    VEG THUKPA

I walked into this restaurant coz I love momos. I must say this restaurant gives that Nepali vibes and is cozy and not too bright. I tried their jhol momos and veg thupka! Liked both the dishes and I was full after eating these two. Service was quick - did not take too long. My only worry was I believe $14 for 8 momos or for thupka could feel a little pricey. But that's what Bay Area pricing is! It is easily accessible and close to great mall and Indian grocery stores. Great place to hangout during shopping. Good number of parking spots available in the market complex or on the street. This is from April- sorry for the late review.

I love the pork sekuwa aka pork sadeko. If you come, definitely give this dish a try! We also got butter chicken (kids- which is not spicy at all), but I think mild would have been fine. Momo dumpling with chicken tikka sauce, pretty good- it was pan fried first

Food: - Got noodles, momos, and rasmalai - Did feel like the noodles could've been more flavorful, but did enjoy the momos - Rasmalai was great, cold and sweet - Priced fairly - 8/10 Service: - Super friendly waiters that didn't hover over us either - Did need to go up to pay - 9/10 Ambiance: - Brightly lit - Very cozy - Not too busy but not empty either on a weekday evening - Family-friendly - Felt slow-paced, like you could sit and talk for a while over the food - 10/10 Overall Rating: 8/10

First time trying Kathmandu with two friends and really enjoyed the experience. We came kind of late after a small business event and were recommended to try their momo (dumplings). Also our first time having Nepalese food which was delicious! Well decorated restaurant and love the vibrant colors and atmosphere. It's pretty straightforward for ordering, which we can do on the app. The host also gave us clarifications on what we saw through yelp pictures. We ordered a couple items to share, the mustang fries, chicken tandoori, Chinese bhel, pork momo and a vegetarian momo. All the dishes were unique and familiar at the same time. The tandoori chicken had about 4 decent sized pieces and well seasoned - not dry. The mustang fries were like a twist on potato wedges! Both momo fillings were good but I think I likes the pork version a bit more! And our favorite was the Chinese bhel which I think is like a crunchy noodle salad. Super good flavor and texture. Would definitely come back and try out more dishes in the future!

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is probably our go to Nepali restaurant in the South Bay Area. The owners are always around, they're so nice and the overall service is good. We usually get: Buffalo Chilly - delicious crispy buffalo meat in onions and bell pepper sauce. 10/10 Steamed chicken momo - the momo is more spiced than other places but the flavor is delish. Chicken fried rice for the kids without any spices or pepper - the kids seem to love it. The portion is quite big Goat Sekuwa Set - absolutely our fav set. Comes with grilled goat meat, lemon, beaten rice, peanuts and beaten rice. Meat is cooked perfectly. I love the quirky ethnic decor. Definitely recommend it

Really wanted to like this place since my friend raved about it, but I can't say I enjoyed the flavors here for Nepalese food. For the items I did like though, they were solid overall. RECS: + Samosas ($6/2pcs, 4.25/5 stars) are solid and large, comes with sweet chili sauce + Veggie pakora ($12, 4.25/5 stars) were crunchy, savory vegetable fritters! Unexpected like as we didn't order this but were pleased + Chicken tikka masala ($16, 4.25/5 stars) is always a must + Garlic naan ($5.25, 4/5 stars) was buttery, though I wish there was slightly more garlic PASS: + Chili buffalo momos ($18/8pcs, 2/5 stars) had a good level of spice but not a fan of the flavors from the spices + Palak paneer ($16, 1/5 stars) was just not my thing texture and flavor wise

AALU BODI TAMA--very good! Potatoes, Black-Eyed Peas, and Bamboo Shoots. Not spicy.

I love their Impossible Momos so I drove a little out of my way to get them. I also wanted to try a curry. I had looked at the Aalu Bodi Tama because I love potatoes and Black-eyed peas, but I was nervous about it because I read a review or saw somewhere that it was sour. The server said it wasn't very sour. Thankfully I got that because it was really very good! It didn't taste sour at all. It had a nice earthy (in a good way) flavor due to the peas. Except it wasn't spicy at all. I will definitely be ordering that again! And I may have to drive out of my way more often for some more Impossible Momos and my new fav Black-eye pea curry!

    Veg Jhol momos

Good food, quick service and casual ambiance. We ended up spending couple of hours with our food there, and they didn't bother us on a Sunday early evening. The food is good, I loved the momos and the jhol (though) cold it was to the point. Loved to see honey chilli potatoes in the menu. Though the potatoes could be crispier but the flavors were good. So no complaints. I will go back whenever I am craving for jhol momos and will recommend them to everyone.

    Kathmandu Chiya

Vegetarian Thukpa is very comforting, comes with an option to adjust the spice level according to your preferences. Loaded with veggies and garbanzo beans in a well balanced broth, made it feel nutritionally wholesome. Hakka noodles is also good, light and easy on grease. While I liked the steamed momos overall, I would have preferred an even softer momo wrapper, the flavorful fillings make up for it though Kathmandu chiya was an unexpectedly highlight, the spices in the Chiya hit the right note and made for a much needed comfort beverage for the cold weather.

I have loved this place ever since I discovered it! I have been here multiple times, tried many dishes, yet to try many more. Went during different times evening and night mostly, the vibe is great. They always accommodated my request of 'no msg' for all dishes and I am grateful for that. I have tried the Momo chili, paneer chili, baby corn chili. All of them have the same sauce base thats spicy and full of flavor. I have loved loved the hakka noodles - thin noodles with some peppers and other veggies tossed in some sauce, tastes absolutely delicious. A lot of the food, specially the dishes I mentioned above taste quite similar to what you get in Mumbai, India. Better than many restaurants who claim they serve authentic chinese food like Mumbai! Honey chili potato again has similar taste but it's also sweeter than other dishes. All momos have good amount of filing of veggies and a little paneer, i did find the dough layer thick sometimes but nevertheless they were delicious (just not healthy ) I also tried the jhol momo and i was skeptical but loved that too. The sauce is not peanuty (i dont like peanut sauce). Cant wait to try their well known thupka dish next. Oh the staff is super nice, they wanted us to try different sauces they offer. Also love the mouth fresheners they have at the billing counter!

i loveeee this place!!! perfect place whenever you're craving butter chicken and garlic naan!! we also got the butter garlic shrimp as a starter and GAME CHARGER SO DELICIOUS THICK SHRIMPS the service was great too!! so attentive and nice! the wait for the food around 20-35 mins but that's the usual and we also order a lot love the cheery vibes and decorations here. not as busy on the weekday afternoon compared to weekend night. was told that it gets crowded towards the night tho

Solid spot for Nepalese food. Everything we got was good, except the Spinach paneer. It was my second time trying paneer, but the texture and taste isn't for me. I thought it was alright. However, I liked everything else! For the momos, we picked chili and water buffalo. I was a bit hesitant about eating buffalo, but it was good and didn't taste gamey. It reminded me of beef. I highly recommend getting the chili momos because of the flavors and the veggies. It's has a sweet, savory kick and wasn't too spicy. The garlic naan was great and I loved dipping it in the tikka curry. I don't remember the name, but this fried vegetable dish was super good! It was tasty and reminded me of kaarage from Japanese restaurants. This was my second time trying Kathmandu and my friends liked their experience. If I'm ever in the area again, I would eat here.

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

The one without ice still came cold and was about $2.50 more in price. Both tasted similar and the one with ice wasn't diluted at all. Both were refreshing and we loved the flavor. It was very authentic and refreshing. Chicken noodle soup was amazing! I don't know about the 8 hour boiled chicken since it tasted like chicken breast broth and not bone broth but it was super delicious. The noodles were slimy and it was very comforting. No chili oil was provided on the table. The server spilled some broth on our table while carrying a hot bowl of soup. I recommend asking the servers to use a serving plate to bring over food to the customer's table. Spicy chicken with honey and potatoes- We've tried this dish at many different restaurants, mostly without potato chips and we didn't like it here. Some pieces of chicken were bland and others absorbed most flavors. The honey did not help the dish at all. There was no balance of flavors. I did not like the addition of packaged wavy potato chips into the dish. Dai style seafood- This dish was very disappointing. It was served cold which was the highlight of the dish but nothing tasted fresh. This dish took the most time to come out. The dressing tasted well made, it was sweet and savory but the seafood hadn't absorbed the dressing. There were mussels, clams, squid and calamari in it and the balance of flavors was out of proportion. Laksa shrimp fried rice- Good wok hey, chewy mushroom bits and little pineapple bits but shrimp was very hard to find. The addition of egg was nice. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce- Nicely fried very tiny pieces of chicken with 1 tsp of tangy sauce. Good dish. Nothing extraordinary. I would come back for the chicken noodle soup on a cold night!

Both were really good but my favorite was still the shrimp. I loved the veggies in the roll too. They can be a bit hard to pick up and eat because they're massive and cut into thirds. Other than that, the rice noodles are thin and silky and hold the sauce nicely. The sauce is also delicious. We also ordered the fish congee which was simple but comforting. So I would plan ahead and come early. We came just a few minutes after opening on World Cup finals Sunday.. managed to grab the last large table. The menu is pretty limited compared to other dim sum restaurants but the basics are offered here: the usual steamed favorites, rice rolls, congee, wonton noodle soup, steamed buns, stir fry noodle dishes. * Siu mai - very tender, slightly sweet from the pork and very juicy. It was seasoned well so no need for sauce. * Har gow- Soft, thin wrapper with a succulent shrimp inside. Delicious and would order again. * Pork and preserved egg congee- highly recommend! The porridge is tasty and the pork slices are incredibly tender. We were pleasantly surprised. * Wonton soup - Wonton was sweet and juicy. Pretty solid. * Lotus sticky rice - Pretty average in my opinion. I wasn't expecting chicken to be inside but that wasn't the issue. The sticky rice was on the blander side with the meat being unseasoned as well. At first glance you can tell that the sticky rice is really white which it really should be more of a brown color from the sauce. This was quite disappointing. * BBQ pork and dried shrimp rice roll- Average in taste. The pork slices were thick and lacking in that sweet classic bbq pork marinade. I would skip this next time. * Egg custard bun- The bun was soft and fluffy with a good custard to bread ratio. The custard was lacking in flavor and sweetness. The texture was also really really thick. Would skip next time. Service was great. The food came out impressively fast, especially for a full house of customers. We were checked on frequently by the staff which we really appreciated. I would love to see more vegetable items offered to make the dim sum a bit more lighter/healthier. Service was outstanding and the food was pretty good. I would definitely come back for the har gow, pork/egg congee, and siu mai.

I love Taiwanese food, and this restaurant is pretty good. I always love Taiwanese ground pork rice…read moreso that was great. The tofu went pretty hard as well. I expected a dissent kind of Taiwanese sausage but that's on me for not knowing the menu. Service was good. There was plenty of space on a weekday night. The decor is nice, maybe a bit darker than I expected (dark feels like a fancy restaurant), but there were fun decorations. Were some boxes on a table but I didn't mind.

Food is okay, but very rude service. There's nothing wrong…read moreabout the food, but no highlight either. I like the sauce more than pork feet itself. However, I experienced very rude service. A waiter told me they don't take credit cards when I was trying to pay. I was like, okay, maybe I should have done more research before I went there. So I tried to talk to him to see if there's any other options, like Zelle or Venmo, or maybe I can go to a nearby ATM and get some cash. He ignored me and did not respond, and left. I walked around, was finally able to get a waitress who was willing to talk to me. I explained that I didn't know they only took cash and I wonder if I can pay through other ways. She pointed at the wall and told me "it says on the wall", sounding like blaming me for not getting cash ready. Yes, maybe I should have read all the signs on the wall, but I really don't enjoy being blamed when I did nothing wrong. Assuming credit cards as one of the payment methods is not my fault, just how the society works. Anyway, I was able to pay them via Venmo, but I did not enjoy the experience at all.
