I pass by this place frequently but seriously never paid much attention it. I guess I should pay better attention to my surroundings sometimes. Kebab Bar came on my radar on Yelp and I was curious to try it. I did a Doordash pick up order and it was ready by the time I got there after work. I ordered the dolma/grape leaves, beef koobideh plate, chicken kebab plate, and the shish kebab plate. The plates come with basmati rice, pita bread, and a choice of cucumber yogurt, salad, or hummus. I chose hummus and the cucumber yogurt. Overall, I think the meats needed more seasoning. I had some leftover Zankou garlic sauce that made it better. The tomato on each plate was very burnt. The bell peppers and onions on the shish kebab were also kind of burnt. For the rather high prices, I expect edible non-charred food where I don't have to peel off the burned parts. read more

This is a very tiny restaurant, takeout place behind Sepulveda and La Tijera. It is directly east of kohls. There is seating for a dozen people at the most. You walk up to the counter place your order and then in 10 or 15 minutes it's ready. The food here is quite good. It's really great for takeout especially if you have a large group to feed. I want to give them 3 1/2 stars but yelp doesn't do half stars yet. Maybe that's something they could work on. read more

What we bought: BEEF KOOBIDEH PLATE DOLMA SALMON WRAP HUMMUS FRIES BEEF KOOBIDEH - Despite it being a Persian fare standard, KB did NOT nail it. The Beef was poorly/weakly seasoned and was an exercise in enjoying The Bland. At $15, the blandness almost hurt. DOLMA: You get 7 with pita and tomato/lettuce accompaniment. The grape leaves were just a tad undercooked and the rice was, again, a little dry/slightly overcooked. FRIES: Why bother. They weren't particularly well cooked and sported zero crisp. HUMMUS: Excellent. But, being that hummus is to Mediterranean Food what Salsa Y Chips is to Mexican, it's cursory business to get this right. SALMON WRAP: The biggest disappointment of the meal. At first sight I thought this was gonna rock. It didn't. After the first three bites from the inside cut on each of those halves (pictured below), the amount of salmon dwindled, to the point where, before reaching the other end of the wrap, you're eating nothing but dried out wrap; no salmon, no veggies, no nothin'. Overall, a little flavorless and at almost $10, seriously not worth it. Bottom Line: Gonna give 'em till Summer to improve and will check it out again. Stay tuned. read more

What really surprised me about the place was for very small outfit more suited more for just 'take out' food, how very expensive it was considering the tiny store front eatery located in a not premier location in a strip mall, and thus expected lower overheads. I found it much more expensive than other full service Persian restaurants with more comprehensive extensive menus, multiple servers and linen covered tables and serviettes. I ordered in for two. Required to pay at the register in advance with self served canned drinks from the refrigerator. The food was okay (not amazing) served in plastic containers and flatware. A plate of one skewer Barg Kebab with rice charged at $26.99, together with the soft drinks, and nothing extra was over $74. Also surprising was that they charged 3% service charge which I found astonishing for such a place and the fact that there was no service per se to speak of and even after I tipped. I have been a fan of Persian cuisine since my college roommate took us to her favorite restaurant in Westwood. Up until recently, I was still making the trek to Westwood Boulevard to satisfy my cravings. I'm happy to report that there is finally a restaurant closer to home that checks all the boxes. I ordered a plate of the beef barg and added a salmon kebab as well as a plate of the chicken kebab with a shrimp kebab. Both platters came with rice and salad as well as one additional side each. I opted for the fries and hummus. The salad was crisp and fresh and came with a very light vinaigrette dressing. I was gifted a side of maust o khiar which had a fresh, light herbal taste, almost a bit like dill. The side of hummus was dense but creamy with a slightly tart flavor. The French fries were fantastic, perfectly crisp and lightly seasoned and were so addictive that I ate most of it before I realized I hadn't taken a photo of it. Some of the other Persian restaurants I have frequented have inconsistencies in the quality of their food, with some entrees tasting better than others. Having sampled the chicken, beef, salmon and shrimp, I can truthfully say they were all exceptionally good and equally delicious. The meat and seafood were moist and tender with generous portions. The rice was silky, light and fluffy. Side note: My order was a bit delayed because by the time I arrived, they had run out of rice so they made more, 30 minutes before closing time. As an added bonus, I got to try my first Persian ice cream sandwich. It was pistachio saffron which tasted a bit minty but not sweet which was perfect for my palate since I'm not a frequent dessert eater. Kebab Bar will now be our go-to whenever we have a hankering for fine Persian cuisine. We're so happy they've opened and are looking forward to many more tasty meals. read more

After waiting 20 minutes in store, she hands me someone else's order (thank goodness I checked)! After an hour of placing my order, I'm still waiting for my food. What is going on?!
