Great coffee, the little shop is full of locals , local wares and great coffee , and pastries. I was too full to eat and of them though. Staff and service is super friendly even when you almost take the wrong coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really appreciated the loose fun vibe here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you want what feels like "real" local coffee shop on the big island this is the place. Glad we found it

I had Kaya's on my list to visit since before we even left the mainland, but alas, family was driving us around most of the time so we didn't get to visit until the day we had to leave. I regret not going sooner! [[HIGHLIGHT]]What a charming place! It was like a gluten free wonderland, and the coffee was excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew from reviews that I would have GF options, but didn't realize that I'd be able to eat almost anything there. I had a piece of quiche (all four quiche options were GF), blueberry scone, butter mochi, and a S'mores brownie. The crust on the quiche was so flaky and perfect, my bf and I were blown away that it was actually GF. Scone was yummy too. Didn't eat the brownie or mochi until the next day and they were still fantastic. I wanted to buy almost everything in the case, but alas, it would not all fit in my suitcase. They also have a great selection of unique gifts including handmade jewelry, clothing, dried fruits, coffee beans, etc. We bought a really special Kona coffee (a Geisha) and have been enjoying it at home. If only we could have something as magical as Kaya's at home... oh well, guess we'll have to fly back to Kona again soon. And next time I'll be at Kaya's every morning, lol.

5/5 Stars, I would literally pick up my entire life, move to Hawaii, and seek to stop all resort expansion in spirit of keeping places like this alive. The vanilla syrup is made in house, the food is amazing and would highly recommend this to anyone who loves coffee.

We visited Kaya's every morning we were on the Big Island. The coffee was delicious, I got an oat milk latte with an add shot and 3 pumps of vanilla. Their vanilla is less sweet, it was so good! Also got a different quiche each day and all were delicious. We also tried the pumpkin chocolate granola bar, the blueberry scones and the smores brownies, again, ALL delicious!! Next time we are on the island we will be back!!!

Customer service was right on point this morning, the gal that helped us really displayed Aloha. She greeted us with a nice smile and very helpful, she may have been the owner by the looks of it, she was really nice. Greeted with Aloha ended with Mahalo. We ordered a s'more granola bar, avocado toast and the daily eggplant, onion and parm quiche and the taste was delicious. The crust was flakey and baked well. I hope this business makes it because it was really good.

The location is easy to find, right off the road with their own parking. I also ordered a sourdough veggie sandwich, really good 5/5. I highly recommend stopping here. It's organic and refreshing!

This has become one of my top favorite cafe around Hawai'i! They have a variety of organic, gluten-free and dairy-free goodies for people with dietary restrictions, and not only that, but their food is actually pretty good. For myself, I went for 3) Avocado toast, but on an everything bagel, 4) Matcha latte with almond milk, and we shared a 5) Lavender chocolate scone. I really like how they don't charge extra for milk substitutions as I think it's more inclusive of people with dietary restrictions. The lavender chocolate scone was light, but also rich. Although I don't feel like I got much lavender flavor, the chocolate wasn't too sweet, which is great. I had their mango dragon fruit scone yesterday and it was also light, but such a delicious scone, I just had to give a different scone flavor a try today. Their scones have more of a fluffy texture than a buttery one, which I liked a lot! As for their avocado toast, it looks plain, but it don't let that deceive you because it tasted amazing! I think they may have applied some butter to it before adding the creamy avocado on top, so it was pretty savory. The everything bagel adds a nice savory taste to it as well. As for their Matcha latte, it was pretty good! It definitely had more Matcha taste to it than milk, so I'm glad it didn't taste diluted. The matcha was a nice morning pick-me-up drink. So happy I found this cafe nearby! Their service is super friendly and nice as well, so do stop by here if you get the chance and support this business!

We came here nearly every morning for coffee as our family was vacationing at Big Island. This was one of the few places open early for people like us adjusting from pacific time zone. Ordered the same thing everyday: 2 regular coffees black, 1 iced vanilla late, and 1 iced matcha latte with soy and shot of vanilla. I saw the barista grinding the matcha. It was really good. The family raved about the taste so I ended up going at almost every morning. It was easily accessible off the main hwy and quick in and out. Kaya's is a popular spot that has good ratings on google and yelp. We follow the trend to see if the ratings are true and see what experiences we can make. I like the rustic feel. Inside, you can tell this building has been around for a while with collections of books, stickers and art work. Also feels very Bohemian and I like it. It's called Kaya's coffee but they serve more than coffee. They serve organic and healthy food. We got a sourdough sandwich with sprouts, avocado, tomato, and egg. It tasted healthy and good. I think it's a good brunch item and keeps it light. Iced coffee wasn't bad! Good stop if you're traveling south along the coffee belt

I am not sure if this place is THE BEST, but it's definitely good. The coffee was tasty and well-made. The bagel sandwich was tasty, if messy. The vegan pastry was a miss for me--there's something about having butter in a cinnamon roll that seems to be required. At least, for my taste buds. I stopped there because it was open, and it was on my way. I'm glad I did, because it was pretty good, but I probably won't go out of my way to go there again. I might stop if I'm going past, though. read more

Loved it so much we went back for a second time during our week here! The lavender cardamom mocha is spectacular. The gluten free options are very helpful and everything we tasted was super delicious. We'd go back again if we had more time and will be back when we visit the island again! read more

I've been going to Kaya's for 6 plus years...it's always been a favorite, gluten free goodies and delicious organic coffee and tea. I like the funky old building vibe and the employees have always been nice. So I was shocked when I went a few days ago to discover an employee wearing NO MASK, no Sign asking people to wear a mask!! I went in with my 73 year old immune compromised mother and this made her very uneasy. The barista was also not very friendly and her drinks were not hot enough. Do they NOT CARE? How are they getting away with this? Also, the bathroom was so dirty, trash and a very filthy toilet. In the middle of a pandemic you'd think this business would step up theirs game on cleanliness and giving a crap. I don't feel comfortable going to this business. read more

If you want to step into a dirty hippie looking café This is the place. What irks me the most is the fact that they keep all their pastry sitting uncovered on top of the counter and even after writing to the owner several times They're still doing it. People are standing on top of it talking and spreading germs and I don't even think that it is allowed from the department of health! I tried a couple of scones ones and they were very dry so I hope that they changed the recipe And your staff always seems to be in a hurry. I gave this place a try a couple of times hoping that they would fix the pastry issue but still haven't done it So I will definitely not go back there anymore. So if you want flies on your pastry and spittle please have one. read more

Drink were okay, not the food. I mean I guess it's avocado toast in the literal sense of avocados on bread.. but that's as close as it gets to being an "avocado toast". Was hard to eat and not appetizing at all, disappointing especially for the price and wait time. read more

Kaya's is an awesome spot to stop and get some tasty plant based food for the road. I built my own sandwich and tried the vegan gluten free focaccia (which is an extremely rare combo). The sandwich was fresh and the cashew pate was unique and tasty. I also got the brownie which was decadent and delicious. I've had a hard time finding good vegan brownies and this is the best I've had so far. Would definitely recommend Kaya's! read more

This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Kona.. An all vegetarian place with laid back env... It was good place to have a simple and quick breakfast... We stopped here on our way back to Volcano National Park. The coffee was exceptional and they make coffee iced cubes. The service was wonderful and the girls working were very pleasant. The inside of the store was very cute with different locally made items from the island. read more

Since we moved to the island, I've been here a handful or two of times. I won't be back. I can understand the painfully slow service, and often being out of items...but, I can't abide the rude attitudes of the staff. They totally messed up my order this morning, and when I politely and patiently waited in line again to let them know-The cashier said that I was the one who was mistaken. (I wasn't) If you see a line when you arrive-run! Or be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting for your food. Maybe they think I'm a tourist because I don't go there often, and that's why the attitude. I'm out. read more

Very nice local cafe. All the coffee beverages are a 5. The pesto cream cheese from the Pete's special is unique. The banana berry granola bar is pretty decent. You can also purchase stickers, jewelry & CBD oil. This place rocks! read more

I was so excited to find this place. Went 3 times while in Kona for 10 days. Loved the bagel and vegan cream cheese options. Had a great soy latte one day. The TLT (tempeh bacon) sandwich was so fresh and yummy on the sprouted grain bread. The strawberry dragonfruit and the blueberry scones were also amazing. Reasonably priced, friendly service and lots of really neat local makers have items for sale on the shelves. Would definitely recommend it if you're staying in Kona and want a spot for good, clean quality food. read more

This is a great coffee shop, especially for the gluten free and organic pastry/food choices. They make their own in house syrups. I've heard a lot about how good their special syrups, but must have come on a off week because they didn't have any syrups when I visited for a week. Their coffee is the usual price, but they're food is a bit more expensive. read more

My favorite place on island so far! So many vegan gluten free options! I wish I could have tried them all! I had Da Emma with vegan cheese (not melted) on what seemed to be homemade gf toast. So ono!!! Everything here seems super fresh and made to order. Cool vibe and relaxed crowd. Bathroom access outside. I didn't have coffee as they don't have stevia, but hubby did and said it was very yummy (and he is a coffee snob.) He also got a lazy sumoa but is saving it for later (not sure how - it looks so good!) Staff is very knowledgeable on ingredients and willing to accommodate. Very much appreciate this place!! Used to be my favorite place until today, first time we let it go because a girl had an attitude when asking about the food ingredientes, this was like a year ago. We came back and we love the food until I found a black hair on mi quiche and the girls didn't do anything besides saying -ok I'll let them know, after I left they starting laughing. Maybe it wasn't because of me, but it felt a little rude. Second my husband ordered the food for us, we were a big kinda of party so there was some confusion among us plus we were wearing mask, we took one smoothie which we thought belonged to our party but it wasn't however it was called in with our order, anyways. The girl making the drinks started to give us a strong look while we were eating which made us pretty uncomfortable we didn't know what's up. We took some stickers and went to pay, when we were in cashier, she told me, excuse me but you didn't Pay for that smoothie. After expending like 100$ with our whole party maybe more. Why we would want to sneak or steal a smoothie? She could come to our table and just letting us know nicely. She jumped to conclusions and gave me attitude. When our order was called in, 2 smoothies came together which made us assumed it was with our party. We loved the food and quality ingredients but after the customer service we had today, we used to be repeat customers and spend at least 50$ each visit. After today never again. Kayas owner, please if you read this keep an eye on your staff maybe some customer service training should be add it. read more

Their coffee is good. But their service is sub par. We had five or six people ahead of our party. There was one barista behind the counter doing the best she could. The other barista was busy unloading a food shipment, barefoot with no mask on. We waited in line for close to half an hour and then another forty minutes for food. The counters were covered with gecko poop. Their quiches were sitting out of the fridge with flies flying around. I used to come here all the time when I lived close by, I won't ever be coming back read more

Yes in every way to this spot. Super low key, the over night oats are outta site! Coffee and kombucha are absolute tops! We had the seasonal berry scone and their blueberry scone. Both were great. My husband also got a sandwich here which he said was great. We came here twice on our visit, if it was closer to where we were staying we would have come here every day. read more

They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

An Amazing Kona Coffee Experience…read more Greenwell Farms was one of the highlights of our Big Island trip! This is a coffee farm and tour experience, so just to clarify, they do not serve food here. The experience is focused on learning about how Kona coffee is grown and processed, touring the farm, and sampling their coffees. Our tour was about an hour, and we had such an amazing time. Our guide was a woman whose name I believe was Leilani (possibly Lenny or Lee), and she was absolutely adorable -- especially walking around in her cowboy boots! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who visits. Because of a major storm in May, the farm had suffered significant damage, including losing a bridge, so we received a modified tour. Even with the changes, we learned so much about the coffee-growing and production process, and it was fascinating to see everything firsthand. Hearing about the damage they experienced also gave us an even greater appreciation for the farm and what they've been working through. The tour is outdoors and seems appropriate for a wide range of ages. We happened to have a cloudy morning, so the weather was perfect for walking around the farm without getting too hot. Parking was easy and available right on site. A little tip: Wear comfortable sneakers and make sure you have good balance. There are some areas of the farm with gentle inclines and declines, so it's not completely flat. Since the bridge was out, there was also less walking than there normally would be. And of course, the coffee sampling was such a fun part of the experience! If you're visiting the Big Island and want to learn more about authentic Kona coffee rather than just buying a bag at a store, I highly recommend putting Greenwell Farms on your itinerary. We're so glad we went. It was educational, relaxed, beautiful, and genuinely fun -- and our guide made it that much more memorable. Mahalo to the Greenwell Farms team for such a wonderful experience!

Sip on free samples while you wait or check out merchandise to purchase and support. Do NOT wander as it's an actual working farm with moving machines and vehicles. Stay off roads and watch for moving vehicles. Be cautious of signs and closed off areas. Wear comfortable and safe shoes. It's all walking on uneven dirt and rock. Sunblock, hat, and sunglasses as you are outside the whole time. They provide free umbrellas to borrow during the tour, but they can block views of others on the tour and can become unintentionally obnoxious and rude, and cause potential eye injury hazards. Your guides are great and share so much history on the farm, the trees and plants, the island, the coffee, and the family. Be sure to TIP generously and listen to them QUIETLY and intently. Check website for times and dates.

NO STARS. The rudest and most racist service we have ever experienced in Hawai'i. Racist because we observed they certainly didn't talk to any of their white customers this way and we're immediately rude to us without any reason - a stark difference from how they spoke to their Haole customers. The Haole girls first treated the elder we were with such rudeness telling her to get to the back of the line when she was simply asking how much an oil costs as she was picking up her coffee order at the counter. Our elder had to walk away as she did not want to do the emotional labor needed at that moment. And note, she did not want to buy that oil there and give any more money to this establishment, Then after waiting 15 min for our quiche - they gave us the wrong quiche - COLD and NOT in a TO GO as ordered - and said oh we're out of the one you ordered. After I just saw a man who ordered AFTER US get the last quiche we ordered. Instead of gracefully apologizing and normally sayin - oh here's the quiche on the house and we can refund you for the wait - she refunded us and then put these heated and then now cold quiches back on the counter uncovered where everyone passes by it in line - pretty unsanitary. I thought she was handing it to me to take so I confirmed. And she said - she being the OWNER (I find out after calling to share my experience and her not caring at all) - um I already refunded you! Why would I give you the quiche for free Just because of a 15 min misunderstanding. but whatever TAKE THE QUICHE. I said not thanks and walked away. These rude micro aggressions and disrespect of locals and ELDERS - is the reason we will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. And not only that, we will tell our communities and the friends and clients we have brought there that this place is RACIST and undeserving of our money and patronage.
