Great coffee, the little shop is full of locals , local wares and great coffee , and pastries. I was too full to eat and of them though. Staff and service is super friendly even when you almost take the wrong coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really appreciated the loose fun vibe here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you want what feels like "real" local coffee shop on the big island this is the place. Glad we found it

I had Kaya's on my list to visit since before we even left the mainland, but alas, family was driving us around most of the time so we didn't get to visit until the day we had to leave. I regret not going sooner! [[HIGHLIGHT]]What a charming place! It was like a gluten free wonderland, and the coffee was excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew from reviews that I would have GF options, but didn't realize that I'd be able to eat almost anything there. I had a piece of quiche (all four quiche options were GF), blueberry scone, butter mochi, and a S'mores brownie. The crust on the quiche was so flaky and perfect, my bf and I were blown away that it was actually GF. Scone was yummy too. Didn't eat the brownie or mochi until the next day and they were still fantastic. I wanted to buy almost everything in the case, but alas, it would not all fit in my suitcase. They also have a great selection of unique gifts including handmade jewelry, clothing, dried fruits, coffee beans, etc. We bought a really special Kona coffee (a Geisha) and have been enjoying it at home. If only we could have something as magical as Kaya's at home... oh well, guess we'll have to fly back to Kona again soon. And next time I'll be at Kaya's every morning, lol.

5/5 Stars, I would literally pick up my entire life, move to Hawaii, and seek to stop all resort expansion in spirit of keeping places like this alive. The vanilla syrup is made in house, the food is amazing and would highly recommend this to anyone who loves coffee.

We visited Kaya's every morning we were on the Big Island. The coffee was delicious, I got an oat milk latte with an add shot and 3 pumps of vanilla. Their vanilla is less sweet, it was so good! Also got a different quiche each day and all were delicious. We also tried the pumpkin chocolate granola bar, the blueberry scones and the smores brownies, again, ALL delicious!! Next time we are on the island we will be back!!!

Customer service was right on point this morning, the gal that helped us really displayed Aloha. She greeted us with a nice smile and very helpful, she may have been the owner by the looks of it, she was really nice. Greeted with Aloha ended with Mahalo. We ordered a s'more granola bar, avocado toast and the daily eggplant, onion and parm quiche and the taste was delicious. The crust was flakey and baked well. I hope this business makes it because it was really good.

The location is easy to find, right off the road with their own parking. I also ordered a sourdough veggie sandwich, really good 5/5. I highly recommend stopping here. It's organic and refreshing!

This has become one of my top favorite cafe around Hawai'i! They have a variety of organic, gluten-free and dairy-free goodies for people with dietary restrictions, and not only that, but their food is actually pretty good. It was popping during my last two visits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Like most cafes, ordering is done at the counter, and whenever your name is called, you pick up your goods. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of small tables around for small parties. It's quite cute how their tables are scattered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Today, my partner got 1) Quiche and 2) Mamaki Tea. For myself, I went for 3) Avocado toast, but on an everything bagel, 4) Matcha latte with almond milk, and we shared a 5) Lavender chocolate scone. I really like how they don't charge extra for milk substitutions as I think it's more inclusive of people with dietary restrictions. The lavender chocolate scone was light, but also rich. Although I don't feel like I got much lavender flavor, the chocolate wasn't too sweet, which is great. I had their mango dragon fruit scone yesterday and it was also light, but such a delicious scone, I just had to give a different scone flavor a try today. Their scones have more of a fluffy texture than a buttery one, which I liked a lot! As for their avocado toast, it looks plain, but it don't let that deceive you because it tasted amazing! I think they may have applied some butter to it before adding the creamy avocado on top, so it was pretty savory. The everything bagel adds a nice savory taste to it as well. As for their Matcha latte, it was pretty good! It definitely had more Matcha taste to it than milk, so I'm glad it didn't taste diluted. The matcha was a nice morning pick-me-up drink. So happy I found this cafe nearby! Their service is super friendly and nice as well, so do stop by here if you get the chance and support this business!

We came here nearly every morning for coffee as our family was vacationing at Big Island. This was one of the few places open early for people like us adjusting from pacific time zone. Ordered the same thing everyday: 2 regular coffees black, 1 iced vanilla late, and 1 iced matcha latte with soy and shot of vanilla. I saw the barista grinding the matcha. It was really good. The family raved about the taste so I ended up going at almost every morning. It was easily accessible off the main hwy and quick in and out. Kaya's is a popular spot that has good ratings on google and yelp. We follow the trend to see if the ratings are true and see what experiences we can make. I like the rustic feel. Inside, you can tell this building has been around for a while with collections of books, stickers and art work. Also feels very Bohemian and I like it. It's called Kaya's coffee but they serve more than coffee. They serve organic and healthy food. We got a sourdough sandwich with sprouts, avocado, tomato, and egg. It tasted healthy and good. I think it's a good brunch item and keeps it light. Iced coffee wasn't bad! Good stop if you're traveling south along the coffee belt

Didn't bother with this place because none of the staff or customers were wearing masks and it was extremely crowded. Got weird looks from a patron because we were wearing masks. The law is the law and this place obviously doesn't care about following public health mandates. I took my business elsewhere. Do not support this place. read more

Thank goodness this coffee shop is opened later than 2-3pm. Most coffee shops on the island close super early! Kaya closes at 6pm daily. We need our afternoon pick me up pretty please! Ordered an iced coconut latte and a macademia nut latte. Both were excellent choices. Extensive coffee menu and they have a small amount of varieties of pastries too. Part of the coffee shop sells local (?) merchandise. It looks old and dusty so I quickly browsed through it. Lots of lotions, sprays, soaps etc. I also seen some children books as well. read more

Plenty of Vegetarian & Vegan options! Kaya's quiche is well worth our long drive plus the 30 minute wait time!! It was so creamy and delicious! Besides the quiche, we also tried their black bean burger and veggie sandwich. Both tasted so good and so fresh! Their case of baked goodies is a snacker's paradise! We tried their GF granola bars and they were sublime! My friend got their cardamom rose mocha and said it was the best coffee he'd ever had! Their build-your-own smoothie is such a fun and refreshing experience, so are their on-the-tap kombuchas! The cafe is small with just a single table outdoors. They have shelves along the walls lined with interesting local handmade stuff. They seem to get very busy during brunch hours so I recommend placing an online order and picking up the food to have a nice picnic on a beach! read more

THE best vegan and gluten-free desserts I've had anywhere (and I'm a connoisseur of them :D). This is a business that uses locally grown food and actively supports the community. I'm a coffee snob and LOVE THIS COFFEE!! Once I discovered this shop on a short trip from Seattle, no other coffee places had a chance! It's also filled with locals which is always a good sign. It's not just the rich taste of and expertly-steamed and decorated lattes that make this gathering place a natural anti-depressant--it's the ever-friendly, energetic, sweet and helpful staff that help make this place spectacular. If there is a line of people waiting outside the door, DON'T be deterred! I hate waiting in line but the only thing worse is NOT getting to taste their delicious fresh food, juices, coffee and pastries. Sunlight streams into every corner of this clean and bright room. Everywhere you look you see beautiful art, ceramics, jewelry, and more. No, I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning so I have another excuse to go back. read more

Ambiance is nice and many locals recommend it. Just be aware that it's an all organic shop. Was not a hit with the kids as they are too used to typical peanut butter, hot chocolate, etc. I thought the egg, cheese and bacon bagel was delicious. I also loved the hot chocolate. So, it's all up to the individual. They have toys, books and lots you can purchase there. To a of parking although it's pretty busy at all times of the day. If you love organic, this is your spot. read more

Kayas is the vibe and everybody knows it. Great service, community based staff who cares. Their gluten free scones are super addictive! We were visiting Kona and found ourselves going back every morning of our trip. I love their matcha latte. I ordered Lavender cardamom latte with whole milk. It had the perfect level of "bitterness" of the lavender. Coffee was amazing. Wish they had more such interesting flavors. Nevertheless definitely coming back to try more of their offerings. read more

Poor service. Just OK food. Not sure if this is due to being overwhelmed with business with things reopening after CoVID. Cashier was rude, wore her mask as a chin guard, & messed up the order. The "da foster" was overpriced and just ok (by the way, there was no jalapeño flavor whatsoever). Coffee was cheap, but not as smooth as other Kona coffee on the island. read more

Stopped here for a very quick breakfast. They have a parking lot with quite a few parking spaces and we did not have issues finding a spot. The indoors were quite busy and we sat on 1 out of the 2 outdoor seating tables they have, which are in the shade so we were able to sit there even though it was raining. They have quite great options for coffee, smoothies and few options for bagels, sandwiches. One can also build their own bagels or sandwiches - that's the option we went for and ordered an everything bagel and a poppy bagel with choices of veggies, spread and meat we liked. The service was fairly quick, took 10ish minutes for food to arrive. We enjoyed both the bagels, they were fresh and well seasoned. read more

Don't miss this Hawaii classic vegetarian hippie cafe. Fun vibe, super friendly staff and vegan twists on classic sandwiches. I had Kaya's bean burger. Nothing remarkable about it except the price. $11.30 for two smallish pieces of tasty bread with a little veganaise, lettuce, tomato and avocado, with beans tucked between them. Be warned, the "little" mentioned in the last sentence, applies to all the ingredients. Loved the kombucha on tap! Definitely a fave on this trip. Great assortment of sweet treats and looked delicious but I didn't get to taste. Come here for solid, tasty veggie based local cafe experience. Don't come looking for a hearty meal. Come for vibe, simple deliciousness and aloha style. I'll be back! read more

Usually really like coming here because the staff is *usually* super friendly and the coffee's great, but miss girl at the register was giving so much attitude because she forgot to give us our food. It wasn't a big deal we weren't mad, but the attitude, rolling eyes, and back handed jokes were odd...it's not that serious. She was complaining about Yelp reviews made about her before we even ordered to another customer/friend that had already finished ordering...girl, maybe do that outside of work...... read more

Please be careful consuming any food or drinks here made with produce. I was with my friend when she found a HUGE caterpillar in the lettuce of her sandwich. If they washed their produce they wouldn't have missed it. We are terrified of contracting Rat Lungworm which is a parasite common on the big island spread by the snails, slugs, etc in their slime that crawl over produce grown here. It can leave life long debilitating issues to those who survive it. Please be careful eating any produce (especially greens) grown locally. read more

Amazing, cute, eclectic, artsy coffee shop with awesome healthy choices like vegan pastries & sugar-free cacao options for mochas (they have regular mochas too). My only issue is that the coffee is hella strong. I got a mocha twice now, and both times, I was SUPER uncomfortably wired for a couple of hours afterwards. I don't know if that's normal here, but maybe try 1 espresso (vs the default of 2), or half decaf. read more

Having dietary restrictions can be challenging. Finding yummy food places to accommodate diet restrictions can be even more challenging. Kaya's does not disappoint. They have absolutely delicious options from brownies, scones, sandwiches, cookies, etc. Every chance I get my husband & I stop there for some delicious treats. You must try this place for yourself. read more

This is a gluten free paradise! I went back multiple times on my visit to Kona - I tried three different types of quiche which all had tender flakey crusts, the lemon bar which also had a great crust, s'mores granola bar (yum!), haupia chocolate raspberry pie (delish), a savory scone and blueberry scones. It's rare to find a place that has that many gluten free options and doesn't taste gluten free! This will be my go to on my future visits! Plus everyone who worked there was really friendly and helpful. read more

I go here a lot, so when I saw a less than flattering review, I had to add my 2cents... The. Coffee is very good Kona drip. The bakery is so called vegan ...but guess what? So is an Oreo cookie! So, if it tastes good, eat it Real locals come here, lots of farm workers, hippy types and happy people. Free, fast wi-fi Dog friendly porch. And you know when a place is hopping and without a view...it Bono! Go here. read more

I cannot express how much I love this place! Gluten free Heaven with laid back island vibes! And Aloha welcoming spirit.. What more can I say??? Ok, the coffee was fantastic, we had a breve and a oat-milk latte soooo perfect! The I proceeded to order every scone they had delish!!! The gluten-free ganache toasted coconut brownie just melts in the mouth.. and the quiche we should of asked for it heated.. but it was amazing even cold!!! We will be back! read more

I love to visit this place when I'm in town. I make sure to stop by every day. It's a bit pricey ($29 for a breakfast sandwich and latte after tip). I love all the fresh baked goods and different options each time I come in. I also love the coffee ice cubes for cold coffee drinks. My smallish complaint is that they don't put enough ice. 4/5 cubes isn't enough to even get the drinks cold. Usually my drink is Luke warm before I'm done. read more

The food here is good, and it's a fine place to eat. The inside of the cafe is super cute, and they have lots of fun things on the shelves. My primary complaint is the price and portions sizes. I ordered the black bean burger and a kale salad and a soup and I was still super hungry after because it was all so small! And it was collectively 25+ dollars. Not the most worth it in my opinion. read more

Just ordered a smoothie, scone and iced coffee here while passing through. Loved the shop. The coffee is delicious and the scone was incredible! I definitely plan to stop here again next time I pass this way. Only downside was the smoothie was a little too thick and not very cold, we just like them a very specific way. I liked the smoothie but my wife said it was just okay to her. read more

Amazing food and coffee! They have a ton of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Their baked goods all look delicious. I had a quiche - which was probably the best quiche I've ever had. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

The experience is focused on learning about how Kona coffee is grown and processed, touring the farm, and sampling their coffees. Our tour was about an hour, and we had such an amazing time. Our guide was a woman whose name I believe was Leilani (possibly Lenny or Lee), and she was absolutely adorable -- especially walking around in her cowboy boots! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who visits. Because of a major storm in May, the farm had suffered significant damage, including losing a bridge, so we received a modified tour. Even with the changes, we learned so much about the coffee-growing and production process, and it was fascinating to see everything firsthand. Hearing about the damage they experienced also gave us an even greater appreciation for the farm and what they've been working through. The tour is outdoors and seems appropriate for a wide range of ages. We happened to have a cloudy morning, so the weather was perfect for walking around the farm without getting too hot. Parking was easy and available right on site. A little tip: Wear comfortable sneakers and make sure you have good balance. There are some areas of the farm with gentle inclines and declines, so it's not completely flat. Since the bridge was out, there was also less walking than there normally would be. And of course, the coffee sampling was such a fun part of the experience! If you're visiting the Big Island and want to learn more about authentic Kona coffee rather than just buying a bag at a store, I highly recommend putting Greenwell Farms on your itinerary. NO STARS. The rudest and most racist service we have ever experienced in Hawai'i. Racist because we observed they certainly didn't talk to any of their white customers this way and we're immediately rude to us without any reason - a stark difference from how they spoke to their Haole customers. The Haole girls first treated the elder we were with such rudeness telling her to get to the back of the line when she was simply asking how much an oil costs as she was picking up her coffee order at the counter. Our elder had to walk away as she did not want to do the emotional labor needed at that moment. And note, she did not want to buy that oil there and give any more money to this establishment, Then after waiting 15 min for our quiche - they gave us the wrong quiche - COLD and NOT in a TO GO as ordered - and said oh we're out of the one you ordered. After I just saw a man who ordered AFTER US get the last quiche we ordered. Instead of gracefully apologizing and normally sayin - oh here's the quiche on the house and we can refund you for the wait - she refunded us and then put these heated and then now cold quiches back on the counter uncovered where everyone passes by it in line - pretty unsanitary. I thought she was handing it to me to take so I confirmed. And she said - she being the OWNER (I find out after calling to share my experience and her not caring at all) - um I already refunded you! Why would I give you the quiche for free Just because of a 15 min misunderstanding. but whatever TAKE THE QUICHE. I said not thanks and walked away. These rude micro aggressions and disrespect of locals and ELDERS - is the reason we will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. And not only that, we will tell our communities and the friends and clients we have brought there that this place is RACIST and undeserving of our money and patronage.
