    Parillada

Kalaveras is my friend's birthday go-to spot because they always deliver on reasonable prices, delicious food, and exceptional service. They went all out for her birthday and they also worked with us to make sure that her birthday cake was brought out during the happy birthday song! Our server cracked jokes the entire night and made sure we got sauces and water whenever we needed. As for the food, we started with the Kala Sampler, which has asada nacho bites, chicken buffalo wings, potato and chicken tinga, and taquito dorados. The Kala Sampler is good for four people so order accordingly if you have a bigger party. My hubby and I shared the parillada, which had multiple meats that can be put into either a corn or flour tortilla along with rice and beans. For meat, we had marinated steak, chicken breast, seasoned shrimp, cactus, and chorizo. My favorite was the seasoned shrimp. The steak felt dry to me but everything was still good and flavorful with the molcajete salsa, which tasted like sweet tomato. We were not able to finish and had to take most of this home because the portions are just that generous! All this for the price of $55 for the parillada. They also offer this service where they take a complimentary group photo and they print other individual and couple photos for sale. I never understood the business model of these services but at least you get a complimentary photo with the Kalaveras logo!

This was awesome! The food was great and inexpensive. The service was quick and on top of the service. We were being checked on and didn't need a single thing! There's screens everywhere to watch the football game. It was really fun to be with a group of friends or family. I definitely enjoyed it here. Food was warm and flavorful.

Came into town and came back to this place. Food here is very good and delicious. And they have a good price for lunch and drinks and food here for lunch is a good portion. Service here is good, I told the waitress and the manager I came here for the drink but, for some reason it didn't taste the same as 9 months ago when I came into town and compare to my first visit, and they wanted to remake the drinks for me but I had to leave. But next time I will still come back because the food, service and it was a pleasant visit for us to come back here. Ambience here wasn't crowded when we came around 1:00pm overall I recommended everyone come here and try their food if you haven't been here.

This was my first time visiting Kalaveras in Montebello, and we went for lunch to celebrate Karla's birthday. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed perfect for a weekday lunch outing. I ordered four tacos: pastor, carne asada, barbacoa, and chicken. My favorite was definitely the pastor full of flavor and really well prepared. The barbacoa was good but could have had a little more seasoning. I had the green salsa, which was mildly spicy and just right for me. For my drink, I ordered the berry mocktail. It was a bit sweet at first, but once I added some water, it tasted perfect and very refreshing. Some of the girls ordered the same tacos I did, while others tried the tacos de papa, and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. We celebrated Karla's birthday during lunch, and she ordered a flan for dessert. We sang happy birthday, which made the moment feel extra special. The service was great friendly, attentive, and never rushed. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and had a calm, pleasant vibe for a Tuesday afternoon. Another highlight was Taco Tuesday tacos were only $1.99, which made the experience even better. Overall, it was a really nice lunch, and I would definitely come back again.

Ambience is quite noisy on the inside but there's plenty of seating both inside and outside! Service was lovely as we received our food rather quickly and were regularly checked up on. Food was delicious! I really enjoyed the enchiladas the most and have previously enjoyed their birria tacos

Came in in a Tuesday during happy hour and the restaurant was fairly empty. The tacos were small but pretty good. I ordered the slushy lime margarita and it wasn't much of a slushy, but it still hit! Great vibe and very attentive server.

Best deal in town is Taco Tuesday. Granted, many restaurants offer a special on Tuesday. I've tried different places and Kalaveras truly is the best in price and taste. There are 6 proteins to choose from, plus unlimited toppings. Each taco was $1.49 x 3 = $4.47. On my photos you can see the variety of grilled veggies and freshly made salsas. Add a beverage, tax and tip and your dinner is under $10.00. I must also mention the fantastic brunch on Sunday, $39.99 for adults (kids price is $19). The food is set up buffet style, with multiple food stations, seafood, pancakes, made to order omelets, and is AYCE (all you can eat). It's an impressive spread, there is something for all tastes and/or dietary preferences. It's a lively place with a DJ indoors and disco lights, seems like a party going on. There is a spacious patio with lots of tables, the music is at a lower volume, easier to have a little conversation. Bring the family and don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya!

Free parking on the lot in the back. Came during Taco Tuesday. The tacos were $1.99 each. My favorite was the lengua. The others were good but either too salty or too sweet. You can get a plate of rice and beans for $5. The music was way too loud to have a conversation. We had to yell at each other to hear 50%. The waitresses don't even talk anymore, guess they learned to read lips. Great place to hang out. Not the place to talk.

If you're looking for a party place, Kalaveras is it! Loud music, colorful decor, fun birthday celebrations (think smaller scale Vegas style..yes there is a marqee and bottle service is a paid option). Great for groups. Great Happy Hour (no complimentary chips and salsa during happy hour though). Service is usually friendly. One of my best friends is a regular so she knows the staff and is welcomed with open arms. I've been to this Silverlake location a handful of times. I don't have a favorite meal item. Yet. I am working on it though. Free parking lot available across the street plus whatever street parking might be available.

From all the Kalaveras locations Montebello is the best, great service from the best waiter Alberto and Manager Edgar

Kalaveras of Montebello was my go spot for any occasion I was such a loyal customer that we even had our wedding there unfortunately they have change GM and the restaurant has gone down last night my husband and I went for dinner around 8pm on a Friday but to our surprise the place was dead we order and after the appetizer we decided to cancel our dinner order and leave we end at La Barca in Downey. Last night was my last time at kalaveras we were very disappointed

A must-visit for authentic Mexican food! The drinks are refreshing, the guacamole is fresh and creamy, and the ceviche is perfectly balanced. The lomo plate is a hearty, flavorful meal. Good tacos to try. Highly recommend! Great vibe for celebrating special moments, like a mom's birthday! The staff provide excellent service, and the atmosphere is perfect for family gatherings.

It wasn't your typical corner haunt. There was an intentionality here that turned a simple evening out into a genuine education. The curation of spirits was nothing short of impressive, but what set the experience apart was the conversation. I arrived knowing the difference between a glass and a bottle, but left with a newfound appreciation for the nuances of rum, the craftsmanship behind a smooth whiskey, and the unexpected complexities hidden within a well-made vodka. Each pour came with a story, a history, and a level of expertise that transformed every sip into a lesson. The atmosphere was the perfect anchor for it all--utterly chill and devoid of the frantic, forced energy you find elsewhere. It was the kind of place where the music sits at just the right volume and the lighting invites you to actually linger. It was refreshing to find a spot that treats its craft with such respect while keeping the vibe completely grounded. I walked out feeling a little more cultured and a lot more relaxed. Consider this my official notice: I'll definitely be back.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've been transported somewhere else. Every room is thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere is immersive and unlike anything we've experienced before. The storyteller was welcoming, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning about the history of alcohol and the stories behind each tasting. The cocktails were definitely on the stronger side, but you could tell they were crafted with high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat tainted by our hostess. She came across as impatient and unwelcoming, which set the tone early on. When we first entered, we were each handed a small glass of liquid, and then she immediately walked away without explaining what it was or what we were supposed to do with it. We assumed it was a welcome drink, so we all took a sip only to discover it was actually a palate cleanser. A little guidance would have gone a long way. The next room had a beautiful bayou-inspired setting. While the historical information was interesting, I found myself wishing the experience leaned more into the mystical or magical themes that the venue seems to promise. One thing worth mentioning is the restroom setup. I don't mind coed restrooms, but there was no signage explaining that the restroom is shared with two open stalls. Some guests may appreciate a heads-up, especially those who might feel uncomfortable or triggered by that arrangement. After the tastings, you're taken outside. A few of us stopped to use the restroom first, and when we returned, our friend had already left the table and all of our drinks had been cleared away. We were disappointed because we hadn't finished them. Our friend had been told she couldn't take the drinks with her, but when we returned we could take them outside. She was told that they'd be there when we got back. We were disappointed. The outdoor portion of the experience also felt a bit rushed. We barely had time to enjoy our drinks, let alone take photos of the beautiful space. The beignets at the end, however, were absolutely delicious and a highlight of the evening! Finally, we were escorted to the members-only bar, which was stunning. It gave off major Harry Potter vibes with its hidden, magical atmosphere. One of my friends was still finishing her drink on the patio since we couldn't legally walk on the sidewalk with it. Our hostess told us she'd come back for us but she never did. After waiting quite a while, another staff member happened to walk by and kindly helped us. Once inside, everything turned around again. The bartender was warm, friendly, and helped us choose drinks off the menu. I ordered the piña colada, and while it was much stronger and different from the traditional version I'm used to, it was absolutely delicious!!! Despite some service issues and inconsistent communication, I would still recommend Obscure. The concept is unique, the cocktails are excellent, and the venue is truly one of a kind. I'm hoping our hostess was simply having an off day, because with more attentive service, this experience could easily be five stars.

[Parking]: Free small public parking lot directly across from the shop. [Amenities]: This is a really small coffee shop with no indoor tables and only two small outdoor tables. All drinks are made with oat milk. Please note that the kitchen closes at 1 PM on Monday - Tuesday and 2 PM on Wednesday- Sunday even though the cafe remains open for another 1 - 2 hours. Come early for anyone wanting to try kitchen items like breakfast burrito or breakfast sandwich. *** Banana nut (double espresso, house made vanilla cold foam, house made banana syrup - medium $7.50): It came with two banana chips. The cold foam was quite underrated and I could taste a hint of banana flavor. The drink wasn't as sweet as I had expected - I liked it. Breakfast burrito (Refried beans, soyrizo, tofu scramble, crispy hashbrowns and sliced avocado wrapped in a flour tortilla - $13.50): Portion wasn't huge, but it also wasn't small enough to finish in one sitting. It had one of the softest texture for breakfast burritos. The soyrizo was very flavorful. It also came with a side of salsa - quite spicy but flavorful at the same time. *** I probably still prefer meat-based breakfast burritos, but their soyrizo breakfast burrito is quite good and the coffee drink is excellent (4.5-star for both items). I would definitely recommend this small coffee shop for a quick grab-and-go.
