From the moment we sat down, Xady was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. She took the time to explain the menu and any questions we had. They took our reservation for 10 for lunch with two-weeks notice. The night before I was sent a text reminder and confirmation request. The food presentation is nice. The ingredients are quality. The taste is above average and the service is average because they get busy and (the same short) staffing is serving many tables and big parties at once. We sat on the covered patio and it was nice. Very colorful art paintings all over. We wanted to order dessert so I had to go inside to ask the server if she could come see us yo take our order -- she was busy with another big group inside. For the closing of the bill, I went inside and asked to pay. The bill had an 18% service charge added and was told the charge is a shared tip which includes ancillary staff and the bar, host, bartender, cooks, etc. It was suggested if we wanted to tip the server more directly that more could be added: So, I added an extra 10% on top of the 18%. We made a reservation around 10:30 am they told us it would be a 2 hour wait which was fine since we were a party of 14 so we waited around the 2hr mark we were told okay just another 20-25 mins. We proceeded to wait after about 30 mins we went in to ask and they didn't have a table for us yet but upon waiting we talked to another customer who said they had only been there for 20 mins and were called up to be seated with the same size party and this was around 1:50 pm. Needless to say - Kalaveras is the top chain restaurant in Los Angeles right now. Ive been to 3 different Kalaveras locations in the past week, all for different occasions. Business celebrations, family parties, friendly get togethers, all perfect for the dinner + drink combinations you can make here. I consider the cocktail and drink deals to be the key to Kalaveras recent success. Margarita mondays are a tough deal to beat, especially with the exceptional options provided by the deluxe bar. I highly recommend catching up with an old friend over a Cucumber margarita pitcher (on a Monday if you can swing it). Each location has a unique layout and floor-plan, so expect a different experience depending on which one you go to. The location in Monterey park often has live music and a dance floor. That being said, the food quality of kalaveras can leave a little to be desired. I've tried meat, fish, and veggie dishes - all seem to have the same level of seasoning applied. The salsa is pretty good here, above average for restaurant quality. 100% would recommend for large parties, the extra wide tables at every location are perfect to fit a family or business team. Note - a fair amount of parties are hosted at every location so expect the volume to be very loud. Not suitable for an intimate conversation unless you opt for outdoor seating. Staff are very accommodating, never had a bad experience at any location- keep it up management Love that my last host offered to take photos of my very large group by the large entryway flower wall. 8.5/10 - will be coming back very soon! read more

I placed a take out order through yelp. I received the notification that my food was ready for pick up, but when I arrived, the hostess claimed they were not doing take out orders. The hostess claimed they did not do yelp orders but the app clearly lets you place an order. Also there is a sign right in front advertising takeout orders. The hostess eventually took down my order after I showed them the order confirmation but never offered an explanation or update. I had to ask only to find out that they had to place a new order and it would be an additional 20 minutes. Not once did anyone ever acknowledge or apologize for the error. Maribel was empathetic, personable, patient, and considerate with my father, who is hard of hearing. Despite being next to the DJ, he was able to understand her clearly. The food came out hot but it looked as though it was hastily prepared and it tasted as such. Drinks generally took 15 minutes, food 30 min and there was some kind of miscommunication with the kitchen with my steak fajitas. The hand made corn tortillas were not included with the fajita plate, it took 15 min for the tortitas to be brought out.
