    Terrible Cheesesteak

The new owners should be ashamed of themselves. Not only are they highly unprofessional examples including: yelling at workers in front of guests, telling guests "if you don't like it don't come" etc... The food itself has also been changed for the worst. I did not take a picture, but my cheesesteak was mostly roll. I most definitely will take one out of their book and not return.

    Mouse

This hurts writing such a bad review because this has always been one of my favorites and a "go to" at the last minute for dinner. I had been going here for over 40 years. So let's get to what has happened the last couple visits. Went a few months ago with the hubby. horrible service and we always had excellent service. (new staff. not someone we ever had before). Food was bland and not as good as it had been before. Son and I went recently and once again, horrible. It was dinner time and clearly not busy as it had been in the past. Service was good and we were attended to quickly. Son's soup had so much cheese on it that it wasn't enjoyable & it wasn't french onion! I ordered the stuffed mushrooms as I always do and they were not bad flavor but super watery. Son had crab cake sandwhich, on a kaiser roll. Crab cake looked like a frozen patty from a box store. Every crab cake samdwhich i have ever ordered was flaky and fresh and took up more than the roll. this barely fit! no lettuce, tomato, nothing. not even a pickle on a plate! we ordered kasdons fries to share. now, they have always been a splurge for me because they are amazing! Not anymore! the brown gravy was tan and just didn't pack that rich gravy flavor they had before. Top this experience off, we were purely entertained by the mouse running around under a table diagonal from ours. We watched this tiny little thing, run around eating some crumbs that were all over the floor then run back to its hiding spot when someone walked near the table. Eventually no servers came by and we watched the crumb filled mouse run towards the bar. I guess hoping to get a drink from whatever liquids/liquor that was on the floor. We paid and practically ran out of there. I hate to say it since this restaurant has been a staple in my life for years. As hard as it was to get over the new decor, I accepted the change and hoped the younger generations of Ltown would bring their families here. Don't. For measure and proof, see that little mouse? pic is blurry but i promise, I want to write a great review and I just can't. Two stars is for the waitress who was pretty good but looked sad to be working there.

Good food, good service, great prices. Try their French dip. The French onion soup is great too.

Took a chance on the Puss n Boots Tavern this Saturday and stumbled upon a surprisingly quiet, well…read morelit and clean bar. I have always overlooked this place as a dive bar but I was genuinely surprised. As the windows allow natural light to fill the large open dining area that surrounded the bar. They appear to have a catering or events room as well as another separate dining area in addition to the main dining/bar area. While their menu is very limited to all the standard bar fare and spirits. It was served fresh. The smash burger topped with bacon jam tasted like it was fresh off a charcoal grill (in a good way) the buffalo chicken cheesesteak had a good amount of heat and the meat and cheese ratios were on point . The Buffalo bites were equally tasty and I have a strong feeling the blue cheese dip was homemade. They do offer weekly events like bingo, karaoke, quizzo. I think they may have live music events as well. Our server was friendly and kept the libations coming. All in all a big surprise for a place I have overlooked so many times. Pop in grab a drink and check them out.

Last time I was a kid all I remember was a meatball sandwich. That and the sawdust on a shuffle board table. This time, I saw the game is still there along with the bar and kitchen. A second bar area was added on. We walked through to another large dining area addition where we sat at one of many large tables. I ordered the ham and cabbage special and a side of fried pickles, and went back to the original bar for an Irish beverage. Everything was tasty. Thankfully, nobody pinched me for not wearing green. Hopefully it isn't another 40 years before my next visit!

Five Four Bar & Grill has a large U shaped bar, stage for live bands, pool tables, booth seating,…read moretable seating and an area to have a catered event in a private room. They can hold 20-500 people for private events according to their website. The inside is dark and could use a bit of a refresh, but I wouldn't say it's close to the level of dive. It's certainly on the larger side compared to most bars in the area. The staff has always been nice, but service can get slow when the crowd size grows. Just the nature of things. Food wise the menu has a typical mix of pub grub - apps, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and several entrees. A friend was eating their jumbo Buffalo Shrimp off the starter menu and raved about them. I stuck to a Cheesesteak which was average but a deal at $9.50 -- the chopped steak was decent, cheese was good just needed a bit more. Hot peppers gave it some kick and the long roll was fresh. Their beer menu has around a dozen beers on tap. They dabble in more mainstream big beer/craft beer like your Goose Island IPA's/Lagunitas IPA, but do have a decent show of locals like Yards, Victory, Troegs and Weyerbacher. Bourbon wise I had a Knob Creek neat which was average price wise. The pour was on the generous side. Each time I've been here the crowds have been friendly and having a good time. The band we listened to was great and the sound was crisp. Five Four is a family friendly grill during the day and a fun place for adults later at night. Thanks guys!

Overflowing the bun. Cooked to perfection crispy and juicy. The "pretzel garlic knots" wear VERY good however they were just garlic knots with no pretzel color or flavor. Very good garlic knots and a banging cheese sauce but not pretzel like we expected. We came on a trivia night and the place filled up by the time we were ready to go. What impressed me most was how honest and customer-focused Nicole was during the planning. The day before the event, she reviewed my food order and actually told me I had ordered too much because she knew how much their trays would feed. She helped me reduce the order rather than trying to sell me more. That's something you don't see very often, and her recommendation was exactly right--we had plenty of food. And the food was excellent. Great pizza, chicken parm, pasta, and some awesome pierogis that were a great recommendation. And surprisingly, the broccoli may have been the best I've ever had. The servers the night of our event were wonderful--very attentive, friendly, and always available. The staff made everything easy and flexible, which was especially appreciated for a meaningful family gathering. The price was also extremely reasonable for hosting a 30-person event. Cosmos is clearly a great neighborhood spot for lunch, dinner, or drinks, but don't overlook them if you're looking for a place to host a private or family event. Reasonable pricing, honest planning, great food, and genuinely great people. Thank you to Liz, Nicole, and the entire Cosmos team for helping make a very special evening such a success.
