They have a nice buffet which usually has tandoori chicken and other yummy staples. They also have a mango desert in an ice cream dispenser which tastes a lot like a frozen mango lassi. The lunch buffet is also reasonably priced; I think I left at $13 after tip. read more

i would really say 3.5 stars but am bumping up because our appetizer was among the foods i would want to eat in heaven, were heaven a place where all your gastronomical wishes came true. the place is charmingly located near pike's place market and was a brief walk from our hotel, so ms. kim and i set out with good cheer, and upon entering kastoori grill, we were delighted at the pungent aromas wafting around. service was not good, which is why i really want to go to 3.5. we were seated promptly, and our water glasses were filled nonstop, but other than that, i would say the service was not good. yes, the place is busy, but it was nigh on impossible to make eye contact with any of the staff hustling by, no one ever checked in on how our food was, and this was indeed a problem, because even though i made a point of asking about dairy in the ordering process, it turned out there was dairy 2 of the dishes we ordered. granted, i asked about dairy in the appetizer, and the dairy showed up in 2 other dishes, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to make the connection. if the girl doesn't want dairy in one appetizer, odds are she doesn't want it in her other one... back to the food. if you come, you simply MUST order the lasuni gobi--golden fried cauliflower florets in a sweet and sour garlic sauce. this was simply phenomenal. imagine your taste buds singing hallelujah as precious chunks of cauliflower dressed in this most flavorful, amazing sauce enter your gaping mouth. yes, that was what we experienced. BUT, along with these most precious cauliflower babies was a side of coleslaw. it took me over 5 minutes to get a staff member to confirm there was mayonnaise in it. my dinner, the mixed vegetable jal farezi, arrived with cubes of paneer in it. this was not mentioned on the menu, and again, it took almost 5 minutes of me trying to get someone's attention to verify that this was the only dairy in the dish. i'm not super picky, so i just made sure all the paneer was plucked out and given to ms. kim. when i finally did taste my dish, it was indeed tasty and appropriately spice. i would give it a 4. the garlic naan arrived some 10 minutes after our dinner; the garlic was suspiciously yellow. again, i tried in vain for a good 10 minutes to flag down a waiter to ask if the garlic naan was prepared with butter. turns out it was. ms. kim had a few bites and said t was too puffy and not chewy the way naan should be. as far as ms. kim's lamb vindaloo, which she has consumed at ample indian institutions over the years. she felt the preparation was classic; the lamb was well prepared and the dish had sufficient spice. we waited an excruciatingly long time for our bill as well. read more

Food: generally good. Decently spiced, naan was excellent. Drink: I found the chai to be a little weak, it had less than I am accustomed to. It also came out extremely hot, making it impossible to drink for about 5 minutes Service: this is where I have mixed feelings. The staff was extremely friendly, just not attentive in the least. My naan came out significantly after my food. My chai mug sat empty for quite a time, they filled it very quickly once I asked. My water glass got filled after I finished my meal, even though I asked. Ambiance: this is a great location. The interior is a bit sparse though. The bones are hard to work with as it's dark and kind of low. Infrastructure is dated as well. It's a very lively restaurant as the open kitchen shows the hustling kitchen staff. Bottom line: I would come back if nearby. Service isn't that critical for me and the food was good. read more

It's rare that you find an ethnic buffet that delivers. When you do, it's an absolute win! They always have chicken tikka masala, pakoura, and tandoori chicken. Other dishes tend to rotate a bit. Great place to bring peeps who are hesitant about Indian food so they can try out a few things to find what they like. And if they don't like any of it, check for a pulse. read more

This Indian restaurant opened up in the same place that was formerly 94 Stewart. The owners and employees are very friendly and attentive and the food is always fresh. I highly recommend the $10 lunch buffet as a great value in the Pike Place Market area. Not too spicy but very flavorful and balanced. Good dessert too. A+! read more

The smell of the place when you walk in is intoxicating. They serve traditional Indian, not BIR. Plenty of black and green cardamoms. I got the Chicken Vindaloo and was asked for my heat preference on a 1-5 scale. I told my waiter 5 as I have a high tolerance for capsaicin. He confirmed with a warning. I went for the lunch buffet. Food was completely average Indian. Walked in and was promptly seated and given water. I noticed all the employees were Oriental (Japanese I think). I didn't see a single Indian worker. There were 3 guests who were Indian, a couple of strange looking, I mean "very individualistic in appearance" folks, and some normal looking people (abnormal in Seattle?). A decent-sized lunch crowd. I have to agree with other comments regarding the flavor of the masala sauce. Either they buy it from Trader Joes, or the Japanese cook doesn't know how to make it. If you've had really good Indian food in the past, you will be disappointed here. If you bring a friend to whom you have waxed euphoric about how good Indian food is, they will probably nod and say yeah, it's good, while thinking to themselves that you're crazy. I would say unless you really are craving Indian and you're willing to accept mediocre, you should probably seek out another type restaurant. There are plenty of good ones here. read more

Went for the lunch buffet and was extremely disappointed. Firstly, not a very creative spread for vegetarians. And some of the dishes were just not edible - the beans were bad and the spices in the vegetable masala was not cooked well enough. The soup surprisingly was fantastic and so was the vegetable kurma. Not sure what the main menu tastes like but the buffet is ok if you like chicken!!!! Pretty tasteless actually. The chicken curry was mediocre and the tandoori chicken was ok. The vegetables concoction left a lot to be desired and all in all, an anti climax!! Coming from the UK, "Indian" food is the best!! This place looks ok from the outside but inside, the bright yellow walls remind me of an underground station toilet that hasn't been cleaned for weeks. If you get the buffet, don't expect to see a waiter until you're done! They don't even come over to see if there is anything else you need! Maybe a coat of paint and some friendly waiters is all they need but I'll not be in a hurry to come back. We ordered chowmein, momos, chicken vindaloo, garlic naan and onion naan. Chowmein doesn't come close to indo-Chinese version. Noodles were over cooked. Momos were okay but just tasted like dumplings. Chicken vindaloo curry tasted like nothing and looked like (not tasted like) tomato soup. Naan was too thick. The first time we went we were thrilled and excited about a place that had all you can eat Indian food...first for us. The food had flavor and was plenty of it. The second time about 6 months later it was a rerun, we were hoping for something new but no such luck. If you like consistency, this place won't disappoint, if you are looking for convenience from after a walk through Pike Market, you got it! Me new to WA, with my son visiting from CA drive into Seattle to have brunch. We parked and walked through downtown and were ready to give up on food as all the popular places like Lola's that were recommended had long wait times. As we turned a corner, there it was Kastoori Grill at Pikes Place. We both love S Asian cuisine. We'd been walking for 30-40 min & we were hungry! Best accident we ever had! They had a pretty extensive menu, and the food was excellent! Spicy potato salad was bomb...this could have been my entree, and veggie momos to start, then curry chicken with vegetables & rice. We observed quite a few people who looked to be from So Asia, we thought that to be good sign. It was warm the ac not operating well, but we were experiencing a heat wave and I have found these types of establishment often seem to lack in this area anyway. Makes it feel more authentic If you can't find a at least few things you like on this menu then you probably don't like S Asian food. read more

Beware of following your nose into this place. Service is slow. We ordered egg fried rice, and it did eventually arrive, but there was no egg. The cook whipped up the right dish after we caught the attention of the staff. There is only a single kind of tea, chai, which was quite bland. Excellent lunch buffet - owner is great, very friendly and focused on high quality food. He grinds fresh spices every morning to make sure his food is the freshest. We ate the other night at what was called "Seattle's Best Indian Restaurant" on Broadway near E John and were extremely disappointed. Kastoori is far better! read more

Very sweet and friendly staff. Caution on the rice. They have whole spices so if you take a bite it leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
