This was my first time visiting Kata Robata, and I left already looking forward to coming back. We ordered the following dishes: Texas Kobe Beef Skewer Grilled Octopus with Yuzukosho Vinaigrette Otoro Nigiri Foie Gras and Scallop Spicy Chopped Scallop Tropical Spicy Tuna Roll Texas Kobe Beef Yakiniku Don Sushi Platter, 10 pieces, with a Tuna Roll Everything was beautifully presented and the food tasted fresh and well prepared. There was a good variety across the menu, from the hot/cold items, to the sushi and sashimi, and etc. The Texas Kobe beef dishes were particularly enjoyable, and the foie gras and scallop was another standout. The grilled octopus was also nicely done, with the yuzukosho vinaigrette adding a good amount of acidity without overpowering the octopus. I, unfortunately, wasn't able to photograph the Texas Kobe Beef Yakiniku Don. Our server was on her game and immediately helped us mix everything together in the hot stone bowl before I could get a good picture. Not a bad problem to have. We were seated toward the back of the restaurant, which made for a quieter and more relaxed experience. It was easy to have a conversation without having to compete with the noise around us. While walking through the rest of the restaurant on the way out, I noticed that it was considerably louder in the main dining area which made it much harder to hear anyone you might speak with. I would recommend the back area if you're looking for a more relaxed meal. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. Our server was one of the highlights of the visit. She was friendly, attentive and informative without being overbearing. The service definitely added to the overall experience. Overall, I had a really enjoyable first visit to Kata Robata. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and offered enough variety that I left wanting to try more of the menu. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of what they have to offer.
Birthday lunch today and they gave us a great table. It's loud here. Casual ambiance. Pluses 1. Bento boxes are great we liked the fish and beef ones - we also upgraded to the crab roll instead of the chicken teriyaki 2. Eel roll is good 3. Seaweed salad had many types Areas to improve 1. Ladies bathroom door is very heavy 2. We got the birthday acknowledgment today but we didn't get anything. Usually most places give the birthday person something. Good place to eat, $106 with tax and tip for two, no alcohol. Highly recommended!
First time here for a friend's birthday. They had reservations for a private big table in the back for 10 people. We had 1 waiter and a few runners. The place was very busy but service was great! Quick and thorough. I had several sake bombs but that didn't cloud my judgement! The food was amazing here. Definitely worth the slightly higher price than your average sushi place. There isn't a bad choice on the menu. We will be back for their lunch specials as they have event better pricing and dishes you can only get then.
FOOD POISONING I hate to give Kata a bad review because I actually enjoy eating here. However, I currently have food poisoning after eating here yesterday. 30 minutes after coming back from lunch break, I had diarrhea. I thought maybe it was just a bad day, but I am still suffering from this. I have to use the toilet many times a day, and I feel so nauseous. If it keeps getting worse, I am might have to consider going to urgent care. My boss ordered a salad that had the same veggies that came with the pan seared duck breast about a week ago, and also had diarrhea. He pieced two and two together. We believe that it's the veggies. I am worried that what I have is the parasite that's going around right now, cyclosporiasis. On another note, I wanted to try their specials. The lamb gyozas were okay. I didn't really like the skin of the gyoza, seemed a bit oily. I was excited to try the pan seared duck breast, but I found it to be a bit overcooked than what I usually have at other restaurants. A bit dry, kinda chewy, but the blueberry sauce was good. The salad that came on the side was good, but I believe that's what gave me diarrhea.
Kata Robata used to be one of my favorite restaurants before I moved away from Houston. After recently moving back, I chose it for my birthday lunch with friend because I had such fond memories of dining there. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and had to wait outside in Houston's summer heat 93'F. While there are a few benches, there is very little shade, and guests are not allowed to wait inside. When the restaurant opened, there was no clear system for seating guests. Even though I was first in line, several people rushed in ahead of me, making the process feel disorganized. The biggest issue involved a $300 gift card that my friend had received years ago. She simply asked the staff to check the balance. When the server returned, he told us the manager had cut the card in half and that the entire balance had to be used during that visit. What bothered me was the lack of communication. We were never informed of the policy before the card was invalidated. If that is the restaurant's policy, it should be explained clearly beforehand. As two ladies having lunch, spending $300 was difficult, so we ended up ordering far more food than we normally would. The sashimi was fresh but cut thinly than what I've had at comparable restaurants. The hamachi kama, chirashi, and lobster mac and cheese were good. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was the biggest disappointment. For $10, it consisted of three very small cubes and felt overpriced. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly and professional, which helped salvage the experience. However, between the uncomfortable wait outside, the chaotic seating process, and the poor handling of the gift card, this visit did not live up to my previous experiences. While I have many good memories of Kata Robata, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.
Had a fantastic evening at Kata Robata! Our server, Gabby, was excellent and attentive throughout the evening. My favorite was definitely the Kobe Beef Skewers - I could have just eaten those all night long! Deliciousness in every bite. I'm not a fan of raw fish, so while my family enjoyed a handful of crudo dishes and nigiri, I got to enjoy the Longhorn Roll. This roll was solid, nothing mindblowing. We all enjoyed the Spicy Miso Ramen! Rich, flavorful broth that rivals some of my top ramen spots. I forget exactly what dessert we ordered, it may have been their chocolate bread pudding, but it was so good that I was literally scraping the plate! There's a lot of menu options so I'd love to come back and try some more things
Finally made it out here for dinner. The ambiance feels much nicer inside than you would expect from the outside. Our waitress made so many great recommendations. The crudo and skewers were the group favorites.
My family had dinner here last weekend. We had an early dinner so parking was plentiful. The interior is clean but non-descript. The service was very good. I was a bit disappointed with the food given the reviews I had read, especially given that the sushi pricing is very expensive. I would give the food an overall 3.5/5 stars. We had: Octopus Crudo (3/5) - It's thinly sliced octopus from a large tentacle so pretty large circular discs. The "issue" is that the citrus flavors are so overpowering you can't tell at all that you're eating octopus. I will say the flavors weren't bad, just overpowering for the octopus. Ceviche - My daughter ordered this and said it was very good; I did not try. Sushi Sampler (10 pieces / $58) as well as a few add-ons including chu-toro, o-toro and ikura - (3.5/5) - Overall the sushi was okay to pretty good. Nothing outstanding imo. I thought the rice lacked flavor, was textually pretty hard. The fish was pretty good. Spicy Soy Ramen (4/5) - Probably the best dish of the night. Not my favorite ramen in Houston but this was a good dish. Overall, again a bit disappointed given the price point but if you put price aside, okay to pretty good food.
Me and a friend stopped by for a quick lunch. Immediately upon being seated, we were greeted by Tai our server. He was very welcoming and assertive. Throughout our interactions he was very vocal about his opinions of the menu and suggestions but could be heard having some disagreements with other tables and staff which was a bit concerning. Our food came out very quickly and was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I have heard since visiting they are more known for other dishes besides sushi so will definitely try these next time.
Nut allergy friendly - The lunch ramen is still safe! As is most of the menu I believe. Parking: Actually quite difficult in the small strip mall lot. Gets very busy during lunch and you might have to wait for someone to come out. Yep, they're all here for Kata. Time to Entree: 7 Minutes We arrived at 1PM on a Friday afternoon without a reservation and got quoted a 20 minute wait for 2 people. That ended up being around 9 minutes wait. Service for the lunch tonkatsu ramen was quick and efficient. The ramen is just as great as I remember. The pork tonkatsu is flame seared and has an excellent charred flavor, very different than normal tonkatsu pork but still melts in your mouth. The broth is flavorful and ginger-forward, but not too salty to where it's overpowering. Great portions of noodles that makes for a satisfying lunch. Kata's ramen still bats for the top 5 in Houston in my book. Always happy to make it back for their lunch when I've got the time.
Katsu sando - people seem to rave about this but we thought it was just okay. This seemed like similar sous vide style as the skewer but the skewer was much better Wagyu skewer - yum! Duck cold noodles - okay Scallop Foie nigiri - yes! So good and would order again
Nothing was super bad but I was also not impressed with the meal, especially given the higher end prices. The chili oil dumplings with the sauce in a pipette looks cool but is kinda gimmicky. Black pepper salmon nigiri was great as it should be. One of the rolls with the eel sauce on top (I forget the name) was too salty for my liking, which is a shame because I really like eel.
Kata Robata absolutely lived up to its reputation. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and every bite was outstanding. The nigiri was one of the highlights of the meal. The seaweed salad was unlike any I've had before, it featured about eight different types of seaweed and was beautifully presented. While it wasn't quite my personal favorite, I appreciated the creativity and quality. The true star of the meal was the miso black cod. It was perfectly cooked, buttery, flavorful, and literally finger-licking good. I would come back just for that dish. Excellent food, elegant presentation, and a memorable dining experience. I will definitely be back!

Went during lunch on a Thursday. Lunch menu prices are pretty affordable. I got the miso black cod bento box and it was really good! I also highly recommend the pork shumai. My friends got the katsu don and sushi combo. They also really enjoyed their food. The service was very quick and the vibe was very modern Japanese. read more

First time here and it did NOT disappoint! My fiancé and I came for our anniversary celebration and the food and service was phenomenal! Although the restaurant was pretty full, we received our food pretty quickly. I didn't even get to take pictures of it all. My favorite dish by far was the wagyu panko sandos. I would come back just for that! We received a free dessert for our anniversary and it was delicious as well. read more

Been meaning and wanting to try this place from the moment I was told that this was one of the best if not the best place to get sushi in town. Finally decided to try the restaurant before moving back to California. The service while was good could have been better. My friend asked for a refill of his hot matcha a couple times before someone finally came to refill his cup. The server seemed Knowledgeable about the different selections of fish/sushi that was offered. Ordered the wagyu skewers and as expected the wagyu was melt in your mouth, rich and delicious. I only ordered nigiri for the sushi portion. Each selection was better as I kept eating. It was a great experience to have before moving. read more
Kata Robata is my go-to stop when I'm in Houston and I need to celebrate something or go on a date night. I love the ambiance and the staff. One day I want to try the omakase too, but until then I love love love everything I've ordered off their menu. Every single dessert I've had, and we try to switch it up every time we go, has knocked it out of the park. I think my favorite is the green tea soufflé. It's literally the best dessert I've had at a restaurant. Now to the main entrees-- the kobe sliders with the milk bread, the sushi, and the sashimi are so excellent. The fish is so fresh and served with such care. You can really taste the effort that goes into each dish by the chef. The prices are a little high, but I personally think everything is worth it. There hasn't been a single dish I was unsatisfied with. The drinks are also stellar. I love asking the waiter what they recommend and going with that. I'm always happy with the drink I get. I can't wait for the next time I get to dine here. read more

Omakase style for those times you want to enjoy yourself and offload some mental workload. Hot lychee sake kept flowing for easy conversations. Courses came out in well timed sequences. Server took our preferences and pleasantly surprised us with descriptions of each dish and how to eat it. Reservations highly recommended to avoid wait times, especially considering the competition for bar seating. read more
We had a good time at Kata Robata. This place came highly recommended to us for the fresh sushi. They had a special menu for the day and we ordered some items off it. Their sashimi you need to clarify how many slices come in one order because you may end up with 1 slice vs 2 for roughly $8-12. Pricey in my opinion and of the ones we ordered they did not stand out. Show-stoppers: Wagyu tsukune: A5 wagyu and pork meatballs. How much wagyu is in it? Idk. But the meatball was so tender and flavorful. Tropical spicy tuna roll: the fish was so fresh and the salmon had really good umami flavor Mango kakigori: omg this was the highlight of the meal. The ice was so soft and the mango sauce really shone through. The yuzu whipped cream on top had a strong yuzu flavor. The toasted rice ice cream at the bottom was so sweet and complemented the dessert well. Easily one of the best desserts I've had in Houston! Ambiance was okay, was very cold inside so bring a jacket! Our waiter was pleasant and not overbearing. Fairly loud inside from all the guests. Pricing of dishes is what you expect from a higher end sushi restaurant but well worth the price. We'll definitely be returning if not for the dessert! read more

Service was exceptional! The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty loud at the time but the waiter was very friendly and kept coming back to check on us and clear our table as well as give suggestions. Wagyu sandwiches- 7/10 very tender and yummy Toro & ikura roll- 10/10 Hamachi & jalapeño- 10/10 one of my go to appetizers Miso marinated black cod- 7/10 was cooked perfectly but I would've liked some more flavor Miso lobster macaroni & cheese- 10/10 my favorite dish of the night Green tea soufflé cheesecake- 9/10 the ice cream it came with was delicious and I love the warm cheesecake and ice cream combination read more

We visited as our anniversary lunch. I've been here with my workplace a couple of times before but only got to try the lunch menu. Was happy to try all the other dishes this time. The service from servers were quick and good. Price is definitely high but good for the quality. Romantic ambiance. Bone marrow 5/5 Was tasty with the toast and sauce. It was creamy and mixed with a nice tangy crunch. Wagyu skewer 4/5 It was really soft and had a slight sweet flavor. Came with egg yolk dip. Lobster ramen 5/5 Creamy and savory. Noodles were really soft. Oyster 5/5 Unique flavor with the yuzu. A bit of tang. Scallop nigiri and foie gras 5/5 So tasty and melted in my mouth. read more

After my third or so visit to this popular Japanese institution, I stick by my previous rating of 4/5. The ingredients are of premium quality and there is plenty of deft technique on display, but while I always leave content and pleased with the experience, the meal never leaves me buzzing in quite the same way as some of the other heavy hitters in town. The space is well-lit, the décor minimalist, and we had a great view of the open kitchen from our seat in the back. It did take us a while to actually make it there, as apparently they have a policy that requires the full party to be present FYI. So make sure to give your chronically tardy friends a heads up. Grilled Oyster Mushrooms - meaty skewered mushrooms lacquered in a sweet-umami ponzu glaze and topped with bonito flakes. Features wonderful charred notes, and perfect starter to share. Miso Eggplant with Grilled Sushi Rice - artistic presentation with well-paired textures and flavors involving eggplant roll-ups, pickled tomatoes, and glutinous rice wedges. Foie Gras and Duck Chawanmushi - the height of decadence in the form a fatty, saucy steamed egg custard eaten with a wooden spoon. Each bite is more potent than the last. Rising Sun Roll - this signature roll is filled with yellowtail and avocado and topped with peppercorn-crusted tuna and a truffle vinaigrette. Excellent choice with a bright and intense flavor that lingers. Longhorn Roll - with eel and multi-colored roe, this roll was prettier than it was memorable in terms of tasting notes. Ocean Picante Roll - had more of a pleasant kick than an angry spice to it and the cooling ponzu and salmon made each bite quite refreshing. Solid. Nigiri - the quality of the fish is apparent, layered in thin but long slices over warm, compact rice. The eel was soft and wonderfully savory. The salmon was fantastic, and the tuna slots in not far behind. The hamachi was the only dud of the lot as I found the flavor too subdued and bland. Lobster Ramen - one of the best things on their menu, which is impressive because it beats out a lot of specialized ramen shops. Creamy and a little sweet with well-seasoned ground pork, chewy noodles, and hint of spice. Octopus Crudo - an aesthetic arrangement of thin sliced octopus with mini pickled mushroom and Hawaiian salt. Very citrusy with a nice chewy texture to snack on. Iberico Pork Shumai - Funky, rich, and savory, these dumplings were arguably the best single bite of the day. Comes with some theatrical pipettes which you can use to titrate ponzu to your liking. The sushi, while very good, pales in comparison to the grilled items here, which is truly where Kata shines and separates itself from the masses. "Robata" is front and center in their name for a reason. Definitely a place that warrants repeat visits. read more

The sashimi platter was awesome, the pork belly was delicious, oyster with caviar was super fresh, hamachi collard was flavorful and tender and the A5 wagyu skewers was so tender it's a must. read more
I have made reservations way in advance since the reviews look very promising and it's New Year's Eve. To my surprise, there are a lot of empty tables at 8pm. Resturant looks chic and server is friendly. We placed our first round of orders and learned the wagyu sando is sold out (disappointing as that's the only one dish I really want to try). Sushi platter $44 - 3/5 Madai (butter milk fish) with truffle $27 - 4/5 Kobe beef skewer $20 - 3/5 Longhorn roll $17 - 1/5 Hamachi roll $19 - 1/5 I would say their fish is certainly fresh. But, their sushi rice and their rolls are disappointing. It doesn't compare to any of the neighborhoods Japanese restaurants in San Francisco. The overall quality certainly doesn't deserve such premium pricing. We decided not to place our second round of orders and cut our loses. $160 for four of us out the door. Will not recommend. read more
This place is amazing and it definitely deserves my 5 star review! My hubby and I come here to celebrate our birthdays every year and this place does not disappoint. We love the ambiance, the service and the food is subpar! Everything on the menu is delicious and I can't get enough of their Texas Kobe beef skewers, the sushi rolls and their appetizers. We have tried almost all the sushi rolls and they are all delicious, our favorites are the Ocean Picante and the Rising Sun. My favorite appetizer has to be the Japanese Amberjack Sashimi with foie gras, absolutely Devine! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Highly recommend this place! read more

Kata Robata has been a favorite of mine for sushi for years now so I'm surprised I didn't write a review for here sooner. Seriously what's not to love about Kata Robata? It's a Houston sushi powerhouse of a restaurant that is a must visit if you've never been, or a must come back if it's been a minute. After having tried just about the entire menu, there's really nothing you can go wrong with honestly. I always tell people to be a little adventurous here, order that piece of nigiri you've never tried before or that fish that other sushi restaurants don't offer. Get the seasonal specials because they don't last long, and they're always changing depending on what's fresh. This last visit we loved their mirugai east coast geoduck clam, and their kamasu japanese red barracuda. Other notable mentions for food include their chef's sashimi for 2, miso lobster mac n cheese, Kobe beef skewers, kakuni pork belly, wagyu katsu sando, and any of their fresh nigiri like hotate, fois gras scallop, otoro, or sake. If you aren't sure what to order though, don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. The service here is top notch. Even the managers, like Ed, are sure you're well taken care of. If you're looking for some of the best sushi in Houston, Kata Robata is a must. Also a pro tip: their restrooms are super clean and have high tech bidets. Enjoy haha. read more
Oh my gosh, if I could give this place a ten stars I would. From entering the restaurant until the end of my dinner, I was very happy with the whole dining experience. Food was amazing, as you can see in my pictures they are all a solid 9. Must get the Kobe wagyu and the foie gras (they ran out when we went so I went to pick it up to go the next day it was so worth my drive). The wagyu skewer has two tender lean meat cubes and a fatty piece that bursts in your mouth. Service was a 10, our server was very patient and enthusiastic giving us recommendations. Lastly, the place is pretty spacious, and the warm dim lights give off a mid-upscale dining ambiance. You could also see the sushi chef working if you sit at the bar too. Would be a great place to go for celebration or casual date night! read more
The service is so nice! The waiters/waitresses are so attentive. They make sure to take away plates as soon as we're done to make more space on the table. The kobe beef skewers melt in your mouth. Ask for a bowl of rice, you'll thank me later! The lobster Mac and cheese is a classic. Their fatty salmon belly and otoro is so good! Friends like the uni, scallop, and foie gras a lot! Love that they are generous with the wasabi and ginger. Only thing is that it is extremely loud inside. Everyone conversations are juicy I guess hahaha but that doesn't stop me from coming back! It is dim lit and perfect for celebrations and date nights. read more

Consistently great food and service here. Perfect for date night/HH/girls night out etc. the portions are good size for sharing and the quality is always A1. The ramen is so good. Came to celebrate my 25th birthday at Kata with friends. Our server Alex (Alexander) was very helpful and attentive. He provided amazing service and recommendations. I will always appreciate great service! Ambiance was nice inside, they also have outdoor seating (in which we opted for this time) Food was great, we ordered: * Yuzu marinated salmon sashimi 10/10 * Japanese Amberjack sashimi w/ Foie gras 6.8/10 * Chirashi 10/10 (chef blessed with the selection!!) * Spicy Soy ramen 7/10 (was not spicy, could've added more) * Warm Blueberry Cake 8/10 I'm only giving the amberjack dish a lower rating just because Amberjack is my FAVORITE type of fish and I felt the foie gras was overpowering. The overall dish did not feel balanced. I think amberjack tastes best when paired with light florals/citrus. Overall, super happy with our visit! read more

I tried this well known Houston staple for lunch. The decore was nice, has indoor and sun room seating. I sat right at the sushi making bar, so I got to see all of the action. My server Kristi gave excellent recommendations and cannot wait to come back. Food-I started with a cold dish first. I had the Japanese Amberjack sashimi with Foie Gras, never had Foie before, it was fatty and the sauce was tasty, the nuts make it crunch. Good start. Then I had a hot dish, the blackened cod- wow fish cooked perfect, flaky and portion was great, sauce was tangy and generous amount, I fell in love with this dish. Last had a signature roll I was so torn between rising (I think its called), and Texas Hamachi. Kristi my excellent server gave me lots of time and suggestions to make my meal the best. I got the Texas Hamachi roll and I did not regret it. It was delicious. Perfect bite of heat, acid, fat. The roll just sang I am an official convert. Food came out fast at the right temp. Kata Robta is worth the visit. Will definitely come back. read more

Wow!!! Amazing doesn't begin to describe everything at this restaurant...the food, the service, the ambiance - it was all exquisite! The best thing we had was the Kobe beef skewers. It's cooked sous vide and was so incredibly tender and mouth watering. They were so delicious we ordered 2 more orders. The lobster Mac and cheese was so smooth and creamy and the lobster pieces were pretty big. The pork belly was also very tender. The ocean picante and rising sun rolls were very tasty. For dessert, the banana creme brûlée and coconut tres leches were so yummy. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was light and airy and the red bean ice cream was the perfect compliment. Our server, Khai, was super and made some great recommendations. He was very attentive and friendly and made our dining experience all the better. read more

I'm not going to lie. I still think about the meal I had at Kata Robata from time to time. I wish I lived in Houston just so I can eat here! I had high expectations going in and they were definitely met. Everything I ordered was so delicious and fresh. All the cuts of fish were generous and all the pieces had a melt-in-your-mouth quality to them. The rice treatment was also perfect - not too sweet but not too plain! If you want to try a little bit of everything, I recommend ordering a Sushi Platter. Mine had salmon, ikura, scallop, unagi...all the basic nigiri this girl needed. AND it came with a small salmon roll - definitely more than enough food for me! Of course, being greedy, I over-ordered and got some extra nigiri. All of my favorites came from the Kata Robata special menu. The Toro+Uni+Kaluga Caviar was amazing. I would order that every single time. The Seared Toro Sushi with Wasabi Vinaigrette was also delicious, though I think I personally prefer raw over seared fish. I liked that there are two types of tamago: regular and Tokyo style. (imo the regular one is better!) My group raved about the Kobe Beef Skewers and Wagyu Katsu Sandos, so those are great menu items if you're open to red meat! The icing on top of my Kata Robata experience was that the service was great. Super attentive and the food was quickly prepared. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not split checks by items for large parties (we had a table of 8). Also, we had to split our larger party of 12 because they could not accommodate us all at one table. read more
As a Florida native, I've come across some pretty good food and this place was highly recommended by all my friends who lived in Houston. When we came in right when they opened for dinner I could see they were slammed. We ended up eating at the bar and had plans to do a mini Houston food crawl since we wanted to try lots of the food. The service was exceptional. Everyone was so kind that we were honestly so surprised-maybe it was that southern hospitality but everyone just went above and beyond to make sure our simple meal was taken care of even though we weren't having a whole meal there. We started with the Kobe beef skewers. Best thing I've had in a long time. I don't even like meat very much and was hesitant to get this but it literally melted in my mouth. I've heard people say that meat could be buttery and melt in your mouth before and I never knew what that meant until I tried this. I swear if there's anything you have to get it's this. 10000% this. Swear upon my first born child. For our quick meal we got the Nagasaki Chanpon Ramen. We actually split a bowl and the server was kind enough to portion it in the back for us. The ramen broth was savory and rich and had the right umami that hit the spot. I loved the clams and shrimp and mix of meat as well. It was absolutely delicious and didn't leave you with that oily heavy feeling that ramen leaves sometimes. Beautiful restaurant with great food! We got the sashimi platter that came with around 8 different types of fish and 4 slices each. Each one was fresh and delicious, melted in my mouth! The kakigori was so light and fluffy (apparently they use ice imported from Japan). Perfect amount of syrup - wasn't overly sweet or bland. I have been here a few times but I just came for my birthday last week and I can't wait to be back! Kata is a place where you want to keep coming back to for the freshest sashimi/nigiri, omakase for date night, and their selection of drinks (: During my birthday dinner, I had a party of 5 so I made a reservation in advance and was informed that it would be on the patio. I was a little hesitant at first because it is getting colder outside but I decided that it would be fine. When I got to the restaurant and seated in the patio, I now want every time to be on the patio! It's not technically outside, more like an extension of the main building and it wasn't cold at all. It was actually super intimate and very cute with the exposed lights that they had that made the outside more yellow/warm. I forgot the name of our waiter (sorry :c) but he was soo nice and very accommodating!! We ordered so much sushi and he did everything right. He made sure our food all came out roughly around the same time, refilled our water, and checked on us a good number of times. I think the main stars of the night has to be the: Texas Wagyu Katsu Sando Texas Kobe Beef Skewers Chu Toro (nigiri) O-Toro (nigiri) Kamasu (nigiri) Foie Gras (nigiri) *MKT We also ordered: Hamachi & Jalapeno Sashimi New Zealand King Salmon (nigiri) Scallop (nigiri) Spicy chopped scallop Unagi (nigiri) Japanese Uni *MKT Tropical Spicy Tuna (roll) Texas Hamachi (roll) Caribbean (roll) Everything was soo good. The Wagyu Katsu Sando and Chu/O Toro just melts in your mouth and you just want to savor every bite of it. I wasn't able to try the rolls since my friends literally ate them before I could get the chance but they said they were all really good as well (: The Uni and Foie Gras were MKT price and were around ~$12-16 a piece which I thought wasn't too bad in my opinion. This was my second time trying uni and i'm honestly not a fan of it but i'm glad I still got to give it another try. I think that if you like uni, you would love it here. The drinks were also really good! I ordered the Shishito Mojito and it tasted like juice but eventually kicked in lol I also got to try the Kokonatsu Lychee and this was also really sweet but pretty strong. I loved both! My friends got the Serenity and The Old-Fashioned Way and they both really enjoyed their drinks as well. Overall, I had an amazing experience, like I do every time but I felt extra special on my birthday (: My friend let the waiter know it was my birthday and they brought out the Green Tea Souffle Cheesecake, my fav dessert here (: thank you! It's been years since I've been to Kata Robata and surprisingly it's gotten better with time! We got the lobster sando (one of my personal favorites), grilled shishito, fish collar, duck breast + foie gras cold soba, bone marrow, and various nigiri sushi. Walked in 1.5 hrs prior to closure and was seated promptly on a Sunday night. I ordered the scallops u-10 with oyster mushrooms, Texas roll and the Longhorn roll. Service was superb. I tried the crab and lobster ramen. Omgoodness - it did not disappoint. Very flavorful. Now, if you like spicy then you will need to add some but I'm not a spicy chick. I actually had chunks of lobster in my ramen which was a plus. The serving size was great which allowed me to take some home for later. Staff/service was great as well. read more

I've been going to this place for 3 years and I haven't left a review? Shame on me. Maybe it's because I secretly want to keep this place all to myself, but since I'm a school teacher, I guess I'll share. This place is AMAZING! All caps are necessary. I don't even know where to start. The cocktails are fabulous, the seafood is fresh, the service is always top notch, and the atmosphere is relaxing. If I had the space, I would copy the menu and paste it on my review. That's how much I love everything, but if I have to recommend something I would say the heritage pork miso gyoza is my favorite hands down. I'm sorry for not having a picture, but it's a must order! Any sushi roll is going to be heaven, so you can't go wrong along with any cocktail. This place is perfect for a date night. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared. I love the steam egg with sea urchin. The pork salad is also packed with flavors. The wagyu is also perfect. The green tea cake is a must have for dessert, not too sweet but packed with the matcha flavor and jiggly fluffy soufflé. The only thing I'm not really a fan of is the oyster with caviar. Overall, the food is good but could be really pricy depends on what you get. We have a total of two people and the bill was like almost $200. read more

This is my sister's favorite spot currently, so we came to celebrate her 31st birthdate. We started off with the Yuzu marinated salmon sashimi which was excellent! Usually, I wouldn't opt for this dish by myself, but my sister said it was one of her favorite dishes, so I tried it. It turned out to be my favorite dish of the night. It was flavored so well... so savory. We then had the pan seared scallop which were pretty good... but a slightly lower level of good than the salmon dish. Then we went on to the longhorn roll. I guess they were pretty delicious as I basically swallowed those lol. Then there were the Texas Kobe beef skewer, which were very succulent! The last dish we had was the miso lobster macaroni and cheese dish. This was my least favorite, but that definitely does not mean it was bad. It was very creamy but lacking something to me that would make me say "yummm" instead of "it's okay". For her birthday, she selected the green tea soufflé cheesecake, which is very Unique. My sister enjoyed it but I wasn't a fan. Overall, I had a pretty good experience here. Would recommend. read more

Are the owners japanese?
The head chef, and several of the assistant chefs, are Japanese. However, the majority of the restaurant is owned by the Chinese family behind the Azuma restaurants.
Does anyone have any details on their omakase? Price? Do I need to specify that's what we would like to order in the reservation upfront?
I don't know the price but the point of the omakase is that it's a chef's tasting that they choose for you based on the current ingredients etc. Generally they will ask if there are any allergies or other exceptions but otherwise they curate the…

They offer the full menu at lunch as well. We ordered off the full menu last week during lunch.
