My fried garlic white fish smelled so good in the car so I snarfed it down as soon as I parked. Didn't get a photo, tsk tsk. But let me tell you - it wasn't greasy at all. At first I was a little gunshy seeing all the middling and poor reviews this place received. But it turns out this place was pretty good. My kalbi and shrimp, while on the small portion sure, still was enough to fill me up and was quite delicious to boot. At that price point for the combo, I'd be more than willing to order this good. The other nice thing is they were able to substitute out the Mac salad and veggies, as those should never be a part of any meal meant to be edible. Some Hawaiian places want to charge you extra for the public service, but Kahu does not, which I appreciate. Overall, the service was just exemplary. And while the space might be a little small and some of the tables have their chairs stored away, it had a good ambience and wasn't something I could be annoyed or concerned about. As it is, I like having another option for when I go to the movies. The macaroni salad needed some more vinegar. I felt it lacked some tanginess for my taste. The bbq short ribs were delicious! Well seasoned, marinated and grilled. I would come back just for those. Service was great. They brought my food to my table which was an unexpected surprise. It's always well made and super crispy. A+ for the macaroni salad! Also, some nice veggies that were a little undercooked which I really don't mind. Honestly I didn't want to give you a star but unfortunately we have to in order to post. This place has to be the most disgusting places I've ever eaten. I work in the food industry and I honestly don't know how it has so many stars. It definitely was NOT worth the amount I paid. It's horrifying on how careless the people who work there are. The food inspectors should stop by and inspect the kitchen. I ordered meals from this place to "enjoy" with my family. I ordered the garlic shrimp to enjoy with my toddler. Opening the container the smell of spoiled shrimp hit the air. I inspected the shrimp the shells were sticky and flesh was bad. The cook should have known better. Eating this would have been bad shellfish poisoning. It pissed me off that they let this go out of the restaurant. What also pisses me off is thinking about a child not knowing it was bad and they ate it, got sick and ended in the hospital. Disappointing!! My husband ordered the Chicken katsu, it wasn't enjoyable. It was overcooked, very dry and hard to chew. My 4 year old daughter had the spam fried rice ( it was gross I do not recommend) she didn't like it. I also got her the bbq chicken that she said it tasted weird. The only thing she ate was the white rice. My nephew ordered the loco moco he said it wasn't good and that he will never eat form this place again. He didn't even eat the whole meal because he said he didn't want to get sick. The pasta salad was also inedible it had no flavor whatsoever. And the mayo looked like it's been sitting for a while. My husband and nephew drove to the restaurant to return the shrimp dish that was delivered. I wanted a new shrimp meal (hold the food poisoning) My husband said that when he told the man behind the counter about the situation. The man didn't apologize for sending rotten food. My husband said that it seemed like the man already knew why they were there. My husband asked them to remake the dish but they had ran out of shrimp. Which explains why they must have sent the rotten ones and tossed the rest out. To the man behind the counter: Make sure your cooks know what they are doing and don't send bad food. For the future simply call and tell the costumer "unfortunately we don't have shrimp today (or what ever bad dish you have). Would you like to replace your meal with a different dish?" Write it down and tape it near the phone so you remember. Because after this experience I'm surprised this place is still open. Anyway they replaced the shrimp for spam misubi . When in reality the meal should have been removed from the bill and gave a meal for the trouble they put the customer in. Possible shellfish poisoning is not a joke it's death!! read more

Stopped in looking for a quick bite. I ordered the fried fish sandwich combo which came with an order of fries and a drink. The sandwich is pretty basic. Fish and lettuce on a bun and the fries were a bit undercooked for my liking. I prefer my fries with a slight crunch.
