CHILL LITTLE SPOT, BUT I DO MEAN LITTLE! Decided to stop by here on my walk to the Lavender a few nights ago. Grabbed a few beers and relaxed for a bit. I was not disappointed. Let's review! QUALITY/SELECTION: 5/5 I only tried the beer, so no food review this time. Good drafts! The selection is a bit limited, especially considering that UOB next door has an appallingly large selection of drafts. What I really enjoyed was that many beers on tap at Karma were high quality, very uncommon drafts. While uncommon does not always equal tasty, everything that I had here was delicious. AMBIENCE: 4/5 I really wish that I could give a 5 in this category. The inside is very, very relaxed. Dim lighting, cool decor, nice patrons. It is just sooooooo small. I know that this used to be a yogurt restaurant, but Karma needs to expand. Considering how satisfied most customers are after their initial visit, it is only a matter of time before the popularity overwhelms the square footage. It is so small that the lavatory is outside around the corner. Fortunately, I was able to grab the last table and play some Chess, which they graciously provide at no extra charge. PRICE: 3/5 Some drinks aren't too bad, but many of them can get pricey. If you are as poor as I am then you will probably leave a bit disappointed that you could not try more of the exotic brews. SERVICE: 5/5 The bartenders are nice. I always enjoy that. If you can hold a conversation while still serving other patrons then you deserve the tips that you get. You will get served rather quickly. Late night when I went I was required to order at the bar. Not sure if they have servers walking around during the day. However, not a big deal. I came with a group of friends on a recommendation yesterday. We were all very excited to try the espresso martini as that what was recommended. I ordered for the group to make it easier, so I ordered 10 martinis. The person who helped us was very rude and when we received our drinks, they were all in plastic cups instead of martini glasses. I love bars that also sell coffees and teas. The ambiance was quite cozy which I liked, but the drinks were a little to "out there" for me and the food was not that interesting (very limited menu, weird tasting dolmas). We came on a night where it wasn't very crowded which I enjoyed, but I don't think I would have liked it if too many people were crowding into such a small space. Staff was nice though. read more

Not sure what the inspiration behind the decor is, but it's dark and doesn't really make you want to hang out. The bar is gigantic (wide) and short (long). The whole seating area is very snug and they were burning scented candles, so if you're trying to figure out what your beer tastes like, it'll probably taste like scented candles. Their beer list is relatively small, though any place that has craft beer in Sacramento is doing a great thing. We asked how often they rotate their taps and they didn't really have an answer for us. This cute bar is very unassuming, with very eclectic and comfortable Decour. Owner Anthony is amazing to chat with and takes great pride in his establishment. I've had drinks here many times and am always very happy to be here and love the ambiance. Only beer wine and sangria but the beer and wine selections are incredible and chosen with care. Not a bad spot to bring a date or to sip on some good quality beer! The mood is very laid back; a very ambient setting with relaxing music playing in the background. I've only come here for drinks and not food so my experience is limited however I will say the owner is very nice and the service is pretty quick. Two gripes: price for quantity of beer is a little high and it takes them forever to run your card so the wait can be longer than expected if there's a line at the bar (and if you don't keep your tab open) Next time I'll try some food but I feel like this place would be best as a bar to start your night at or to end your night at. Karma Brew is a cute little spot to enjoy a drink and/or small bite, especially out on the patio when it is warm. I've dropped in to Karma Brew a couple times lately and very much enjoy the relaxed, open and eclectic atmosphere. They have an outside-inside thing going on with the decor, lots of old wood. Funky but comfy seating options inside were welcomed by larger and smaller groups. The bar works well for singles. Don't waste that prime patio, go out to watch all the people in the Fremont Park area. The open air is a great space to relax with a drink and a bite. I really didn't like their hard cider, very bad taste. They have a second option that I'll have to try, but people really like the sangria with fresh fruit made daily. The food was good, I had some bruschetta which was made with fresh ingredients. Only drawback was the smaller portions. Service was friendly, but slow. Want to go out but have a mellow vibe? Came here with my husband, both feeling a little peckish and parched on Saturday when it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner. We went ahead and seated ourselves outside on the patio where we could appreciate the weather and watch people's reactions to the parking tickets on their cars. Gotta watch those meters! We both ordered beers on tap, myself the Pranqster which I really enjoyed, him an IPA. The draughts are served in beautiful crystal (?) stemware that the owner Anthony said he likes to collect from local thrift shops. How whimsical. Others near us seemed to be loving the Sangria, I'll have to try it next time. We also ordered the Karma Sampler, which was beautiful and the perfect size for the temporary stomach satisfaction we were seeking: didn't spoil our dinner later AND prevented my hangry propensity to bite my husband's head off - everyone wins! But seriously, everything on the platter was finger-licking good. From others' pictures on here of the sampler, it looks like it always varies from what they have on hand. I like that. It's an intimate place with interesting music, in a good way. Our waitress was really nice and checked in on us often. When we were finished we went up to the bar to pay and instead got locked into a captivating conversation with Anthony - he definitely has a lot to do with the flavor of this place. Writing this review is a hard one for me because I absolutely love the atmosphere here! It's super chill to sit outside and have a couple drinks. The reason I'm not giving five stars is because the food was awful. They didn't have the entire menu so we had to settle for tapas which normally would be fine but I ordered mozzarella roasted potatoes and humus. There were two chunks of potatoes just reheated and probably store bought hummus with ritz crackers. Was really excited to try this place when my friend suggested it. Really liked the cozy atmosphere, dark and intimate and unique. They have a nice selection of beer and creative drink offers. Food was a little pricey and there were limited selection (some tapas, paninis). This place has good potential to be a favorite neighborhood handout. However, they need to work on their customer service. I ordered and paid for my drinks and soup. I watched as my friends slowly got their items brought to them, nothing for me, not even my drink. After 15 minutes, my friend went to go check on it for me and apparently they forgot my order. Oh well, that happens at crowded, loud bars. They brought out my drink but no word on the food. Went to check on my soup and they said they ran out and had to make a new batch, but it was still another 15 min wait. Everybody that comes here seems like they're on a first date, which is quite charming. This place... It's damn near perfect. I've just moved to Sacramento and this has quickly become my favorite spot (and my favorite, *cough* *cough* office for working remotely with a beer.) But this Eagles bullshit... we'll see. Up and coming gem of a bar/lounge Shady Lady was crowded at the time so we decided to try this place out and see what they had to offer. I liked the fact that it is a cozy little place with a small menu. Great beer and wine selection, didn't get to try the food but it looks like it would be good. The gelato and hot pie sounds like something I'd love to try in the near future. Ordered Mischief from the Bruery and Old Rasputin. Both delicious beers and some of my personal favorites but definitely nicer for a change to get them on tap. Sampled the OZV Zinfandel which was also quite good. But of course, this wasn't a wine sorta night. The staff working here is also excellent, personable people and very inviting. Definitely will come back here to try the rest of the beer and possibly that Gelato and Hot Pie! read more

A chill and quirky respite in Midtown. A small but well-crafted beer selection and a funky after hours Euro-club vibe stick out. Karma Brew is a hole in the wall bar, with its space usually saturated with psychedelic rock and roll and the conversations of the proprietor, who makes sure to strike up a conversation with many of his patrons. There's an outdoors area that seats about ten which is dog friendly. They serve a few small plates here and also have wine and various house mixed drinks (the " magic syrup" of peppermint and reduced apple cider vinegar goes great with the Cuvee des Jacobins). I haven't tried the food enough to comment on it, but the good beer selection and unique vibe are enough for me to recommend this place. All in all, a cool little neighborhood bar that's worth the stop if you're in the area. read more

There a few establishments in Midtown that have a Tier-1 patio. Karma is in that upper echelon with its superb view of Fremont Park. Unfortunately that's all the nice things I can say about the place. Any respectful beer service will include the size of pours - especially if they fall below the usual 16oz one comes to expect. Karma's standard draft; however, comes in an 8oz mug (I've measured), but they have the audacity to charge between $7 and $8 for it: that clocks in at about $15 for a standard pint. In none of the menus/signage does it denote the pour size. Outrageous. Beers are cheaper at Golden1. It's not just passive; I believe they are actively deceiving people. After seeing how small the draft pour was, I asked for a bottled beer (shocking: overpriced as well) and a glass to come with it. Instead of given an 8oz mug, I was given a larger glass so the whole beer would fit and their tiny pours would seemingly remain unnoticed. I'll never come here again and continue to tell people to avoid it due to such an awful business practice. Karma Brew? More like Karma Screw. read more

I always see this place when I am driving thru downtown because they have a nice outside seating. I came here with my friend Zaheem and his in-laws for the first time. It is a very different place than what I am use to. The bars I usually go to have much younger crowd, but this place was much more mature. I tried so many different types of beers that night so I can not really critique each beer. It is a very small place inside but it reminds you of a tiny Irish pub. The decor gives me a mid-evil feel, but at the same time they have all sorts of beers. I will definitely come back with my friends that like trying new beers. You must experience this awesome little bar if you ever make it downtown. The decor is loaded with authentic items from many places in Europe. Since I am Swiss, what got me was the cuckoo clock and wooden plate that my grandmother has on her wall. Other items bring that German and English vibe to the place as well. My favourite place to have a relaxing drink. Small and cozy, lots of choice. If I'm ever in the mood for something from back home, they seem to have a good selection of British ales. Imports are on the pricey side though. Never tried the food here but others seem to enjoy it. It's mostly nibbles. Plenty of places to eat around the area though. One thing I didn't enjoy is the mulled wine (seasonal). Would be nice to have the mulling spices sieved out so that chunks don't float around in the goblet like an exotic bloody soup :P read more

My girlfriend and I just moved to midtown between thanksgiving and Christmas, and this was one of the first "hidden gems" we happened to stumble upon. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the drinks are delicious, and it's the perfect location to unwind, relax, or end a great night with friends. This gem was a stop on our Sac brew bike tour. The moment I walked in the door it instantly became my favorite stop! While small, this cozy bar packs a punch with hundreds of tchotchkes hanging on the walls and stuffed behind the bar. Not to mention the $5 sangria is SO GOOD. Tastes like Christmas in a glass with its earthy spices not usually found in your typical run of the mill sangria. I've gone back just for this drink and the yummy variety of fruits they put in it. Super inexpensive bar with friendly staff. Nice but small patio attached. I've only been during the day for drinks when it's practically empty, so I can't really speak to the nightlife vibe or food.
