The venue is gorgeous. Have stayed at the hotel before but didn't eat at the restaurant with so many nearby excellent options. Decided to have brunch on checkout and found the service to be excellent and friendly. The food is fresh and high quality. They pay attention to the ingredients and it shows. The melon salad with mint vinaigrette (no photo) and fried pancetta was remarkable. While I would normally only provide 4 stars for a venue like this, they exceed expectations given their location. Fantastic view, reasonable prices while delivering excellent quality and great staff.

    Strange Falafel!

Go for the view, not the food. The patio is lovely - you'll see and hear the waves breaking on the shore, and if you're lucky, you'll see a ferry and train - a quintessential northwest scene. The food is another story. We expected more of the restaurant within the Chrysalis. The service was good, but the actual food? Don't bother. Actually the house salad was quite good- served with pecorino, shaved asparagus, pine nuts - and perfectly dressed. The falafel was another story - extra large balls with a hard exterior and gummy interior. Served with feta (why?), hummus, and waaaaay too much paprika. Call me a traditionalist, but smaller balls/patties with tahini would be a good place to start. Too much going on here... My friend said her crab cakes were "flavorless". Go for the view, maybe a glass of wine and the house salad...

Stopped by on a whim and got seated right away. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive, but it was absolutely worth the wait--delicious! The place also has a nice view, which made the experience even better.

My child almost fell off of the pier because your food attracted a bird and my kids chased the bird off of the pier, but luckily I caught them!

Lovely Sunday lunch here! I got the fish tacos with clam chowder and both were scrumptious. We did not have a reservation so they sat us in the bar area which was perfectly fine. I would recommend a reservation. It was a beautiful view of the bay and our server was friendly.

Have been wanting to try Keenan's for a while and finally got the chance to do so-- it did not disappoint! The service was incredible! What we ordered: - clam chowder: although a little salty, it was the perfect creaminess filled with an abundance of ingredients! Every bite was something new.. and it just paired so well with the cheesy bread the came along with it! - classic breakfast: your choice of 2 eggs, bread and protein with hash! it was very filling!! And honestly, can't go wrong with this options - breakfast omelette: just big enough of a portion, but slightly salty Inside was spacious and had many tables! Ask for a water view if you can to up the entire experience!!

"Bahn mi" frozen meat substance sandwich

Positives: best view in town from the deck. Server was very nice. Cons: food was terrible. Like, bad airport hotel food. Veggie sandwich was two thin slices of pre-cut mozzarella, one anemic tomato slice, a few spinach leaves, and 3 avocado slices n the driest, most cardboard-ish focaccia. Soup was essentially hot ginger water. Ew. But that all pales, literally, next to the "bahn mi" sandwich.... Four white (!) meatballs, obviously taken fresh from the freezer, and not fully warmed up. Honestly so bad, like beyond bad. Keenan's seems like a great place to have a drink and look at the sunset, but not ever again for food. Very disappointing cause this is supposed to be the special date night restaurant... nope.

Fresh fish tacos, sunshine and water views. What could be better. The service was as outstanding as the food. Don't miss this location.

An amazing setting here on the Puget Sound! Compliments to the Chef and the whole staff for such a lovely and friendly experience! The food was spot on with flavor that was a step above and the portions were very nice. The specialty drinks are unique as well! Five star establishment in every aspect of professional service and rock'en the flavor food guys! We will be back!

    MAHI MAHI*

The view is great. The food is okay... I ordered the seafood chowder to start, which was good but nothing special. I got the mahi mahi as an entree, which was disappointing. The "lemongrass rice" had absolutely no flavor, and was mushy. The broccolini was under-done, un-flavorful, and hard. The mahi mahi clearly didn't have any kind of spice or seasoning, it was just a piece of cooked fish, which was fine I guess. The mango salsa was good, but nothing special. My mom got the halibut which she said was incredibly dry. Our server was rather abrupt...she wasn't rude per se, she just seemed very rushed which would have been understandable if the place was packed, but we went early and seemed to be the only table she was serving. Ultimately, the experience was fine, but at a $45 per plate price tag, totally not worth it. I think they get their business based more on the quality of the shoreline than quality of the food.

Most unappetizing "rosemary potatoes" that were burnt, mushy, overcooked and stale served next to underwhelming eggs Benedict

Ask the Community - Keenan's at the Pier

Hi there, we are traveling from out of town and I saw you still require masks for guests? I just wanted to check and see if that was still accurate so we can be prepared.

    No masks required.

Is it kid friendly? We have a two and a half year old who is pretty well behaved in restaurants but want to verify first!

Yes. It is perfectly fine for kids in the non bar era of course.

Is the 3-6 happy hour menu only available in the bar or can you order from it anywhere in the restaurant?

Hi Megan! We serve happy hour every day from 3-6pm in the bar, Living Room and on the Terrace only. It is not served in the dining room, outside patio, or with room service. Hope that clarifies and that we see you soon!

    Do they sell gift cards?

Yes, I believe Keenan's does have gift cards.

Each used n/a spirits (n/a mezcal in the latter) and a symphony of sophisticated ingredients, which wish I tell you what. Each had a speared dried citrus slice and a luscious ginger bite (or something!) a top. The first had included honey, but it wasn't sweet--just complexified with a little snap to it that the honey smoothed; the second was a little sweeter in tone, including a bit of huckleberry along with the mezcal. (Connor might recall them by my play name for them. Inspired by a book in my hand on collecting meteorites, I nicknamed the first the "Extraterrestrial Visitor" and the second the "Heavenly Visitor.") They were so delicious I suggested he put them on the menu. If he does or doesn't, no matter. Just ask him if he has time to get creative for you. He'll ask you flavor tone preferences, or you can just go for whatever he wants to make, like I did. Again, he is excellent. I enjoyed my lovely drinks with a Caesar salad (another OMG!) which included crispy bacon bits and loads of tiny shreds of a delicious white cheese along with a creamy dressing. It was scrumptious as was the very lovely charcuterie plate. Pistachios, green apple slices, fat outstanding Castelvetrano olives (caution: with pits), a luscious pepper jelly that went beautifully dipped into with their choice of excellent crackers, delicately flavored salami and a prosciutto so elegantly-flavored it could make you weep. And it was lovely enjoying it all on their "porch" on a sunny day.

It was close to our hotel, and has charming half-moon booths. Summary? Uninspired with potential.

Wonderful food and drinks. I started with oyster shooters (Willapa Bay) along with a Lion's Tail cocktail. Sierra said the bourbon and lime complement each other. I wouldn't have thought so and thought it a bit of an odd choice. But she was right and I was wrong: it was fabulous. One of the most delicious drinks I've ever had, for my tastes. She gave me several recommendations for dinner. I picked the Jalapeño Chicken. It was luscious and flavorful, but the best part of it was my choice of Balsamic Brussels sprouts as my side--oh my! These were so delicious I ordered two more batches to have at home. Lovely espresso martini to end it all.

I was happy to see steamed clams on the menu. I grew up eating fresh steamed seafood for dinner, so battered fried seafood that is more common here hasn't really grown on me yet. To me fried seafood is a fancy version of chicken nuggets. I loved the clams, so light but bland. The sauce is full of umami flavor, drizzled with some fresh lemon juice, it was like a summery beachy afternoon in a bowl. I could easily dip a loaf of toast with it if I had one. The clams were fresh and meaty, nothing to complain about with this dish. My partner had the grilled cheese, and he said it was mid. He's vegetarian, and I don't like cheese, so I didn't bother to try any of his meal to do my own fact check. The staff were friendly too. Overall, this is a nice place to grab lunch when visiting Bellingham.

This is the only spot that made me consider not giving 5 stars, but I love this place even if they didn't have food. It was what I imagine all teenage boys eat while playing for hours in their basement. Frozen food they pop in a convection oven. And it is all nasty. However, I do watch people eating and they seem to enjoy it. Oh! This place is 18 and up after 8. The dining room was elegant yet cozy, with great lighting. The staff was also very friendly and our waiter was very helpful in aiding our choice. We ordered the Focaccia bread, the salmon momtadito and the tonnarelli as our entree. The focaccia was the only dissapointing item as it was very basic in my opinion, which isn't bad but just nothing exciting to write about. The appetizer, the salmon montadito, was probably my favorite item of the night. It was served on focaccia bread and drizzled with a truffle honey butter and sat upon a mascarapone yogurt. It was elegant and it was incredibly flavorful. The sweetness of the truffle honey butter was a great contrast to the salmon itself, and all melted together to make an exceptional appetizer. The tonnarelli was a pasta dish we split and was also very tasty. The pasta itself was a thicker spaghetti like pasta served with plenty of crab. It was tasty and it satisfied and I'd likely order it again as I will be back when my sister's visit. All in all, a great restaurant to spend a nice night right in the heart of Bellingham!

We came in for an early dinner so we were really able to enjoy the rustic ambience of this restaurant all by ourselves. As soon as we sat down the waitress was attentive and ready to take our order. I order the garden party off their cocktail menu. Snap pea gin, bay leaf vermouth, genepy, saline and pea shoot? I really was feeling adventurous with this one, a regrettable mistake. The first sip I thought I was drinking sea water with a touch of olive oil in it. I never send back drinks although I was close with this one, I sipped it throughout my meal. One critique I have about the cocktail menu is that every drink was over complicated with many exotic ingredients. There was nothing for someone who was looking for a simple craft cocktail. The table shared the Strawberry Panzanella, and once again I was accosted by an overwhelming salty and sour flavor. A traditional Italian salad consisting of grilled strawberry and focaccia croutons. The lemon vinaigrette dressing on this salad was salty and sour, and very overpowering. Unlike my drink we were unable to finish this one. I ordered the Roe Burger, which I had been really looking forward to trying, thankfully this one did not disappoint. Two smash burger patties that were thin, crispy, and cooked to perfection with slices of cheddar cheese on top are then placed on a bed of classic burger toppings. Tomato, pickles, and iceberg lettuce. This burger was served with crispy fries and garlic aioli. After my fist few bites my mind was beginning to change about this restaurant. We also shared the Reuben Croquettes. A super creative and unique spin on one of my personal favorite appetizers. These little fried pocket were filled with a delicious mixture of cheese and shredded corned beef. They were garnished with a small slice of pickle which was a great touch. For dessert we decided to try the hazelnut torte which was fantastic. It had a nice crisp outer layer with a soft gooey center. Lovely flavor and texture that ended our experience at Roe wonderfully. In conclusion our experience at Roe had its ups and downs but I left feeling satisfied. If you are looking for a unique culinary experience I would give this restaurant a try.
