SOOO slow!! We were there at a non-peak lunch time (3pm) and waited over 30 mins. Sandwiches were fine but not worth the wait.

Food is amazing, everything else...not so much LOVE this place for the food. Sandwiches are always delicious. I'm still making my rounds through their menu but everything I've had so far (Cuban, Banh mi, French dip, Melter...) all are winners. The only issue was the younger man who took my order one time. He just grabbed the cookies we order with his bare hands, completely pressing his whole palm of his hand on my cookies. I didn't end up eating it but I also didn't say anything at the time because he was not friendly. He also forgot to give me my drinks which we had to stand back in line for then seemed bothered by it. But it's fine, I get that these things happen I just know that I will continue to not dine back there and keep using a delivery service instead. read more

I have eaten at Karver three times and each time it is excellent! Today I had the cobb salad and I was so pleased that it had as much meat and cheese as it did lettuce. So often when I get a salad there are some toppings, but when all that's gone it's just a big bowl of lettuce. Not the case here. The service is excellent. The people who work there are very friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered an iced tea and someone came over when they saw I was almost done and offered to get me more. This is an unusual in a restaurant where people wait on you, but this is a restaurant where people come up to the counter to order. I usually sit outside which is very nice but now that the weather is getting colder, I will need to move inside. It's very pleasant inside and out. Is it weird to call a lunch stop a religious experience? No? Ok good - because that is how I would categorize the amazing sandwiches I just enjoyed at Karver with my mom and sister. We got the Royale, the Reuben, and the Melter Skelter, and then shared a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The toasted bread was crispy but still soft, like it's not gonna tear up the roof of your mouth. And the horseradish goat cheese was SO good, just enough of a mix to take the sting away from the horseradish. The other sandwiches were amazing too - we all shared bites. Wish I had taken pics! Aside from that, the kind of industrial farm decor, and super friendly staff was just the icing on the cake. We sang our praises to the owner, who then brought us out a complimentary ooey gooey and DELICIOUS homemade cookie. A weird experience! I came in to order for the first time. My kids have a regular 2x a week engagement near by, and then straight to basketball practice. I've been trying out the local restaurant spots to get food in their bellies before heading off to practice on days I'm not able to bring something with us. Today Karver. First the young person with a mop of dark hair at the register put down my question of "do you grill your P&J" with a bemused roll of the eyes, and No. It's a grilled sandwich shop, so why not ask? They do toast the bread. I asked for "kids" grilled cheese instead. I saw the register said 3x Grilled cheese, and it was $3 more than the kids grilled cheese I asked for. I said "oh it was the kids grilled cheese I wanted". FYI, there is never a time I don't say please, thank you and always with a genuine smile...It's been ingrained in me to be friendly and chatty since birth. With another scoff and an eye roll the young mop top said "this is our kids grilled cheese, FOR YOU". I then had to explain multiple times that I am getting the sandwich for my kid. That didn't work so then explained how my son doesn't like 3 cheeses, but would the 1x cheese kids grilled cheese. The employee obviously didn't believe I was getting the sandwich for my kid, as I had to keep explaining in detail where my kid is, and it's for him when I pick him up, etc. I continued to get more scoffs, more attitude, and eventually they gave in, but of course with a look and further eye roll and scoff towards the other employee on the grill. I paid and had also ordered a Topo Chico. The Topo Chico was taken out of the fridge but never handed to me. After I few minutes I smiled, walked back over to the register, reaching over the register and said I'll just grab this (our drink). As I was walking away the young mop top employee said in a smirky way, "uh, would you like a bottle opener for that". He popped off the bottle top, pointing it out towards me. The top popped and landed just past me, a good 3 feet from the register. The employee didn't acknowledge the top flying across the room by picking it up, and walked away. I picked up the top and continued to wait an uncomfortable 10 minutes. After I grabbed my ready sandwich and said thanks, the two employees were talking under their breath as I walked away. It was just uncomfortable. My kiddos report the sandwich was great, and the chips too! However, I'm in a weird predicament. I'd love to go back for the sandwich, but not to be questioned and told I'm lying to the point I'm denied my order without having to explain my itinerary for the afternoon, even still with harassment. GREAT food. The turkey apple was frickin delicious. But the SERVICE was what made me stop and come write a review. Both guys seemed the genuinely take a lot of pride in offering great service. Even though it's not a full service restaurant, they still walked around and asked if customers wanted refills or needed a box. They checked on us after we got our orders and even refilled my husband's complimentary water! I was very impressed with the incredible service! They also have an unusually extensive offering of local beer and canned wine at great prices...the Maker canned wines from featured winemakers are my favorite. First off love the sandwiches here. Don't love my experience ordering through Yelp/not in person. No customization was available and did not know until after I received the sandwich. There are options to add but none to take away. I wrote in the notes to take off mayo and it was not done for the Italian sandwich and my husband would not touch it so a $20 sandwich was wasted. Sort of a hole in the wall type location. Definitely worth a stop if you're craving a sandwich. The staff seemed friendly but we were sort of caught off guard since the tables still needed cleaning despite it being pretty empty at the time we were there. Food was really good and the portions are satisfying. Selection of most of your classic sandwiches so you'll probably find something you vibe with. My wife is partial to a Reuben which she said was amazing and from what I could see it was a thicc sandwich. I on the other hand favor a Cuban. Not as good as I expected. I stopped by with my wife while we were in the neighborhood. The Cubano sandwich caught my eye and we ordered lunch. In short and IMO the food was described well and looked good on the plate. tasting it, not so much. First, the Cubano was a big disappointment. It was a pulled pork (or bad carnitas) sandwich with a little ham but it bore no resemblance to a real Torta Cubana: Cubano is ALWAYS made with beef milanesa steak. And the sandwich was dry - no sauce whatsoever. When I asked for salsa they gave me a teaspoon of green Tabasco. And there was an unpleasant aftertaste; sort of earthy and slightly bitter. Second, my wife ordered a sandwich called the Melter. It was OK, made on bread resembling Texas Toast ) toasted soft and mushy bread). The problem was the sandwich had very little flavor. The chicken was in little 1/2" unseasoned chunks. It could have been tofu. The tomato was quite unripe. Not bad, just not good. We ordered sides: Apple Slaw and German Potato Salad. The slaw could have been quite good were it not dry and it needed some acid like vinegar or lemon juice. As it was it was just a cup of julienned apple and cabbage(?). The German Potato Salad was a major disappointment. There are two things that make German-style potato salad: it's finished in vinegar and does not contain mayonnaise, and it's served warm or at lease room temperature. This was red potato salad. Mayonnaise and served ice cold. Sorry but no cigar. I understand that every restaurant wants to do their own take on every food item. But you can't call a Yugo a Subaru and expect to get away with it. Be honest with your food naming and descriptions. Three stars and I think I'm being generous. read more

Forget the great sandwich debate as jimmy johns, firehouse, and subway can't even hold a candle to this place! I love being able to find more local spots and Karver fits that bill. They had a mixture of both cold and hot sandwiches that all come with chips, you can add some extra sides as well if you feel so inclined. I ended up ordering the melter skelter (otherwise known as a Chicken Bacon Ranch) and boy was it good. It came out piping hot, perfectly toasted, and just flavor that was phenomenal. The service was also fantastic. We went during lunch but their didn't seem to be a huge rush. The guys that were working were very efficient at getting the food out. They also did follow up to make sure everything about our meal was good. Overall I will definitely be back at this place as there are many more sandwiches that I would like to try! read more

Heading home after running an errand in east Portland we decided to try Karver after a friend recently called my attention to it. Being a beautiful day, the front doors were open to the street which of course is the trend. The space is shallow but wide. Also sparkling clean. All complemented by outside street-seating creating a very welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted by Sean, a very friendly and informative gentleman. After some back and forth we placed our order. My wife had the Smoked Turkey & Bacon sandwich with a side of mac & cheese. She loved every bite although a tad disappointed at no crispy top on the mac & cheese. I opted for the sandwich special of the day and embarrassingly I can't tell you what it consisted of. That said, it was thick, chock full of meat, and just delicious. I also had a bowl of corn and bacon chowder. It was perfection. Customers do place their orders at the counter but things are happily and quickly delivered to your table. It is not requisite but common courtesy in this type of environment to clear one's dishes as well. No worries. As always I was delighted to find they take Apple Pay - SO EASY!! I would not rule out driving out of your way to eat at Karver. It's very good and you are unlikely to be disappointed. I know I wasn't. Five well deserved stars for a great experience. read more

I have been watching the reviews for this place and their tempting sandwiches on yelp all this past week...a week when I have been working ten hour days and vowed to cook at home. They are trying to spend more time together. We ordered: Cubano - mustardy, melty cheese, yum. The pork part was extra tender and smoky. Albacore tuna melt- delicious.The relish stuff is bomb. It is open faced, we advise you eat it with a fork. Jerk chicken sandwich , add avocado- tasty but teen expected it to be spicier. The teen has a heat addiction. House pickle mix - really good. Fortunately a little spicy which made teen happy. Mexican street corn- savory and tasty. Not on the cob which made it an easy to eat side. Everything was great and tasted really fresh. The flavor combinations were all thoughtful and balanced. Seating is limited. The people are so nice. This was a very good experience. So much to try. We will have to go back. Teen already has it planned. Mom, I want avocado toast with bacon next time. And a milkshake! The problem with having interest in food is your kids tend to as well....which is good and bad. I was scrolling GH for something for dinner last night and was dying for a great Reuben. Extremely difficult to find a decent one in Aloha, until now! I called in our order and they were incredibly friendly and fast! I stopped in 15 minutes later and was immediately greeted and handed my food. My husband got the Godfather, which he loved. He rarely gets artichokes in any form because I despise them, so he was happy to have them on a sandwich. My daughter enjoyed the grilled cheese, she loved that it was big and gooey. Ok. Firstly we have a sandwich, which is probably what this place is known for and which probably makes it a 5 star restaurant. That said, we took advantage, too of the sandwiches they said could be turned into a salad. Husband got the Muffuletta salad, the taste was spot on, but needed more lettuce and it was drowning in mayo (see the photo). Mine was the piggy special (BBQ pork and slaw) that was quite tasty, then again, I wanted like 4 times more lettuce as the ratio of toppings to lettuce was off... Friends got the Cobb with abundant toppings and the wedge salad was off as they ran out of ice berg lettuce, so no wedge. Overall, nice outdoor seating, friendly staff! read more

My partner and I recently moved from SE Portland to the Cedar Hills area. We've ordered Karver roughly 15-20 times for lunch and it never disappoints! Consistent quality every time. We really love the Cuban and the Turkey sandwich but have tried almost all of them. I love having some hot yellow peppers with my Cuban at home!
