The fish was perfectly tender, the sauce had right amount of spicy like they don't water down the experience. We've been to Mindeulle several times now, sometimes with a large group and sometimes just my wife, our two young kids and me. The first few visits, we were enamored with the place. It felt like one of those wonderful little discoveries you almost hesitate to tell people about. My wife was born and raised in Seoul and one of the things we both appreciated was that the menu went beyond the predictable greatest hits of Korean food in America. There are dishes here that feel specific, deeply Korean and genuinely comforting. Come with enough people to order broadly and when the kitchen is on, this place can be terrific. Even on our most recent visit, the banchan reminded me why we kept coming back. The japchae in particular was excellent. Not greasy, not cloyingly sweet, not buried in seasoning. Just beautifully balanced noodles, vegetables and beef. Simple food handled well. Frankly, the banchan may have been the best thing we ate. Unfortunately, that became the problem. If the complimentary dishes are outperforming the food you came for, something has gone sideways. Our seafood stew arrived looking magnificent. Deep red broth, greens piled on top, seafood underneath. The broth itself was genuinely delicious. Spicy, savory and the kind of thing you want to keep spooning into your mouth. Then came the seafood. I have now had gritty shellfish here on multiple visits. There are few things that destroy the pleasure of eating a clam faster than suddenly crunching through sand. On top of that, much of the seafood was overcooked. What should have been the Korean equivalent of a rustic bouillabaisse, beautiful broth, fresh seafood, everything tasting of the sea, ended up tasting less like the ocean and more like the ocean farted into my mouth. Which is particularly unfortunate because the broth deserved better. The noodle soup suffered from a different problem. The noodles had simply gone too far. Soft, overcooked and without the texture that makes a bowl like this satisfying. Service is kind and I want to emphasize that. The women working here have always been nice to us. But the restaurant seems perpetually overwhelmed. Once the food lands, getting something as basic as another napkin can become an expedition. Then there is the dining room itself. I notice details, perhaps more than most people, but restaurants eventually tell you how much attention they're receiving. Look at the vents. Look at the ceiling. Look at the curtain by the entrance. There is a layer of accumulated neglect that becomes difficult not to see once you see it. In a restaurant serving shellfish and other seafood, that doesn't inspire confidence. That's ultimately what disappoints me about Mindeulle. This isn't some terrible restaurant I tried once and decided to punish with a bad review. We've returned. We've brought people here. We've ordered the big dishes. We've had genuinely memorable meals. I wanted this place to remain one of our finds. But after enough visits, you stop grading a restaurant on what it could be. You grade it on what it repeatedly puts in front of you. Beautiful banchan. Wonderful broth. Kind people. Gritty shellfish. Overcooked seafood. Overcooked noodles. An overwhelmed dining room that needs considerably more attention than it's getting. There is still a very good restaurant somewhere in here. Today, I stopped by Costco in Fullerton to fill up my car with gas, and then I went to Mindeulle Restaurant. I had heard that the food there is excellent, especially the braised black cod, so I decided to order it to go and have it for dinner. After I went inside, I looked over the menu for a while and thought about what I should order. In the end, I stuck with my original plan and ordered the braised black cod. It comes with two servings of rice, and I chose multigrain rice for both. After placing my order, I didn't have to wait very long. My to-go order was ready almost immediately. Even though I arrived a little after the lunch rush, the restaurant was still quite busy. As I walked to the restroom, I saw the dishes other customers were eating, and every single one looked delicious. I took my food home and had the braised black cod for dinner, and it was absolutely delicious. The kimchi and all of the side dishes were also incredibly good. The next time I'm in the Orange County area, I will definitely come back. I'd love to try many of their other menu items. One of the best authentic Korean restaurants I've ever had. No explanation needed, just go and order the BRAISED BLACK COD. Honestly, it was even better than the one I had in Korea. The food here is very good and serves different dishes than the typical Americanized Korean restaurant. I love their seafood pancake and the side dishes are slightly different than what I'm used to but all very good. Unfortunately, the waitresses made the experience unpleasant. We finished all our food and even gave them a higher tip as thanks for serving a bigger group. I'm pretty sure it's because we aren't Korean. I said thank you to one waitress and she stared at me, unsmiling, then looked away without a word. I love bossam (steamed pork belly) and I've tried a lot of places. This place could be the best. I didn't know how they get it so tender, but the meat almost falls apart as you touch it. Amazing! The black cod stew is also the best I've had. The broth is perfect -- rich and spicy, but not overwhelming, so you can stuff taste the fish. And they are generous with the fish. I was recommended here by a friend and fell in love with the braised fish. I came every so often to get their braised fish and trying other dishes on the menu - cold noodles, seafood pancake, and more. This place is always full of Korean families, so I know the food is authentic. The service is fast and efficient. The Korean aunties servers always make sure to cut up and split the food for you. The vibe is so friendly, it always feels like I'm over at my friend's house dining here. As for the food, everything always tastes delicious! All the side dishes are yummy and pair well with the main dishes. My must-order is the braised cod. It's full of fish with tofu and radish that has been braised in a delicious spicy sauce. The seafood pancake was crispy, and would definitely be better with more seafood. The cold noodle was refreshing, but I think it didn't pair well with the braised fish as it would with grilled galbi. We stopped by Mindeulle in Buena Park after a round of golf, and it turned out to be such a nice place to end the day with the ladies. After spending a few hours on the course, we were looking for something comfortable and not too loud where we could actually sit and catch up over dinner. Mindeulle was perfect for that. The tables weren't crowded together, and the restaurant had a clean, uncluttered feel that made it easy to relax and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. Everyone at the table found something they liked, and there was plenty of conversation about how good everything was. I had been doing some grocery shopping at the Korean market in Buena Park when a friend suggested we stop by Mindeulle for lunch. Since we were already in the area, we decided to give it a try. We had the kids with us, so I was a little curious to see how everyone would do with the food. Luckily, the dishes weren't overly spicy or heavy, which made it easy for the kids to enjoy. They're not particularly picky eaters, but it was still nice to see them trying different dishes and eating a little bit of everything instead of sticking to just one thing. The restaurant itself was comfortable and nicely kept, so having lunch felt easy and relaxed. We weren't rushing through the meal, and everyone seemed to find something they enjoyed. It ended up being one of those unplanned stops that worked out really well. The kids ate well, we enjoyed our meal, and I was glad my friend had recommended the place. For someone who visit here with kid, I definitely recommend hand-pulled dough soup with perilla seed "수제비." It was savory and clean, not spicy at all. My husband and I came here, because it was recommended to us by a friend. As we entered the restaurant, we knew it would be good due to seeing so many halmonis (Korean grandmas) eating there. Side dishes came first and then as we received our main corse, our server made sure to cut the kalbi from our soup into bite size pieces and proceeded to serve us making sure it was good. To be honest, I've never seen any other restaurant do this, and I truly believe little things like this make a great difference, because it shows so much care for the customer. This restaurant reminded me of Seattle's "The Pike Place Fish Market," where fresh fish has been sold for decades as employees playfully throw fish around. Though this place has been open for 10 years, we were unaware of its existence. Situated in a humble shopping center with a modest square footage, you would never imagine the quality of service and Korean food it offers. When we checked in, the restaurant was nearly full, and the busyness and energy of the staff expressed their confidence and pride in their reputation. We were first served water, and the waitstaff's recommendations already impressed us with the promise of quality and taste. We ordered Braised Black Cod, and SsamJjang Vegetables wrap combination with Spicy Marinated Pork, and Bean Casserole for the three of us to share. The fresh lettuce and vegetables, including green pepper, cucumber, carrots, wild sesame leaves, and steamed cabbage, arrived first. We also had a choice between white rice and mixed grain rice, opting for the healthier option. The presentation and quantity of the food and side dishes were attractive and impressive. When the Spicy Pork arrived, we could already tell it would taste great. The Bean Casserole was also delicious. The awaited Braised Black Cod, which they were very proud of, came last. We didn't have to wait long to encounter one of the restaurant's most popular dishes. The combination of quantity, quality, and taste was outstanding, although it was a little too sweet for one of us. The Black Cod melted in our mouths, and the tofu and radish were incredibly flavorful. We called this kind of food 밥도둑 (Thief of Rice) because it kept making us eat more rice. We were very full and ended up taking the leftovers home. The service was excellent. There might be many people who have never visited this restaurant, but there are likely few who have only been here once. We plan to come back to try other menu items next time. Strongly recommended. They said they have a la carte grilled meat dishes but they are not on the menu separately but only combos with the lettuce wraps are in the menu. I asked for the price of the a la carte meats & two waitresses were somewhat evasive and recommended we ordered the larger portion rather than providing the price for one dish. Told the waitresses I don't eat pork so ordering the larger portion did not make sense - they were like, 'why not?' We re-asked for the price then was finally told a price but nothing printed. They had absorbed all of the flavors from the sauce and added the perfect crunch to the dish. My friend and I came hungry and somehow still ended up eating way more than we intended. We left completely stuffed and already talking about what we'd order next time. And of course, no Korean meal feels complete without banchan. The braise had big lovely succulent cod in a deep rich braise sauce that I literally spooned onto my rice in delight, withe sublime daikon simmered with deep flavor infused in ready tenderness. If you like daikon, you'll wonder how this is accomplished in a selfish way, as if to make your own at home. The tofu in the braise is tender and sweet, but firm. Altogether this dish is the Beatles. Each component a crucial delight that stands alone while hitting harmony. Bossam was right good, but the star was the cod. The banchan was not just usual suspects-- each was made by someone that tasted each dish as if cooking for someone who is much loved and has come from afar. I would avoid lunch times during the weekdays as they are typically busy. The parking situation used to be a nightmare but it's now ample as they have their own lot on the side. Also, their service is of a typical Korean joint. Meaning, they try their best with the cultural and speech barrier. IMO, I think do a pretty decent job. I'm not a huge fan of Korean food in OC. It seems to always be a hit or a miss. That being said, Mindeulle is one of the places I go to when in the area. My mom and I both enjoy eating here as the food is very homely. I usually get their ssambap combo which comes with veggies, a choice of protein and a side of bean paste stew. My mom usually goes for the hot stone rice pot or fish. I would stay away from some of the steamed main dishes with red-ish sauces. I find the sauces on the sweeter side which isn't to my liking.
