I have been to this restaurant many times with my brother and his wife for dinner when I was visiting them. For my brother's 70th birthday, I decided to do a surprise party for him there. The entire event was as stress free and delicious as it could be. I called and spoke to the manager and set up the date and time and when we arrived everything was ready and set up. We had the brunch because we gathered on a Sunday when they offer brunch. When it was all over, all of the guests commented on how great the food was and it was, trust me. My brother said it was the best birthday he had ever had. They even arranged to get a cake for the party. His favorite cake is Coconut Cake and I have never had one as good as that cake was. If you want a guaranteed 4 star meal, go to Junction 421 and you will be glad you did. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first time this year on our June 2022vacation. We had a large party, we're able to reserve seating, we were treated exceptionally well, manage/owner even came and greeted us personally, sent complimentary appetizers to our table. All of us throughly enjoyed our menu selections. They offered something delicious to accommodate all of our party. From pasta, and seafood to pizza it was all well done, fresh, hot and delivered to our table with a smile. We would come again. read more

We ended up here by accident and it was a wonderful surprise. We had their crab dip which is my family's go to appetizer and it was the best crab dip I've ever had! We also had the fried pimento cheese and it was super good. The burgers are thick and juicy and cooked perfectly. We had one cooked medium and one well and they were both exactly right. The Cobb salad is huge and loaded with chicken and bleu cheese. The bleu cheese sirloin was covered in cheese and cooked to perfection. Our server, Shelly, was so attentive and helpful. I asked a lot of questions because I'd had dental surgery and had to be cautious with what I chewed. They have daily specials that sounded very tasty. We will definitely be back! read more

Updating to a 3. Since my last review we've only had snacks at the bar. Pimento balls are delicious. Skip the pizza (too much cheese that was barely melted). The calamari is standard but I don't care for the sauce. Last time we were there, they were trying out a Thai chili sauce which was really good. Service was very good, manager came by a couple of times. Food came quickly. The place is nice, but it was there before Junction 421. App and desert were both good. We both ordered the special of the night which was meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables. No choice of vegetables, only asparagus. The mashed potatoes were hard, the asparagus should have been cooked a little longer and I have had much better meatloaf at chain restaurants for half the price. I could have made it better at home. We will try again and have something different. But, if it isn't any better, we will forego Junction 421. Wilmington is filled with restaurants. read more

It was sad for me to enter this restaurant because it used to be my favorite local restaurant that closed last year. I finally decided to give the new one a try. I did not have dinner as yet but all the plates that came out looked really good. I had a calamari appetizer which was fresh baby calamari. It was delicious. Also, I had the deviled egg appetizer which had pimento cheese and bacon and green onions. They were so good. There was a Wicked Weed craft beer Lunatic special, so I had a pint to go with my food. I had my partners retirement party here for a party of 11. They did an excellent job and kept me updated through text to make sure it was still on. Upon arrival the waitress Emily was already being very tentative and was amazing the entire night, everyone had a wonderful time and I was greatly appreciative of everything that went on! Staff and service was awesome, the food was not bad but between portion issues and pretty bland food I wouldn't highly recommend. It just wasn't anything special especially for the price of some of the dishes. For example, 5 average bites of steak to balance a huge bowl of Alfredo that wasn't very warm or tasty for 30 dollars just isn't worth recommending. The sandwiches were better valued and tasted good but the fries that came with them tasted like the frozen ones out of the bag. Overall the restaurant atmosphere was nice, welcoming, and the staff were amazing but unfortunately there's much tastier options in Wilmington with better value. read more

My fiancé and I are from Virginia Beach and we came here with my dad. They ran out of a few menu items we tried to order but we came pretty late so it's understandable. We started with the calamari which was delicious!! Our waiter Thomas was very attentive and had a great sense of humor. I had the short rib grilled cheese, my fiancé had the short rib Mac and cheese, and my dad had the cheese burger, and all were delicious. Even the beer battered fries were awesome. We had a great time, Thomas made the entire night a fun experience. I will definitely return the next time in in town The only suggestion I'd give to to have a wider beer and specialty drink selection, but everything else is A+! read more

My family and I were looking for somewhere to eat at that didn't have a crazy wait time, called around 7pm and they had us in ready for a reservation within 15 minutes. The atmosphere is incredibly beautiful and the staff was just absolutely amazing. I've never had a more amazing service than junction 421, and to make it even better a couple of us were a little cold and they gave us a blanket to keep us warm. Would 10/10 recommend. read more

Second visit and we still give it five stars. We caught the tail end of brunch so we had to wait a few minutes for a clean table, but that's because they were busy. Worst Resturant experience I've had ever. I don't know what they are doing but it's bad. The staff brought me a flat drink and then when I reported it they said they would bring another but forgot. Then when they brought that it was flat as well. Then they forgot to bring silverware 3 times and messed up my wife's entree and my steak tasted like oven cleaner. We should have just got up and walked out. All that and it was $117 on top of that. read more

We stopped in tonight for quick meal & loved both meals we ordered. It was 6 Sunday evening & not very busy. We were promptly seated & a waiter came right away to get our drink orders. I asked for a taste of their Riesling that I was not familiar with & he quickly brought me a taste. I ended up getting their Sangria which was delicious. I ordered shrimp & grits and they were spectacular with plenty of nice sized shrimp, delicious grits with mushrooms, bacon, & onions . My husband loved his Salmon & risotto. I don't understand the bad reviews. I went here and had the braised short rib and my bf had the ribeye. He's a steak snob and he loved the steak for the price. The short rib was perfectly prepared with a cheesy grit cake to compliment. Our server was also very kind and attentive. Had a wonderful social environment for a Wednesday night with a separate bar area. I can't wait to go back for drinks and try out some more of their menu. The previous reviews are inconsistent with my personal expectations and almost dissuaded me from giving it a try. They're either fake or maybe they've significantly improved in the past few months. Either way, it's worth a shot. And why does everyone keep mentioning OC? I'd go to the Olive Garden before going to OC. I tried Junction 421 recently and was very disappointed. Very average food and high prices. They went to more of a bar food style since closing the OC. You would think that would mean less expensive. Nope. Very over priced for bar food. It looks pretty much the same as when it was The OC but with a few poorly placed TV's added to the bar area. The food was average at best. The service was good but the place was empty. They should be embarrassed with their over priced, unimaginative menu. The drink prices are also very high except for a few cheap wines by the glass. That area could really use a restaurant/bar that pulls off what they were aiming for and failed at. I don't see how this place will survive long without some major changes. There is currently nothing about this place that makes me want to return. read more

Pure butter in all our dishes and hardly any flavor. Very disappointing. I had the fettuccine with chicken. The chicken was actually good. But the fettuccine had no flavor and you could tell it's just swimming in butter. No creaminess. Kid's Mac n cheese was pure butter as well and no flavor. Kid's cheese pizza was spaghetti sauce, cheep cheese and over-buttered crust. Husband enjoyed his fish and chips. Kids' Mac and cheese was served piping hot and it really bugged me that their meals don't come with sides! Really?! Crab dip had low flavor and... wait for it... too much butter. My wife & I have seen so many TV ads from Wilmington stating that the store is located in "Monkey Junction " that we decided to set out and find it. Turns out it was a general store that operated from the 1930's to the 1970's. They had live monkeys displayed in the store that would entice travelers to stop for supplies. We decided to have lunch in the area and chose a local spot, Junction 421. First, every staff member that we met seemed genuinely glad that we were visiting. Everyone made us feel at home, especially Cathy, a lifelong resident, who greeted us and gave us a short history of the area. And our server Becka, answered all of our questions and helped us with menu suggestions. My wife had the salmon burger with a side of fries. She said it was excellent and more than she could finish. I had the shrimp & grits, which I try to order when it's available, especially in North Carolina where delicious fresh shrimp is readily available. This was the best shrimp & grits meal that I've ever eaten, hands down. Great restaurant!!! read more

Also, and importantly these days, we felt we were in a truly safe and clean environment. A big plus is their covered, and well heated, outdoor dining space. Been coming here since they opened. I think they took a little while to hit their groove to present a well rounded atmosphere. I believe they are nearly there now as we consistently enjoy this place. The atmosphere is excellent and they have plenty of seating. Over the past months the staff has gotten more and more friendly and inviting. The owner, John I think, is always walking around greeting and enjoyable. They have something for everyone on the menu and my 3 year old said it was a "COOL!" The flatbread pizza was the best I've ever had from any earlier restaurant. The wait staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Great experience. I ordered right before they closed and on my way home my mom got a call (she put her phone number down on the order) that they made a mistake on forgetting to put the side soup in the bag. They acknowledged the mistake 120% and went above & BEYOND, and delivered not only the missing soup but ALSO TWO free desserts it came before we even had a chance to sit down and eat the food that we ordered. 100% props to them for acknowledging their mistake and going above & beyond. The appetizers were good, but the sizes were a little small. They actually have some great drink specials - a list of different beers, mimosas, bloody Marys for $3. The buffalo wings were good, the ranch was a little watery. The deviled eggs were very good, just not enough! I had the steak sandwich (with horseradish) with fries - delish! The staff, including the managers were great. The managers actually came over to us, welcomes us, and checked on us a couple of times. The prices were about average.
