T Terrible service, no apology for the 15-minute wait, they couldn't wrap it properly, everything fell apart, I had to ask for a fork. Huge queue, not enough staff, inefficient resource allocation, employees are overwhelmed.

My friends wanted to eat at these expensive sit down places, but I just wanted healthy food for a reasonable price. These salads fit the bill. Lots of choices. Quick service. Relatively healthy (I mean, the salad dressing probably wasn't the healthiest, but it was good!) I'd go everyday after my gym sessions. My favorite is the new Protein Power salad!

Thai Peanut dressing is a MUST

The salad was good but man they forgot a fork for me to eat the salad and I had to leave my job just to go get a fork. The wrong flavor came beverage came that I ordered.

New 2 for $12.99 deal; I chose medium Chicken Caesar Salad and small Crunchy Avocado Toast

I am one of those people who orders the same thing every time--chicken caesar salad with sweet potato topping and/or boiled egg and light ranch dressing. I've never taken issue with the taste, and with the NYU discount and friendly service, I keep coming back. Plus, free wifi and bathroom don't hurt. Some issues I take with the place: - Up until maybe my last 2 orders, they always get my name wrong. I remember once they put my name as Jackie. - The service could be better. Often times I'm at the checkout counter just waiting for someone to appear. - Tables gotta be cleaned regularly. As we all know, some customers are not great at tidying up after themselves. - The new 2 for $12.99 deal sounds good if you want to have more than one item to eat, but let me tell you, that salad is smol. So smol in fact, that I wish I had just gotten the regular salad for $9. - That crunchy avocado toast would've been good, except the "spicy avocado" is genuinely very spicy. I thought it would've been like a white person level kind of spicy, but wow, I had to take gulps of water in between each bite...

The staff here was so helpful and informative! Just Salads as a company no longer chops their salads unfortunately.

My orders are always a hit or miss here which is really annoying when you just want some lunch. I usually get the California (romaine, tomatoes, chicken, egg, avocado, almonds, and balsamic vinaigrette) without the almonds. Instead I ask for cucumbers or some other vegetable. I guess I'm just not a big fan of having something super hard and crunchy inside my salads The last time I asked for this they kept the almonds and took out the avocado. THE AVOCAOD IS MY FAVORITE PART. I didn't realize until I got back to the office and couldn't find any avocado when digging through my salad. Once before that they completely didn't even do the substituoon and just gave me the California the way it is even though I clarified my substitution with them. It was even written on the paper slip that they fl ot when you first walk in. Also the workers seem to always joke around d behind the counter so that's probably why my order is more often wrong than right. I feel like no one listens and they have bad communication in moving your order around from person to person to fill it and chop it. Another time they called my name over to a station and I waited there after two others and wondered where my bowl was. Turns out someone moved it to a different station and didn't even bother letting me know. Other than these annoying 'misunderstandings' or what have you, the vegeatnles are at least consistently fresh. I also love the idea that they offer reusable salad bowls to help reduce waste.

I was excited to see a Dirt Candy branded salad on the menu but found it totally flavorless. Disappointing.

I was called back and the person who called me was very nice and was happy to make this change for us. Overall, the vibes of the restaurant were great I can totally see why it's hard to get a resy here! Service was excellent. First of all we were a bit late due to traffic and weather but the staff was really understanding! Next, our waiter accidentally put in 2 pastas instead of a burger we ordered but had that fixed immediately and took it off our tab which was a super nice surprise. We got a couple things to share and everything was delicious! The monkey bread was totally worth the hype! Steak was cooked perfectly and the pasta was delicious. Also got a couple drinks! Would totally come back here again.

Monkey Bar became one of my favorite Midtown restaurants because its modern history ran almost…read moreperfectly alongside my years in New York. I arrived in 2008 with very little, and when Graydon Carter revived the restaurant in 2009, I was beginning a rise of my own, first at a large global bank and then, to my astonishment, at one of the city's most powerful investment firms. The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was impeccable, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. I remain deeply fond of the place, partly for what it was and partly for what it witnessed. Some restaurants become attached to a chapter of your life, and Monkey Bar holds mine with unusual grace.
