I was craving Korean food, so I stopped by on the way home. I got to the restaurant at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night and it was busy. Luckily I jumped on the Yelp app waitlist. I was quoted 20 minutes, and got seated within that quoted time frame. The restaurant is brightly lit with robot servers circling the floor. I ordered on an iPad at my table. I picked the combo meal with beef bulgogi and a seafood soft tofu soup. The banchan came out first and it was so delicious. There was kimchi, potato salad, bean sprouts, anchovy, kimchi cucumber and fishcake. When the entrees arrived, it was sizzling hot. The bulgogi was on a hot plate and the soft tofu soup was steaming. I nibbled a bit on the bulgogi and sipped on the seafood soft tofu soup. The meal was hearty and filling. The soup was not skimpy at all. Tons of seafood and tofu inside. And the bulgogi was soft and marinated well. I like how Kaju Soft Tofu has non-spicy food options. Very disappointed. I ordered takeout from Kaju Soft Tofu, and the experience was awful. For the price, the portion was ridiculously small. it felt like a kids' portion, yet I was charged full price. I ordered two tofu soups, but they only gave me one set of utensils. And where was the egg? Basic items were missing from the order, even though I paid full price. The service was bad. Only one party in dine in and still can't do a take order right ? the overall experience felt like it has gone downhill. This used to be one of my go to places for tofu soup, but unfortunately, the quality and service are nowhere near what they used to be. Definitely not worth the price or the hassle. I went here with a friend on a nice Thursday evening and have to say it was a great experience! As someone who has been wanting to try Korean food for a while, this was a perfect place to start! The place is well kept, fairly clean and not too crowded. We had no wait and the service was quick throughout our whole meal! We ordered a steaming galbi dish, cold noodles, katsu, and a couple side dishes! I particularly enjoyed trying the different Korean flavors and seasonings. The cold noodles were my favorite and was perfect for a hot summer day! Everything we ordered was good and made for a clean, balanced palette. I will definitely come here again the next time I am craving a more traditional style Korean meal! However, I should mention that we saw a couple of bugs around--spiders and flies--not too much to the point where it was gross or concerning, but just something to note if you are a clean freak. All the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Overall, a very nice restaurant. Only one drawback (reason for a 4 star review) is they charge a mandatory.18% gratuity for groups of 5 or more. This was fully disclosed (unlike many other restaurants). I feel that the gratuity should be voluntary, not mandatory. We had lunch before 11:20 on Sat. I found only one table taken by 4 people. Thank God! Quiet, not busy yet before lunch time. My hubby and I ordered very spicy Kalbi tofu, mild beef tofu. All the side dishes which were kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts, mini anchovy w peanuts, fish cakes, and potato salad were so good. We really enjoyed the tofu w soju drink but 2 servers looked so overwhelmed, didn't care about us. I wanted to ask them a refill of some kimchi, bean sprouts but hard to ask them to refill some side dishes. They have been using robot service for delivering the side dishes to the tables. Not enough to serve the hot foods, charge the bills, refill the side dishes. I wish the owner realizes how busy the restaurant is on Sat. Two servers can't cover the big dining area. So many customers are in a line for the large group of party, family lunch, and so many to go orders and etc. Finally, we finished our lunch and asked our server to pay but it took so much time to pay the bill. Came in to Kaju soft tofu for dinner with my girlfriend on a Saturday night. Small restaurant in a crowded strip mall, parking was tight but we found a spot. The waiting area was crowded and we were 10th on the waiting list. Our wait time was around 40 minutes, plenty of time to peruse the menu and decide on our orders. Once we were seated we were able to order from the iPad on our table. I went with the combo having spicy pork bulgogi and the pork tofu bowl. My girlfriend ordered the combo with galbi and seafood tofu. The food came out in stone bowls which kept everything hot. We also ordered an egg each for the tofu bowls and cracked our raw eggs into the bowls for a poached egg. The food comes out via a robotic server that brings the food to the table. We love Kaju Tofu all the time for chewy hot rice pot, called ddukppaki rice pot, real Tofu broth, and side dishes. We had early lunch before 12. We know they open at 11. We had mild beef tofu, my wife's very spicy kalbi tofu. Everything was great like always, fresh side dishes including kimchi, the flavorful tofu, and our fave fresh cooked hot rice pot. It was so quiet when we got there but was packed, so busy around 12. My wife barely asked our server to refill some side dishes. We finished most of side dishes, tofu except rice. We decided to take some leftover rice and asked the server but it took a lot longer to pay the bill, having to go box for rice, and final receipt. I understand Saturday lunch time is a lot busier, packed but they have a problem for serving. I saw only two server and one person to clean the tables. I wish at least one more or two to cover the big dining area on weekend. My wife waited for a while to pay the bill, getting the receipt. She said, let's leave ASAP from here. I can't wait anymore. Too busy... Well, they have the service robot to bring some side dishes to the table. However, it is not OK to take orders, bring the hot foods to the tables, refill the side dishes, and pay the bills, bring to go boxes, and etc. It shouldn't be replaced by robot. We always concerned about the good service, good quality, and consistent taste to come back to the restaurants. I found a new order tablet on the table but I think this was not enough to cover all the services. It saves time using tablets and simple service robot not like the real person. My husband and I come here almost every month! The ambiance has a great traditional Korean feel, and personally, I think their tofu is much better than BCD's. The service is amazing--the staff proactively refills side dishes without us even having to ask, unlike most places. Portions are decent, so we always end up with leftovers to take home. read more

Definitely a strong contender with a well known restaurant with 3 letters (the 3 that come after letter A). The tofu soup has a good, strong base. The bossam is delicious and cooked to perfection. The cold noodles are absolutely delicious and very plentiful - you get a lot of food for how much you pay for. Expect this to be as loud and busy as a typical tofu soup restaurant. It's typically noisy and they usually have music (kpop) playing in the speakers too. Overall, great place and will come back again. Add water to it after you remove the rice. Take it home to drink. This also includes the side dishes, like kimchi cabbage, kimchi radish, bean sprouts, etc. You order on the tablet at your table. When you need to check out, there is an option on the tablet too. I don't feel the five stars is deserving because the service was unfortunately lacking. The tablet has options to ask for water or get the check, but there is no button to get to-go containers or more napkins. I absolutely love the tofu soup here at Kaju and have been coming to this location since it opened a few years ago I believe. The quality has been consistently the best and the banchan are some of my faves. The chili pickles, fishcake and kimchi are so good. I also like the tiny fried fish and potato salad. To order, just use the iPad on the table. If you want to put a raw egg in your soup, you'll need to order that on the iPad as it doesn't come automatically. Not too extensive of a menu, ordering on the iPad available on your table is quite easy. Came here a few days ago to change up the tofu soup restaurant since they have slightly different banchan than the other place I frequent. Service was fairly fast when we came and left pretty full. We managed to avoid the dinner rush. I opted for the dumpling soup, which did not disappoint, although I did have them add galbi to make the soup a bit heartier. Kaju is a reliable soondubu soup option in the OC, which personally I like a bit more than BCD and Young Dong. The broth tastes a bit cleaner here and they seem to use slightly less of the flavor "enhancers" (ie dasida, maht sohguhm) than other tofu chains. However the food is a bit more salty in comparison. Of all the tofu soups we've tried at Kaju- the kimchi pork one hits the best. As other reviewers have noted, the banchan was a bit of a letdown. Just some basic kimchi and they did away with the fried croaker recently. (I'm an OG, fried croaker is part of the soondubu experience). Service was decent too and the food was delivered promptly, in person and by robot lol. All in all, fall weather is soup weather- Kaju is consistent and pretty good for hitting the spot. read more

There're ordering panels placed on the table that you can order on the machine, but if you need help, you can still ask for a staff to get the order in place. We ordered 2 combos plus a bibumbap a la carte and extra rice. They gave you a generous amount of banchan side dishes for free refills. So you can have a pretty full meal with those refills. I order their Kaju Dinner Special which includes small size tofu soup of your choice and a small portion of meat and with rice. I decided to get the Mushroom tofu soup and it was so flavorful packed with shiitake & enoki with a lot of tofu in it. The chicken bulgogi was so good and I was in love with it, there was flavor but not too spicy for me. The barley tea was perfect to wash it all down with. I feel like the price was worth it for the portion I got. Definitely would want to come back again! You order on the machines, then you get these robots to bring you your Banchan but you get actual people to give you the main entree foods, the waitress was so nice and friendly. Kaju to me is a 10/10 tofu soup place in OC. There are a few locations but the quality, service, and food is always consistent. The ajummas working are friendly and hard working. It could get busy here so I'd recommend putting your name on the waitlist but you won't wait too long. They turn customers pretty quick! It's in the same parking lot as Honey Pig so parking could be limited. I always order the spicy beef tofu soup with added mushrooms. It's my favorite on a rainy or cold day as it soothes the soul. The banchan rotation is the same but they'll switch out some as well. I love fish cake, cucumbers, and japchae.
