The Kabobs are cooked/BBQed to perfection. The rice is served with every main dish and tastes very good. I can eat their rice and be very happy. Unfortunately, I hardly ever adventure past the main dishes and I hardly ever order appetizers. I am so bad as I almost always order the beef kabobs. I just lover how they make the meet so tasty and tender. The service can be improved by hiring a professional waiter. The environment is OK but it can be much warmer with some lights and color. When it comes to Afghan food I'm a novice. Although, I have middle eastern food quite often Afghan cuisine is different and the food names are different. I was invited back to Kabul Kabob & Grill by the new owners when they messaged me through Yelp. My first visit over 3 yeas ago was with the previous ownership and since have improved the food and facilities. Over the years this space has been several eating establishments all of which have not lasted very long. When we arrived last night there was only one table already served their food and a couple people waiting for their take out orders. We ordered the following: Banjan 4 stars it's a eggplant and tomato appetizer Mantu 3.5 stars like a dumpling with a yogurt sauce on top, it was served luke warm, probably would have been better if served at a high temperature. Koobideh 4 stars a ground beef kabob (2) served over rice with greens and onions. The meat was slightly dry. I'm not sure if the Afghan version is supposed to be that way. The interior is clean and improvement to the ventilation system from our last visit is noticeable. Service is good. **note** It does take a awhile for the food to come out. They were doing a lot of take out orders and the two larger parties that came in after us did have to wait for their food. read more

It's pretty easy to miss this place when most people (myself included) come to this plaza to just get Boba Bliss. My friends and I came in hungry, and were skeptical at first because we were the only ones there, albeit on a weekday dinner. Everything was delicious, meat was juicy and seasoned, rice soaking up the juices of the meat and accompanied by a palate refreshing salad. Included was also bread and a green, mildly spicy sauce. Delicious food! We popped into this restaurant on a cold, rainy Sunday evening and were immediately greeted with friendly service. The food truly hit the spot! Delicious, heaping pile of hot bolani (potato -filled paratha), followed by wonderful chicken chapli kabob, chicken kabob, and combo kabob plates. This is a little gem hidden away in a strip mall on Alcosta. Good selection of different Kabob options, with really friendly service here. I spoke to the owner who is a delightful man. He explained he took over operation about 9 months ago. I ordered the salmon kabob which was 14.99. Man alive what a tasty dish. My meal was perfectly cooked and came with thinly sliced onions and cilantro on top and a side dish of rice and a slice of lime. The seasoning was pretty strong, but that's exactly the way I like it. If you are sensitive to Salty dishes you might want to ask to go light on the seasoning. The entree also comes with a simple side salad with blue cheese dressing. It's true the restaurant is very small with apparently no restrooms here. It looks like you have to go a few doors down. So overall I really fun experience. Great food friendly service. And large enough portions for sharing... but the food was so good, partner ate it all while I happily took leftovers for later enjoyment. I decided to go again tonight and order the most basic thing you could order at an afghani restaurant: chicken kabob with brown rice. The rice was mixed white and black with cinnamon seasoning. Do I need to say more? The chicken was PASTY. PASTY I tell you. This is the most basic thing. I've consistently had bad experiences with this place. If it was one time I'd brush it off and attribute to one circumstance: bad day, bad chef/cook, bad service, too busy, etc. This is the third time I've given the place a chance despite having 2 previously bad experiences. This establishment is ran by unprofessional people. We came in, waited to have someone come take our order, after 15mins of waiting, we went up to the register ourselves to order. We ended up waiting 35 mins for just two appetizers and one kabob plate. Five people came in and were addressed right away, their togo orders were ready to go or were being finished by the kitchen staff no less then 5 minutes. Us being the only in dining customers, were neglected. We were never told how much longer our food will take or offered our drinks we paid for. The owners are rude and very inpatient. Waiting for 35 mins for dinner at a restaurant that has no diners, is strange to me.. waiting was hell. Inside the restaurant is dirty, very cold (too cheap to turn on a heater for customers) during winter and no music. Just the cold and hearing dishes clank and staff yell and speak in their own language. With it being so close to 8pm and I couldn't wait for my food any longer and the restaurant was closing at 8pm. I had no choice but to leave in such a uncomfortable situation. Please learn to respect and treat all customers well! Don't neglect your in diners due to online or phone orders. food was 4/5. ordered the triple kabob platter which comes with chicken teka kabob, koobideh (ground beef and lamb), and a beef chapli patty. chicken was a bit flavorless but cooked nicely, koobideh was juicy and better, and the beef patty was perfectly seasoned and cooked well. rice was under seasoned and salad had no dressing. we also ordered the bolani kachalo appetizer platter to share which was advertised as spicy but was not. still good flavor and the red garlic sauce it came with was divine. service was subpar and 3/5. server did not seem to want to bring us more sauce (although he did) and only checked in with us once. can imagine he's busy with doordash and online orders but make sure to attend to your dine in guests as well! difficult to get ahold of which weakens the dine in experience. restaurant interior can be improved too, looked a bit outdated and there was a crying baby which didn't help. will probably just order takeout next time read more

Tried the aushak today, which is similar to mantu. Both are dumplings. Both are served with tomato and yogurt sauces and dal. Mantu has ground beef stuffed into the pasta then steamed. Aushak; however, is a veggie dumpling. Stuffed with leeks, chives and/or green onions, the dumpling is then boiled and served with a meaty tomato sauce. Aushak can be transformed into a vegetarian dish by eliminating the meat from the sauce. Which to choose? Both are similarly seasoned so the flavor profile is the same. Pick mantu if you like a firmer dumpling. Since aushak is submerged in water and boiled, the dumpling sucks up more moisture and has a softer texture. Both were yummy but my personal preference was the mantu since I liked the firmer texture. read more

We really enjoy the food from this place, it's a great family owned restaurant. My two kids usually share the beef kabob and there's still some left over for one of them to bring lunch to school the next day. You can ask them to cook the beef medium or medium rare as well. I like to get the combo kabob with koobideh and Chapli. The lamb shank (Quabli pallow) is also a favorite. Their seasoned rice is so gooooood!!! Wow! So glad to have stumbled upon this place. Not going to lie, we first came to the area to get Persian food only to find that restaurant closed down. With a quick yelp search, this place was super close to where we were and had the best reviews. Well friends, they are deserving of every star and positive review. Kabul is a a down to earth restaurant, family friendly and food made with love. We had a couple appetizers (kadoo & flatbread with leeks) and tried their beef kabob with seasoned rice and the lamb shank dish with rice, raisins, carrots. My goodness they were all so incredibly tasty, generous portions and fresh. Lamb is a tricky meat, can be very gamy but the way they prepared it melted in your mouth and had no meat smell, just fragrant from the seasonings. Nice, family run restaurant. They were out of lamb entirely at 5pm on Friday which is obviously not ideal. We ordered 2 chicken plates. Husband's chicken was very good and well seasoned. My kabobs were so-so. Seasoning was okay but I felt like it was missing a little salt, and then some pieces were cooked to perfection and others were slightly over cooked and dry.
