He took what seemed like 15 seconds to look at our AC and told us without hesitation that we needed a new unit. He had disconnected everything and just left it like that. He also told us the freon was almost impossible to get for an AC unit that old (17 years). I asked him if they financed new units. He said no, but we take credit cards. He charged us $120 for that little piece of information and his quick diagnosis. So I called another company for a second opinion. They came out the very next day. The tech had to spend extra time reconnecting everything before he could even assess the problem. Well, long story short - we DID NOT need a new AC unit. And the freon was NOT difficult to get. The guy had it right there in his truck. He found a leak in the valve stems and replaced those. Then he refilled the freon which was low, and boom - he had our AC back up and running. I feel sorry for the people who might believe the first person that comes along and end up spending $10,000 or more for new AC. Always get a second or third opinion! read more

This is one of the worst AC repair guys I have ever encountered. Please stay away. He seriously showed up looking like a homeless person. So unprofessional, disheveled and just plain dirty. Reluctantly I let him into my condo to look at my unit and then after 30 min looking at my ac he went outside and said he couldn't climb a ladder to get on my roof because it was too dangerous. And said he should've never taken the call..Who does that as an ac guy?? read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Talked to Karl about coming out to service an AC unit on my condo. Spent a half an hour in the condo replaced the back up battery in the thermostat because he said that would make it better ( it's a backup battery and has both to do with normal function, also it wasn't bad)and then REFUSED to get on the roof to look at the AC unit. Been using Meyer for over 20 years first servicing limping old units which came on the house a couple of years later doing 2 complete installs ( I called the local distributor who confirmed Meyer as a top choice to install their equipment) servicing emergency calls and services answered and then replacing the old equipment after 18 years Karl and his crew are smart, organized and fairly priced he takes care of recycling old unit, hiring crane etc. 1 call does it all I could not recommend higher read more

Our A/C repairman retired earlier this year, and we got his recommendation for Karl Meyer Heating & A/C. Our 17 year-old heat pump had a leaky coil requiring the freon to be recharged twice per year. The freon that it uses is no longer made, and what is available is very expensive. Our roof needed replacement after a severe August monsoon storm blew shingles off of our roof. We hired Karl Meyer to replace our heat pump with a new one and had it coordinated with the roof replacement on the same day. The result is a much quieter and more efficient system. The roofing company was very pleased with Karl Meyer's work and how well they coordinated with the roofing job. We are extremely pleased with the work that Karl Meyer did. read more

Our Air Conditioning went out. We called another company, and they told us we probably had a leak in our condenser coil. They said it would cost around $2000 to locate and fix the problem. They recommended a new unit due to the age of our current one. They said they could recharge the refrigerant and it might make it through the summer. We decided to go that route. They charged us nearly $500 for that service and it lasted only a day. They quoted us nearly $10,000 for a new A/C. Then we called Karl Meyer. He came right away. After he looked at the unit, he told us he found a leak right away. He said he could fix it for around $350 but it would be better to get a new unit. We also had an evaporative cooler, and he told us whoever put it in did a really bad job of it, and the way the rigged the air ducts most likely cut the effenceny of both units and lessed the lifetime of the A/C unit and recommended a new A/C, and just getting rid of the swamp cooler altogether. I expected a high estimate due to the duct work needed, but was very pleasently surprised his estimate came in around $5,000, all duct work included. And no charge for refilling the refrigerant. We agreed. When the refrigerant went out again, he came and fixed it at no charge!! It lasted until the new unit arrived. It took about a week due to a shortage of units, but he installed it right away. It took longer than expected because of the duct work, but was still pretty quick. All in all, working with Karl Meyer's was a pleasure and saved us a lot of money. If the need ever arises where we need work again, Karl Meyer's will be the first call we make. read more

Karl is far more knowledgeable of heating and cooling issues and what can be done to fix. In our case, it was fixing the flex ducting in the attic and adding a return to a room which had none. The result now is much better airflow and cooling to that part of the house. Additionally, he made it clear a high SEER unit, which I had been leaning toward, was not a good idea. read more

We had our ac go out during winter. Normally I wouldn't mind, but we have little ones. Day and night ac, responded and fixed it for about ten minutes, before not was working again. Karl came same day and fixed the problem. His coworker installed our nest thermostat also as part of his price. Doesn't try to up sell you like the bigger companies. Price was very reasonable. Karl came out in person. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable. He was multitasking during the visit (i.e. calls, texts, etc.). He is busy and clearly works hard. He is all about the work-just the kind of contractor I like. I was told by my previous company (ACE) that I needed a whole new unit to replace my 8 1/2 year old unit which was installed by them and has had many problems (see my review of them on their site!). Karl has been out to my home several times for my AC. He initially fixed my older unit but when I needed to replace my 17 year old unit, there was no doubt who I would call. Nobody knows AC like Karl, as he's been fixing AC since the age of 13 - learned and worked with his dad. Karl is extremely knowledgeable, professional and dependable. Karl's dad, and then Karl and team have been nursing my older HVAC system for me for almost 20 years. A/C went out over the weekend (compressor) and Karl was able to get materials ordered on Monday and a complete new system (A/C + gas furnace) installed on Tuesday. The lady answering the phone for Karl Meyer did not know if they did sales of air conditioners. This seems to be a general problem within this market. As I shop for new air-conditioners, it is extremely challenging to find somebody who appears complicated on the phone. read more
