My boyfriend and I came to eat the Taco Tuesday deal with his friends. I simply asked a question if I can get a specific taco for the deal. And the waitress said it wasn't on the deal even though it didn't state it on the deals menu. I pointed at the deals menu so she can clarify, and she immediately said if I wanted to speak to the manager. Which I was confused because that was unnecessary and I said no, that its fine and I agree with the deal. Not even 30 seconds later the manager comes out and tells me that's not on the deal. I said okay that's fine like I had clearly stated to the waitress beforehand. It was very unnecessary to bring out the manager, since I guess the waitress couldn't handle a simple question. Everyone ordered beer, except me, I ordered water. TELL ME WHY MY WATER TASTED LIKE SOAP. OBVIOUSLY IT WAS TAMPERED WITH. Everyone tasted it and agreed that the taste was overpowering, and tasted funny like soap. My boyfriend ordered a second water and it tasted regular. So obviously they put a good amount of soap because it tasted so disgusting. I can't believe this happened to me that waitress needs to be fired immediately, especially if the manager is letting this happen. They probably spit in my food. I loved this place it was amazing, the food and service has always been good. Except for this waitress that clearly had attitude since the beginning. This place was great! It was a nice day so outside seating was perfect for my table. You are greeted with complimentary chips and salsa, which was a great starter. We started our order with the aguachiles and micheladas. The micheladas were at a discount since it was a Thursday. The aguachiles were amazing and had a really spicy kick that I appreciated. With the happy hour, we got the nachos with the added pork belly. The pork belly gave the nachos a salty and sweetness to the nachos which was perfectly washed down with the micheladas. They didn't tell us how it worked or anything. We got up on our to try and figure it out. The food definitely not worth the cost. Even the servers weren't helpful. Our waitress then asks if we want anything to drink. We order our drinks and then we see people getting pitchers of "bottomless mimosas" we were never told drinks were included or anything. Anyway. First time trying Kalavera yesterday. I had vaguely heard of their location in Bellflower through social media but was curious to try them since they took over for Montebello's beloved La Costa. The food and service was good. We started with a queso fundido and I really liked how they added jalapenos, pickled onions, and carrot to it. Next, I got a combination plate with a flauta and chicken enchilada. Beans and rice were good, so was the enchilada but my flauta had nothing in it. I took a bite and opened it to see there was barely any filling in it (supposed to be potato and chorizo) I showed our waitress and she apologized and brought out two more tacos and made sure they had filling, which I appreciated her doing. My reason for 3 stars is the interior of the restaurant. My guess is they're going for an industrial look? But the red booths look like they belong in an old steakhouse like Clearmans and the brown chairs I had to sit in were very uncomfortable for my back and I couldn't properly rest my arms on them. The decor just doesn't flow together with the paintings and quotes on the wall and don't get me started on the floor. It seemed like the restaurant was in a hurry to open because they never even put in tile over the carpet removed from La Costa. Food and service were great, but the interior gets a huge two thumbs down from me. Just my personal opinion. read more

I just moved to Montebello and I looked up restaurants that were fun and I found Kalavers in Montebello. The first time I came here I was attended by Synclare and another bartender who is wonderful. I came back a second time, not expecting the same type of service to my surprise. I got better service Synclare was amazing. I had great customer service skills. My drink was never empty. He asked if we were good always. Not to burn my spot but eating at the bar while Synclare is working is the place to be. read more

The best location in my opinion is the Burbank location they have great customer service, food always hot served fresh and drinks are tasteful. The food was good, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas. I'm bummed they took the chicken fajitas off the menu as those were my go to! First time trying the flan and it was 10/10. Would come here again for just drinks and flan. So glad I gave this place a try and I now know why this location is popular. The minute we walked in we were acknowledged and warmly welcomed, chips and salsa were served immediately followed by the most best server ever to take our drink and appetizer order. Our server was friendly knowledgeable and was present without being in our space too much, like he never hovered or made us feel like he was ready to flip a table for profit. Our food was delicious asada burritos and tacos were so good, flavorful without being over or under cooked and every bite was perfect. Don't sleep on the guacamole it's accompanied by a bowl of chicharrones, hopefully spelled it right. The art on the walls is on theme and the booths are comfortable, tables are also a nice size and you don't feel crowded. Oh and the women's restroom has its walls decorated for selfies if you like that, I'd say if you're a selfie picture lover you'll find a good spot for photos everywhere. Under COVID-19 the Montebello Kalaveras dining is in the rear (shaded) patio with lively music, a large drink menu, and a great menu at reasonable prices ... we arrived Sunday at 5:45 pm and seated promptly. Our server Stephanie was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu ... so we ordered freshly made guacamole (with chicharrons! ), the Molcajete (pricey but plenty to share for 2-3), Green Chile enchiladas (it was spicy), esquites, and the taquito appetizer. Fresh chips and homemade salsas, handmade hot tortillas too. I wish I found this place sooner ... very authentic and delicious food, great atmosphere, lots of free parking, friendly staff. read more

I rate based on delish vegan food and awesome hospitality. ALthough I wish they had more plant-based options on their menu, I was able to order somehitng that was incredible, the Kala Burrito. I swapped beef for beans and asked for no cheese and it came out delish, especailly with the full-of-flavor tomatillo salsa on the side! SO good. My non-vegan colleaugues enjoyed their meals as well, and were thrilled that tacos were half off for Taco Tuesday. The entire staff was awesome. Hospitality is alive and well here. This cool little Mexican spot was just right down the street from me! We walked down to Brew only to discover that it was closed on Mondays! But that this place had Margarita Mondays - a pitcher for $25! So we sat at the bar, munched on chips and salsa and split a pitcher of margaritas. Chips were fresh and the margaritas were delicious and strong. My boyfriend also got a glass of mezcal, which isn't my favorite but he enjoyed it. We were not notified about the time of the buffet by the lady hosts in the front so when we grabbed our plate they started cleaning up the area 10 min afterwards. I have to say that I have been to several locations and kalaveras ambiance is always awesome but this review is really about my experience with a server at this location... Georgie was absolutely an incredible server ... He is really on top of his customer service!.. We were taken care of immediately upon arrival which is awesome for a Friday night...our drinks and food were brought out so fast and I never had to flag him down for anything because he checked in on us several times. So I guess its safe to say that Kalaveras is just not for me , had a bad experience with guest service in the one in whittier and this one just wasn't it. My order was wrong but decided not to complain since the girl said it was her first time as a waitress. I wanted potato and cheese enchilada and she said there was no more potato tacos, I was like ok cool chicken . I ended up getting a potato taco and a chicken enchilada. The food isn't great not bad its average , the drinks were ok, but the time it takes to order and to get your food is what I didn't like. Customer service is where is lacking for me. read more
