I couldn't understand why we were the only customers at Kathmandu cuisine today. Maybe lunch on a Tuesday tends to be slow. But I hope there are lots of full tables at other times because this restaurant is wonderful and people need to know about it. Every dish we ordered was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious, and with generous portions at reasonable prices. Also, with two out of the three of us being vegetarians, we were pleased to find so many vegetarian options on the menu. I also must mention the smiley fries--you will find no better-tasting fries than these, and the presentation is delightful. Being as though she is well aware of my daughter's picky eating habits and having a love for noodles, she was very unwavering at the idea of us HAVING to come. I took the leap and arrived at the restaurant around 615pm. The restaurant was open and seating was plentiful. Upon entering there are 2 kiosks for ordering and payment. We stood around for a bit and not a single person provided direction- they simply stared. My guy eventually approached an employee who informs us that taking a seat first is fine since there are QR codes posted at each table. Order: Fanta Samosa Garlic Naan Lamb Korma Curry, comes with rice. Veg Hakka Noodles [their version of chow mein] ** we made sure to order non spicy items and made sure to request NO SPICE on any of the dishes since we were dining with a toddler** Food comes out a lot quicker than the 20 minute estimated time provide. Hallelujah!! I dive right into feeding my child the noodles and she immediately gives me a pause, eyes wide. The noodles had heat to them. I began to sample everything and the only dish that didn't contain some kind of heat was the garlic naan. I won't hold the samosa against them because that particular order was specifically for me. To be fair, the heat wasn't anything terrible but there was a light tingling that lingered after each bite- delicious to adults, not so much to a 3yo. She spend the entire meal just sipping on the soda, refusing to eat :( Food overall was really enjoyed between us adults. The samosas were hot, crispy, and very flavorful. I didn't even need to use any of the sauces offered. The lamb curry was delicious with both the rice and garlic naan. I could eat that stuff all day!! Veggie chow mein was okay. I could have done without that and maybe purchased another dish. 3 stars overall. I wish the "mandatory heat" in this cuisine was more transparent. While it is very delicious, I don't recommend this place if you are toting/dining with a child. On top of that, there was a large group last night that went into some really really loud karaoke. This just made our meal with our child that much more difficult. I'd absolutely avoid this place like the plague when that kind of event is going down. After a well spent Sunday evening at Sierra open space reserve, wifey and I were looking for dinner options and we found this authentic Nepalese cuisine in Milpitas. Truly best decision made to eat here as we both enjoyed the flavours of Nepal in this hidden gem I must say. As an avid traveler and foodie who has tasted Nepal cuisine in the city of Kathmandu itself and Thamel. I have been surprised by the authenticity of food I got from Kathmandu cuisine. So delicious and flavourful. We ordered Chicken THUKPA and Chicken Chili. Both dishes were truly worth it and value for money. The quantity was sufficient that one thukpa was enough for 2. Chicken chilli was worth appetiser. But THUKPA is a must try. My preggy wife can't eat momos at this time, so next time we are around , we will try their steamed momos and lunch thali. Randomly stopped here a few weeks ago with my girlfriend and I have to say we were thoroughly impressed. We got there a little later in a Tuesday around 8 PM. When we arrived we were promptly seated. The restaurant has plenty of seating for groups of 4 and up and it was fairly busy but not overly crowded when we got there. For food we got an order of veggie haka noodles, chili paneer, and Impossible Momos The haka noodles wer solid and fairly standard - nothing to complain about. The other two items though were phenomenal. The chili paneer might be some of the best I've ever had - it seems that they coat/ bread the paneer a little bit which helps it absorb the sauce a little better. Speaking of the sauce , it was to die for. Tangy, lightly sweet and salty. As for the impossible momos, they were an absolute delight. Finding meat substitute momos at restaurants is quite rare and I have to say , as a meat eater myself, Kathmandu knocked it out of the park. This tastes like a regular lamb or beef momo but without the guilt. My only gripe is that they don't provide much of their side sauces - they were all fantastic and I would loved to have more. With excellent food and a great portion to price value (you really get your bang for your buck here), I'd highly recommend giving Kathmandu a try. We ordered one Cauliflower Manchurian and one Hakka Noodles. I specifically told the server that the Cauliflower Manchurian needed to be gravy style, and he said "okay." But when the dish arrived, it had no gravy at all. When we pointed it out, they simply said it doesn't come with gravy and just poured a little thick sauce on top of the Manchurian. This should have been informed to us beforehand -- it was misleading and disappointing. On top of that, the Cauliflower Manchurian was overly deep-fried and extremely oily. The oil tasted old and left a heavy aftertaste -- I could literally feel it stuck in my throat. The dish was unpleasant and felt like it was fried in poor-quality oil. Honestly, I wouldn't want to try it again. The noodles still had some flavor and wasn't entirely bad. Maybe other items like the momos are better -- I can't say since I didn't try them -- but based on this experience, the Cauliflower Manchurian was a big letdown. read more

I ordered the Veg Thupka & Impossible Momos. *Note to the vegan and lactose intolerant~ the veg momos have paneer, so they aren't vegan. The noodle soup was lighter than others I've had before but still quite good. I finished all the noodles and veg, and took the soup home to repurpose for another soup or two. No regrets there! The Impossible Momos were VERY MEATY. I'm not one to order Impossible meats usually so this was a lot to handle! But for those mock-meat lovers and veg-curious, this is worth a try! I'll have to check with someone who eats meat to see if this comes close to meat momos. I would assume so, but you know what they say about assume-ing! The overall decor and ambiance was great. Colorful, bright, casual. If you check in on Yelp you get a free hot tea with milk. -not vegan friendly, but FYI for everyone else. It looks like a nice way to cap off your meal! Not the food you expect from a nepalese style restaurant. I respect nepalese culture and enjoy their delicious food, but the food making is not that expected. The quality of the food is good but the style or the making is not that good. We ordered Goat Sekuwa and the meat was so hard and very chewy, the salad that came with it was reasonable. Even the goat curry was too hard and chewy (not recommended). The ambiance inside the restaurant is very colorful and Nepali style. Came here on a weekday to eat dinner and try something new. The shop is spacious and there wasn't a lot of people when our party of three came in at 5:30. There's self-ordering kiosks but you can also order with a server. The food took around 40 minutes to come out. We had to check on it several times and saw the people at the other tables get their food. I think it was because they wanted all the food to come out for us at once instead of having the food come out one by one. Remember to check in for a free chai because that's what sustained our wait. Buffalo - This was our first time trying buffalo and we were excited. I think if you're a fan of strong-tasting meats like goat and lamb, you may be able to stomach this, but unfortunately the strong smell threw me off. It was a nice experience and came along with various sauces, cucumber, carrot, and peanuts. I forgot its name but we had a sour veggie curry that had potato and bamboo shoots (?). It was a nice addition to round out the other flavors on our table. Fried pork momos - It had a crunchy exterior with a hot, crumbly, meat-filled interior. It was salty enough that I needed to eat a carb with it. Good thing I had the rice from my curry nearby. The naan basket was fragrant and garlicky. The man who I assumed was the owner asked us how we liked our food and he was really friendly. Overall I think this was a nice venture into trying new foods although I wish I could've tried their thali, which is for lunch only. As a heads up, as we were leaving, a spicy sizzling plate came out for another table and nearly choked everyone in the store from the smoke and spices. This time, we ordered baby corn chili, gobi Manchurian, butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, and garlic naan. I didn't eat the butter chicken but the rest were good. I felt the gobi Manchurian and paneer tikka masala were a bit too sweet for me. Still good, still edible, but I'd have preferred more of a spicy side than sweet. This was first time eating at the restaurant and the interior was nicely decorated but sadly, as nice as the staff was, service was a bit lacking. We had to ask for water multiple times, from multiple people. The naan took forever to come out to the point we were almost done with our meal! I was getting ready to ask for a refund on the naan (since we paid on the QR code site) but the guy kept saying it was coming out. We had leftovers and instead of waiting for someone to offer packing supplies, I just got them myself. I'm not certain of the protocol of these things at this place, but I felt I was doing more than I should have for being at a restaurant. Possibly the best indo Chinese in Milpitas- Fremont area! We come here often and our all time favorites are the Paneer sizzler (this is quite spicy!!), thukpa (very very comforting), Hakka noodles and momos. We also love their Nepali tea. They have some authentic Nepali food options with a very unique taste I've never found in the Bay Area. Their service always has been satisfactory. They have live music over the weekends!! The ambiance is hippie cool! Lots of interesting posters, clean layout for seating areas and a live music area. They have a kiosk for ordering which makes the whole order/payment process a breeze! I came here with friends as one of them recommended it based on her past visit. I ordered the vegetarian sekuwa and also split veggie momos (steamed) with friends. The food was fresh and yummy and I appreciate that it was served on a plate that has different sections to separate out the different components; the only negative aspect was that I bit into some peppers and I'm unfortunately not able to handle much spiciness, so I couldn't fully appreciate the spicy parts. The restaurant has an all gender single stall restroom and a women's single stall restroom. I liked the decor as it was colorful, seemed like a nice environment for someone to read a book or listen to a live musical performance or reading. I saw a guitar there, which toward the end of lunchtime one of the workers actually picked up and began playing. We are so happy we found this gem in San Jose! My husband went to Nepal for medical school and has very high expectations for Nepalese food. The staff was so amazing and were happy that he was conversing with them in their native language. Noodles- these are thin noodles with hardly any veggies and a bit on oily side. It had some sort of indo chinese taste. I love Nepalese cuisine and being able to introduce friends to their wonderful flavors and spices. Kathmandu Cuisine was on our nearby radar and seemed like a really solid spot so we decided to come check them out. My meat eating friends ordered their Salmon Sekuwa ($16), Pork Momos ($14), and the Pork Curry ($15). As for me, I went the plant-based route with their Aalu Sadeko (potatoes) ($10) and the Aalu Bodi Tama ($12), which was a stewed curry made with black eyed peas, potatoes, and bamboo shoots. The potatoes were spicy for sure. Loved the flavors but didn't realize how much of a kick it'd have lol. Definitely need rice or bread to cool down or ask for less spice if your tolerance isn't high. My bodi tama was also great - very tangy with a kick, and went well with my side of roti. I did notice that all the meat options came out first and it took more time for me to get my veggie options, so my friends decided to wait until mine came out before eating. While the food was pretty good, I do wish that more of the vegetarian options would be vegan friendly, or that they'd be able to indicate which items were naturally vegan. Even with their extensive vegetarian menu, I did end up needing to look up certain dishes online to check and see if they fit my diet. Unfortunately, their veggie momos are not vegan friendly but their impossible meat ones were. I didn't want to spend the extra $6 just for that though so I had to go dumplingless tonight. Service was decent during the night that we went. Although it wasn't super packed, it did seem like they may have been understaffed as it took us a while to get menus and then to order.
