One of our friends told us this place had just opened, had a great experience once already, and suggested we come here so we all went on Labor Day [09.04] You definitely have to know what you are looking for because you have to take a little speakeasy looking elevator up to the top floor to get to it but it is accessible from the Main Street. There were a couple hostesses placed there which made it easier to find for sure. All of them were very polite and offered to put our name down in case we were unable to find seating in the open-seating bar area so we did. We got upstairs and were very happy to find seating that overlooked Old Town and grabbed a seat. Tamra was our server and she was AWESOME! I loved her opinions when it came to the menu, she was great about checking in with us, and it was never hard to get her attention if we needed anything. I decided to order 1 carnitas taco and 1 carne asada taco. Both were delicious but they definitely have more ingredients in the carnitas taco so I favored that one most. They had a DJ who had a bunch of the ladies dancing to Spanish music right inside near the bar so they looked like they were all enjoying themselves. The deck was a great view, we had a photographer come around taking pictures and she did a good job as well! We paid 16$ for our photo and it was well worth it to remember the evening so I thought that was a great touch to the restaurant because I am a sucker for those little mementos :P. Amazingly rude bar tender! Wife and walked in and sat at the bar. No one else sitting at the bar except us and an employee that was off work. 4 people walked in behind us and sat at the other end of the bar. The bartender continued to ignore us then proceeded to clean the bar and take the orders of the 4 people at the other end. We looked at each other and decided to leave. This is a new restaurant in town, right above where Coin-Op is. This place has a fun vibe with all the art and culture surrounding the dining room, but also can be family friendly as where were many couples with children enjoy dinner together. Came here on a raining day during happy hour. I can say the service was good. The happy hour food was good. The carne asada fries are really good that day. You can taste the smoke on the meat and the orange they've marinated it in along with other spices. The birria tacos were ok. I wouldn't recommend the mix drinks though. I visited this place for the first time on Saturday after seeing advertisements on social media. The decor was vibrant, and the music created a lively atmosphere; however, I immediately noticed that the floor needed cleaning, as it was sticky throughout. Decided to try this place out and after the green enchiladas came out I quickly realized this was not authentic Mexican food, the green sauce was very similar to canned sauce, very disappointing but that's not the worst part. My partner had to use the restroom in the middle of dinner, he walked in the men's restroom and an employee who was the one in charge of running out food (he also brought our food out to us)! Was at the urinal so my partner went into the stall, that's when he noticed the employee used the urinal and walked right out of the men's restroom without washing his hands, totally discussing and I wish we would have known this prior to eating the food. Tried this place for the 1st time, great service, nice decor, and fun youthful vibe. Had the Lomo Saltado and it was SCRUMPTIOUS!!! I will be going back for sure. My boyfriend had a seafood appetizer and a Barbaco wet burrito and it was also tasty. They seem to have a drink special every night night and not just during happy hour, I had a Michelada and it was very good. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is sitting in the small 2 people booths very uncomfortable the table is too far away from the booth seat back rest so I had to sit right near the table to eat with no back support. read more

I visited Kalaveras about 10 months ago when it was pretty new to Old Town Temecula and the food & service were phenomenal so I had given it 5 stars. My family is in town visiting for my step-sisters 21st birthday so I figured this would be a great spot because it was so much fun the first time I had visited--let me just start by saying how completely embarrassed I am that I brought my family here to celebrate such a big occasion. This place has gone down hill BIG TIME. I had made a reservation in advance for a party of 8 people (all my family members) and made note that we were celebrating my sister's 21st birthday. No one from the hostess to our server acknowledged that it was her birthday--not even when I told them "we're here celebrating her 21st" did they say "Oh, happy birthday!"--they said nothing. To make matters worse, they carded my sister and then acted skeptical that she was actually 21 because her ID is from Illinois--when they brought us all out our drinks, all of our drinks had alcohol EXCEPT HERS!!! It tasted like juice! We complained immediately and had it sent back to make another. Although we were happy with the quality and taste of the food, we all got our meals at separate times; A couple people would get their meals, then we'd have a long delay before another two people got their meals, then another long delay---it was ridiculous because one VERY old man was the only person running food and he was VERY slowly bringing out only two plates at a time! Not our server or anyone else bothered to help bring out food. It was ridiculous. After the old gentleman finally served us our meals, our server NEVER came back to check on us. We were completely out of drinks (never got a single refill of anything or asked if we wanted to order more drinks); our chips were empty yet there was still a full bowl of $14 guacamole on the table wasting away (mind you, he never brought us the salsa we requested either from the start); and everyone's mouths were completely on fire because the food was super spicy. It's fine that it was spicy--we like spicy food--but Jesus Christ, at least keep our drinks refilled! At this point, I was absolutely pissed and got up to go find our server. I said "Dude, you literally haven't come back to our table since you took our order--we're all completely out of drinks and chips!" He apologized and made his way over to us but by the time he did, everyone had finished their meals and just wanted to get out of there so we just got some waters and asked for the check. I should also mention that this USED to be a fun place--at least it was the first time I went here. The music was loud and it was lively so I thought it would be the perfect place for my sister's 21st birthday--let me tell you, this place is not like that anymore! It was a Thursday night, and although Old Town Temecula was absolutely packed with people, Kalaveras was completely dead. The music was so low you could barely hear it and it kept cutting off so it was dead silent in the restaurant for long periods of time throughout our dinner and made things so awkward!!!! I literally commented to the staff like "What is going on with the music?!" Overall, this place pretty much ruined our night. I'm so disappointed that I brought my family here to celebrate my sister's birthday, paid $300, and it ended up as a complete disaster! I won't be returning to Kalaveras anytime soon. read more

The vibe in Kalaveras is so bright and fun! The neon skulls cover the entire restaurant and the music is played on televisions throughout the place. The service was so friendly and attentive, I saw servers offer to take pictures for its customers and checking in frequently! Another employee comes around and offers professional photos to take home with you if you wish to purchase (comes with a themed frame). My family really enjoyed the Kala burrito and my favorite was the empanadas (comes in beef, chicken, and spinach). Overall a fun, pleasant experience! read more

We stop by Kalaveras at Old Town Temecula for dinner with margaritas (with mezcal instead of tequila!). We ordered the barbacoa, which is delicious!, and some chicharrón, asada, and shrimp tacos. All the food is excellent, but the service provided by Alejandra, Jazmin, Tina, and Abraham, was just stellar. At the end they surprised my wife, who celebrated her birthday a couple of weeks ago, with las mañanitas by the staff dressed as mariachis. Great place, and the ambiance is pretty festive. read more

I will write my review in a professional way. From what I experience, they have poor business practices. Certain staff members will take things personal with any interacts they don't like. There are certain customers they will judge quickly and not acknowledged. They will have them wait for a long time to be attended and certain customers will be attended right away. I see the one star review of previous customers having the same experience. I was one of the witnesses who saw the staff kicked a bunch of people out protecting an entitled bartender's feelings. I saw the bartender started it with the customer when he spoke Spanish to her. After she engaged in speaking Spanish back, she asked why are you speaking Spanish instead of English in a rude way. The customer stood up for himself and the other customer was trying to defuse the situation. Then, the bartender pull the victim card and had them kicked out. She knows she was on the wrong trying to protect her reputation. I bar hop all the time I seen way worse rowdy customers and the staff handled it well without kicking them out. They normally give warnings before escalating to that level. After discovering what the company culture is all about, I can tell its personal feelings over maximizing profits. All I can say in a business common sense, the company is doing business in a bar hopping environment and it's a tourist area not far from the winery. There will be all types of customers that won't culturally fit in a walking on egg shells environment. All the customers care about is having a good time and distress about what they are dealing with in their personal life. In conclusion, the company can do business the way they want. I am not going to force it to change other than complain, write reviews, and give recommendations. There are better bars that give better customer service in that area. I am writing this review to stand up against the emotional bullying, the slandering, encouraging people to stand up for themselves, and saving future customers time. Staff were very attentive and Tamara was an amazing waitress!! Drinks were made good (I can only speak for the tequila). Food was decent but not the best as someone coming from LA and SD, I highly recommend the Empanadas though! My biggest complaint: Kalaveras is more of a drink/night out type of place at least that's how the other locations are (LA). With that being said, I wish there could be a better method for music other than searching song by song on YouTube. After getting our drinks there was about a 20 minute gap before she came back for our orders. I'm not sure if she was having an off day, she just wasn't very polite and was short with us. The manager checked on us and he was very nice but the experience was not good with our waitress. That's really too bad because we were celebrating a birthday. This was the most boring one by far and I've been to Riverside, Corona, San Bernardino and LA, because again, I love Kalaveras. This one was nothing more than a restaurant playing music. The service was just as awful, the waiter was not thorough, rushed to take orders, and just seemed overall like he had somewhere better to be. We had to flag him down for everything. We ordered chips and guac as an appetizer, finished it and ordered another, the second one didn't come out until after we were done with our entree. What's the point now ? My entree came and then literally 3 minutes later, my dessert came, then they rushed to sing happy birthday. I don't go to Kalaveras because the food is amazing, it's good but it's not like mind blowing or extremely flavorful but again, THIS location was pretty bad, everything was bland and lacked the little bit of flavor that it normally has. Came here for girls night out on a Friday night and loved it. A very lively atmosphere and modern decor. I ordered a strawberry margarita and the loaded nachos. Both very delicious. Service was great. Server checked in on us throughout the night, and took plates and drinks from the table as needed. Wouldn't bring kids here, at least not to be seated inside as it's extremely loud. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Lastly, most of the servers, from what I could tell, looked to be Latino and spoke to us in Spanish, which I really appreciated being that Temecula lacks diversity. Ambiance is amazing, music playing people laughing. Food was amazing, however it doesn't come with much sides so the prices add up quickly. Drinks were amazing I had the Horchata Colada! It was a great birthday celebration. You get a complimentary strawberry sundae with a huge sign singing and cheers. There's also a photographer that goes around asking to take pics of your party. $16 for one or $26 for 2 memories.
