We made reservations at Karline's last night for about 5:45 PM. They were almost full! We got there a little early but got our seat pretty quick. The server was great but then the food arrived! Wow it was soooo good! I had Oso Bucco and it was the best I've ever had. My husband ordered the Snapper Piccata and it was good also. This place is absolutely wonderful. The ambiance is nice. Perfect for a little romantic night out with your significant other, or just to drop in on your own. They have a good selection of wines that can cater to anyones budget or preference. We got a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon for a very good price(bottles are half off when you go on Wednesday )The star of the show is definitely the food though! Everything we ordered was delicious . We started with the bruschetta as well as the clams for our appetizer. The bruschetta had fresh tomatoes and a nice kick of sweetness from the balsamic glaze. The butter sauce that the clams came in was good enough to drink . I recommend having some extra bread to dip into it I got the chicken Marsala as my main dish and let's just say I didn't need a Togo box! Chicken was juicy and the sauce was super flavorful. Wow! On 9/22/18, my wife and I were returning to Southern California from Portland, Oregon, and were in the middle of a grueling 18-hour drive when we decided to give ourselves a well-deserved break for dinner. When we found ourselves 30 minutes north of Redding, we trusted YELP to suggest KARLINE'S even though it was not on the town's main thoroughfare. At first, we were concerned because we ended up in a commercial area, and while we were parking, we could see only what looked like a bar area. Did we commit some god-awful mistake by daring to drive a mile from the freeway off-ramp? Not in the slightest! As we walked in past the bar area, we encountered the cooking area, where the staff was busy preparing meals. The fact that the food preparation area could be seen by all was an indicator to me that we would have nothing to worry about. We were not disappointed. We were blessed to be served by Katie, who was fantastic. She managed to combine being gracious, good-humored and deferential. Katie was also exceedingly patient. I had been driving for 8 hours, so it took her some time to explain the subtle but important difference between the "Prime Rib" special and a similar item on the standard menu. The Prime Rib was delicious. My wife chose the Chicken Marsala, and it was probably the best Chicken Marsala I ever tasted! The experience at KARLINE'S was among the top 2 or 3 experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. The food was mouthwateringly delicious, the people were great, and the ambience was just right. On our way out of the restaurant, we even had the opportunity to tell the chef how much we had loved his food, and he seemed to derive genuine pleasure at having heard how much we had enjoyed his creations. If you end up driving on I-5, and you think your best bet is a restaurant in Sacramento, think again. We went here last night to celebrate my birthday and it was EXCELLENT. First off, the salad that preceded the main course was top notch. It had several types leafy ingredients along with blue cheese crumbles for a tasty start. We both opted for their 14 oz. Rib-Eye steak, which was cooked to perfection and tender with great flavor. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were very flavorful and just the right amount. Amazing! Visited for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. What a great choice?!? All the servers were delightful. The prices are very reasonable for the quality... and the quality is excellent! The only time we had better bruschetta was in Italy. I couldn't resist the jambalaya... which was on the deliciously spicy side. Sue had shrimps Scampi which she described as "scrumtulicious" with perfectly prepared veggies and a beautiful sauce. This review is LONG overdue. I don't know that I have ever wished for more stars, but if they had them, I would give them to Karline's. Yelp should add that - a Bonus Star that can be given to exemplary establishments. I am from out of town but had my rehearsal dinner at Karline's a couple months back. We used the back private room for our event with roughly 30 people. It's been too long now, but I wish I could remember the names of the ladies who served us. They were PHENOMENAL. I think they were the managers. Anyway, the food was fantastic. Get the Beet Salad! I wanted to eat it all night. It is the best beet salad I've ever had. The rest of the food was amazing too (salmon, lasagna, chicken marsala with polenta, and fettucini alfredo) - no matter what people ordered, they loved it. We also had a signature cocktail which was delicious. But beyond the food, the service was impeccable. The ladies serving us were so friendly, they were extremely efficient, and they bent over backward to help anyone who needed anything. Over our entire wedding weekend, Karline's is one of the most memorable and favorable places/moments for me. And that's saying something because our wedding was perfect! We went to Karline's tonight for my birthday dinner. My husband had the fried lasagna, as recommended by another reviewer, and I had the chicken marsala. My husband loved the lasagna. The chicken marsala was good, but the sauce was not as strongly flavored as I prefer. The service was good and everyone was very pleasant. In regard to Bruce G.'s comment from the 7th of this month, I checked the recommended tips at the bottom of our bill and the recommended amounts were correct. My wife and I recently moved back to Redding after 10 years and have been disappointed with the dinner selections in town. Mostly overpriced garbage food, we just finally ate at karlines and we're so happy with the food! Finally a dinner spot we can go to when we want a night out and some amazing food. Ordered the calamari for an appetizer the rib eye and the goat cheese ravioli . Ravioli tasted like it was from a frozen bag. Medium rare steak came out blood rare cold. This restaurant was highly recommended to us, so we decided to celebrate two birthdays there. First the upside, very clean restaurant, the servers were attentive( to a point) and the salad was fresh and the dressing excellent. The entree's regretfully were only so-so. I ordered Pasta Primavera, it looked and smelled wonderful, but was so bland I had to salt it several times (I usually never use the salt shaker). It was also very dry. We also ordered two filets and both steaks were tough and the mashed potatoes served with the steaks were lumpy (they were not smashed potatoes). What a disappointment. When the waitress asked how our meal was we told her the truth and she said she would tell the chef. No one returned to our table, no apology, no pat on the back, nothing. The pork belly was good, a bit salty so I appreciated the sweet mango salsa to balance it out. the star of the show was the ribeye. this is my favorite cut of steak and its difficult to impress me but it was cooked perfectly. very flavorful, tender, juicy. After they opened during Covid they had all of the tables spread out and they were all wearing so we felt comfortable eating there. Their staff is so friendly too! My wife and I decided to try Karline's Restaurant Friday, Oct. 11, 2019. We both had the fish and chips, with a nice wine. The wine was good, the fish was not. The fish had a "strong" taste to it that was not palatable. While it had not quite turned the corner, it was waiting for the light to change. Neither of us could eat the fish. We tried each of the three pieces we were served, with the same results. It was just not good, fresh fish. We ate our soup and salad, and the dipping bread, and were pleased with both. No, we did not complain. We did not want to embarrass ourselves in front of a packed restaurant where tables are close enough that a private conversation with a server could not be held. The server, Jeremy, was delightful. It is truly too bad that food in a highly thought of restaurant such as this cannot be served at it's peak flavor. We shall never return. read more

I have been to Karline's Restaurant twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner for a special occasion. For lunch I had the pastrami sandwich. It was good, not the best pastrami sandwich in town but worth it. During lunch it was busy but the service in the bar area was very attentive. For dinner, I was there for a birthday. Two of us ordered the halibut special with creamy pesto linguini and asparagus. It was delicious. Two other people ordered the prime rib special with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. They were very happy with their meals. The last person ordered the lasagna. It was huge and looked amazing. She was very happy with her order as well. The service was outstanding. Very happy with food. I wanted a nice pasta dish and chose the lasagna. Exactly what I wanted. Husband ordered the scampi and was surprised. The pasta was al dente and the shrimp was tender. Both cooked to perfection. Update: it seems that Karline's is set up for Reservations only. No more walk-ins? We walked in at 5:30 on a Saturday evening and told they won't have a table ready for an hour and a half. Should I note that almost all the tables were empty? We feel so fortunate to have found Karline's on our journey home after a long day of travel. We had a wonderful experience. We chose a high top in the bar and even those tables have tablecloths. We stopped in here for dinner on Saturday evening. We hadn't been here in awhile. Karline's did not let us down. It's one of the top 3 nice places to eat in Redding. My husband enjoyed a delicious rib-eye steak, mashed potatoes, and veggies. I ordered an entree size roasted beet salad and I ordered the extra chicken to go with it. Both meals were excellent. Our server was very personable and stopped by a couple times to make sure everything was superb. It's a nice place, comfortable....not too noisy even when full of satisfied customers.
