quite literally the best sushi spot i've ever been to. my friend and i came for their dine la menu, and while their prefix price is high you get SO MUCH FOOD. you get every single item listed on the set menu, and the only choice you make is which roll (theres like 8 or so to choose from). also wanted to point out that we never felt like we were looked down upon or rushed because we were here for dine la; which is awesome cause i've found that this can sometimes be a problem with other places that are participating://. the food itself was incredibly impressive, and you can tell that the quality of their ingredients is sky effing high. our server david was so sweet and helpful; it never felt like we were waiting on anything for too long, and he was super helpful in recommending and explaining the roll choices for us. even the busser and other people helping throughout the meal were super personable and attentive. just all around great experience. they also give you heated towels to clean your hands towards the end of the meal ?? so awesome for our rolls we chose: amberjack bluefin tuna: 8/10, super fresh but a little too much wasabi for me (but i dont like wasabi lol) rockshrimp tempura: 9.5/10, amazinggg texture and the ratio from sushi to shrimp is fantastic. order a side of eel sauce for dipping and it's godly TLDR: come here immediately, great service and impressive food that is absolutely worth the price for what you get !!

This hidden upstairs restaurant is fun to walk too. You walk through other restaurants and shops to find all up stairs into a dark candle lit restaurant. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We had dinner here as a family and I only got a few pics but it was delicious! We ordered the Gyoza, Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, Crudo Tacos, Hamachi Crudo, Tuna Tartar and seared steak. I also tried a few of the featured cocktails. They were good but a little on the sweet side. This is a great spot for a date night. My kids also enjoyed the food.

Stopped by on Saturday, 03/21/26 for the first time during late din din time. Ordered the following: - 1 lychee mint martini = $23.00 - 1 sapporo = $9 - 1 garlic edamame = $13 - 1 crispy rice = $22 - 1 tuna nigiri (comes with 2) = $18 - 1 salmon nigiri (comes with 2) = $12 - 1 lemon sushi roll = $25 - 1 gojira cheesecake anniversary dessert = FREE SUBTOTAL = $122.00 TAX = $12.81 TIP = $27 OVERALL TOTAL = $161.81 Very dim inside but that's what make this place intimate and ideal for a nice date dinner night. I am giving a 4/5 since the price is way to overpriced. This is a luxurious, fine-dining restaurant so bring money!

I love Kaviar! It's honestly one of the best sushi place I have ever been to. The first time I came here was for Valentines Day/ Anniversary celebration and the servers made it very special :3 !! They gave every couple who ordered the valentine set a rose and they gave my bf and I a slice of cake with a huge sparkler (as our anniversary surprise). Each time we bit into our food, we said "mmmm so goooood." The ambiance was amazing as well!!

Kaviar Sushi in Pasadena is a solid spot..I've been a few times and the food is consistently good. The inside is pretty dark and cozy, so it's great if you're looking for a more low-key dinner vibe. They have these DIY hand-roll class (they do it every Thursday). It's fun and beginner-friendly..you learn the basics of sushi prep, make different hand rolls, and they also go over sushi types like nigiri vs. hand rolls plus a bit of the cultural background. $79 per person and it includes champagne, 5 hand rolls, and 3 appetizers. Overall, it's a great experience and I'd definitely go back both for dinner and the Thursday class.

Kaviar in Pasadena is a great option if you are looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience in the area. They offer caviar options, which add a nice fine-dining touch without limiting the experience to only omakase. The menu has plenty of options, from sushi and seafood to beautifully presented Japanese-inspired dishes. I have been here for both business dinners and to bring friends visiting from out of town, and it always feels like a good choice when you want something a little more special. Service is professional and attentive, and the pacing feels relaxed enough for a proper sit-down dinner. The ambience is definitely one of the highlights. I am a sucker for a good dining environment, and Kaviar has that stylish, polished, elevated feel that makes the meal more memorable. This is a solid Pasadena choice for refined food, great presentation, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere.

The perfect restaurant for a date night!! This was my second time at Kaviar. The atmosphere, service, and food were top tier quality. For the hot dishes, I highly recommend the uni pasta because the flavor was on a whole other level of amazing. It's one of their best sellers and I understand why. I also tried the hamachi kama and the portion was impressive. Although the flavor of the fish was bland on its own, the pickles, lemon, and provided soy sauce made for diverse flavors to savor the fish meat. The rolls were the stars. I tired a few, and my favorite was the toro (which had a subtle truffle flavor) and lemon (spicy and refreshingly sour). The amaebi goma roll was also delicious, and must be eaten on its own without soy sauce, otherwise the sweetness gets masked. The garlic albacore was good but a bit too similar to the lemon. Parking in this area of Pasadena often requires payment. I parked in a public garage for $10 for 2 hours. Overall, I had a fantastic meal here. I highly recommend folks to come visit.

After so many years, kaviar is still my fav spot for a quick girls night to catch up with my lovely friends. The atmosphere is nice without being over the top, making it perfect for both casual dinners and special nights. No matter how many places I try, I always find myself coming back here.

We finally decided to try Kaviar Restaurant after walking past it so many times whenever we're in Old Town Pasadena--and I'm glad we did. First impression: very cool, modern vibe right away. The ambience is dark, hip, and stylish, with jazzy music that really sets the mood. It feels lively and fun without being overwhelming, and definitely has that "special night out" energy. For food, we ordered the tartar, uni pasta, toro sashimi, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna crisp, plus a few additional sushi items. Overall, the food was good and well-executed, with fresh fish and nicely plated dishes. The uni pasta stood out as rich and indulgent, and the sashimi selections were clean and flavorful. That said, the prices are definitely on the high side. While the experience was fun and memorable, the cost makes this more of a special-occasion spot rather than somewhere we could come to regularly. All in all, we enjoyed our time here and would come back again for a celebration or night out--but it's not an everyday sushi place for us due to the price point.

Overall, this is a classy higher end japanese restaurant. Overall at night. The restaurant was Lightly lit, it would be a great place to take a date. Overall, I can't complain about the food. The price was at the higher end and a portions were a little bit small. But this is the niche that you fit into a higher end restaurant. The Japanese wagu steaks were great. The meat was so tender and it just melts in your mouth. The australian wagu had more meat for you to.Eat, but it was a little bit more rugged piece of meat.Overall, this steak was good as well. But of course, that doesn't match the thirty dollar, an ounce, wagyu beef from japan. The sushi was fresh and enjoyable.

I went to Kaviar for my birthday dinner on a Friday night and it was surprisingly empty. It might have been the fact that it was Black Friday and a holiday weekend, but I didn't mind it. Let me start my saying that it's a beautiful space. The ambiance is romantic and definitely a nice place for a celebration or a date. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by our host and also our server Narine, who was very friendly and attentive, and were immediately seated at our table. My boyfriend and I each got a cocktail. Mine was the Emerald city, and high came with a bit of a show. The server brought a rosemary and torched it to add smokiness to my glass, which was a bit over powering. The drink it self was sweet and delicious but wasn't a fan of the smoke flavor. My boyfriend ordered a shishito pepper drink which he enjoyed. Next, we ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice ($22) as a starter and 4 rolls. We ordered the spicy yellow tail, the amber jack and bluefin roll, Toro roll, and the waygu shishito roll. All priced between $29 and $40. Our favorites were the spicy yellow tail and the amberjack and bluefin roll. The toro tasted bland, and the waygu roll was nothing special for the price. I did receive a free dessert for my birthday, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a nice experience but not the best sushi.

I have to say I was a little skeptical about this place before I come, I thought this would be a fancy place with fancy looking food that don't taste good. So I ordered the caviar, because I thought the name had caviar in it so I had to order to try it, the waiter highly recommended too. I also got the Toro roll and the cod fish. I didn't have very high expectations for some reason, but Boy!, I was wrong, totally wrong, the food are so delicious! Like absolutely delicious, everything was good, like no complains! So definitely give it a try! Yes please!

Had such a lovely experience at Kaviar over the weekend. I ordered the Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, and Seared Albacore Sushi. My favorite was definitely the Seared Albacore Sushi. In addition, we ordered the Toro with Uni. This was also so delicious!! The Wagyu Shishito roll was decent. However, I wouldn't order this dish again. The Truffle Toro, Miso Glazed Black Cod, and Wagyu Striploin Steak were certainly the stars of the show. The fish flaked perfectly and the steak was so buttery. Everything was cooked to perfection. If you're looking to splurge a bit extra for dinner and are in the mood for sushi, please visit Kaviar! It's the perfect spot for an intimate dinner with friends or family.

I was pleasantly surprised when I sent an email to the address on the website and received a reply with the password in a little over thirty minutes. After parking, we didn't have any problems finding the entrance even though it is not marked. Look for the big wood double doors and doorman standing in front. After giving him the password, he opened the doors and we walked in. We were surprised in several ways. The place is way bigger than I would expect for a place named "The Speakeasy". And at 6:30pm on a Sunday, we were the only guests inside. Only one other couple came in during the 30 minutes we were there. I would assume they are a lot busier on Friday and Saturday night. It is dimly lit, and very red inside. The bar is large with many bottles of liquor on display and many seats. The rest of the space is one large area that must have at least 20 tables, and the ceiling is high. It gives off more of a nightclub vibe than a speakeasy vibe. I tried the Naked & Famous cocktail which has two of my favorite spirits (Vida mezcal, aperol, yellow Chartreuse, lime, $18). It was nicely balanced with a good mix of smoke and herbal flavor. She had the Pablo's Poison (Altos reposado tequila, strawberry, lime, jalapeno, elderflower, $17). The jalapeno flavor really stood out with strawberry and elderflower in the background. They have a good cocktail menu with almost twenty cocktails, as well as a food menu with ten items. Walk up to the bar to order your drinks. Jeremy, the manager, and the female bartender whose name who I didn't get were nice. We aren't in Pasadena very often, and while they have a good cocktail menu, I don't know if we would return. We started with the artisan bread as an appetizer, and then the sweet potato fries. The bread and butter was really good. The sweet potato fries were a solid choice almost got Brussels sprouts may do that next time. I was really considering the Wagyu beef stroganoff as well. . A co-worker had the spicy pasta and loved it. We were there celebrating a special occasion, a retirement celebration. . I ordered the rainbow trout top 5 I have had in a really lon time. They brought out a card for her retirement, which surprised her, and they provided a dessert too. The food, the service, and the experience were all five star. If you want to go somewhere for a special meal or to celebrate, Granville is a great choice. I definitely plan to come back. I picked my meal from looking at the Yelp pictures, not the menu. I posted a few pictures as well. great vibe speakng If I lived closer I would come more often. I hope you enjoy my pictures.

It was nice to get out of the summer heat into an air conditioned restaurant. What we ordered: Drinks (included with $25 dineLA prix-fixe) - Berry lemonade - non-refillable - Craft soda (cream soda) - refillable Appetizers - Grilled mushrooms - Farmhouse beets Entrees - Poke bowl - Pasta alla Vodka Dessert (gelato) - vanilla fleur de sel - dark chocolate - cherry almond chip The berry lemonade was salty. I wasn't expecting a salty drink. I had to wash it down with iced water. My friend enjoyed her agave vanilla cream soda. She gladly accepted a refill. The grilled mushrooms were nicely seasoned. We enjoyed the variety: oyster and trumpet mushrooms. The farmhouse beets were served with arugula, feta, candied pecans, and a lemon vinaigrette. These were nice starters. I ordered the poke bowl. The portion size was perfect for lunch. It contained tuna, soba noodles at the base, small cubes of mango & avocado, toasted coconut, red onion, basil, and sesame seeds. The ingredients were fresh and beautifully presented. The pasta alla vodka was slightly spicy. It consisted of "mezze maniche" or large tubular pasta, pungent pecorino cream, tomato, garlic, and shallots. It was topped with grated Parmesan cheese. This was a heavier entree. Each of us had one scoop of gelato. It was a nice finish to a pleasant Friday afternoon.

We ended up at Magnolia House for a late lunch/early dinner. They also serve breakfast/brunch only on weekends. Walked in around 4:30pm and we were greeted by Brian, one of the managers. Brian was the standout star of the whole experience! His energy was exceptional and he is such a great conversationalist. He checked on us several times throughout our meal and made sure we were doing well. He on his own was HANDS DOWN a five star human being. At first, he wanted to seat us in the back corner but I told him the table was too small and he accommodated us with a bigger table. Our server Kiana came up to the table with a pleasant smile and greeting to take our drink orders. I got a glass of cranberry juice along with some water. My son got the American Dream cocktail along with some water. We skipped on dessert. From 4-6pm, they have a happy hour menu with some of their cocktails and shareable plates. The portions are just a bit smaller and the prices are a little lower. It's a good way to sample different items. I think we got a good variety of food to enjoy. To start, we got the Little Gem Salad. It was such a unique combination of flavors and SUPER delicate/light. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The next starter was the Zucchini and Feta Fritters, which was good but not the best out of everything else we ordered. The zucchini was a bit mushy but the batter it was fried in was crispy. Another starter we shared were the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Wings. These wings are gigantic and very flavorful. They definitely pack some heat, so be careful. I don't think the A/C was NOT working to begin with, so the place was already hot. The wings made us sweat even more. For entrées, we got the burger and the pork belly. Brian said they are known for their burger and after taking the first bite, it's clear as to why. It was absolutely PERFRCTION. So delicious! The bun, the meat, the cheese, the onions, and the crispy bacon...all of it mixed together into the perfect burger. I had wanted to add some mushrooms and avocado to it, but Kiana said they were unable to do it. I also asked for lettuce and she said that would be an extra charge. What extra charge for lettuce? We still got charged for avocado when the bill came, but they took it off once we mentioned it. The pork belly was also very tender, flavorful, and crispy. It's just hard to compete with the burger! We also got an order of the Belgian Fries to share and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The fries are salty and cut pretty thick. The sauce that came on the side was so yummy. We asked for a small extra cup to-go. All in all, the food was great and we liked everything. The vibe of the restaurant wasn't really all that for me. Brian genuinely made up for anything that was lacking in the atmosphere. He is such a wonderful asset to the restaurant and their company. The restaurant itself has been here for about 15 years now and it used to be a very old house. You can tell when you look around. They did a good job with the renovations, but you can see the different areas/rooms. I think they tried to keep the casual comfort of a home, while making it a slightly elevated experience. It was very clean everywhere, especially the bathrooms. They have one gender neutral bathroom, one for men, and one for women. No private parking, so you'll have to park on the street and put money in the kiosk. They also had an outdoor seating. Pretty BIG, only took picture of one side. They also have 2 small TVs. In the bar area and inside their cute lounge. I normally like to try new places, especially when I'm in Pasadena, so I'm not sure if I'll come back here. Maybe if Brian is working, it would definitely be worth stopping by again! Thank you all..

Magnolia House was the place to go 10-12 years ago. But the last 3 times I've been here recently,…read moreit just really doesn't have the charm or class it used to have. Service is really really slow. You may see 5 or 6 waiters on staff...but they aren't stopping at tables to check up on guests. Alot of them are just hanging around the bar or front desk chitchatting with friends. The food quality dropped tremendously. It tastes like bland bar food now. $19 for 2 meatballs laying in tomato paste....and they were not even room temperature. Felt like they had these already prepared and sitting somewhere, just waiting for the next guest to order them. Got a mojito that may have been mistaken for a "virgin" drink....cause no one at our table could taste any alcohol in it. They all said it was watered down mint with ice. I wish this place would go back 10 years and make it like "the spot you want to go to"....versus the spot you now avoid.

This bar is tucked inside Vroman's Bookstore (already one of the most charming and iconic bookstores in the area) so the entire experience feels like stepping into a warm, literary universe. You can browse for a new book, take in the bookstore's atmosphere, and then walk straight into the bar. Honestly, it's the perfect outing. What makes 1894 truly special is how intentionally it celebrates literature. Everything in the bar pays homage to the bookstore. The drink menu is full of clever, book-inspired names. You'll find cocktails like Pride and PearJudice Pride, Fifty Shades of Earl Grey, and other fun literary twists. Every drink feels like a little wink to readers, writers, and book lovers, and it adds such a unique charm to the experience. The vibe is super quaint and warm, dim lighting, and a creative atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The wine is on the pricier side ($19-$21 per glass), but the quality delivers. Customer service was excellent. One of the bartenders spent time chatting with us. He pointed out a chalk artwork behind the bar a dramatic portrait he drew himself featuring expressive, literary-style faces, like Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, etc. It fits perfectly with the creative, bookish aesthetic of the bar. If you're into books, wine, and unique experiences, 1894 is a spot you absolutely can't miss. Perfect for a date, a solo unwind-with-a-book moment, or a fun night with friends who appreciate a good story and a great drink.
