First time! An extension of Saint Frank coffee and what a hit. Long lines but it moves at a decent pace so don't let it scare you from waiting. Great menu options of pastries and drinks. Wonderful service. Casual ambiance with limited seating. Drinks were on point and the pastries were beautiful, sweet and an overall delight. Check them out.
Mulberry lemon cream (10/10): Wow so glad I snagged their seasonal mulberry pastry in time! So delicious and fresh. Loved that the cream was not too sweet or overpowering either. Cubano (7.5/10): not bad but seemed to be lacking a bit of punch. I think it could have used more accidity honestly as it was most cheese, meat, and bread. I personally would get the kimchi bacon instead Kimchi bacon Danish (9/10): loved this pairing! Pastry was flaky and crunchy and the kimchi brightened the pastry very well Definitely coming back in the future!
First visit here based on a friend's recommendation, and this place has quickly become one of my favorite bakeries in all of San Francisco. Their croissants are straight fire, super flaky, buttery, with that perfect crisp exterior and airy layers inside. My personal favorite is Black Sesame Kouign-Amann is next level with its addictively crispy caramelized edges and that deep sweet earthy black sesame flavor running through the center of it. The seasonal choux are always creative and delicious, and the Mulberry Lemon Cream Danishes are bright, tangy, and also addictive, with that fresh mulberry flavor cutting through the rich cream. Everything tastes fresh and is made with care. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful, which makes the experience even better. The only downside is that it can get crowded fast with lines out the door early, especially on weekends and holidays. Go early if you want the best selection. Nothing pretentious, just excellent quality pastries done right. The croissants and Black Sesame Kouign-Amann alone are worth the trip. 5 stars. Juniper Bakery is a must-hit spot and deserves its spot on my Top 5 SF bakery must-haves.
This is a review of a total of at least 10 visits to the cafe. I unfortunately do not have pics of my pastries or my drinks since I usually get the pastries for someone else and for my drinks I always take my reusable cup. Croissant: I had the plain and chocolate croissant and they are my second favorite croissants in the city. I enjoy them. They are buttery and crispy on the outside and nice and layered and doughy on the inside. I wish it was more flaky. But it is very delicious still. Drink: The drinks are pretty great and this gives it an incredible edge over arisicault where the drinks are bitter and awful. The oat milk latte, the mocha latte, and their strawberry matchas are incredible. I love them and the alt milks they use are pretty delicious. HOWEVER, I THINK IT IS SILLY FOR COFFEE SHOPS TO CONTINUE UP CHARGING FOR ALTERNATIVE MILKS. Service: The workers are nice exactly what you would expect. They explain things and they give suggestions. HOWEVER, I USUALLY ONLY GO FOR DRINKS SO IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A DRINKS ONLY LINE THAT IS EXPRESS. Ambiance: plenty of seating and it is loud but that is ok. I dont see a lot of people working here so I do not think this is that sort of coffee shop. However, you can.
This review considers that I arrived close to closing time and missed out on other pastries. When I came here I ordered a croissant and hot mocha with oatmilk. My thoughts on the croissant and coffee: -Croissant:it was soft on the inside and it was flaky but not excessively and it didn't taste store bought like the kind you buy in bulk. Of course this is just a croissant so only so much can be said but the texture was nice and enjoyable. -Coffee: the drink was not memorable for me but that's fine since I wasn't really coming here for a drink but rather a pastry. I intend to come back and make it on time for their other pastries.
I decided to come in here after walking past it because I caught a glimpse of the inside and I'm so happy I did!! It was one of the best places I went to while in SF. The pastries were amazing and fresh. They were baking them constantly, and they'd make sure to give you a fresh one when you ordered. I chose the mulberry lemon curd danish (I think it was a weekend specialty item) and it was my favorite. It was filled with lemon curd and mulberry jam. I also got the raspberry almond croissant and the bacon kimchi danish. The bacon kimchi danish was the perfect savory pastry. The rose pistachio latte was also sooo good. I thought the box design was cute too.
Yum! Their croissants and coffees are a hit. There was a line out the door at around 2pm on a weekend but it moved really fast. The barista was non-stop making drinks. The shop is decent sized, with about 10 tables in the back. It's amazing to see full trays of croissants getting rolled out - truly a work of art! I asked if they ever participate in Too Good to Go, and they said occasionally, depending on what exactly is leftover. I'd come back! But I'd keep my valuables with me, and not in the car!
I almost don't want to write this review because Juniper is already busy and I don't want it to be even harder to get great pastries, but here we go. Juniper should definitely be in your top picks for San Francisco bakeries. There's so much hype these days on social media about pastries in general, but Juniper delivers. I always go with a Pain Au Chocolat on my first visit as my litmus test and boy did Juniper pass. I also enjoyed the Kouign Amann that my partner got. I NEED to go back to try more, and can't wait. I have a feelin' I'll over-order next time and take some to go. My only regret was not ordering more, but we were walking around and didn't wanna lug a box of pastries :) Would absolutely recommend - the line moves fast and the service is friendly. Not a TON of seating, but people tend to eat and move on, so you should be able to find a table for two fairly easily. Bigger parties might want to grab and go.
mulberry lemon custard danish was the highlight !!! custard was soooooo good. very beautiful too kimchi bacon danish was a nice surprise :)) very yummy. dont eat bacon often but would eat this again. just not toooo fond of the kimchi taste but overall tastes good. simple chocolate croissant was delish. very flaky and crispy. chocolate filling was nice :))
Came by a Thursday morning at around 8AM. There was a short line, but moved very fast. I was in and out in round 15min. I ordered a cubano croissant, almond croissant and a cappuccino. The cubano croissant sounded very unique and it seemed to be very popular, so I decided to give it a try. It was actually pretty good, although I expected it to have a bit more pork inside. The almond croissant was also very good, the dough was more flaky than buttery, but nonetheless flavorful. The cappuccino was good, the actual coffee taste wad more on the acidic side, but not super tart. Overall, would revisit and try more of their pastries!
Busy bakery on a Saturday morning but luckily the wait wasn't too long (~20 min). The bakery has a small crowded space for seating but typically turnover is pretty quick. We got the asparagus proscuitto danish, cubano, juniper lemon choux, and seasonal blackberry croissant. The croissants were all perfectly crisp and flaky - lived up to the hype! Wish the cubano filling was a little warmer inside when we ate it. Will come back next time to try more of the chouxs :)
No real complaints here. The space is a bit tight, but the line moved quickly when I visited on a Friday late morning. The coffee was fine, nothing particularly memorable, but the pastries were the highlight. The traditional croissant was buttery and well executed. I later got to try a few more items thanks to a friend, including the mushroom danish, which was a nicely balanced savory option, the banana chocolate almond pastry, which was pleasantly not too sweet, and a chocolate chip cookie with a great chewy texture. Everything felt thoughtfully made and well balanced. That said, my friend waited about 40 minutes in line for those pastries, which I personally would not do. While the quality is definitely there, I'd recommend coming during off-peak hours to really enjoy the experience without the wait.
There will be a line after 9am on the weekend even on raining days! Parking is difficult on Polk unless you come very early in the morning. All the pastries are baked fresh and you can even see some being baked right in front of you. The indoor seating area is very crowded. My favorite is the Sesame Kouign-Amann which was unique and I haven't seen at any bakery elsewhere. You can taste thick sesame paste. I liked the Chocolate Crossiant more than regular crossiant. Ariscault's crossiants are still more superior, but they have a lot more variety here.

Flaky, beautiful layered lamination! Tried the orange pistachio cake, mushroom danish and chocolate croissant. All three heavenly and decadent. The lamination was perfectly flaky and buttery and still light. No lines at 9 am on a Saturday. The cake was super moist and had such a great flavor. The mushroom danish had a great umami flavor and beautifully laminated edges. I wanted everything in this shop it all looked so stunning with such great flavors. So happy I finally tried Juniper! It's super close to my office and tucked on this cute corner--really clean and inviting inside. First thing I noticed was how pretty their pastry setup was. I ordered the kaffe tonic and... I'm honestly mad I've been sleeping on it. It's so refreshing, has this crisp vibe that just wakes you up in the best way. I also got the traditional croissant--wasn't bad, but next time I'm definitely branching out to try something more fun. Chill spot, good energy, and the drinks are legit. I'll be back. read more
"WARNING!!!, WARNING!!!" Prepare your taste buds, emotions, and the reds of your sensations for a treat. You know those medicine commercials that bring up what they are for and what the sideffects they come with? Juniper should be like this. When needing to satisfy a need for decadent, Rich Buttery, Flaky Extremely Satisfying, Bon Apatite Pastry. This is a place to come. I cross the Bay Bridge just for this place at least once a week. Went in on a Saturday morning around 9:30am. Place was definitely full and vibing. A decent amount of 2-4 seater tables; however, many ppl take it to go because it does get packed. You first order and then pay. We got an assortment of pastries to share between 3 of us and ordered pistachio vanilla rose lattes and a matcha latte. Everything was so good! We ordered a Meyer lemon danish, a black sesame kouign amann and roll, a plain croissant. The pastries were flavorful and fresh. The customer service was on point. Definitely a spot to try. Plenty of buses that drop you off nearby if you're taking public transportation. read more

I have been here a few times now, and it's quickly become a morning ritual for me. Coffee and a freshly made croissant every morning is the perfect way to start the day. I love the classic the best! Everything here is consistently made fresh, delicious, and nothing disappoints. Just be prepared for long lines if you come later in the day. There are some tables with seating along the wall, so if you come in early like I do, you can snag a seat and enjoy your food. read more
Very cute environment with several tables and friendly folks behind the counter. I caught up with a friend here and we got a few pastries to split. My favorite was probably the mushroom danish, which had a really nice savory middle. The almond croissant was good but not on the level of b-patisserie. I was also curious to try the choux and thought it was a nice sweet delight but not something I'd order over and over (I'm not that big on cream puff-like foods in general.) Overall think the pastries are good but didn't make me want to write home like some other bakeries in SF. Check it out though if you're in the neighborhood! read more

I enjoyed my raspberry almond croissant from Juniper - it was flaky, fresh from raspberry jam, and slightly warm. It had a good balance of sweetness, nuttiness, and airiness of texture. It's a lot lighter than the hefty Arsicault croissants. It was about $6. There was a quick-moving line on Sunday around noon, and the interior seating was quite limited. read more
Finally got to try this award winning croissant place and I was not disappointed! I got the ham and cheese croissant and their special black sesame and salted egg yolk croissant. They were both flaky and delicious. There was also plenty of other options to choose from that I'd be back to try another time! 4 stars instead of 5 because we're spoilt for choice in SF for croissants and there are too many other competitors that are amazing too. But juniper is definitely up there amongst my top 5 croissant places in SF! read more

I came for the black sesame kouign amann, as I saw a photo posted from a year ago, and luckily, it was available, so I was able to try it! It was really good, but I thought it could use a little more of the black sesame filling. I realize I came later in the day, but I wasn't too impressed by the other available pastries. Would definitely like to come back and try the savory mushroom danish another time. read more
I've heard amazing things about this bakery and it lived up to the hype! To our surprise, the Cubano croissants were still fully stocked (and fresh out of the oven) when we arrived on a Saturday ~11:30am. We got Cubano croissants and the pain au chocolat. The striped texture of the croissants was unique and all of the croissants were incredibly flaky. The Cubano croissants had fatty pieces of pork that got a tad oily but overall still really enjoyed them. Pain au chocolat was super flaky and delicious and not overly heavy. Would 100% come back in the future to get their Cubano croissants again and to try their other pastries and drinks! read more

San Francisco is full over amazing bakery's, croissants, and treats. I have to say as a croissant enthusiast, juniper is definitely my favourite for the classic and chocolate croissant. The butter is delicious, but at the same time not too heavy and does not have that super -oily- feel. Light, airy, crispy. Always fresh! There might be a line but it moves fast! read more

I've been seeing this spot all of social media and I finally made it out here on a Saturday morning. I arrived around 11:30 AM and there were still plenty of croissants left. You don't have to worry about the croissants selling out, unlike other bakeries in the city. I had my eye on the cubano croissant and was so happy to see them bring out a new tray. It was sooo warm, flaky and buttery! I was obsessed with the crunchiness! I loved the pickles in the cubano croissant as it paired perfectly with the ham. I would totally get this again! They have a couple tables at the back of the cafe but they are quite busy on the weekends. Overall, I'd say this is worth the hype!!! read more

Been wanting to try Juniper for a while and finally had a chance. The items I was able to try include the raspberry almond croissant and the black sesame kouign amann. Both were flaky and the flavors came through. Yum! Kiddo loves her chocolate croissant and enjoyed the one here - she said it was full of chocolate. Other kiddo had the ham and cheese croissant. He liked his, too, but said it'll there was chicken and ham in it. Would love to return to try other items. read more
Recently walked by after my Thai massage and on my way to my favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant to meet a friend. Everything looks delicious, where do I begin? Got one of their Cubano croissants, a croissant loaf and a few other things. The lady helping me was super sweet and gifted me an orange muffin. The croissants were tasty and had a crunchy exterior. Not as buttery as Ariscault's. We like both places but these aren't as heavy in the tummy after indulging. I shared some of these with my friend and brought some home to my husband. I think I got a few people in the restaurant we were in intrigued about these goodies because they asked me where I went and whether they are good. Delicious! Had heard about Juniper from going to the Best Croissant Competition in May of last year and I was so excited to go back to try more of their baked goods. Most often, they ran out of their most popular items such as the Cubano very early in the morning but luckily, my friend was able to get some during the weekday. The Cubano Croissant - One of the most creative and best savory croissants I have ever had. The outside is flakey and has nice strips of crisp layers surrounding it. The inside has pork, ham and cheese which makes it very inviting and warm. The pickle and french mustard add the more sour tangy elements, making it taste fresh and reminiscent of the Cubano sandwich. I also tried a little bit of the pain au chocolat and the sweet croissant loaf with sesame which both were made so well. The pain au chocolat had a decent amount of chocolate and a nice flakiness. The sesame bread was soft and layered well with the nutty, sweet sesame flavors. Probably one of my favorite bakeries in San Francisco and I love seeing their creative takes on baked goods. read more
I was only interested in raspberry almond croissant $6.76 Was told in 10 min it will come out of the oven. We'll, I got to wait, no choice. Fresh piping hot, crunchy, slivers of crispy almonds. Can't beat that. I scarfed it down. The enjoyment of eating and walking. Can't help to multi-task. Lots of melty raspberry inside. I would have liked some meaty chocolate but not so. Update: Excellent baked goods, now that I've tried more of their menu I have concluded my favorite is not their croissant but their choux au craquelin closely followed by their financier. service is nice and love their cobalt blue accents. there's a good amount of seating inside. read more

I don't want to sound ridiculous, but the quality level at this place boarders on the Supernatural. I have never seen a better looking collection of pâte levée feuilletée pastries ( leavened puff pastry ) . I have never clapped for a baker before, but this morning I did , and that was before I took a bite, which also deserved an even more exaggerated applause. They serve Saint Frank coffee alongside it and the two go together like a prime+ ribeye and a rare aged cabernet . Bravo read more

Heard this place won best croissant in the city and boy was I impressed! Stopped by on a late saturday morning and was greeted with racks of fluffy croissants and a variety of different pastry fillings. The bakery was very busy but luckily the line was short and they still had plenty of pastries. We got the cubano and black sesame croissants -- both were incredibly flakey and buttery. The cubano had pork and ham that was very tender and paired incredibly well with the cheese and mustard inside. The black sesame flavor in the black sesame croissant was noticeable but not overbearing and I liked how it was crunchier and more firm. Also tried their vanille latte and it was very good. There was lots of seating and free WiFi for working. Can't wait to come back and try more of their other croissants! read more
Checked out the BEST croissant in the city! They won three awards at the Best Croissant competition in San Francisco last year. The store happened to be close to where we had lunch, so we decided to have some pastries afterward. By the time we got there, they had sold out of a lot of their pastries. We had their traditional croissant, and it was very delicious. The outside was flaky and crispy, and the inside was layered and airy. We also enjoyed both seasonal drinks (orange pandan vanilla latte and passionfruit lychee spritz), and they paired with the pastries very well. The croissant was so good that we decided to go back the next morning for other popular ones. So the next day, we got there before 9, and tried their creative spin on a Cubano croissant, chocolate croissant, and corn cilantro danish. Again, it was so worth it for us to be early birds for these pastries. We are already planning our next visit... highly recommend bookmarking this cafe if you haven't been there before. I was looking for a coffee house close by to my errands and Yelp led me to Juniper. Initially I was going to get their matcha latte, but I saw they had a pumpkin latte. While it's originally made with coffee, I asked as yes, one of the non-coffee people if they could make it as a steamer. I'm so glad they abliged as the pumpkin puree was perfect and made me feel like I had truly entered the fall season. I would definitely recommend that drink in the future. Also, when I arrived I noticed there were a pleathora of crossiants still available for purchase. While I didn't eat it onsite. I enjoyed the chocolate crossiant which had a nice flanky texture. I would definitely return when running errands in the area again. read more

Had a chance to try Juniper after seeing them all over Tiktok & seeing the awards that they won! This is a cute bakery That is famous for their plain crossaint & the Cubano. Unfortunately by the time we got there the Cuban was sold out! For our order - we got: *Raspberry almond crossaint - this was delicious and loved the jammy interior from the raspberry jam which was delish with the crunchy chewiness from the croissant and almonds * ham & Cheese - I loved this croissant and scarfed it down so quickly it was THAT good. IT was nice, buttery and flakey with the perfect amount of ham and cheese. Would totally get this again! Overall, besides arsicault, this is probably the other bakery I would recommend if visiting SF! read more

The traditional croissant truly is so, so delicious. Pain au chocolat, Raspberry Almond Croissant, Yuzu Macadamia Cookie, Caramel Apple Choux were all delicious as well. The traditional croissant was definitely the star of the show though. Will come back to try other items such as their drinks and the Panettone. read more

I've wanted to try Juniper for a while, and now that I have, I can't say I was missing out on much. My friend and I stopped by at 8:30 am to grab some fresh croissants. However, we both thought the traditional croissant was dense and dry - slightly stale, even. The pain au chocolat was the better of the two, but the chocolate tasted a bit dry and it wasn't as flaky, airy, or buttery as I hoped. I also wish the pastries were served warm. Personally, I don't regret trying Juniper but I'm not rushing to come back. read more

Juniper is my favorite place to bring friends and family visiting the city! I find myself here at least once a week for the delicious pastries and coffee. My favorite thing to get here is definitely the raspberry almond croissant - it is DIVINE. I am not usually one to get pastries with my coffee, but every time I am at Juniper, I truly cannot help myself. I highly recommend any and all of their croissants, especially their chocolate one! I also love the orange cinnamon sticky bun for a sweeter treat. For coffee, they use St. Frank's beans so you know their lattes are going to be sooooo good. The seasonals are always a hit, but if you're looking for something simple -- their latte / sweet latte is my goto! If coffee isn't your thing, they have teas and other options as well. There is limited seating and almost always a line but everything moves fast -- people are constantly coming in/out. I love coming here on a Sunday morning, soaking in the sun & sipping my iced latte. I've been to Juniper a few times now and it has not let me down :) their staff are quick and friendly and there is ample seating to catch up with friends or get some work done. Coffee has been consistently good. I usually order their sweet latte which is strong with the perfect amount of sweetener. Their lattes do switch seasonally which is a cool way to try different flavors -- most recently they introduced the black cardamom and vanilla which was delicious. The croissants though are the star of the show. They are crispy, so flaky, yet light. I recently tried the chocolate banana croissant and it was to die for truly. The banana was so fresh and chocolate was decadent, yet the croissant didn't feel heavy. My fried ordered the chia seed pudding. He also got the yuzu sparkler, also a seasonal drink, and it was super refreshing! I'll be back very soon!! :) read more
The Cubano croissant totally lived up to the hype. Kimchi bun and Choux were good, but not something I'd specifically go back for. They sell Saint Frank coffee and have a pretty basic ambiance. There are some tables and window/bar seating so it was pretty easy to find a table even though we went at 11am on a Sunday. Even if the line is long, it moves pretty quickly since the service is fast and most of the food options are grab and go (since it's a bakery). Overall, will definitely be back! read more
Truly think Juniper has some if not THE best croissants in SF. We ordered the plain, ham & cheese and raspberry almond croissants. My personal favorite is the raspberry almond croissant it's so flaky and the raspberry adds a sour fruitiness that cuts through and makes it less heavy and sweet. I would recommend going earlier in the day because they do run out of options. Overall great vibes and lots of tables and wifi to work at too! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it here. It is a little bit hard to get to if you take the bart. I got the plain croissant, pain au chocolat, sesame kouign amman, and pear danish. Pear danish was our favorite, flakey with almond frangipane (vanilla bean added) even the bottom was not soggy. Just the right sweetness. The traditional croissant was really flakey too, I think it is the best one I've had in SF(by far). It is more of an american style croissant which I like. I ate the pain au chocolat the second day which i think is not as good as the traditional croissant. Sesame kougn amman is a little bit on the sweeter side but still very flakey the next day, there is a bit doughy part at the bottom. Overall, really recommend this place if you like flakey american style croissant! read more

Can't remember why I had this spot on my bookmarks, but I'm glad I do! Right along Polk St is this cute spot that has some of the most flakiest, tasty pastries I've had. I came around 10am on a Thursday and it was busy. A lot of goodies had already sold out and all the seating was packed :-( Luckily I was able to snag a hazelnut choux and a black sesame kouign amann. Both were so delicious and gave me a new appreciation for pastries - I don't know how they've perfected the kouign amann but the flavor and flakiness blew my mind. I can't wait to come back and try out their other pastries. Everything seems promising! UPDATE: I went back recently and got iced matcha latte, pain au chocolat, and the chia seed pudding. They have high quality matcha and OH BOY the pain au chocolat was HEAVEN! read more
