Although I love New Paltz, I usually skip it because of the traffic and parking. BUT, Karma Road has a parking lot! Not a big one, but still. Their selections change based on the season in which the veggies and fruits are most ripe. But nonetheless, they always have unique pairings to offer to their customers. Most of their menu is gluten-free which is good to know especially if you have specific dietary needs. They also have a decent variety of salads, sandwiches, soups and desserts. Most people take-out rather than dine-in. Their food leaves you feeling full, content and clean. No "I just ate a huge serving of french fries" feeling is what I'm trying to get at. It's very nice that Karma Road offers organic, healthy food but I just wish that the food were a little more exciting and fun. Staff was very friendly and the mushroom barley soup was yummy. Unfortunately everything else I tried was not. I tasted a few sandwiches since the people I came with all got different things and everything was exceedingly bland. And the small side of rice and beans that came with each meal was not only bland but cold. I'd prefer no side at all to hard bits of chilly rice and slimy ice cold beans. If I were going to visit in warmer weather I'd be interested to try the selection of juices, smoothies and salads. But I tend to only visit this area in December so I'm not sure I'll be seeing you again, Karma Road. I understand that the restroom not being public is not their fault but I want everyone reading this to know that this is the case so they can plan accordingly. When I went there on a sunny afternoon two months ago, I was so enticed by the ingredient offerings for the juice that I needed a moment to collect my thoughts! I settles on a classic- carrot apple ginger juice. It was so pumpkin-y orange and tangy with the ginger, my body practically thanked me for drinking it! As a main, my love and I split a gorgeously green kale salad that had avocado mash, raisins, cashews and carrot shreds dancing in it. Again, i felt a rush of vitaminification to my cells! This place is very good, one of the best vegan places ive ever been to. The affordabowl is the thing i always get because they have cool sides. I always get the sweet potato biscuits and the juices sometimes which are very healthy and low in calories. The only reason why I am not giving this review a 5th star is because of a sanitary issue when I have been there. There was a guy preparing my food I think he was new. When he was prepping my food, he was not exactly wearing the plastic glove like the rest of the workers. So, here was my experience: I went here with my sister's family who are meat-loving, animal-hating, vegetable-hating, self-serving, hunter-befriending members of society. I asked the friendly staff what someone of that stature would care for from their variety of meals that fall into the category of what they would consider "yucky". The staff was so helpful and chose something called the Reuben and they were right! Even my sister's husband liked it. My nephew, who has sworn against vegetables, liked the tofu love sandwich. I had the kalecado salad, which was yummy, but not as yummy as the one I make ;) I was ready to give this place 5 stars until after I finished and asked where the bathroom was, only to be shocked and disappointed at the response that I could go to the store across the street. The food here is orgasmic. I was gluten free at the time and there were many natural alternatives to choose from. So many of the food options are healthy and nutritious yet amazingly filling and delicious. The workers are knowledgeable about how things are made and really care about customer service. Everyone seems upbeat and friendly. It's an amazing place to go with a friend, eat on the patio outiside, or just hang out by yourself and chat with the employees. I've done all three at separate times. Things can get a bit pricey because everything is all natural, made from scratch, and very good for you. I really am not the best when remembering menu options but if you are looking for healthy and delicious tasting local fare look no further than Karma Road.. My wife and me where out for a Sunday drive (Sunday Drivers) and we find it a rare pleasure when we can dine at a Vegan/Vegetarian cafe like Karma Road. The cafe was clean and the staff was super friendly. I ordered the Tempeh Ruben and a bowl of Gazpacho to share with my wife. Our order was brought to the table in record time and the Ruben was made to perfection. This is a great little place that's replaced the old Cookies n' Cream. It's bright and welcoming, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I stopped in here the other day to do some work and grab a bite and I was pleasantly surprised. My pizza on a three-grain, gluten-free "crust" with vegan cheese, spinach and spicy tomato sauce was surprisingly delicious and flavorful. Sometimes dishes like this can be bland and unappetizing, but this was actually really good. My coffee was also quite tasty. I love that they list the ingredients for those of us following special diets. Everything is vegetarian or vegan, and there are many wheat-free and gluten-free items to choose from. Most of the stuff is also organic, which is very cool. They also have free wireless as an added bonus. Have I mentioned how great the woman at the counter was? The selections here are all organic, vegan, and very tasty. Smoothies, salads, soups, sandwiches (raw pizza gets special kudos) are all quite good. The prices are not cheap, so don't be surprised when you get rung up and the total is a bit more than you expected. The staff is **incredibly** friendly and helpful. I would not to object to chains of this place sprouting up across the U.S. in place of Burger Kings. I suppose that would go against the point of this progressive, vegan, locally-owned cafe, but it would sure make me happy since I live 2 1/2 hours away from it. The decor is cheerful with bright colors, local art, animal photographs, and a friendly staff. The girl at the counter was very kind and helpful in pointing us toward or choices since everything looked great and we stood around open-mouthed for a good 5 minutes. Aside from an all vegan menu of delectable, fresh food, I opted to try a few items from the "deli case" (which can be mixed and matched - I got to try 3 different things for around $6 and it was entirely filling). If I lived in town, I could likely order my lunches from here as often as possible. Everthing was delicious and fresh, well seasoned with the true form of the food coming through (nothing grossly processed). The high rating of this place is completely justified. They're nice, clean, and they're doing everything right. You can even get a cup of organic coffee here, and it's not bad. My only caution: This place is totally vegetarian and vegan, which is fine, but some 'healthy eaters' are turning paleo these days, which means they do not eat grains. And there is hardly *anything* in this place that isn't made with, wrapped in, or sandwiched between grain. If you want some fresh local organic eggs, for instance, you can go across the street to the Mud Puddle, or head up the block to the Bistro. read more

Ah. Karma Road, Another one of New Paltz's little gems. What makes this one so special is the fact that it's completely vegan. While it pains my inner carnivore to admit this, it's also really flippin' delicious. 2 years out of college and I still make it a point to visit Karma Road for their shakes/smoothies/soups when I am in New Paltz. If you're craving something that's sweet, filling, but still light, I HIGHLY recommend the Chocolate in My Peanut Butter. It's my holy grail. I'm still trying to recreate the recipe at home and have been unsuccessful. I haven't had many of their food options but their soups are always a hit and their avocado smash sandwich was pretty damn good too. Giving those with allergies a head up: They pre-freeze their fruit mixes for some of their smoothies which, according to my waitress, makes smoothie modifications extremely difficult. This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Paltz, and I'm not even a vegetarian! The food is great and the people are so friendly. No "holier than thou" attitude that some vegan places give off. Some of the items can be pricey if you eat out frequently. But their "Afford-A-Bowl" is a great option, as well as getting a soup card. I am often busy with work and don't have time to cook. I ordered a Tempeh Bacon and Tofu Scramble breakfast sandwich with an Almond Cappuccino. Simply stated-- I was satisfied. This place keeps it simple and the delivery is on point. The menu doesn't boast anything overly exotic like kimchee mayonnaise or dilled pickle brine soup (I totally made that up)...But it has very well seasoned Tofu and Tempeh. I've gone to many a vegetarian place where they decide to rely on the surrounding or complimenting ingredients for taste. At Karma they know that the meat or pseudo-meat (in this case) of a sandwich or wrap should be the first announcement of taste and lingering delivery throughout. The Tempeh Bacon was thin, crispy, and tasted wood-smoked. Kinda' magical, actually. The bread wasn't too thick or hearty but not underplaying grain either, the vegannaise was lathered generously while not drowning out the fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The coffee didn't alarm me or impress me but as a foodie-- I do recommend you order your coffee black first, sip, then add as needed so that you don't risk misunderstanding the bean for the milk. ;) The staff was friendly, laid back, and conversational-- there was also some nice 80's New Wave tracks playing...which did make me feel like I may be in a movie...The Breakfast Club? ;) read more

Their soups are often wonderful, and the staff is wonderful about letting you have a sample so you know whether today's is right for you; be sure and get their terrific biscuit to go with it.
