My wife and I both really enjoy this restaurant. We have been here more than a dozen times. We highly recommend the fire cracker shrimp appetizer and also enjoy the dumplings. I am the type of person to try different entree's each visit whereas my wife finds what she likes and gets the same thing every time .... Pad Pak (fried rice with chicken and extra veggies... medium spice) I have not had any dish that I did not enjoy, here are some of the remarkable ones that I would recommend: Pork Ribs in Panang Curry Salmon GA Prow Beef Massaman Curry Shrimp in the Pot (Kung OB Woon Sen) Pad See Aiw Gang Panang Pad Med Mamuang We did try the Mango Black Sticky Rice with Coconut Sauce once, but it just wasn't for us, not that it was bad... but just not sweet enough for our taste for a dessert. 5 stars for sure and we don't plan on taking this place out of our restaurant rotation anytime soon. SHRIMP PAD THAI noodles were tough, undercooked and chewy. I was disappointed after seeing all of the great reviews and paying $15 for this dish. I got my dish to go. Service was excellent. Decor of restaurant excellent. Fresh seasonings like bean sprouts and green onion in pad Thai was definitely missing. Balance of peanut /fish oil flavor was missing. Spice level was good. First time trying this place. The food was delicious. I'm definitely a foodie and find that being Asian , I tend to be pickier with Asian cuisine. I thought their appetizers were delicious and for such a great price and overall the food was just perfect portions and tasted great. In addition the service was phenomenal! We came in at the same time all the tables were full and there was only one server who gave us exceptional service. We'll start with the negatives first. Negatives: there are none! ...that was easy. Positives: everything. Kao Thai can be differentiated from other Thai restaurants simply because they offer their entrees in modern-sophisticated ways. Take for example, their firecracker shrimp. This appetizer was presented with a shot glass of plum (sweet and sour) sauce, a small bed of mixed greens, and the shrimp, of course! The shrimp was wrapped in a crispy blanket. I do wish the portions were a little bigger, in a non-greedy way *hehe*. It's just always nice to have some food for sharing. Sharing is caring! Main entree: I really enjoyed my Khao pad Sapparod dish. The first time I had tofu which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This dish reminds me of a Hawaiian style fried rice because there's pineapple in it. The second time I had it I ordered it with the shrimp and it was also very delicious. My boyfriend had chicken pad Thai and he enjoyed his meal as well! If you can't handle spice, it's alright because you can pick your spice level. Definitely check them out! read more

This is my favorite Thai place in St. Pete the Pad Thai is amazing and the dumplings are really unique. They are great w the spice level if you've got someone with a sensitive palette and they are generous in their portions. They also have great curry and wings if you want something different. I have driven WAY out of the way to go here and it's always been well worth it. read more

Beautiful restaurant with a great vibe/atmosphere. This definitely feels like more of a downtown St Pete kind of restaurant (trendy/stylish/artsy), glad to see it here in Pinellas Park and hope they stick around for a while! Very diverse menu with dishes I've never seen anywhere before. More of an upscale menu from the other Thai restaurants. Presentation on all dishes was impressive. I really liked the fish cake app. Give me some steamed rice and papaya salad and I could have been good with this as my main meal! I ordered the Southern Thai Curry Noodles as my entree. The curry sauce w/ the pureed tuna was soooo yummy. Loved it. Tried the others dishes at the table and everything was really good. Pad Thai Goong - the prawns were huge! Noodles were good, needed some spice though (my personal preference). Pork Rib Panang Curry - delicious! Meat was really tender and flavorful with the curry. Chiang Mai Curry Noodles (Northern Thailand dish) - very distinctive from the Southern Thai Curry Noodles. This was also a good dish. Ended our meal with some amazing coconut ice cream w/ lychee jelly. The perfect light and refreshing end to our meal! Our server was awesome. Came here for my birthday lunch last week and had a great experience. We started off with the vegetable rolls (similar to spring rolls) and peanut sauce. The peanut sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but it was also somewhat sweet and super tasty. 5 stars for the vegetable rolls! The interior is modern and clean. You have the feel of being at an upscale bistro without the hefty price tag. We also enjoyed the lunch special which is currently priced at $8.95. You can essentially pick any type of noodle dish and your meat or tofu preference. I chose the tofu pad Thai. The pad Thai was tasty for a mild version. The fried tofu had a nice texture on the outside the the creamy tofu flavor on the inside. It also comes with a small side salad. The portion is not dinner sized, but was also more than I could eat for lunch. Definitely value to the meal, in that regard. I should have taken more pictures of the meal, but I figured I'd be back soon to try more dishes! read more

Had the Penang curry with Shrimp and noodles instead of rice. The Shrimp were of an impressive size not the baby ones found in many oriental restaurants. The curry was spicy but with the right amount of heat . The service was attentive and friendly. I will be back! read more

Especially being $3-5 more per dish than most Thai food joints I expected more in both quality and quantity. - Thai fries: $6 for just a handful of regular fries. Didn't taste any herb seasoning it was supposed to have, just salt. The only thing Thai about it was their sweet and sour sauce. But it's my mistake for ordering fries at a Thai restaurant. - Beef Pad Kee Mao: too sweet and way too soy sauce-y - Chiang Mai Curry Noodles (Khao Soi): my order came out with rice noodles, not egg noodles. Traditional Khao Soi uses egg noodles. Curry wasn't creamy and lacked depth in its flavors. read more

I had dinner here last Saturday night with friends, and it was great! Definitely a nice change on the usual Thai food restaurants we usually go to. The restaurant is in Pinellas Park, but when you walk inside the place it feels like you are in a downtown St Pete, trendy spot. The decor is really nice. Soft tables (I don't know how else to describe this lol), wooden menus, red bow napkins, etc. Adorable! Our host and server were so friendly and informative as it was the first time there for all 4 of us. We ordered 2 apps: fish cakes and steamed dumplings. The presentation was top notch. Both were definitely tasty and unique. Dumplings were not just ordinary ones from every restaurant. Entrees - We had the Rib Curry, pad Thai, tuna noodle dish, and another noodle dish. Our server let us know that each of our entrees was actually from a different part of Thailand - North, South, and Central. Educational! I definitely loved the tuna noodle dish (can't remember the exact name) and pad Thai. The flavors were definitely so unique and yummy. Presentation for all dishes was superb. We also had the coconut ice cream with jellies and WOW! So delicious. I had a great experience and will definitely be back to try more menu items. Wow. Kao Thai Kitchen is not your typical Thai restaurant. Kao is more of an upscale Thai restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic, clean and extremely nice. They are in the former Da Sesto location. However, they definitely changed it and made it their own. When you receive the menu, it looks like your typical thai food. Prices are slightly higher than a lot of similar restaurants. However, when the food arrives you forget about all of that. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. -Fried dumplings - 5/5 - Wow. These are unlike any fried dumplings that I have ever had. Make sure you view my pictures. These little fried pockets of deliciousness were perfect with the savory soy dipping sauce. It will be hard not to order these again. Definitely worth the $8. -Rama (with beef) - 5/5 - This was my entree. I wasn't sure what I wanted when I walked in, but this peanut butter dish jumped out at me from the menu. I ordered it medium (which is semi spicy). This is the best peanut butter sauce I have ever had. I will come back again and again just for this sauce. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It comes with broccoli and baby corn and a meat of your choice. I tried beef this time. I may have dreams about this dish. -Pork Ribs Panang Curry - 5/5 - My Husband's dish. He loved it! I had a bite of the ribs and they were really flavorful and well cooked. He did mention that the meat was slightly fatty, but he doesn't mind that. The vegetables were a little al dente for his tastes, but he liked the ribs and curry enough to still give it 5 stars. -Coconut ice cream - 5/5 - They surprised us with a special treat of coconut ice cream with jellies and beans. The beans...meh. They are mostly for texture. You can't really taste beans. I would prefer it without. The jellies were really good and gave your palate a break from the coconut ice cream. The coconut ice cream was SO good. It definitely has a nice coconut flavor. It is creamy and smooth. The perfect dessert after a spicy thai dinner. We will definitely be back to Kao. I am hoping that they do really well. We had a discussion after dinner and decided that this was a different type of Thai food. It doesn't compare to other Thai restaurants in the way that a burger fast food place does not compare to a gourmet burger spot. We will add this in to our rotation for sure. First time checking out this new Thai Restaurant in Pinellas Park for lunch and I enjoyed it. Had a little mishap with my appetizer, ordered their wings and it was still cold in the middle, informed the server she was very polite and accommodating without making it an issue. She apologized gave me a fresh order and didn't charge me for the inconvenience. That kind of customer service will make me come back along with the tasty good. Food: Apps,Ordered Crispy wings, very flavorful and moist. Hubby had Tom Kha with chicken very coconutty. Entree: Panang ribs which are slowed cooked and marinated for 4 hours was very tasty and crispy yet fall off the bone tender. Hubby had Shrimp with broccoli in garlic sauce also yummy. Decor: Nice, clean and inviting decor but a little dim with Edison bulbs throughout restaurant. Service: Outstanding! Only thing I would suggest is a better spice tray that includes fish sauce with fresh chilis. We asked and she brought out a whole bowl which was above and beyond our expectation. Really looking forward to trying out more dishes. Side note we eat very spicy food and normally get Thai Hot but since it was our first time there we ordered Hot and it was perfect. read more

I had the Tom Yum soup. Probably the best in town. Right amount of spice. Not too overbearing. I ask for the spice level of "hot," which is the second to the hottest level. In my mind, it was exactly what I wanted when it comes to Thai food. Hot but not to the point of chugging water to drown out the flames. Hubby and I had dinner here last night and were very much pleasantly surprised. It's tucked in a weird little strip center on 66th, there's not much else around. However, when we walked in the door we were pretty much blown away by the decor. It's got that rustic/hipster meets asian vibe- lots of edison bulbs, creative table lighting, they even fold the napkins into little bows. Its frankly adorable. The menu here is best described as "upscale thai." There's a set of entrees that are a little more creative- snapper, chiang mai noodles, duck confit, and then the traditional entrees. Honestly, we didn't come here for the traditional stuff, so we bypassed that page altogether. It's a tad more expensive than your typical thai takeout, but it's a great date spot and the service was spot on. We started off with Hot Sake ($9/bottle) and the app they brought us for our first time- firecracker shrimp. They're jump shrimp wrapped in wonton wrapper, fried, and served with a sweet & sour sauce. I thought the shrimp was wonderful and well prepared, but the sauce could have used a little more flavor. We went with the "Thai Pork Jerky" as an app. The flavor was really good. It's not exactly jerky, which is probably a good thing. They're strips of pork, seasoned and cooked so they're a little crispy on the outside. They serve it with a very spicy red sauce that added a nice kick. For entrees I went with the pork rib in Panang Curry and the husband went with Gang Ped Yang- a duck confit in curry. I really liked my pork rib, though it was not what I expected. Rather than being american style ribs, it was one big slow cooked rib served in some of the best panang curry I've had in a long time. Hubby loved his duck and said he would definitely order it again. We just went to Kao Thai Kitchen for the second time, and it's sooooo good. We've come each time we've been in town. This time, we had the Papaya Salad, Duck noodle soup and Beef Massaman. I hope the community rallies around this restaurant because it's so high quality and great service. Plenty of space for distancing in the restaurant as well. So the food had some really good points. Pretty good flavor. Big chunks of vegetables in everything made it hard to get a bite with various flavors on many dishes (soup, fried rice, etc...) the portions were pretty small, and it was pricey. The service was ok. The ambiance was horrible. It was freezing. Seating was terribly uncomfortable. The weird samba elevator music was horrible and very loud. Weird decor, too. Ambiance is going to kill that restaurant. The phad Thai noodles were tasty but really saucy and definitely not worth running back for. We also had curry pork ribs which sounded good but were very greasy. Service was great and a cute place. As you can see in the photos of other yelpers, it's lovely inside. As you can also see, the entrees are presented beautifully. We came for lunch and we were the only ones dining. If I hadn't read reviews we might have been worried we were taking a chance but I did which allowed us to bask in the cozy modern-ish ambiance without any fret. The calamari was spectacular. It was fresh, tender but firm, lightly fried and served with a rather sensuous Thai chili sauce. I can see us ordering it every time we visit. My girlfriend chose the shrimp fried rice because she's boring like that. It was outrageously delicious just the same, tho. I ordered pad Thai because it gives me an indication of whether I'll be stopping by regularly to try others things but it seldom so bad that I don't enjoy it. It was so terribly good I was disappointed that I didn't try something more adventurous myself. Rama next time and I think I will ask of they can make it with the crispy duck. Oh, the service. Almost forgot. Immediately after our server brought our food I realized I didn't have chop sticks. I raised my hand and said excuse me and both girls working in restaurant SPRINTED to our table. So I have been coming here for some time & I think it's fair I do a review. When you walk into the restaurant whether day or night. It has a very calm relaxing ambiance to it as the cool air envelopes you from the outside hot environment. The hip & trendy jazz music softly plays in the background as I am then greeted by a young & beautiful Thai woman who then seats me & proceeds to ask how I am with a warm smile on her face. I am greeted again by a large ice water to quench my thirst. The service here is great, very respectful & attentive. I've just about had everything on the menu. My favorite meals of course would be the curry duck, coconut milk soup & fried pork dumpling. The curry duck has a curry raise that is not just delicious but silky texture to it. The crispy duck is cooked to perfection as it mixes so well with the curry it's like an orgasm in every bite! Coconut milk soup is the best I've had in my life! It's creamy, yet the flavors collide so violently it creates a tasteful calm that vibrates throughout my body brining peace. Fried pork dumpling is something to talk about, so good, so moist & tender you can really eat alot of this!!!! My overall opinion of the food, decor & people are excellent. I would highly recommend you try the food here!!!! I usually leave a bigger tip than usual because the food & service is amazing & I know because I frequent the resturant, there are certain groups of people who don't leave tips, you should leave a tip, the people who serve you rely on tips, I can understand not leaving a tip if the service is terrible, just don't be cheap. While waiting for 45 minutes for a table at a hot pot restaurant, only to be told it would be another half hour before they they could seat us, we decided to try out luck somewhere else. Driving down a couple of blocks we notice an attractive Thai restaurant sign and decided stop. This was a WONDERFUL surprise. With a very upscale, city vibe, decor this place did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. My daughter had the pork ribs panang which was full of tender, fall off the bone, meat with a kick. I had the chicken pad Thai...awesome. Full bar options as well. Not a lot of people inside so I hope this review will encourage people to support local business and partake in this delicious Thai experience. read more

10/10 on flavor-- I really enjoyed the food here. The special fried chicken thigh was so good, I felt like a vulture scrapping for meat off a carcass. Ok-- horrible example-- but it was so good. Also got another dish, can't recall the name but it had pieces of crunch rice and nam. Flavor through the roof. And the pad Thai- a dish I often find to be meh because there is so much more to Thai food than Pad Thai was some of the best I've ever had. For desert we had mango and black rice and these white little coconut flan like things-- I don't eat a lot of deserts so no idea what they're called-- but both were really good as well. This review is more like a 4.5 star, since the taste was great. Seriously yummy food. My only criticism is the dish sizes are on the smaller size. The pad Thai was good in dish size. But the other dishes were a bit small. The crunchy rice and nam, for example, was maybe the size of a fist? On a plate. The Fried chicken was a leg and thigh. Delicious. But know if that's something you like and the table likes it too, you may need to order like 2 of that dish. read more

they steal your money and food was mediocre with an insane amount of red and green peppers, i took out what i didnt want in my curry and it filled up a whole other plate. i ordered shrimp panang curry which the menu was $13.95. i added mushrooms so i figured there was an up charge of a dollar or so but when i got the bill the receipt said $18.95! $5 extra for mushrooms? my friend also got up charged even though she didnt add anything to her $13.95 curry dish making it $16.95. we asked why we were up charged so much and the waitress mumbled something about a credit card fee and said it was their fault?? nowhere or no one mentioned a credit card fee. also how did you know we were paying with a card when the price was printed on a paper before we came up to pay? i had cash and would have paid cash no problem but im sure they wouldnt of taken those up charges off the bill unless i had questioned the discrepancy between the menu and my bill. so be careful of what theyre charging you because theyre quite literally stealing money on the sly. no one was in there eating, they must be down bad stealing from customers. business doesnt seem good and neither was the food . there are plenty of other authentic thai restaurants that dont steal from their customers! would never recommend or go there again. read more

Nice Thai There I always get two things when I first go to a Thai restaurant: Tom Kha soup and Pad Thai noodles. Those are the basics. If those are good, everything else is a bonus. And here they're pretty good. The Tom Kha needs a little more zip. Some extra lime juice would have been good. The Pad Thai was also a little flat. More cayenne, garlic and lime would have improved the dish. We also had the Firecracker Shrimp which was good with a nice tamarind dipping sauce. Kao Thai isn't my favorite Thai restaurant in mid-Pinellas, but it is good. And the atmosphere and service are nice. read more

We arrived around 8:15 (closing time is 9pm) and the restaurant is very nice on the inside and clean. I liked the ambiance. We ordered for appetizers the papaya salad and the spring egg rolls followed by Thai fried rice with pork and sweet n sour chicken. Everything was authentic and very delicious. The service was great and food was outstanding I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in town. The sweet Thai tea is a must try as well. read more

I absolutely love Thai food. I just moved to the area and have tried several different Thai places and this is by far the best. I always get Pad See Ew with chicken. Often I will get take out for lunch. It comes with a salad (which from other Thai places I usually don't enjoy and immediately discard lol) but I actually really like their dressing. The lunch also comes with an egg roll. Again, not my favorite side but it might be the best egg roll I have had at a Thai place. Their Pad See Ew is exactly how I like it. Always hot, not peppery (I hate when they do that), you have the option of how spicy you want (I usually just order as is), the noodles are long and typical of classic Pad See Ew, the sauce is flavorful, portion is good. I typically eat it in one sitting but if I had any self control if could last me two meals. My one critique is that I would like more Thai broccoli but I could always ask for extra next time now that I know. The dish is $9.50 which seems pretty standard, maybe a little on the high end to eat everyday for lunch (I wish I could) so it's more of a luxury for me. I traveled to Thailand two years ago and all I ate there was Pad See Ew. I am always on the hunt for the best places in the states. Kao Thai passes my test with flying colors.
