It didn't fall apart and the taste was good. The edamame was amazing as well, sad I didn't get a picture of this or most of the items we ordered. The service was impeccable as well. They didn't miss a beat. The only upsetting thing I had was the Australian wagyu. This was seasoned perfectly but not cooked to my liking. I eat steak medium well because I don't like the bloody feel to it, but I got it medium rare. It was pink all throughout. Thankfully my husband didn't mind it so I gave it to him. Yellowtail maki - standard 4/5 Blue crab maki - so at other sushi places it's usually just straight up blue crab but this place decided to bake it which was unexpected and not as good as pure blue crab. Was sad to hear the arts district location shut down but we were really taken care of at the Pasadena location - highly recommend! We initially made rezzies for a table but bar over table is preferred for me. The host was really warm and helpful in our decision to sit at the bar, as she mentioned there was an omakase special. Santi, our sushi chef, was welcoming and informative on what was on the menu. Jess, our waitress, was very pleasant and attentive. Clayton, the AM, checked in on us throughout the night and was able to answer any questions we had. Everyone was friendly and made sure we had the best experience. The food was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the fresh and pickled wasabi. Both are necessities for your sushi. Fish tasted very fresh. Cocktails are made with sake and light spirits. A friend and I ate here for my birthday last month, and I was super excited because I had read good reviews about the food. We made reservations for a Friday night. The restaurant is on the top floor of the Tea Rose Garden. It has the ambiance of a bar, with dim lights and a full bar. We both ordered mocktails, which were good. And we both went with a fixed menu. The fish was fresh, though there were some plates I did not particularly like. Their wagyu beef was overcooked and not good. I was also bummed that they had run out of Japanese uni, so I settled for the Santa Barbara uni. The garnishes of caviar were good but underwhelming for the price. We finished off with a dessert that was tasty. Service was good. Staff was friendly and attentive. I would come back but not for the fixed menu. read more

Enjoyed a nice dinner here one evening. I made a reservation before coming. To get to the restaurant, you have to walk up a set of stairs. It is dimly lit inside. Started off with a Lychee Mint Martini. It was a delicious cocktail with the perfect balance of lychee and alcohol. Everything on the menu sounded great. I was mainly interested in trying their wagyu and sushi with caviar. Unfortunately 2 of the items I wanted, Denver Wagyu and Seared Hotate, were both unavailable when I was there. The wagyu tacos were a good appetizer. The guacamole was more like a creamy avocado sauce than a typical guacamole. I noticed the tomato was missing from our tacos though... I think the tacos would have been even better with some refreshing tomato on top. My favorite item I ordered was the Toro Roll. The toro, truffle oil, sea salt, and caviar were a wonderful combination. My least favorite turned out to be the Wagyu Shishito Roll. When eating this roll, I tasted the shishito peppers more than anything else. The flavor of the shishito overpowered the wagyu and caviar. Another roll I really enjoyed was the Amberjack Bluefin Tuna Roll, which was fresh and fragrant. The bluefin tuna had a melt-in-your mouth texture. The citrus from the yuzu really enhanced the roll into something amazing. For a roll without raw fish, I would recommend the Baked Salmon Roll. This was incredibly creamy and delectable. I was surprised at how big the bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen was. It was a good ramen, but nothing amazing. I enjoyed the chashu more than the soft shell crab. Shoyu egg is always a great complement to ramen. Service was a bit slow. I had to wait quite a while just to get a refill of water. All the staff was friendly though. Our daughter took us out to Kaviar for our birthday. She told us that they have the absolute best sushi in the world there and we would really enjoy it. She was so right! Some of the absolute best sushi and service I have ever received. Kaviar had a great selection of Sushi/Sashimi and signature dishes on their menu and it was tough to make a decision on what to get. It all looked and sounded so good. The Oysters and Big Cream Mussels were an outstanding way to start off. Couple that with the Emerald City cocktail and we could see that we were really going to enjoy ourselves. We tried many different things: Cajun Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Wagyu, Mango Chilli Hirame, Garlic Albacore Roll were just some of the fantastic highlights on the menu and definitely worth trying. We did not have anything that wasn't delicious. I must include our server Ruby, who provided outstanding service and help and we asked questions and tried new things. Since it was our birthday, we also received a birthday dish for us to share with, ice cream on top of a brownie, a decadent chocolate cake as well as a delicious cheese cake all with a giant flaming candle on top! We ate here for my son's birthday and had the tasting menu. It was spectacular. Every dish was better than the last: truffled edamame, yuzu shishito peppers, yellowtail ceviche, truffle toro (melts in your mouth), maguro crispy rice, wagyu tacos, miso black cod and wagyu skirt steak. You also got to pick a signature role for each person, and because it was my son's birthday, they surprised us with a fourth role on the house. The Wagyu Shishito Roll and the toro roll were our favorites, but all 4 were outstanding. The breadpudding and brownie for dessert were great too. I was so excited to give this place a try because my husband and I were in need of a date night and Kaviar seemed to check all the boxes. It has more of an upscale club/lounge vibe than a traditional sushi restaurant with dimmed lights and modern decor. I liked the feel of the place, however, found the heavy bass beat of the music a bit loud to have any meaningful conversation without having to raise my voice. The people next to us were almost having to yell across the table to each other. Food: the sushi and sushi roll I ordered were beautifully presented and tasted fresh. Found it a bit pricey for just 2 pieces of salmon sushi, but the rolls are thankfully substantial. I was still hungry so I ordered the Sashimi Salad--I was anticipating beautiful slices of fish, like the slices of salmon sushi I had earlier on top of a bed of greens. Like churashi but without the rice. However, when the server brought it out, I was disappointed to see a mound of hacked cubes of stringy fish on top of spinach and mixed greens covered in dressing. Would not be surprised if these were the scraps from sushi cuts. The dish looked and tasted more like POKE than sashimi! The restaurant itself looks small, but they make great use of the high ceiling, dark wood foundation, and perfect romanticized lighting. Music plays quietly in the background so you're never shouting at your table. Despite the close seating, conversations aren't overlapped. The caviar is so buttery, rich, and smooth. I highly recommend it. It also comes with its own little show. If you want a sushi roll that has a spicy kick I recommend the spicy yellowtail escolar. Another exquisite dish is their miso glazed black cod. Each bite soft, flakey, and buttery. I'm salivating while reminiscing their dishes. Justin, the manager, was kind enough to stop by our table a couple times to check on us and chat. Gap, our server, recommended great selections on the menu and offered us the special: ivory salmon. I love the Hamachi Kama's crisp skin and with tender juicy meat that easily scraped off the cartilage with chopsticks. There severs were knowledgeable on the menus. They have some great tea options for the non drinkers (me). My group all loves their drinks and how pretty they came out. I came here after tasting their food at a Rolls Royce event where their master sushi roller made hand made rolls on site. I can't wait to come back. Some many photo opportunities here.
