Our cake from Karla was great! We don't have photos of the mini cupcakes to post, but we went with a 2-tiered cake for cutting and a large order of mini cupcakes for the guests. Flavors chosen were pistachio and red velvet. Cake was moist even as a leftover. The other awesome thing was that she delivered to SJ all the way from Hayward, and came early! Her rates are affordable too! There are a lot of reviews about communication being an issue, but I didn't have much of an issue. I've actually experienced worse communication from other vendors that are way more established. She was kind, patient, collaborative, and easy to communicate with (mostly via text and with quick responses). She's extremely attentive to details and provided a lot of great options whenever we were unsure about what we wanted. Another bonus, she also has great recommendations for other Bay Area wedding vendors if you're in need! Wedding planning during a pandemic put a damper on a lot of things, such as cake tasting, but Karla came through and provided us with a take home cake tasting! I don't mind paying more for high quality cake, however it seemed that Karla didn't put much work on the cake I ordered perhaps Bc she has larger orders she needed to fulfill. The minion characters were just plastic toys that can be purchased anywhere, they were not even attached to the top of the cake. So we had to put the toys on top ourselves. Honestly, this did not worth the $120 we paid for!! I got married two weeks ago and Karla made the wedding cake as well as everything on the dessert table. I was (and still am) delighted to see how it all turned out. She did exactly as we discussed, i.e., the colors (purple, silver and a dash of yellow), design (square quilted purple wedding cake with white pearls, gumpaste calla lilies and silver ribbon border), flavors for the cake (red velvet and chocolate kahlua), cupcakes (red velvet and chocolate kahlua), cake pops (strawberry, vanilla, chocolate), and pretzel rods(chocolated-dipped). It was a spectacular sight and drew attention from the guests. Not only did it look so good, it all tasted great! In addition, Karla is so easy to work with. To top it all, her rates are very reasonable considering the quality of work she delivers. We have found and spoken to other excellent bakers, too, but they were charging exorbitant fees. Karla worked within our budget, and for that, we are truly grateful. My husband and I have no qualms highly recommending Karla for those who may be in need of someone with skill and talent like hers. I found Karla's Kakes on IG and was looking forward to booking her for our wedding. Her work is amazing! I contacted her via e-mail on three separate occasions to inquire about her services. The last e-mail I sent was in October and I have yet to hear back from her. I realize that she is busy with orders and life in general, so in November I contacted her a FOURTH time. This time, I commented on an IG post of hers to follow up on my e-mails. Surprisingly, she promptly replied on IG asking for my e-mail address and said she would get back to me. She never did email me. It is poor customer service that she does not respond to e-mail inquiries. I saw other posts on IG in which people were following up because they didn't hear back from her (similar to the other Yelp reviewer). She has lost several potential clients. :( read more

I really dislike writing bad reviews for small businesses but what I dislike more is a business with bad business practices. Their websites says to text or email I did both with no response. I then saw an Instagram post and commented how I reached out with no response, she quickly responded to say send the text again. WELL I did and again no response. This company has done business for my cousin who was the one who recommended them, when I called and told her she said she would try and text and see if she gets a response VOILA she did and was told they are booked up. I LOVE Karla! She was able to accommodate my pretty short notice order and killed it! Very reasonably priced (I was quoted almost double elsewhere) and her cake was delicious! We got vanilla cake with Oreo filling and chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. Super flavorful and I loved the dense, almost chewy texture of the ganache. Very disappointed with the cake I ordered...doesn't look anything like what I requested. Today is her party and I'm out looking for a new cake unfortunately..she wasn't even trying to help me find a solution..I felt like I was just left hanging after trying to figure out myself how to fix it somehow. The top was just a mess, it looked like a kid did the cake and it was just a bad mixture of colors. And the colors weren't even the vibrant rainbow colors like I asked. Initially she was very hard to reach and hard to communicate with, I get it your extremely busy. I was patient with her and I trusted her because her cakes really did look good, but once I picked up the cake I was beyond upset. I didn't even want to be that person and rock the boat, but to be left hanging after I asked if we can fix the drip or if I should spray paint it with food coloring. I then thought I shouldn't be the one paying for more money trying to "fix" the cake. Now I'm left with a hideous cake and literally am out scouting for a new cake. The top part wasn't even smoothed out and had a random white spot. Completely no effort and I felt like she knew it came out bad but just really didn't care. I just can't with how it came out. Not only was it difficult to get in touch with her but on the day of my son's 1st bday party she delivered a completely different cake than what I had ordered. Her excuse was she was unable to find the correct pan to make the cake I had ordered. Not once did she think of contacting me to let me know. she refunded me my money however, that didn't fix my cake situation. I had based all of my son's party decorations around the colors of the cake she single handily ruined my party plans! Karla is awesome! I recently contacted her to make a cake and some treats for my sisters babyshower and she did an amazing job. I sent her a couple pictures and she firgured it out for me. Im a very annoying customer I feel so she coped great! A few things you have to know is that she is a very busy gal you have to get her months and months in advance. I have read the previous reviews that she doesn't respond and and as much as I hate to say it, she is very tough to get a hold of. I emailed her, text her and commented on a post on her Instagram and waited awhile to hear back so don't expect to get an immediate response unfortunately. I am still giving her 5 stars because her work was so beautiful and I added to the order last minute chocolate covered pretzels and oreos and she was happy to do it which is not something any other business would allow.
