    Khao Piak Sen

Cute little restaurant with walk up ordering and a few booths and tables for sitting down. Food here is a mix of Laotian, Hmong, Hawaiian and Chinese. I had the Khao Pak Sen which is chicken noodle soup and it was delicious. Really good broth and flavor. I am also giving five stars because she let me park my scooter inside so I can keep an eye on it. The person working the counter was knowledgeable about the menu and I heard her suggest things to people that they would like or what is most popular. So if you're craving a soothing, home made Laotian chicken soup in Chico, Kathy's has you covered. Would recommend and will be back to try more.

Beef Pho and Chicken Combo Dish

Picked up our order from their shop. Everything was still still super hot when we got it home. So delicious. Lots of sauces, limes and cilantro with order. We will definitely be back soon!

The food here is top quality. I always get the combo w chicken and 2 egg rolls! It was perfect portion to share for me and boyfriend.

I got the khao piek and ate it at the restaurant. It was for sure authentic and did not disappoint my taste bugs. I took the leftovers to go for my hubby to try. He absolutely loved it so we went back and got him an order. My hubby who is very picky is now a fan of khao piek and has added the dish to his list of approved soups. If we cannot find the same flavor of khao piek in our town, we might have to come back to Chico just for our khao piek fix.

The broth of the pho seemed bland, but once adding the Hoisin sauce and sriracha, it tasted so much better. The Thai iced tea (regular) was awesome. The service was fast, and the girls at the counter, were very friendly!

Full order of biscuits and gravy and then mango sticky rice. Sooooo good!

Loveeeee their food. Everything is soo good and tasty. The people are very nice and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

Got some Beef Pho and a green Thai iced tea.

The Khao Piek Sien is such a good home made soup. It is similar to pho but has thicker noodles which makes the broth a tiny bit thicker.

Slightly disappointed by hype. It's probably the best pho in Chico. My friend who ordered the chicken teriyaki definitely had a good dish.

They are famous for their Poké bowl, but we only did sushi this time (my willpower deserves recognition).. The edamame was excellent and their miso soup is still one of my favorites anywhere. It just tastes different... richer and more intentional than the usual versions. I'm a huge saba fan and theirs was exactly why I keep coming back... clean, fresh and done right. My kid had the tataki and it was the same story there, super fresh and gone in about thirty seconds. We also had the Gilroy (yum) Japanese Cowboy, Red Dragon, Hibachi Sunset and Lotus Cobra. The Lotus Cobra is one of those rolls you order once and then it just becomes part of your future. The ambiance is probably my favorite in Chico. It's one of those places where you can have a great meal and some top tier people watching at the same time. Service is always solid, friendly without being fake, and everything from the dining area to the bathrooms is consistently clean. I'll just say it... I wish we had a place like this back on the Mendocino Coast. Until then, this is always going to be my Chico sushi stop. If you like fresh fish, good energy and a place that just feels dialed in, Rawbar is hard to beat.

I was beyond excited to try the spicy katsu chicken sando (I literally attempted eating here for 2 months but kept missing their open hours. They are VERY limited). The pricing I was charged was a bit more than what was on their menu, which I hadn't noticed until after the fact. :-/ When the sandwich arrived it was not at all what expected. I looked up the sandwich months ago and it appeared to be a juicy chicken breast between sliced cabbage on thick, fluffy bread. What I got was some beat up, flattened GREEEEEEASY gummy chicken that wasn't the least bit appetizing. It reminded me of frog legs and I was pretty much grossed out after the 2nd bite. The bread was exactly the same as Astesano Bakery Bread and didn't seem "home made" as their menu states. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't (home made) but it sure seemed like the same bread I buy at Safeway. Needless to say I was BEYOND bummed out. I guess that's partially my fault though, I mean... I saw a picture they used to have posted on their menu (it's no longer there) and had expectations that it was going to be exactly the same, which it most certainly was NOT. If I could sum it up in 2 words: Gummy & Greasy. Yuck. The best part was the cabbage so, that's what I ate and ditched the rest of the "sandwich" to the trash. So yeah, $13 + tip for some cabbage. Awesome. With that said, I don't recommend this place for the Sando's but! I may return for the egg rolls. They look good in the pictures however since I got 100% duped this time around, I think I'll ask if anybody I personally know has tried the egg rolls first before I spend any more money here. I do like their outdoor dining and if they could move the ginormous trash bins away from the outside dining tables it would be a great place to dine (who wants to eat next to trash cans??) I'll end on a positive note and say, I did like that they have an option of indoor or outdoor dining, if they move the trash cans, that would be my preferred place to eat.

The drink quality and snacks really stand out and could compete with the various shops you might find all over the Bay Area. The popcorn chicken has a nice texture and has the desired taste you expect from a Taiwanese style snack. Many boba places get this wrong by using too much syrup or get it too watered down. However, the ratio and tea taste is perfect here.
