We dined here three mornings in a row during our stay at The Chrysalis Inn. Our last day we were able to try their Sunday brunch items as well. All of the food was great. The things we loved the most were the French toast, fish tacos, and the soups. However, service can be slow. We never saw the dining area more than half full, but it took 40-45 minutes to receive our food the first morning. I pointed this out to our server the next day (because we did not have the time to wait that long) and she relayed this to the kitchen, which was very helpful. I think this is a lovely place to start your day, with gorgeous views of the bay. I would love to return for dinner near sunset one day. read more

I had a gift certificate to use for a special night out and enjoyed a going away dinner with a dear friend. The service was friendly and wonderful and the food was delicious! They just updated their menu for their fall items and tried their Cider Brined Pork Chop - it was so aww-mazing! I also had the Anne Bonny cocktail; it was delicious and strong. This is a restaurant at the chrysalis hotel. We figured we should at least try breakfast here since we were staying here! There is a lot of outdoor dining space. Bet it is so fun in the summer with the best view! We got the Dungeness crab omelette and the winter squash with corned beef to share and they were both SO good. The crab within the omelette was divine... large delicious chunks of crab. The potatos were crispy. They actually forgot the corned beef on the winter squash (which is why it's not pictured here) but promptly brought a side of it to one room. It was delicious and well cooked. Complemented the squash and mushrooms very well. They also kindly adjusted our bill due to forgetting the corned beef which was a nice surprise. We were tipped off about this place from a server at another restaurant. We came last Saturday and had an excellent experience! First of all, they recommend/I think you need a reservation to dine inside. Maybe double check that on their website. I made a reservation day of no problem. When we arrived the hostess couldn't find my reservation. Of course I didn't save it where I could find it on my phone so I was thinking we were out of luck. The hostess was sooooo sweet! She said she entered my name, didn't see reservation but my name did come up and she believed it was an issue on their side. She talked to her manager and she got us a perfect table by a window! Okayyyy hold up! That's like never happening in Seattle! That's like, oh I can't find your reservation? Well, you're out of luck and I'm not wasting my time looking for it lol so I was floored by this very friendly, amazing service from the start! Ok this is getting long already soooo overall, service was AMAZING! Host, server and expo were all very friendly! These people are happy with their lives, happy with their jobs and happy with life! The views are beautiful! Even dining inside we could see the beautiful sunset. Outside dining has an even prettier view! The food was okayyyyy. I can't speak for entrees so maybe those are better. We ordered fish tacos and hush puppies off happy hour and mussels off the regular menu, all were good but nothing amazing. You're really just there for the view. As I always mention in my reviews, the setting / atmosphere of any restaurant makes a lot of difference in how we perceive what kind of experience we are about to encounter; in another word "First Impressions" really counts. Keenan's at the Pier has provided us with an excellent "First Impression" the moment we stepped into the dining area, we were greeted by our very friendly and cheerful server; Abby Rose, her positive energy started us off on a very positive experience. We were shown to our table which is facing the ocean, as we were lucky that day to have the clouds rolled away and we could see the clear sky, Pacific Northwest weather is very temperamental and any moment can change. Food-wise, I feel that the Chef that day was a tad off, as my Crab Cake was slightly over fried and the surface is beyond the golden brown colour, also the accompanying tossed Arugula salad was a bit on the limpy side. Flavour is good, but presentation is lacking. The Crab Melt is done well but again, you can see the presentation is also off, as the two slices of tomatoes were not evenly sliced, with one being much thicker then the other. Minor details but details do make a difference of being good or being excellent! Overall, the 4 stars are for the service and the dining room, if the kitchen can keep their standards I will not hesitate a moment to give a 5 star rating!! read more

Weekend dinner service was very good. Six of us decided to dine here for the waterfront view, wine, beer, and the seafood. We, of course, had a table reservation and it was in an enjoyable location. The food and waitstaff service was very good and they indulged our different tastes and moods. We all enjoyed our ordered meals. I think our somewhat late dining time worked to our advantage. Being in the hotel made this place convenient but it was pretty disappointing. The view is lovely, especially if you can catch it over sunset. Our server was attentive and friendly, but this restaurant doesn't seem invested in return customers - which makes sense given the location. The drinks were really nice, on the high end price-wise but that's expected. I ordered this pasta dish that tasted just like a microwavable Lean Cuisine meal - artificial, bland, sauceless, just really meh; not great at $30ish. I added steak to the pasta and it was sliced but had a huge ribbon of fat right down the middle - not nicely rendered fat, but hard inedible fat. If the kitchen could slice my steak, couldn't they trim it? My dining companion had a similar experience with a dry, small fillet of salmon with a cauliflower puree that had a gritty, off-putting texture. We barely ate anything but the server took our plates without asking if something was wrong or if we wanted to order anything else. The dessert we wanted was sold out (even though it was early evening) so we left with a pretty bummed out vibe. We called the manager to ask if there was anything he could do since we had a disappointing meal (and it was our anniversary, which was mentioned in our reservation but not acknowledged.) He said we should have said something in the moment and that they won't do anything about it afterward. So I recommend going for happy hour, snag a couple nice drinks and some truffle fries and find another spot for dinner (Ovn is just 2 minutes away and a WAY better experience.) read more

The food was completely unremarkable. The pork belly wasn't cooked properly to render the fat. The scallop special for that night had a very odd flavor profile. Delicious breakfast with a beautiful view! Absolutely enjoyed every bite and minute here! It wasn't busy so it was calm and peaceful looking out at the bay and the boardwalk. They even have binoculars at each table if you wanted to look out further. It was a cold day so we were seated inside, but I would love to come back in the summer to sit outside and really enjoy the view and the calm air with a good meal. The server informed us of the board specials which I was thankful for, it was already hard to decide to get as everything on the menu sounded so good, but when she read the board specials I knew I had to try the chorizo biscuits and gravy. I'm so glad I did as it was delicious, the sauce was so good! I also knew I really wanted to try the challah french toast, I'm big on sweet and savory. The server was so nice and they were able to do a half order of the challah french toast. This is a must try! This place just feels special. It's always a treat to come to Keenan's and The Chrysalis. We stopped for happy hour at Keenan's before an anniversary celebration. Too cold to sit on the beautiful deck overlooking Bellingham Bay, so we sat at a sweet little table in the bar. I had a glass of Pinot noir and the hub had a glass of rose; we also shared a hummus plate with creamy, garlicky house made hummus, warm pita wedges and delightfully crisp veggies. Just yum. This place came highly recommended locally so thought i would give it a shot . We took a table on the bar area , which was relatively busy . Breath taking views. Shirley , our waitress, was very prompt , made good menu suggestions. Clam chowder soup was the start of the dinner ; definitely one of the best I have had . And recommend trying it . Ordered the fish tacos , though good , but they lacked flavor. The calamari appetizer wAs good , even better when dipped in the garlic aoli that came so it's the fries. It was over 1 hr but we made best walking on boardwalk in front of restaurant and people watching. Then we get called, come to let them know, and they seat someone else who just came in at our table. So rather than sorry, we had this seat for other guests who have been waiting they ask if we just wanted want to wait for another table cuz they would stick us in corner small table that was not great since someone else got our table, and our answer was pretty much yes we will wait. In another 20min they call and we come after trying to choose to make it a good evening and they seat us on the patio!! big win we thought until we didn't even get any service for 25 min to even ask for drinks.I was about to call when i finally saw a side convo between a server and another pointing at us. She comes and we order but it just seemed so superficial and everywhere we'd been in Bellingham so far had amazingly kind and engaging people. Perhaps she was busy. They kindly split the salad and food was lovely. Apollo drink was fantastic! It turned out to be nice because we choose to not get frustrated time and again, We were grateful for the patio seating but it was a roller coaster night for a 5yr anniversary celebration. The lobby and restaurant have a warm ambiance with a killer outside patio (for summer weather) over-lookimg the Bay. The digs are backed up with a wonderful menu at the restaurant that is best suited to a lunch visit. We were expecting a full entré menu for our visit at 2pm but ended up with hamburgers ... which were still excellent. Gluten free items on the menu were a pleasant surprise, and though I'm not intolerant to gluten, i avoid it to the max bc of the health benefits I've realized since i noticed that I'm sensitive to it. After lunch we ordered dessert BUT we moved to the lounge by the fireplace so we could bring in our puppy Leon, and they lit a fire for us while we had their delicious flourless chocolate cake (gluten free) with a scoop of vanillaice cream -- yummy all the way. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Washington. I love the drinks, patio, food and of course the view! Staff has been amazing even during the pandemic and food is always consistent. I recommend the mussels and fish and chips. Go for a walk on the boardwalk and get ice cream in the little town. It will be a lovely afternoon :) read more

I went to Keenan's for the first time for my birthday lunch. Friends from Seattle drove up to join me. I had heard good things about the place but sadly we were all very disappointed. The wait for our food was very long despite the fact that hardly anyone was in the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. Oh, this used to be my absolute favorite place to go get food in Bellingham if I wanted to eat a delicious meal while enjoying a gorgeous sunset. It was the best sit-down restaurant in Bellingham, hands down. I would be so excited whenever my employer selected this place for dinner. I came here this evening and was saddened to find out that the menu has changed, along with the chefs. I ordered a lamb stew and a risotto. For me, the food was borderline good, and not spectacular like before. The lamb stew was soaked in grease and very heavy, but the flavor was rich. The risotto was bland, and I had to add salt to make it more savory. Before, it was perfectly seasoned. The saving grace was that this place still provided five-star service. This place gets 3 stars for food and 5 stars for service, resulting in an overall score of 4. I hope that over time, the food will get better. read more
