Anyone who has ever gotten acrylics taken off knows how painful it can be. Here, I couldn't even feel it. Prices are totally reasonable and the girls are super sweet. My pedicure was possibly one of the best foot/leg massages I've ever had. So why only 3 stars? The past 2 times I've gotten gel manicure there they start to chip off in a matter of days. This last time I went in I paid $50 for gel manicure and a regular pedicure and the pedicure is lasting waaaay longer than the gel. I'm actually not totally convinced it is gel given the way its chipping off. I would absolutely recommend if you are just looking for regular polish. Like I mentioned their messages are awesome and they are really kind but 3 stars because I need to get my nails done again and its only been a week. read more

I love Kathy nails! Have been going regularly (for dip and gel polish manicures as well as gel polish pedicures) since November 2019 and am so impressed! Eva and her husband are THE kindest people and take wonderful care of every customer. They offer MANY dip, gel, and regular polish colors to choose from and Eva is very talented at nail art including: acrylic flowers, foils, crystals/gems, and appliqués. The pedicure chairs provide a great massage, and pedicure services often include a warm neck/shoulder wrap--talk about relaxing! Eva takes her time with every manicure and is very gentle. I cannot think of a time I've been remotely unsatisfied. You must visit this nail salon! Nothing in Santa Cruz compares and I encourage you to come to Kathy's--you won't regret it. Was not impressed with my pedicure. She was done in 15 minutes. It felt rushed and not at all relaxing. Most places I've been to offer you a drink. I wasn't even offered water. I'm heavily pregnant and was surprised they didn't even think to see if I wanted a drink. The end result left little to be desired too. The paint job was ok, but my feet and legs felt dried out after the massage and my heels still look awful. Won't be going back I'm afraid. The only positive is they took me as a walk in, so that was nice, but then again they advertise walk-in, so I guess they should. read more

Inexpensive, friendly, calming...Kathy's is great. My pedicures have always been first-rate, but I agree with Olivia C. that the manicures leave something to be desired. I actually don't care for manicures in general, but my polish began chipping off the same day. So two stars for manicure, five stars for pedicure. Then after your pedicure, cross the street and have a cup of java or hot choc at White Raven! Or lunch at Don Quixote. She delivers what you ask, and I really appreciate her work!! Kathy's Nails is in a cute little unassuming yellow cottage along Hwy 9 near the New Leaf market in Felton. The inside isn't as cute as the outside, and it has an alarming chemical smell (hellllooooo nail polish remover!), but nonetheless, I highly recommend this place. I came here the other day to get a pedicure and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Kathy didn't actually do my nails ... Kathy's husband did them. He was very nice and courteous and -wow- did a fantastic job on my toe-nails! This isn't the most frilly or luxurious nail salon I've ever been too (to say the least), but it was clean with a very friendly atmosphere and the quality of the nail-painting was really top-notch. The pedicure only cost me $18 (not including the tip I left), but it was probably one of the best jobs anyone has ever done on my nails for any price (and I've had those $65 hotel pedicures). I find that a lot of 18-buck pedicures look fine from 5'2" away, but if you look closely, you can see a fair amount of sloppiness. Not so at Kathy's! One last thought: even though they say "walk-ins welcome", this place seems to be very popular with the locals so I recommend calling ahead before you show up. -------------UDATE---------------- In the interest of full disclosure, I do need to report that when I went back here again and got a manicure, it didn't turn out so great. I guess it looked okay at first, but it quickly started bubbling and flaking off. I don't know why my pedicure was so much better ... maybe because I wasn't talking with the technician so much during the pedicure! I feel bad lowering my rating from 4- to 3-stars, but I think ultimately that's where they're at right now. If I go back again and they do a fantastic job, maybe I'll change it back. read more

After 4 long months I found this place that was open for a mani and pedi. I called ahead to find out what their new policies were for an appointment so that I was prepared. I was seated to do a pedicure and there are plexiglass separating each chair and then I gave all my information to the tech that is required for follow up in case of any infections then my temperature was taken. The color selection is not good at all, which was disappointing but I was desperate, I chose the classic pedicure which included cuticle removal and a massage ...that's a joke !! The gentleman started my pedicure and acted like he was new, he was very slow and didn't cut a way any cuticles. He looked at my cuticles and then moved on until I stopped and ask him to do them , it's been 4 months I'm sure I have cuticles that need to be removed. He then started my massage which is also a joke not even 2 minutes. Pedicure came out okay it was clean and not messy is all I can say that was good about it, next is my manicure a super long process...this gentleman was the slowest and someone else had to finish. All in all my mani was ok and pedicure okay I paid them a very good tip $20 per tech only because they are open and risking their health not because it was a good experience. I only get pedicures a few times a year, and when I do, I'm always excited to go to Kathy Nails. I've tried other nail salons in San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley, but Kathy Nails is by far the best. Kathy and Michael treat you like family as soon as you enter the door. I've only ever had Michael for pedicures (and can't speak for the manicures) but he gives a great foot massage and the polish lasts in perfect condition for weeks. Even though, as I mentioned, I rarely go, Michael always remembers my name and what we last chatted about.
