I was really excited to try Kassi because I love Elephante and had heard it was the same owners. I went on wed December 10th at around 8 pm, and I honestly left shocked by the staff. Our waiter was the only kind and helpful person we encountered the entire night. Everyone else from valet to reception to the hostess was some of the rudest and most unwelcoming customer service I have ever experienced. The behavior across the board was so off putting that it completely overshadowed the night. It felt like everyone hated being there and was annoyed by guests even asking simple questions. No one offered help, no warmth, especially the hostess who couldn't even bother to say hello. As an LA native this experience was honestly surprising because it's the opposite of what you expect from a restaurant with this kind of reputation. The food was good and the design of the restaurant is beautiful, but this level of customer service makes it really hard to enjoy the space. They need to focus on hiring better staff or setting higher standards because I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone until that changes. read more

The food service and ambience here were excellent. I came here with some coworkers for lunch. They are from out of town and I don't get to see them very often so it was a special occasion. I sent them 4 options for lunch and they chose this place mostly for the beautiful views. However, the food was yummy and we weren't disappointed. Everything was fresh, light yet filling. One of my coworkers is gluten-free and there were plenty of options for her. The steak kebab and honey chicken kebab was delicious but I particularly enjoy the crispy French fries, hummus and flatbread. The views were outstanding and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice happy hour and relaxing lunch. $15 valet so I would recommend finding parking somewhere else if you don't want to pay that price. read more

This review is from a complimentary Yelp elite event, all my thoughts are my genuine thoughts. Overall, super great ambiance, portions are smaller as a tapas kind of vibe, super great for a friends hang out/ happy hour. THIS IS GREAT FOR INSTAGRAM PICTURES!!! Entrance: Kassi is right off the Venice boardwalk inside Hotel Erwin. Super easy to find once you know where you're going -- just head to the front of the hotel and check in with the lady outside (tell her it's for Kassi). Then you take the elevator up to the 6th floor. If you're walking from the boardwalk (like I did), look up for the tan umbrellas on top of the building so you know you're in the right spot, then loop around to the front to enter. Ambiance: As soon as you step out of the elevator, you're hit with this gorgeous view of Venice Beach. Total photo-op spot. I checked in with the hostesses and only waited a couple minutes before getting seated. My table was off to the side and had an amazing view of the ocean, boardwalk, and the skatepark. One tip I'm glad I read from another Yelper: WEAR SUNSCREEN. It's all outdoors and depending on the time of day, you're definitely in the sun. Perfect vibe but you'll fry without protection. Dress code is pretty flexible, but dress up if you can. I saw everything from people in beach cover-ups and wet hair to girls in full-on dinner dresses with glam makeup. Overall, about 70% of people looked like they were dressed for Instagram -- at minimum, nice jeans and a cute top will fit in, but I really recommend a nice dress/outfit. I've had good experiences here in the past, but this past Saturday was such an uncomfortable and kind of embarrassing experience taking my family here while they were visiting from out of town. We had a reservation and I'll never deny that the views of Venice are unbeatable, but without exaggerating our service and server were neglectful at best, rude at worst. No one came to take our drink order for a good 20 minutes. Not a huge deal, serving is hard and we assumed they were just understaffed. Our party of six ordered five cocktails and one soda for my brother who doesn't drink, and we put in our appetizers-- just fries, a flatbread and a couple skewers-- at the same time because it had taken so long to order in the first place. Our cocktails didn't arrive for at least another 20 minutes... but with no soda for my brother. We waited for it to arrive to cheers, but after a while we all began awkwardly sipping on our drinks so they didn't get watery and warm while we waited for someone (anyone) to come back and check on us so we could nudge them about the soda. The day was scorching hot and we had already blown through the water at our table. Eventually a food runner dropped off one flatbread (which was tiny and didn't come with any dip or sauce, but that's beside the point and probably on us for not noticing it on the menu. Just a note for when you order!) We asked him to check on the soda. No joke, 10 minutes later, still no soda, no server. Our waitress finally comes by about an hour into our reservation. We say "hey, we're still waiting on his soda" and she very curtly just goes "I know. It's coming." as if we were impatient and unreasonable for expecting the EASIEST part of our order to be delivered within 40 minutes. No apology or even a half-assed, "Oops I'll go check on that ASAP." By the time she brought the soda, (still no fries or skewers in sight), we asked for the check and for her to just cancel any of the food that hadn't been made yet. She said "okay" and turned to get the card reader. Still no apology or explanation. She never addressed the wait or the fact that we were disappointed enough to close out early, cancel our order and go somewhere else. When she came back with the card reader I straight up asked if the kitchen was backed up, understaffed or if they were having technical difficulties or ANYTHING to explain the pretty terrible experience and she just said, "umm noooo the food just comes out as its ready." Stilllll never acknowledged for apologized for the wait or inconvenience. So we paid, tipped, and left to go somewhere else. Skewers finally came out while we were leaving, so we told them not to set them down and to give it to kitchen staff or another table bc we weren't staying any longer. Granted, this was all after the Venice World Cup Fan Fest, but at 2pm Kassi wasn't packed, tables weren't filled, and the bar didn't look swamped. Prob wouldn't be writing this if the server hadn't been so unbelievably unfazed and unconcerned, but her attitude was really disappointing and after hyping Kassi up to my family that was visiting, the entire experience was kind of baffling. read more

Was staying at Hotel Erwin so we decided to watch the sunset on their new rooftop bar Kassi! Be sure to make reservations or else you'll only be able to stand in the bar area. I had requested in the notes for a sunset side table but was sat on the opposite side, luckily they were able to find me a new table. If you don't have a lounge table the seating is kind of tight. We ordered 4 drinks, lamb meatballs, and fried zucchini. Food was solid but the drinks were small and didn't have much alcohol for being $20 each. Overall it's definitely a place you come for the vibes, they have good music playing and the view is amazing. Grab some pizza downstairs at Pizza Girl after! read more

No cutlery & napkins until after our food arrived. They didn't stop by the table to see if we needed anything after the food arrived. They graciously brought 2 small sips of wine for my friend to choose between, upon making her selection, they brought her the wrong glass. No one came by to light the heat lamp or bring the blankets they promised (we went and found our own). Overall, it felt like there were inexperienced or careless people in the kitchen. YUM!!! Kassi is my new favorite restaurant I absolutely loved the food, service, and views. I'm from Santa Monica so I'm pretty particular with westside fun. But Kassi superceded my expectations! It's on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin in Venice. First off, I could bring my dog which is always a plus. Rico loved the restaurant too! Especially that they give you blankets because it can get chilly being on the beach I loved the Harissa Honey Chicken Skewers, Watermelon Salad, and Tzazki with Flatbread. The food was impressive! You can really taste the quality. I recommend getting a bunch of the dishes and sharing with friends or on a date. I drank the Phony Negroni which was delicious Normally, mocktails can taste too sweet or just taste like juice. This version of the Negroni tasted very similar to the real one which was fun! I would highly recommend checking out this place - especially at sunset. You overlook the iconic skateboard park in Venice. This place is getting popular so I would make a reservation. This restaurant enjoys a considerable head start thanks to its prime location and stunning ocean views. Unfortunately, much of that advantage is squandered by inconsistent service and basic oversights. To start with essentials: the restroom was an absolute mess, and none of the four or five stalls had toilet paper. I understand that reservation requests made through OpenTable are not guarantees. That said, a competent host would at least acknowledge the request at check-in and offer a brief apology if it can't be accommodated. Instead, we were asked to wait off to the side for an additional 15 minutes before being addressed. When we were finally seated, the host--a man with short salt-and-pepper hair and a mustache--was openly rude, scolding me for our party being two instead of three. My mom was ill. This, too, could have been addressed when we checked in a quarter of an hour earlier. His commentary that "everyone wants the end seats with the ocean view" and encouragement to "stay positive" came off as dismissive rather than professional. Not the tone you want to set at the start of a dining experience. Simply put: a horrible host. Once seated, we waited yet another 15 minutes before a server acknowledged us. When asked about water, we were informed there was no filtration system--it came straight from the tap. Bottled water, please. Anticipating further delays, we placed our entire order at once. Cocktails (ok), greek salad, flatbread, hummus, tzatziki (very good) and two salmon skewers... they forgot one of the orders then brought the second salmon skewers out raw and took it back and had to redo that. The reason I continue to return here is obvious: the view is exceptional, and the food is genuinely good. But service remains a persistent weak point. We were celebrating my niece's birthday, nothing was going to ruin that! and while the setting delivered, the hospitality did not. With even modest improvements in service and attention to detail, this place could truly live up to its potential. read more

So now I have to drive down the street to look for parking which had a domino effect on my reservations for the day. Luckily the hostess was courteous (and a heck of a lot friendlier than the valet) and kindly pushed my reservation back an hour. When we returned, we were seated and attended promptly. The rooftop views were 10/10, the DJ/music were good vibes, and the food was tasty. I would love to return but not sure I would given the unreliable valet situation. My friend and I came here around 3pm yesterday just to grab drinks. The place was not busy at all, and since it's a rooftop, I asked if the heater could be turned on. The manager did turn it on, and we even had a lighthearted moment about it. After the heater was on, I switched seats to sit closer to it and accidentally spilled my drink. These things happen. My friend immediately asked if they could make me another drink and said he was happy to pay for it. This is where the experience went downhill. The manager (Australian accent, unfortunately didn't get his name) made a huge deal out of it and was extremely rude. He even pointed out that I "only had ice left," which was ridiculous considering I was soaked in my drink and had to go to the bathroom to clean myself up. The bartenders, on the other hand, were lovely and had no issue remaking the drinks. What made it worse was that no one ever came to clean the floor where the drink was spilled. The rest of the staff was sweet and professional, but the manager's attitude completely ruined the experience. Looking for something different and fun to do for lunch, my wife and I recently found out that Kassi opened in Venice Beach and we decided to go for a late lunch. That was a good decision! Kassi is the rooftop restaurant for the Edwin Hotel. You have to take the elevator up (and they check your ID too). Once you get up there, the setting is amazing. There is a bar area and 2 small zones with tabletop for 2. The main dining area are these lovely comfy lounges and chairs with a low large central table where plates can be put. You will be leaning over to dine and make sure you have a large napkin to cover your legs. We got lucky and got a lounge area with an ocean view. It was insane! It was a bit windy but they hand out blankets as needed. I still can't get past the amazing 360 deg view. Kassi has an extensive drink menu and we had some non-alcoholic spritz which were great! The menu is not that extensive but it is great for sharing plates. We had the Hand Pulled Flatbread (amazing), the Harassment Honey Chicken (great with the flatbread), the Heirloom Tomato Salad (also great), the French "Fries" (also great and with lemon aoli dip) and the Spanokopita (okay, our least fav). Service was nice/friendly though know that the food comes out randomly. It worked for us. They do have umbrellas up there but be aware that on sunny days you won't always be in the shade. They also have wind blocks but it you are up there is. The early evening, bring a jacket. Overall, we would definitely go back again. (And the pretty flowers that they gave the moms on Mother's Day were a thoughtful touch.) We will definitely be back. Our faves were the AVOCADO TOAST, POACHED EGGS, WATERMELON SALAD, HAND PULLED FLAT BREAD, TZATZIKI, WHIPPED AVOCADO, ORA KING SALMON, SPANAKOPITA QUESADILLA, and FRIED ZUCCHINI CHIPS. We also loved that the music wasn't too loud. Maybe it was just their daytime ambience, but the music was at the perfect volume that we didn't have to shout over. The only negative were the 2 little tables with the lounge seating. The tables are really not big enough for a full meal - especially when they serve mostly shared small plates. There's not enough room for your own plate, cocktails, and the food. We were balancing plates on our laps. Add another table and it would be much more comfortable. read more

I'm being generous with two stars only because the location and view were so stunning. The hostess when we first arrived was also lovely. However, it was pandemonium on the street level to get to the elevators and no clear message about where we were supposed to line up to get to the restaurant. Even though we had a reservation, the table wasn't ready for us when we arrived and we were seated at least 30 minutes after the reservation time. The food and drink were mediocre at best and the service was spotty. The drinks were expensive but didn't live up to the price. $5 for one piece of flatbread should be embarrassing. There was nothing special about the bread. We ordered several of the small plates and a couple were so salty we had to send them back. The other plates were fine but not spectacular. The staff didn't really know anything about the food (it feels as if they haven't actually tasted it so couldn't even speak to what the ingredients were, etc) and then they kept forgetting to bring us things. It took forever to get the water we asked for when we first sat down. We had to remind them to bring things we had ordered a while back. The consensus of my party is that none of us will likely return. Too bad, because that view really is awesome. read more
