Perhaps we came on a lazy day, but that's what we got: lazy food. Preparation was mediocre, and once again, temperatures and flavors were flat and cold, respectively. We happen to be in the area to do some shopping at IKEA, and were in the mood for some Korean food. I know what you all might be thinking, "why would you go to a Japanese named restaurant for Korean food?" You see, though Kabuki has an array of sushi rolls, they also have Korean selections. We went with their seafood soondubu (per recommendation from Liz W. - thanks chica!), bulgolgi, and gyoza appetizer. Tofu soup had good flavor, but it wasn't hot. In fact, it didn't come out bubbling like it's supposed to, and they already cracked the egg inside and didn't even mix it. It just clumped up into a hard ball, and wasn't appealing. Because the soup didn't come out bubbling, it made us wonder how long it had been sitting there, or if it was even made fresh. Portion size was typical, and for the $10.95 price tag, it felt short in the quality and variety of seafood. 1 shrimp, 2 bay scallops, and 1 clam doesn't scream variety to us. The bulgolgi ($12.95) had good flavor too, but once again, lukewarm to cool in temperature. Even the onions that were served with it weren't cooked evenly. Some were raw still, and some were nicely caramelized. Strange, no? Good portion though. Our gyoza appetizer had 6 nice size pieces, at $5.50. Crispy skin, and good filling, but the dipping sauce was horribly flat. It tasted mostly like sesame oil with sweet soy sauce. No heat, no acidity. Blah. After a couple dips, we just ended up eating it without the sauce. Banchan were below average in quality and variety. Kim chi wasn't spicy enough or with enough acidity. Too one note, and in this case, it was sweet. The pickled daikon and carrot were probably the only ones that were good, providing good crisp, cool, and tart texture/flavors. Fried tofu slivers were okay, but everything else, were a pass. Although our food wasn't to our 100% liking, the ladies who were manning the floor were sweet and quick on their feet. Big smiles on their faces, and they did check up on us. I just would have liked things to be a bit more put together when it comes to food preparations, quality control, and execution. Like I said, maybe it was just a lazy day that we came on, and I'd be willing to try this place out another time. read more

I've been to many sushi places, but Kabuki will always be my #1 spot!! The food is spectacular. The sushi is always fresh, and judging by the looks and taste, I do know that the ingredients are ALWAYS fresh! The Vegas roll is my ultimate favorite, along with the shrimp tempura roll, and the baked spicy shrimp & crab with crunch top. I also crave for the eel roll and their spicy tuna roll. Hubby loves the kalbi and the spicy seafood soup. The quality of the food is simply outstanding! And the presentation makes it even more appetizing. I love how the place is very cozy and that its location is perfect, for I can go shopping at nearby stores right after dinner! The service is excellent, and the staff always makes everyone feel welcome. Hubby and I are regulars at Kabuki, and I love how the entire staff from the owner to the chef, and the waitresses know our names and our "usual" order. It's the little things like this that make me love this place! The staff is amazing.. This is definitely my favorite restaurant! Spicy seafood bibimbap & a hot love roll for dinner after work! (That was my first visit tip!) I've been back NUMEROUS times since my first visit. I absolutely LOVE Kabuki! The food is always of the highest quality, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I wish I could stop in more often than I do. I've had the Jpanese dinner dishes, rols & rols & rolls of sushi, sashimi, and many other dishes here and never left feeling anything other than delighted! I strongly recommend the Chirashi lunch or dinner bowl, it's absolutely incredible! Also, if you're so inclined, ask to see the Korean menu. I've had many of the items on it and they too are great! But you have to ask specifically for it. I've neglected getting this review posted because I wanted to keep Kabuki all to myself and a few close others, but they deserve serious accolades! Kabuki is one of three rather un-notable korean run "sushi" restaurants spread across the suburbs of Michigan. (Coincidentally, there is a chain with the same logo and name in LA, but i'm not sure of the connection.) The sushi is pretty cheap, but definitely not great at two stars. The fish was good enough, but the rice was all wrong in seasoning and texture. It's edible, but i'd probably goto izakaya sampei down the street for my japanese fix. What was substantially better is the quality and value of the four star food on the separate Korean Menu. We received a small but satisfying bowl of spicy soon tofu soup and a very generous portion of grilled "bul go gi beef" with 5-6 "panchan" side dishes for 12 dollars. Definitely enough food for two. The Korean menu also has all sorts of other authentic treats from noodles to rice dishes. Anyway, goto kabuki for the only real Korean food in the city of Canton. read more

Kabuki... where to start.... Kabuki offers a variety of Korean and Japanese dishes at a very reasonable price. Take out from here is a great value although they do not provide the salad or the miso soup as they would when you dine in. The sashimi here is good. Have always had a great experience with their salmon. They also offer some delicious, cheaply priced rolls. Have to admit, after living in Japan for a year the offering is not very authentic- they offer more "americanized" dishes.... I used to love Izakaya Sanpei, the dishes they offer are more Japanese and offer a variety of very delicious dishes.... but, unfortunately, after their head chef left a few years back it hasnt been the same. The service was great but the food was awful! My husband had the beef bambini (he requested the seafood by they were out; how does a sushi restaurant run out of seafood?). He wouldn't touch it. Because of Yelp, I found this place. I could not believe how close it is to my house. I know that I have driven by this place a number of times. With this review, I will cut-to-the-chase. This place is "GOOD". It is a small place with about 10 tables. Nicely decorated. The lighting is subdued. The waitstaff is very nice and helpful. I wanted our sushi brought out on one of the wooden boats they use for special sushi dishes. The waitress said - this is only for special sushi, I will try my best. She did her best and my son's eyes lite-up when he saw the sushi boat. Our dinner consisted of California rolls( my son's favorite ), Veg. tempura, Kalbi( Korean grilled beef ribs ), and their Spicy Noodle Seafood. The sushi, Kalbi and Spicy Noodle Seafood that we had was Solid. I can even say Exceptional. The tempura, was the only thing that I thought was average. Note : This is a high-end Japanese / Korean restaurant. They use quality food with generous portions. With quality and generosity comes a price. Food and sushi were very tasty, the service was less than average and very disappointing. Showed up at 8pm and was aware they closed at 9. Upon finishing dinner they hurriedly cleaned the table dish by dish that we emptied. They, the server and other employee, literally stared us down as we sat. This was just about 8:40. They brought us the bill and rushed us to pay as another table sat near us without hassle. The woman stared me down and several times rolled her eyes and went to the back room kitchen speaking in her native tongue. She came out again and said nothing and pointed to the bill. I hesitated again and now being 8:45 decided I had enough. I paid and shouldn't have but still left a "generous" 15% tip. I've never been so rudely hurried to finish my meal and pay than this and it was still 15 minutes prior to closing. It's a shame because the food was tasty but I'll never patronize this restaurant again, and will unhappily post on social media about my experience. Went here today and all I can say is WOW. Like many others have said the outside looks a bit sketchy but the inside is comfortable and nice looking. The sushi was very fresh and delicious and the meal came with complimentary miso soup whiz was a nice touch compared to the sushi place I usually go to. The have a wide variety of rolls . And the gyazo (dumplings) were delicious as well. I'm not familiar with many of the other dishes, but from the looks of the tables around us I wouldn't mind giving them a try. I've been looking for a good sushi place since I moved to this side of town. I enlisted the help of my fellow Yelpers and was guided here. Walking in, the space is small but accommodating. The window front is tinted so there is privacy inside and your not being blasted by the sun. There are indoor lights strung along the top of the wall, surrounded by Japanese art as well. It's cozy and laid back. I've been here once before and ordered off the lunch menu. This trip I decided on the lunch boat after seeing the patrons at the table next to me eating a huge bento box of food. It comes with a California roll, edamame, tempura shrimp and vegetables, teriyaki chicken or beef and sashimi. It is a big portion so if you order it, come hungry! I ordered a spicy tuna roll on the side since my eyes were bigger then my stomach. Everything was delicious! The tempura veggies were so good, my favorite is the sweet potato. Spicy salmon were large rolls, with plentiful rice and salmon. The spicy sauce was spicy and not overwhelming, it was perfect (I have had many spicy rolls in my life and turned out to not be spicy). The raider roll was beautifully presented and the salmon was so fresh as well as the avocado. It had a delicious spicy sauce and another type of sauce. Just amazing! I had a very mixed experience here. The first two staff members were very welcoming and friendly. They mixed up our drinks as well as our food orders (of course, I felt that I was clear with what I ordered but definitely could have be a miscommunication) -- the staff member who brought out our food wasn't as accomodating and instead of trying to fix the order said that we didn't specify what we wanted and had us order another dish. The food was okay - the chicken teriyaki was a little dry, but was on a nice bed of veggies. The rice bowl was on the smaller side. The shrimp tempura was very average. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants! I've come here more than 10 times in the past 2 years, and have never ever had a bad experience. The sushi here is awesome, I recommend the Rainbow Roll, as well as the Korean food options. This use to be a great Sushi spot. A place where I gave great tips until tonight. Don't come in at 9:40pm on a Friday night to request take out, apparently they are closed. When the doors are open, time on door states 10pm, and the sign is still boldly lit "OPEN". Two of the waitress rudely stated "we are closed, sorry no service" and said it multiple times, waving hands/ scooting hand gestures etc. You should never scoot someone out of your restaurant... just wanted some miso soup and a salmon roll... smh read more

My absolute favorite place to get sushi in Metro Detroit! I have been coming here for almost 3 years now and I have a wonderful experience every time. They bring you miso soup free of charge with all sushi orders. It's so flavorful and savory! My favorite rolls are the Chili Tai, Nicholas, Paradise Roll, Spicy California, and Spicy Shrimp Tempura. I have also had several veggie rolls including cucumber and avocado! All very fresh and flavorful! Their spicy mayo is yummy too! The price is right but the overall experience was lacking. I really like sushi. It's a rare treat because I can eat it like candy. Maybe it is candy, rice-laden fishtastic candy, mmmmm. I ordered some individual nigiri and a few rolls. I was quickly served a tiny green salad with some kind of creamy dressing and a bowl of miso soup. The (iceberg) lettuce in the salad was watery, and the dressing was drowning it, making it messy to eat. There were a few shreds of carrot and perhaps something else. Very meh. The miso soup was nothing special. The nigiri was pretty good. The octopus was tender and not overcooked. The yellowtail was fresh and sweet, as it should be. The salmon was flavorful and without the slimy film it can get when it's old. Most of the rolls they offer are filled with things like cream cheese and seaweed salad, both of which I feel do not belong in sushi rolls. Call me a snob, go right ahead. I ordered a couple of simple rolls, a tasty spicy tuna roll and a shrimp tempura roll. The service was weirdly lacking. The place is not very big, perhaps 15 tables in all. There were never more than 4 tables seated at any time I was there. With three servers you would have thought there would be more attentive service. Once my order was taken the servers were quick to bring new dishes but then they would just as quickly scurry away. By the time I was done I had 5 serving dishes plus a small dish, a sauce dish, a large water glass and a cup of tea all crowding my table. Nothing was removed until I got the check. Nobody offered me any more tea; when I was finally able to ask for it none came until after the bill had been paid. The place looks and smells clean. The restrooms are accessible but it would be impossible to sit anywhere but a few tables for someone using a mobility device. Except for the main aisle between the table rows there isn't much room.. I am not sure where the curb cutout is in relation to the front door but it did not seem close by. I'm unlikely to return. If I'm going to spend the money on sushi I'd like it to be a better experience than this. p.s. The tv above my head showing the "Animal Planet" channel was either incredibly bizarre or serendipitous. The rating is based on Korean food only. I knew this is another one of those Korean operated "sushi" restaurant that makes Americanized version, so I didn't bother with the "Japanese" menu. The Korean food is really good, a limited menu but for what they offer, the food is authentic, tasty, generous in portion, and a total winner. A soondubu and bulgolgi combo, with complimentary kimchi and 4 other banchan (small dishes) and tea, is under 15. Soondubu is hot and spicy stew made with silken tofu, served in a bubbling cauldron. Kabuki offers several varieties of this dish, I like seafood or combination which has a mixture of seafood and meat in the broth. Bulgolgi is my favourite way of eating rib-eye; sliced thin marinated and grilled. Kabuki makes a classic one. I hope more people will try kabuki Korean food. read more

If I could give a half star, I would. I went here with my husband and friends for dinner tonight. What a disappointment! We all had Korean food. I had soondubu (tofu soup) and it was extremely salty. My husband had yukgajang (spicy beef stew) and it was also extremely salty. No wonder they had huge.. I mean gigantic cups for your drinks. I needed it! The positive: The owner was kind and came to us several times to see if we needed anything else which is not common for traditional Korean restaurants. I realized that you only get the sushi menu if you don't request both menus. I'm a quick learner and I love Korean food, so that is what I got! The beef bulgogi is fantastic and the bi bim bap is delish! I really dig all of the random side dishes that come along with the Korean food. I haven't had the same 4 little bowls since! There is always something different in them. I have also had the udon. They bring it out to you in a big cauldron type of thing and it stays hot the whole time you are slurping it down! Seeking a quick bite before heading into work, I was risking it choosing Kabuki, a sushi bar I had only stopped in once before to pick up a take-out menu. I sat down at the bar with only 16 minutes to spare before I had to clock in (I work across the parking lot) and decided on the Eel Roll and Negi Hama Maki Roll, each of which were six pieces and $3.75 - they also came with miso soup and a house salad. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but it was far from the worst. The miso soup was really good, and the salad dressing seemed more like Thousand Island than a ginger dressing, which was a refreshing change. The thing I liked most about Kabuki was how quickly I was served. My salad and soup were out no more than two minutes after I ordered and the sushi chef made my rolls in front of me and had them ready by the time I finished my soup and salad. All things considered, I'll definitely be returning to Kabuki, especially when I'm in a rush. Post Script: I made it to work with two minutes to spare. read more

My wife loves the sushi and I hate the service. Came here on a busy Sunday evening. Everyone was being waited on intently and our server greeted us promptly. My wife's sushi order came up promptly to share with my daughter. I waited another 20 minutes before I stood up and asked for the check prior to my order being served. They asked me if I wanted to have the food to which I replied "I don't care I want to leave". Kabuki constantly raises their prices to a point where the sushi is not worth it. I mean, their sushi is ok, but almost four dollars for a piece of mediocre salmon is not cool. And they charge an arm and a leg for any minor customization. For example, they up-charge two dollars to substitute smoked salmon instead of regular salmon in a Philadelphia roll, even though they are the same price on the menu. What makes it especially ridiculous is that a Philadelphia roll is traditionally made with smoked salmon anyway. So, on top of it, they don't even make certain rolls correctly. If people in the area really knew what quality sushi was like, they would not praise this place so much, and they wouldn't pay the exorbitant costs for mediocrity. read more

Absolutely APPALLED at my experience here and will post it everywhere I can. As someone who had been in the service industry for 10 years I have never ever experienced anything like this in MY LIFE. My mother was in the country from spending 2 years in Nicaragua and the first thing she wanted to eat was SUSHI! So off we went to Kabuki as we were in the area. We had a waitress who was very kind and accommodating and then after our sushi arrived we did not see her again. No Refills, no checking in on us; It was my mother and my two sons eating. I noticed the entire staff was sitting in the dining room eating family style and talking in chatting including our waitress. Being a former waitress I understood you eat when its slow and it being 2PM I understood her eating at this time so we did not flag her down or wave her down. After about 20 minutes we did wave her down and told her we would like more tea and to order their Bulgogi as well.After 30 mins our Bulgogi had still not arrived and when it did we asked her to box it. HERE COMES THE KICKER: the bill came and we had her split it down the middle. We both signed our credit cards and intended on leaving cash tips. After we signed our credit card slips another lady came over and STARTED ANALYZING IT. When i noticed her hovering over our table and looking at our Credit Card slip I said "we are leaving cash". She went away. My mother then pulled out her cash and put it on the table. The waitress THEN CAME OVER AND STARTED COUNTING THE CASH AT MY TABLE AND STARTED ASKING ME WHY THERE WAS ONLY 5$ THERE AND HOW UNACCEPTABLE IT WAS TO LEAVE SUCH A SMALL TIP. I told her I had yet to leave my tip and I worked in the business i understand how to tip and she KEPT SAYING WHY ARE YOU ONLY LEAVING 5$ HOW CAN YOU ONLY LEAVE 5$. I have never ever ever in my serving career or in my frequent dining out had a waiter/waitress every scrutinize my gratuity ( I ALWAYS LEAVE 25%) nor grab a signed check as we were still sitting at the table. SHE PROCEEDED TO ARGUE WITH ME FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN. I was fully intending on adding more cash to the tip but was too busy chatting with my mother IN SPANISH as I have not seen her in 2 years. I cannot help but wonder if we were racially profiled.
