I reallyyyy wanted to love this spot. I love a good izakaya. The ambiance is nice, the restaurant is clean and the service is quick and efficient. I'll start with the pros - the nigiri is great, the sweet shrimp I ordered was sweet and creamy with a good ratio of rice. The rice was seasoned well. And the shrimp heads were fried very skillfully and served to you hot. I also enjoyed the pork belly skewer and the sauce it had on the side. It was also seasoned well! The cons - the udon dish I ordered was a whopping $24. It was lackluster and you could get the same portion (or more) and better udon at another place (like Udon Mugizo) AND for cheaper. Nothing in the udon really stood out. The tempura shrimp came extremely soggy immediately as it was put in front of me. The egg that was cracked in the udon also was hard boiled which was so disappointing. I was expecting a more traditional udon with something like an onsen egg which would make it feel more luxurious. It had 3 small pieces of chicken and 1 tiny portion of mushroom. This was not worth the price. The other dish I ordered was the mini uni salmon ikura don which was ok. It might be a good option if you want those proteins but you don't want to spend as much on 3 separate nigiri's, but this wasn't good to me either. Half the bowl was a slice of lemon, ginger, and seaweed salad. I was expecting at least more ikura in the bowl for the price. Their sushi seems to be their stronger side, so I'd probably stick with that if I had to come again.

We came for the Rich Daddy Roll and sadly were disappointed. We were expecting the big plate version that came with sauce but instead we got the not so special looking roll. It was still good but could've used the sauce. We might've come on a night they weren't serving that special version. Karrage was crunchy on the outside, super soft on the inside. Definitely the highlight of the night. It doesn't come with sauce but it's juicy enough to not need any. Huge pieces. Takoyaki was good. I suggest poking a hole in them when they first arrive to cool them down. They were definitely hot and you wouldn't know that until they were already inside your mouth burning it. The ice cream had an interesting flavor and was a good way to end the night. The mochi balls were really good, only if paired with the ice cream. The servers were extremely nice and were really quick to pick up any empty plates.

We stopped by here on a whim and the food was good I had the grilled fatty black pork skewer ($6.50), which was delicious with the lemon. My friends got the chicken's skin skewer and didn't love it though especially because there was a funkier taste to it. We shared the rich daddy roll ($26), which was the best one with the truffle oil. We also tried the Richmond idol roll ($16), which was really big, but felt like so much rice. The gyudon ($20) was good and had nice flavor. Overall, a solid place but a bit pricey for the food. I probably wouldn't come out of my way to come here, but would stop by if a friend wanted to.

The restaurant is on the smaller side so I do recommend making reservations or calling ahead just in case. It is comfortable and warm. The staff was very nice. The Tuna sushi roll was my favorite part. Absolutely delicious.

A very good spot that might even be in the top five Japanese restaurants in San Francisco. The food was amazing and had a very authentic Japanese style. The sashimi's and nigiri's was super fresh and clearly made with care. They also offer wagyu sushi options at a really good price which is great if you want quality without spending too much. We tried fried lotos and it was delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you're into solid Japanese food. Service was fast and place was very clean and cozy.

I love Izakaya Mayumi! The food is spectacular! I was mostly impressed by the freshness of the fish and deep flavor of the sukiyaki udon broth. The service is wonderful. I didn't catch their name, but the same person helped me both times I've visited. She is so kind and helpful. I appreciate that she refilled our drinks regularly too. This place is so cozy. The lighting is warm and inviting. It's a small dining room, but it doesn't feel cramped. Though, I think it wouldn't be good for larger groups. This place has become a new favorite of mine in the Richmond, and it's worth a visit!

A friend recommended this place so we decided to stop by - we came for HH and it was a very limited HH menu (a few basic rolls, fried appetizers, and drink specials). Place itself was very welcoming - cozy, clean, has a good quiet vibe for conversations. No high chair though, so our toddler had to sit on a bench with us. We ordered: - Salmon avocado roll (3.5/5): very simple, not much to say. Rice was good sushi rice, but some pieces were on the thicker side relatively to fish/avocado. - Tuna avocado roll (3.5/5): similar to above - Spicy hamachi roll (4/5): first time having something like this, enjoyed it - not like a typical spicy salmon/tuna with leftover minced fish, this one has quality larger pieces - Agedashi tofu (3/5): Odd slimy exterior, simmered in sauce - not any agedashi tofu we've had before. Ended up digging in the tofu on the inside and discarding the doughy wraps, oilier than most. - Grilled Hokkaido scallop skewers (4/5): Solid but some pieces were dry, slightly overcooked - Gindara Saikyo yaki (grilled miso black cod) (4.5/5): very tasty, delicious, wish it was a larger portion - from specials menu Place is good for date nights, but obviously not kid friendly - tighter tables, no high chairs. It's also fairly pricey for what you get - we came for HH and still spent $85 for these basic items without drinks (see pics). $9 for HH rolls, agedashi tofu, and $19 for two small pieces of grilled cod. We were really hoping for more skewer options - they only had I believe 4 including scallops, fatty pork, chicken skin, and something else. Extensive specials menu, but difficult to assess portions. Service was also so-so, guy was working front of house alone, didn't check in on us, only offered to fill our water until after we paid the check.

Th food tasted great! The waitress was also super attentive and nice. We didn't leave super full but we did leave satisfied after a great meal! It gets pretty packed after 6:30pm, so plan accordingly! We went around 5pm and it was just us.

Izakaya Mayumi is the best!!! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. It's a great date spot. The ambiance was very quaint and the perfect space for good conversation. We ordered a few rolls, nigiri, miso soup and drinks. All the rolls were packed with fish and flavor. Very filling but it was so good, we ordered another roll after eating 2 rolls and 2 orders of nigiri! The service was amazing! We were there on a Monday night, so it was not crowded. The staff were very attentive and very kind. I am very excited to go back!!

The best Japanese restaurant I've ever visit in San Francisco, 10/10, so fresh and clean

Came here with my girlfriend after our original dinner plans were cancelled on a Saturday night. We arrived around 6 and were seated quickly after which there seemed to be a wait time to get in (highly recommend making a reservation) To simply put we were mindblown by the food quality and ambience. We had a very sweet dinner and by sitting near the counter seat area we had a very romantic/cozy experience as well. The shishito peppers were some of the best I got. All the dishes were ordered were fantastic. I will definitely be back here again

    Danielle R.

The ambience of this restaurant is so soothing and quaint; with only a handful of tables and a small bar area, you will definitely have an intimate dinner here. Given the small space, for larger parties it's safe to make a reservation. We ordered a handful of items from the menu, including the sashimi sampler, shishito peppers, udon, and one of their specialty rolls. All the food was prepped and presented wonderfully. It was satisfying without feeling incredibly heavy. Will definitely come back here for more sushi!

We ordered the kitsune udon, gyu don, Rich Daddy roll, and black sesame ice cream. Everything was amazing! So fresh, flavorful, and just the right amount of food. The roll was our favorite and ending with the black sesame ice cream was perfect. Also I recommend ordered the green tea. We kept getting our cups refilled so it was definitely worth it! The vibe is super cozy and calming. There are only a few tables and a small bar. The service is so great. This place is definitely a hidden gem. I can't wait to come back!

Gretted when we entered, we slid into one the few open tables. The decor was charming, and we were quickly gretted by our server with menus and water. My sister and I split some appetizer items so we could try various items, and every single dish was a taste sensation. The gyoza was crisp on the outside while packed with a savory meat, drizzled with sauce. The Karaage was tender chicken encased in a light fried pankostyle casing, also drizzled with a sauce, and the flavor, each bite was satisfying without being too filling. The Kabocha Kor, were panko fried pumpkin patties with a tonkatsu style sauce that brought the taste buds to a more earthier place . The Tokoyaki, were tender fried octopus balls in a sauce that I would have been happy to hunker down with a large bowl of and just crush, easily my favorite bite, which is saying something as no bute was bad . The broth had a great flavor, and the pork chashu was possibly the best I've ever had(!) as it was soooo tender and flavorful, and not very fatty. I did think the cauliflower left room to be desired, and kinda took away from the ramen overall. We finished our meal off with the matcha Panna cotta - this was a great dessert and wasn't too sweet ;) This place definitely seems to be pretty good at a lot of dishes, but not amazing at any single one. Arrived on valentines weekend without a reservation. Initially thought the door was locked with a…read morefull house of customers inside and almost walked away but looks like you need to shove the door open. Ambiance was so cute very intimate but not much conversational privacy. Ordered the chicken, wagyu steak, beef tongue, okra, eel, scallop, and pork belly skewers. Also had the yuzu cheesecake. All skewers were juicy and delicious 10/10 every item was a hit. Wagyu was soft and not too welldone, scallop was flavorful and soft, chicken was so juicy, tender, and had strong flavor. Yuzu cheesecake - small light fluffy with a light caramel like sauce - emptied the plate 10/10 Would definitely come again.

Inside it's a cute and intimate restaurant with a long bar and a few tables. I've been coming to this place over the years and looks like they recently expanded by taking over the next door. Now you can enter to an expanded area through a wall that didn't exist previously to another two bar areas. This place is probably best for date nights and couples rather than large parties. Good variety of izakaya choices including chicken thighs, chicken parts, pork belly, scallops, and some beef options. I found the izakaya solid but not outstanding. The skewers are a little too saucy for my taste which I prefer more the traditional simple salt which you find in Japan. Also, I wish they had more charcoal flavor to the izakayas. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken skin gyoza which uses chicken skin as wrappers. It's an interesting twist to your traditional gyozas. The fried oysters were good, juicy, and crunchy. They also have a very good selection of sakes and drinks.
