This is a very fun location. We sat outside near the live music. Our server, William, was fantastic! I am a diabetic and have to be careful about my sugar intake. He was so kind to suggest a sugar-free Mojito that his bartender could make with a Key lime sauce. He then proceeded to give me another cup of a simple syrup that I could add to the drink just in case it was too tart. He recommended some delicious dishes and we were very happy. Pros: Love the location. Right off of Duval. Very convenient from anywhere you would ever be in Old Town. Ambiance inside was very islandy and chill. Beach yoga was on every single TV. Lol. Service was great. Our server was alone in the dining room and really busting her butt, but she did her best for us, and we appreciated it greatly. Food was surprisingly good. This was our first real dinner in town, and we were expecting tourist quality stuff, but no, this place had quality stuff! And pretty healthy portions. Cons: No real cons. Hope they hire more servers at some point. Tips: We had the pesto pasta, which was very good. And the Kahlua pork bowl was out of this world delicious. Came here one evening during our trip to Key West. According to my food finding algorithm, this was the best overall restaurant in Key West, so it was a no brainer, we had to check it out. Right on Duval, we walked in for a pretty early dinner, around 5PM, and we got seated immediately. We had a nice server who was fine on her own at 5PM, but they really need to bring someone in as the night gets busier. By the time we were done, she was serving like a dozen and a half tables. But she did a good job. We were very well taken care of. Ambiance was nice. Island vibes, as promised. And if you go exploring further back into the restaurant, you'll find that there is a large compound full of other rooms that do other things like pool and karaoke, it was wild. Lots of fun to be had here. As for the food, we started off the evening with Those Incredible Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings! (Goat Cheese /Jerk Sauce /Green Onion), and they were so unique and good. Wings were cooked to perfection, very crispy and juicy, and the thick sauce that was all over them was super fun. It's also a good idea to let people put as much sauce on their wings as they want, to help control the spice levels. Bravo. Next we moved onto the The Legendary Rasta Pasta (Macadamia Nut Jerk Pesto made with Hemp Oil, Jerk Seasoning, Macadamia Nuts, Garlic and Basil). A huge portion of pasta, very well coated in that subtle but delicious pesto. Couldn't really taste any hemp oil. Jerk seasoning provided a little heat, the nuts added in some good texture, and the basil added in a nice herbaciousness. It was just a lovely dish. My main event was the Hawaiian Kahula Pork (Slow Roasted in Banana Leaves with Guava Lava Sauce & Mango Pineapple Salsa). Very flavorful, tender pork, atop a massive bed of rice. Very good sweet sauce and salsa on top, not a lot of different textures, but that's ok, it was just so delicious. Dessert was some sort of coconut ice cream pie. Think divey sports bar with dark sticky bar counter and all. The positive- vegan vegetarian options. I was looking for a large salad so I ordered from the big kahuna salads section on the menu. Asked for the dressing on the side. I was given the dressing on the side but they withheld all the fixings from the salad as well. Basically was served minimal greens with some grilled shrimp on top the grill pineapple, toasted coconut and the green onions were missing. Once I pointed it out the bartender did bring over a plate with the missing items. Blackened Fish tacos were ordered as well. Overall it was rather tasteless. While looking for a place to eat on our first day in Key West we wandered into Kaya and had an amazing time! Laid back island vibe and great service was a nice way to start our trip.   The variety of specialty cocktails provided choices for everyone. Our server brought us a sample of their house Mai Tai before we ordered our drinks. It was delicious and 3 of us ordered the Mai Tai.  We started with their conch fritters and coconut shrimp-both good.  For main courses, we had the grilled Mahi Mahi tacos - cooked perfectly and topped with a tasty creamy corn salsa. The Baby Beach burgers were very good. The highlight of the orders was the Cuban Style Roast Pork! Delicious and full of flavor. The rice/beans/sweet plantains that accompanied the pork were equally delicious.  A great stop for good eats! read more

Overall Kaya is great! So good that we came twice during our stay. First we had jerk chicken wings and the key like snapper. Both were amazing, so we came back a second time. We tried the coconut shrimp, jerk chicken , and coconut/macadamia fish, which was disappointing. The Mahi Mahi was overcooked, dry, and tough. And they just covered it with a ton of sauce. Located on Duval St, this place has different areas: outdoor seating; indoor with a bar; a game area with billiards pool, foosball, crane claw machine, etc; and a room with a stage for performances. Razvan was working the bar and also took care of the tables in front of the bar. He was very friendly, funny and gave us recommendations. Our appetizer, the Bang bang fish, arrived after our entrees came. It is bite-sized pan fried mahi mahi with chili sauce. Hawaiian Kahlua pork and Macadamia/coconut catch were fine. Wow!! I am so impressed with this place. To be honest, when walking in, I had lowered my expectations just a tad, but I was wrong to do so. Their service was spectacular and their food was top notch. Every single plate that walked past us looking delicious. We started with an order of Conch Fritters. Came out hot! I'm personally not a fan of seafood, so I had a small nibble of it and even I thought it was good. My husband said it was one of the best he's had in a long, long time. I ordered the chicken sandwich for my main. Their mango salsa was so fresh! The pineapple was also fresh and delicious. Finally, we finished with their Key Lime Pie. Not too sweet, not too tart. My family has been coming to Kaya since it was located down on Sugarloaf Key next to Baby's Coffee, when I was a little kid! Let me tell you - this food has always been INSANE. The portions are large, the taste is incredible, this is not only my fav restaurant in Key West but truly my fav restaurant ever. This newer location has a combo of indoor and outdoor seating, live music, karaoke, this spot is truly an experience in itself but also multiple experiences. Kinda hidden down duval street, and once you step inside and walk down, you realize just how big it is. The owner Scott is great, always catering to his guests and ensuring every meal and experience is great. They just opened up 2 more restaurants in Key West too - I need to check those out next time. As a vegetarian, they have lots of veg options and even tofu. Vegan options too. Lots and lots of island style fish and meats. I was really looking forward to trying Kaya after it was recommended to us, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. It was a Friday night, they were not overly busy. The first impression wasn't great. The hostess lacked any warmth or communication--she simply asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and when we said outside, she just walked away without a word. No "follow me," no direction... just awkward and unprofessional. Our server, CQ, didn't improve things. She came across as unfriendly and disengaged. At one point, she was standing near our table having a conversation with a young child in the back while we were seated right by the door. It felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. Even worse, she never came back to check on us throughout the meal. The food had potential. I ordered the mahi tacos, and while the flavor was actually amazing--light, fresh, and flaky--they were so wet that I couldn't even pick them up. I had to eat them with a fork, which completely took away from the experience. What was most frustrating was the lack of care. When I mentioned the issues, there was no effort to make things right--just indifference and walking away. Great atmosphere location, ambience. Overall, I had much higher expectations. It's truly sad that being on Duval Street will likely keep bringing in tourists, but we will not be back, nor will we be recommending Kaya. read more

Texture, savory seasoning, complimentary sauce all hit the spot. Crispy outside, with a grainy soft inside. Dip it in the sauce for some savory creaminess. Fish and chips: very crispy outside. Tastes good with dips. Came with fries that were crispy and seasoned. Bbq jack fruit plate : came with rice and pineapple, the bbq sauce tasted great. The jackfruit texture was overly soft. This is a place that's connected as three other places - Empourium and the Backyard Bar, as well as Kaya. Lots of seating. There's a bar area, tables with chairs, and picnic tables. There's live entertainment and even a magician/mentalist that visits tables and is pretty amazing. The drinks were good. Skip the espresso martini. All the others were great. The food selection is good. There's lots of fresh seafood options, as well as burgers, salads, and other items. Lots of delicious combinations of ingredients. Nothing we had was bad. They were slammed when we went and were having a hard time keeping up. However, Alex who was our server was beyond amazing!!!! He was doing it all. Not only was he serving tables, he was also the bartender (serving tables in that area and guests at the bar), bussing tables, and just zooming about making sure everyone was taken care of. He was so good that we made sure to mention it to management. He really needs a raise! Anyone else may have walked out without having more help. We enjoyed our meal here tonight! This place is huge! We sat out in what seamed like an old alley which seamed much calmer than the other parts. We tried three different cocktails that we enjoyed! They are large and had a good mix of flavors and booz ;-) For food, we started with the jerk wings and thought they were great. Good mix of spices and the sauce was good enough to eat on its own. For our mains we had the fish tacos and Cuban roast pork. Lots of great flavors in both dishes. The tacos had a good portion of fish, nice slaw, and great sauce! Probably the only issue was the tortilla which seemed raw and could have used more time on the flat top. The pork was excellent and really enough for two people. What great flavors overall. Short walk from the ship - yes here on a cruise. I know there is plenty of food on the ship but wanted some local favorites eats and Kaya came up as a good place to go on Yelp. You can rent a boat and go for fishing. If you catch the fish they clean it for you and you can bring your fish to Kaya Island Eats to cook it for you. Hidden gem that is HUGE with multi areas. Duval Street entrance is inside with TVs. Game room is next with both arcade and table games like foosball. Shaded outdoor areas then follow on the left (locals area) and right (live music and karaoke area). The food is top notch, especially for the price in Key West. The cocktails were the best we've had and the bartender, who also took our table order, was over the top excellent with how he made the drinks and took care of us throughout. Easy 5 star service. I had the Killer Fish Tacos $17.00, which is a Half Pound of Mahi Mahi with Key Lime Slaw & Mango/ Pineapple Salsa. The slaw was a very small pile, but they also added a few quarter pieces of pineapple with toasted coconut. Everything was tasty and the quantity was good. read more
