This is a pretty bad Just Salad location. The operations of this specific location are very poor. I have noticed a pattern where my orders are significantly delayed due to ingredients being unavailable. I've also had a few instances where I've picked up pre-ordered bowls and there are things missing. The staff are incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful too, you can hear them complaining about customers which is a bit unprofessional when customers are watching. Finally, there is a long line of people waiting during lunch time so plan accordingly if you plan to order at the counter. read more

The weather is heating up, today 80 degrees, which in my book is Salad for lunch, weather. I was in the mood for a Caesar salad and a green juice ( large lunch equals just snacking for dinner). I ordered delivery and it was promptly delivered, packed safely except the juice was on its side but the plastic lid was secure. The pressed green juice was fresh and delicious; my favorite combination of spinach, kale, pineapple and ginger. The perfect juice for a hot day. The Chicken Caesar salad was good just needed a dressing with more pizzazz. I enjoy a creamier dressing when eating Caesar Salad. I received a $5 promo on my first order. Just Salad also offers wraps, bowls and plant based smoothies. The one near my job is located in Greenwich Village on Hudson Street. tldr; service was rude and hurtful, so even though the food is decent I cannot recommend I actually thought the food was decent here, so it's a shame the service was quite rude to me on my last visit. I asked for the "pick 2" deal which includes salad + soup as an option. I asked for the bbq shroom bowl + soup, and they proceeded to make it for me. I went to checkout, but the cashier charged me regular price for the bowl and the soup, instead of the pick 2 discount price. When I asked about this, the cashier gave me an annoyed look and asked as if I were stupid, what are you talking about? I explained, and she said with exasperation that the warm bowl didn't count (which I didn't know) and when she asked the person who made the bowl, they practically berated me saying "You said 2 items, not pick 2". I did actually say "pick 2," but regardless, in what world does asking for the 2 items with 2 fingers held up not mean the pick 2? My orders are always a hit or miss here which is really annoying when you just want some lunch. I usually get the California (romaine, tomatoes, chicken, egg, avocado, almonds, and balsamic vinaigrette) without the almonds. Instead I ask for cucumbers or some other vegetable. I guess I'm just not a big fan of having something super hard and crunchy inside my salads The last time I asked for this they kept the almonds and took out the avocado. THE AVOCAOD IS MY FAVORITE PART. I didn't realize until I got back to the office and couldn't find any avocado when digging through my salad. Once before that they completely didn't even do the substituoon and just gave me the California the way it is even though I clarified my substitution with them. It was even written on the paper slip that they fl ot when you first walk in. Also the workers seem to always joke around d behind the counter so that's probably why my order is more often wrong than right. I feel like no one listens and they have bad communication in moving your order around from person to person to fill it and chop it. Another time they called my name over to a station and I waited there after two others and wondered where my bowl was. Turns out someone moved it to a different station and didn't even bother letting me know. Note to self - never come to this location ever again. I came here around 5:30pm (first mistake) to grab a quick salad before class, and the place was filthy. There were flies everywhere, there were ingredients all over the place, and the salad base (arugula, spinach, etc.) was not washed properly. They charge extra for EVERYTHING so you basically end up with a $10 salad no matter what. The staff was rude and made me feel rushed even though there were barely any other customers. I'm really not sure why I didn't just walk out right there (I guess I was too hungry) but I took a few bites out of the salad and then I couldn't anymore after what I've seen. I like Just Salad as a franchise, and the fact that this location has a lot of seating, BUT the staff at this W8th Street location are kinda jerky. They seem very distracted from what they're doing and don't take the time to answer questions clearly or listen. Not everyone here, but too many of them. Mind you, my visits were not during the busy lunch periods. Still, I appreciate their presence in the area and the wide range of healthy add-on options. I also appreciate their clear marking of fat-free and vegan dressings, which many other places don't always take the time to break down. I really love salads so I had try this chain out. This was my very first time and Just Salad just happened to be close by. I really like the ambiance of the place. It was very clean. The staff was friendly. I ordered my salad with mesclun greens, dried cranberries, beets, cucumbers and grape tomatoes with ranch dressing on the side. That was $7.99 plus tax. I like how everything they give you is branded including the salad bowl. The napkins and the paper bag had their logo on it. I have to say this was not a very salad. It didn't taste super fresh. The beets were very hard but then again I don't like my beets shredded into fine pieces and their grape tomatoes were cut into pieces which I don't like. I think they should peel their cucumbers. This is all preference though. And the portion was very small. The part I dislike the most was their ranch dressing. It reeked of garlic. I need Newman's or Ken's ranch dressing. I know that sounds bad that I prefer the prepackaged stuff. Overall, I find this to be a smaller, cheaper version than Chop't. I would get salads from a local deli or even a fast food restaurant. I got the Tokyo Superfood salad which has avocado, greens, edamame, almonds, and tofu in it. I'd never been to a salad bar before, but I'm definitely returning. Normally I find salads very boring and unenjoyable and I make my own dressing, but this salad was good and filling. The miso ginger dressing was good too. I can pinpoint the problem of this place with one word: consistency. When I get salads at other places, such as Whole Foods or Chop't, the amount of greens that I'm going to get is already put in the plastic bowl. Here, they kind of do whatever they feel like doing. Sometimes, they put a bunch of ingredients in there and sometimes, they're really stingy. Either way, it's hard to figure out the right salad/dressing ratio when you have no idea how much salad you're actually getting. My salads have turned out either really bland or overpowering with dressing. Also, some of the people who work here don't know how to chop a salad. I have gotten this one guy twice whose blade barely touches the surface of the chopping board...not acceptable. read more

Following a pretty good review from my Hubs on this newly opened Just Salad spot, I wanted so badly to like it. Sadly, it just didn't live up to its hype. The place large, bright & clean. They've designated plenty of room for customers waiting in line as well as seating and the separate cashier's location is nice. The staff was friendly and energetic and took the time to explain to customers coming in for the first time how the whole process worked. What got me was the food itself. Sure the lettuce was crisp but the other ingredients in my Buffalo Chicken salad just seemed blah and eventually killed the lettuce. The chicken looked as though it had been tossed in buffalo sauce the day before & left. The celery, when added, caused the lettuce to get a little soggy. The pepper jack cheese lacked any sort of spice and did nothing to add to the salad. The caesar dressing didn't even taste like caesar. And the little piece of bread offered was hard and bland. I'd probably go back at some point and give these guys another try, but it won't be anytime soon. For now I'd rather take my lunch money to Cosi (right next door) or up to Chop't (in Union Square) for a quality meal. read more

I got the buffalo chicken salad today with lemon vingerette dressing. It was good - the lemon dressing definitely compliments the salad - I don't quite prefer the tortilla chips inside but overall it was a good.
