 stars but my last experience at Jumpin Java calls for it. The place definitely gets packed especially for brunch on the weekends- problem is the staff is not good at managing seating and there is barely any area to wait. When I finally got a seat, I realize the table has been cramped so close next to others to accommodate as many people in the room as possible. I ordered a very simple "lavash wrap" and specified clearly & politely to make sure chicken is omitted. After waiting a good amount of time, my order arrived stuffed w/ chicken. The plate was sent back, I patiently wait again only to receive a lavash wrap minus the chicken and minus the veggies that were supposed to come with it. I ended up w/ what seemed like a cheese quesadilla which I could have made myself at home :-( My poor disappointed self had to walk away from Jumpin Java.... The restaurant is small but they have a good turnover rate for tables so the wait is fairly short. We waited about ten minutes before being seated. I ordered a cappuccino and the grilled veggie salad while my partner ordered the skirt steak. My salad was overdressed while the veggies were cooked in too much oil. I would like to go back and try a breakfast plate because all of their dishes looked phenomenal. My partner's steak was very tasty but be prepared for a lot of food and possibly leftovers if you order this. read more

One of my favorite breakfast locations! I frequent this place almost weekly. The customer service is always great and the food is always delicious. My favorite dish is the Paris Toast with sautéed strawberries. It's amazing! My husband loves their blueberry pancakes. The coffee is also very good and so are their pancakes...don't even get me started on their potatoes. I'm hungry just thinking about it. Only cons are that it is a small place so there tends to be a line if you don't get there early, and limited parking in the back. read more
