While visiting New Paltz, my husband and I decided to visit this deli one day for lunch. My husband ordered the veggie burger and I got the kale salad. I really loved my salad. It was a massaged kale salad with avocado dressing, topped with cashews and raisins. However, I wish it was larger and that there was visible avocado in it, rather than only the dressing. I actually asked the waiter, "Where's the avocado?" I just really wanted some avocado. My husband did not say much about his burger, but he enjoyed it ok. He was kind of in a bad mood because he had to go to the bathroom but the deli doesn't have one available to customers. The burger came on toasted bread with a side of coleslaw, which my husband didn't eat. Although I enjoyed my food, I am giving this restaurant a 3/5 because: 1. I think my salad should have been bigger for the price. 2. Seating is limited, which is fine, but all the vacant tables were dirty with previous diners food particles, which is disgusting. 3. It took an exceptionally long time for us to get our food. 4. Although I told my husband ahead of time that there was no bathroom, he complained to me the whole time about it. I do think that it would be nice to have at least one small bathroom available to customers, especially to wash their hands. However, this is not a huge issue if you prepare ahead of time, like I did. It's just something customers should be aware about before visiting. As a Celiac, I appreciated that there are a wide variety of gluten-free options available. They also have a deli and you can make your own bowl/lunch for a really good price. Overall, I'd totally recommend this place if you are taking the food to go and it is already prepared and available in the deli case. read more

Sad to give this place 3 stars. It's all vegan! Call ahead, for example there was a party for staff today so they closed at 3. Their hours are limiting, they usually close at 5. I called ahead about our order because we were in a rush, and they were kind enough to make our large ish order within 20 minutes. The veggie burger was good, but it doesn't come with avocado, and was a bit small. The burritos were too mushy and we bought 3 - I think the quinoa doesn't hold up well, and I think black beans would probably hold up better. There is salsa on the top which I suppose is okay if you are eating it immediately, but a bit annoying if you are ordering to go, would have preferred it to be on the side. The salad on the side of the burrito is not flavorful. The smoothies are good. Our favorite item was the kalecado, it had a good amount of flavor. If I came back, I would order sandwiches over the burritos. Probably wouldn't recommend the burritos at this place. We went to Lola's the day before and they had an all vegan menu that we loved. read more

Good laudy this place is pricey. Wraps/sandwiches come with a drop of brown rice and beans, looks really minimal. For the high price & small portion, it's not worth it. Holy Macaroni this food is scrumptious!!! I'm seeing in some of the other reviews that people are complaining about the price. Shut Up. Its's all organic stuff so you pay for what you get. Organic food is expensive. McDonald's is pretty cheap. You can probably feed a family of 4 for under $10 but have fun with the diarrhea and overwhelming sadness that you feel afterwards. I'd rather suck on a $10 kale juice than cry my way through a 99 cent cheeseburger. I don't believe the kale juice is actually $10. I had the hummus wrap with some add ons. We stopped in here on our way to Menla and it was a really nice treat after being stuck in a van for 3 hours. It was nice to see Main St. and also to stretch our legs a bit. We had pre-made orders of fresh-squeezed juices since our group was so large. I had a perfect mix which included apple, kale, spinach, and cucumber. For $6, it was a bit pricey, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. On our way back from Menla, we also stopped in here. After fasting for 48 hours, we were all very famished. I ordered 4 BBQ tempeh strips and it cost me $10. Whoa, now that is pretty hefty sum, but it was well worth it. Some of the best tempeh I have eaten! Ordered vegetarian BLT and Reuben sandwiches and a smoothie. Food took about 15 minutes to prepare, not terrible. Delicious food, great bread, and the Fakin'Bacon on the BLT was killer! Side tiny but good kale salad/slaw also good. Only suggestion is a bit less mayo and dressings on everything. We will return! Came here for breakfast and this place exceeded my expectations! Being a vegan, I was overwhelmed by all the options for once! I settled on the Climber's plate and it was by far one of the best vegan dishes I've ever had. I was tempted to get something from the deli part (I was specifically eyeing those sweet potato biscuits). I like how this place offers a variety of vegetarian food that is not just limited to salads or fruits. They offer plenty of savory meals which is sometimes hard to come by. I was truly disappointed upon my latest visit to Karma. I live in N Jersey and we made a family day trip and decided New Paltz was the place to go. We have many good memories of this area and Karma always stood out. We went and were surprised to see the menu without any prices listed. When I asked about the price of a salad, the girl working the counter looked annoyed and said it was about $12-$14. "about" is not a good answer. I then asked for a printed menu in hopes that had pricing and no luck, they didn't have any. So we stayed staring at the written items on the menu board but truly were upset that we would have to keep on asking the cost of items. We simply left and ate at Mudd Puddle not too far away. While physicists may continue to debate whether time travel is possible, I can say that I experienced it first hand at lunch today at Karma Road. The wood floors, tiny tables and chairs, uber-healthy vegetarian food, earnest, t-shirted young people and air of social consciousness took me right back to my student days in the seventies. The food is true to its school. Black bean soup is earthy with unadorned grains, celery and potatoes. The tofu sandwich is on dense, seeded bread with a somewhat sweet pesto accompanied by plain side of short-grain brown rice, quinoa and pinto beans. Fresh (and somewhat loudly) made juices such as spinach, kale, cucumber and apple lend the drinker to sip and clear the mind. For me and other diners like the older, professorial fellow sitting near me today, Karma Road nostalgically recalls better, younger days. For twenty-somethings, it gives insight into the cultural, attitudinal and gastronomic experiences of their parents and (gack) grandparents. I do not tolerate dairy well and it's comforting to know I can eat anything here. The counter person was nice and the area was clean/well-kept. My only gripe was the avocado in the sandwich could have used more seasoning; it did not feel like a "explosion" of avocado. I cannot believe I have not written a review for Karma Road yet! This is the place that you walk into and you want to try something different but you always end up getting the same thing because it's just THAT good!! I have been coming here for years. It is my go-to place for fresh, healing juice (Column 1, add beet and ginger), amazing kalecado salads, and super messy and delicious avocado explosions (with everything). I also love that there is the option to choose items from the menu or from the deli case, which always has super tasty selections, that I hardly ever order because I always get the same things. Oh, and while you're waiting to decide if you will be a creature of habit or go outside the norm, they give you a sample of super tasty soup just to make it even harder to decide what you want. AND they have a soup card, like a coffee card but SOUP! Then there are like 20 smoothies on their board to choose from. You can get lost in that menu. Thank goodness for that soup sample to hold me over until I make my decision. And then I order my column 1 juice, and an avocado explosion. Whenever we head up north I can't wait to stop at Karma Road. I have gone from vegetarian to vegan in the past year so this place is such a treat. Since we were headed to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, we needed to stock up with some noms. The food here is so simple and nourishing; so flavorful and fresh! I got the baked tofu sandwich which came on a hearty grainy toasted bread with pesto and roasted peppers...awesome. Also got a pick 3 combo from the deli case- chunky tofu salad-roasted cauliflower-cole slaw. My daughter got the peanut butter smoothie and a brown rice crispy bar studded with chocolate chips and cashews. I was stocking up a bit for our trip and also got 2 berry choc chip muffins. Think hearty and filling with lots of chips! I cook and bake a lot and very well I'm told, so I can really appreciate how Karma Road seasons and prepares each individual dish/side/soup etc with just the right seasoning to make it awesome.
