This review is for the crawfish only. We had just finished a movie and saw the crawfish sign. It was 70 degrees in January and thought-let's try it. To our surprise it was SO good! (Crawfish aren't huge yet but that's not Keepers fault-it's only January) They give you a lot of extras! The spice was great and the corn was sweet and spicy-just the way we like them! They even have sausage and onions. Being for Houston/Louisiana area, we have a hard time finding good crawfish in Austin. They told us they will have them everyday during crawfish season which is a great plus bc a lot of restaurants have them only on random Saturdays in the month. They aren't cheap but I wont take a star away for that. Everything has gone up and I expect to pay more for good things! Can't wait to go back! read more

One of the best fish and chips I have ever had! Fresh, flavorful cod and enough of it! I ate it all! The fries were good as well. They bring tartare sauce but you can't beat the malt vinegar that comes with it. My son had the seafood pasta and he said it was very good. It looked good! We don't write reviews often, but this place was fantastic. We didn't take any pictures, but the plating on the lobster agnolotti was fabulous and it was delicious. Stopped here after a movie at the Alamo. The Beachy Cooler is a nice drink. The warm pimento dip was good if you like cheese dip. I was hoping for a pimento cheese sandwich flavor but it seemed very bland to me. There were four of us at the table so it got eaten. Service was fast and friendly. We had dinner at Keeper's tonight. The service was a bit slow at first though the waitstaff were all friendly. We ordered a draft beer and Chardonnay. The beer was served fairly quickly but the wine was slow and was comped when it finally arrived. We ordered the crispy wild mushrooms which were simply delicious with the sauce. I had scallops with butternut squash ( yum!) and an edamame succotash. Hubby had a salad which was fine but I think would have been better with shrimp which hubby didn't order. Overall this was some of the more flavorful food that I've had a restaurant lately and think we need to come here more often! read more

We got take out but the place looked really nice when I went into pick up the food, the patio looked like a great place to dine outside. We got the Fish Fry Combo and it came with 2 small pieces of fish and 5 small shrimp (plus fries and a little half-filled side of coleslaw). It all tasted fine but not for $30! We also ordered the Aquachile which was described as "having a kick" but did not. Unless they meant something besides "spicy" when they said "kick". They also only gave us like 10 tortilla chips, they didn't even fill the to-go container. Speaking of the containers, they charge a 6% fee for to-go orders. I would say they should build the cost of the containers into their prices but they're already charging too much so they should just get rid of that fee. read more

My review is based on two visits. The first visit was with my husband and 9-year-old, and it was good. Not great, but decent enough for us to want to go again when we had a sitter. That was last night. The good: The smoked salmon dip appetizer was very tasty, as were the fish tacos I had. My husband got the crab and shrimp boil with kimchi butter, and he liked it quite a bit. Also, our waitress was friendly and very quickly brought my husband another drink when the one he ordered (Jolly Rancher) was not at all sweet like she had described it. The not-so great: I ordered an El Presidente margarita, and it was the tiniest cocktail I've ever had. There was lots of ice, and I don't think there could have been more than about 5 ounces of actual liquid. Had I known that that is what I would be getting for my $15, I would have ordered something else. The really not-good: My husband's meal was on the menu as "market price." In hindsight, we should have asked what market price was, but having just come from the Outer Banks and having "market price" seafood at $25-$35, we just figured it would be around that and didn't think to ask the actual price. Well, we were totally blindsided when the bill came and we saw that his meal was $75! Yes, we should have asked what the market price was, but I also feel like the server should have told us how much it would be to confirm that we still wanted it, because there is no way we would have ordered it if we knew. While it was good, my husband said he didn't feel it was anywhere near $75 Good (more like $30-$35). I realize they have to ship the seafood to Texas, but it just seems way too marked up. I know it's very hard to run a restaurant these days and even harder to make a profit at it, but with prices like these, we will not be back for quite some time because it's also hard to run a family on a limited budget these days. Thank goodness for credit cards because last night we would have been washing dishes to pay for our unexpected bill. read more

I visited Keepers on Saturday evening and had a wonderful experience. I can't say enough good things about the food and service! I sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the fresh fish options. I started with one of their cocktails, and the Hamachi Crudo which was a weekend feature. It was incredible. A perfect blend of flavors with avocado and a hint of kick from the jalapeño. I followed the Hamachi with Steelhead Trout, another awesome weekend feature! We live in the area, so originally we were excited when they were finally opening, replacing the brewery that was there before. So far we've been there 3 times in the past 2 months. First, the service: excellent. Usually 3 to 4 different people come by to make sure we are ok and if we need anything else. And they are on top of your well being. Second: near instant gratification: the drink, the food, they all come out pretty quickly. So from the time you get there to the time you get libated or satiated, is not long. Third: Excellent food. From the peel and eat shrimp to the port a fries to the oysters to the boils.. excellent.. does not disappoint.. i found myself licking the ol' fingers many a times. Great outdoor seating as well. Delicious seafood and cocktails. My husband and I wanted to try this place out since it's in our neck of the woods, and were pleasantly surprised at how tasty the food and cocktails are. The hostess did seat us in a spot that wasn't supposed to be available, but the manager was able to remedy the situation quickly and comped a round of drinks, which was really nice of her to do (especially since we didn't even ask her to). For food, we had oysters and the seafood dip to start. Wasn't too sure about corn in the dip, but it ended up being a nice compliment to the shrimp and crab. I ordered the bayou plate for my main meal and it was fantastic! Perfectly cooked black drum fish and beautifully seasoned red beans and rice. The pickled okra was a nice palate cleanser too. For drinks, we had margaritas and they were strong but not to the point where it ruined the flavor. My husband had Altstadt Kolsch and I cannot tell you how exited we were to know they had this beer on draft. One of our favs! Overall, a delicious and great experience. Happy we decided give this place a try even though they just opened and are working out some of the kinks. I hope they end up offering reservations via Open Table, but if not...get there early and be prepared to wait a little bit. It's definitely worth it. read more

Had lunch here today and sat on their patio. We had 4 beers 2 apps and 2 fried fish plates for around $85 before tip. Service was lovely and the food was enjoyable. However, the portions are so small here and not filling. I understand limiting the fish due to high cost but maybe load the plate with fries and slaw instead of a handful of fries and 1/8 cup of slaw. After a long wait for a new place in the neighborhood Keepers does not disappoint. I have already been there twice and will be making it part of my dining out rotation. The shrimp po boy was one of the best I have had, I wanted to order a second but I was too full. On the app side I have sampled the peel and eat shrimp (I do not think I have had better) and the Port A fries which I have had twice. The place has very welcoming and comfortable decor and the casual vibe really makes this a go to for me. The staff is very friendly and interactive even with the order and pay at the table system which I found very easy and convenient. I am all in for trying the boils next time which my friend had and said was amazing! read more

Nope. Not worth it. We sat 3 ft from the server station at the bar. We watched our apps and our drinks sit for several minutes while bartenders did not signal servers that drinks and apps were up. Our server was brand new (I hope) or completely inept. Training is definitely needed. We got up and got our own drinks off the bar after about five minutes. Paige, a bartender, came over and checked on us because she noticed the issue (us getting our own drinks). Grateful for that but one person can't do everything. read more

Food and drinks truly were great ..so happy with the menu (a good mix of healthy and indulgent-get either of the ceviches, the fish tacos and those darn extra crispy fries I'm going to crave now!!) the selection, timing from order to table was relatively fast and the quality yum -don't change a thing there. My only complaints were the wait (an hour and a half when we got there at 6-615) and the ordering system..the waitresses were very nice however, if your paying a 20% tip and there really isn't much the waiters can do to enhance your service, you feel bad for them as it's very clunky to navigate their ordering system; Ie if you order a boil, which requires use of your hands, be prepared if you want to order a second drink while your hands are all sticky from the crab leg yumminess that you will have to stop, clean up and time it so that you don't smooge all over your phone to open app and add to your order. Oh and definitely make sure you hit "add to order" as it looks like you updated (and added drinks and an oyster plate) however two parties in our group missed adding onto their tab as they didn't realize their requests didn't go through..again I feel like this could be causing them to miss sales, as by the time we realized the orders were never placed,we both decided to cancel our add ons. Be mindful that it's also hard to customize or get some things on the app so you end up ordering (Iced tea) and then asking waiters to replace with club soda as that wasn't an option in the app..so all in all, whiles it's likely more an app/operator awareness issue vs restaurant issue..it definitely takes the experience down from a relaxing evening to a bit clunky interface with the app, the waitstaff and your group making sure everything is flowing (drinks!!). Now that we know, we can plan to navigate accordingly! Overall I must reiterate-I truly hope this place stays and does well, we need this style place abs menu in the neighborhood-there are just some things they do need to iron out or make sure patrons are aware of - hopefully they take the feedback.. Lastly, we were told we couldn't order food while waiting, though we tried to come early enough for happy hour (I sooo wanted the shrimp tacos) as they don't take reservations (please work on this) and they were not on the regular dinner menu app (else I couldn't find)..it was a bummer-so again I feel like they might be missing opportunities to get more sales, although maybe they worry table ticket will suffer? Either way, we will be back as we did all agree food was great, and staff also understood some of our challenges and were great to give us coupons to come back! read more

This is our go to spot, especially for happy hour. Great HH deals, we're fans of the frozen margs and tacos; entire menu is also good and diverse. We mostly dine on the patio so we appreciate the great music playlist and the heaters when it's cold and the misting fans when it's hot. The staff is attentive and the managers check-in frequently to make sure it's a good experience. One negative, and it's not the restaurant's fault but now that the Alamo theater business is back, expect parking to be a challenge, especially in the evening. Sigh. Dropped in recently to discover they had significantly "upscaled" their menu with commensurate prices. It seems most of the plates are now in the $30 and up range, and even the appetizers were more expensive. So Perla's prices... which is a shame because this was our favorite spot for weekend lunches on the patio when we wanted seafood without paying those Perla's prices (or having to book months in advance). I mean, I dug the Texas coaster vibe. Not everything needs to be an attempt at fine dining to be good, you know? The food is still good, but I don't know if it's worth the prices we paid. I'm leaving five stars even though I had a one star take out experience. The list of calamities is long from messing up the order, staff not knowing that Drum was a type of fish, the food being so spicy my kid cried, and the shrimp being criminally undercooked. No, I am leaving five stars because the GM Neely I think her name was, stepped up and handled my situation professionally and appropriately. I've been there before and enjoyed the food a lot. The quality of ingredients is definitely there. I've worked with the team from Oasthouse and District in the past and know their commitment to quality. I will be back, and I'm betting it will be strong. It's really hard to find quality restaurant cooks and servers at this time, but they will.
