Got take-out from Kehau's Kitchen for dinner. They do local food and Mexican food and can cater as well. We went on Taco Tuesday but somehow ended up getting local food. Portion sizes were awesome, prices were pretty standard, and the food was super good. Got the pulehu ribs with a side of spicy ahi. You could taste the salt on the ribs which I loved and the fish was very fresh. My pulehu ribs came with 2 sides, could choose between lomi salmon, potato-Mac or haupia! The haupia was a nice surprise side. My husband got the beef stew. The stew had a spicy kick, definitely not your average beef stew and definitely memorable. Haven't been here since before the pandemic. They've expanded their menu to include Mexican dishes and some local dishes; shoyu chicken, etc. I went there to eat Hawaiian food but ended up eating their Flautas plate with pork. Kehau's kitchen have been our favorite restaurant ever since it opened 5+ years ago, especially for my older son!!! Both of my sons have milk and soy allergies so we came here frequently for the kalua pork. They added a special called kalua moco and now that is our favorite!!! I share with my son and we still have left overs to go home. They let me do a special order because the Kalua moco comes with the delicious beef stew but since I'm breast feeding my second son with milk allergies I can't eat the stew that contains butter cooked meat so they put it on the side for me. My husband and my father in law gets the local boy which has so much value! See photo. My father in law takes home most of it since there is so much volume! It's not just the volume, the food tastes so good too!!! My father in law's Hawaiian blood approves the Hawaiian food here!!! He especially praised the poi here and must get it every time he comes. This place has the best kalua pork sliders hands down. We went there for lau lau and it hit the spot. They have a lot of local favorites here and their service is super friendly. If you're a local, chances are that they will remember you and treat you like family. AMBIANCE It's more of a sit down restaurant that's menu styled. You can order to-go as well. The inside isn't the most glammed but you know there's good food here so it evens out. They do have larger tables that fit 6 people too. SERVICE Everyone was super friendly and they really do treat you like family. PARKING There is a parking lot outside. This place is located at a shopping center so that's convenient. FOOD I got their lau lau combo that comes with their famous lau lau, salmon/tomato, haupia (coconut dessert) and pork ribs, and rice or poi (taro soup) It was $14 but so much food. The bread tastes like Hawaiian bread and has butter grilled to the bottom of it that adds the crunch, I think they also have mayo added in and then their juicy kalua pork added to it. I read the recent reviews regarding missing items but I never had problems when we visited Kehau's before. I ordered--a Wet burrito --looks delish! And a super combo plate with squid luau. No problems with the order. then I ordered a side of Haupia and was told they had no haupia. I was confused because the combo plate comes with haupia so I asked them about the haupia for my combo and he told me they didn't have but would give me extra lomi and I said fine. Got home and discovered I also don't have the short ribs! What's up with this? Shame on me for not checking but again, we've eaten here many times before with no problems. Disappointed that they're going down hill with wrong or perhaps misleading communication (ie lack of) to the customer. Their food isn't cheap..so when you don't get what the menu says, something is wrong. Added: what I received was rice, Kalua pig, Mac salad and 2 lomi salmon. Perhaps you should not sell Hawaiian food and focus on Mexican. Your wet burrito was great. But $22 for that plate? I don't think so. read more

From my bad customer service with poke in da run Pearl city, I decided to go on a hunt of poke nachos. Checked Yelp and this place popped up... first of all the wait is a hour for your food. So don't expect to be served right away. The poke was also mediocre; we got the Kamakazi flavor and the spicy ahi. THE FISH IS NOT FRESH unfortunately. Took 2 tries but we finally made it here and sooo glad we did! The food here is great and well priced for what you get. It's located at the Westridge strip mall across the Pearlridge Mall. Easy parking. When we sat down we got served pickled onions- they were so good we asked for more! Had the tripe stew combo which included pulehu ribs, lomi salmon, haupia and a choice of rice or poi. I also added squid luau for $4 extra. My cousin got the laulau combo and hubby got the smoke meat with rice (he also had poi) The squid luau had lots of pieces of squid, very rich. Was more sweeter than I'm used to-from I guess the coconut milk- but was rich and yummy. Our tripe stew came out tepid so we asked our server about it. She was very apologetic and took them back. Apparently the warmer wasn't set right. We soon had our piping hot stews and dug in! They certainly weren't stingy with the tripe! Every bite had tender pieces and it's wasn't overly salty like I had in some other places. In fact the food overall wasn't salty - just right. Hubby loved his smoke meat, in fact everyone loved their food. To top it off they gave us a free plate of poke bathed in sweet sauce to make up for the cold tripe stews!! Sooooo sweet!! Finished off with the haupia which was really good. The food was great, prices fair and the service was like eating with family. I saw they did a brisk business in take out too. I passed by this place several times but never stopped in. One day after a long day of Christmas shopping my friend and I popped in and wanted some Hawaiian food. Lately I've been on a Kalua pig kick and wanted to try their version of it so I got the Kalua pig combo that came with Pulehu chicken, haupia, lomi salmon, and rice. What a combo! The pig had so much flavor and it wasn't too salty (some versions I've tried had so much salt) which I liked. The Pulehu chicken that came with it had such a good flavor to it and I definitely wanted to order a plate of that to go. Maybe next time I will try the Pulehu ribs. read more

My husband and I were on our way to the Waikele Outlets and we wanted to find a place to eat. I did a Yelp search and found Keheau's Kitchen. It's a small, cozy family run place. Nothing fancy, just good food with decent portions and very friendly workers. We ordered the following: Lau Lau Combo ($12.50): it has Pork Lau Lau, Pulehu Short Ribs, Haupia, Lomi Salmon (I substituted it for extra Haupia) and Rice - It was yummy!! Unfortunately, I like Helena's better but this is a great place to go before going to the outlets. Local Girl ($12.50): It has Kalua Pork, Pulehu Meat and Mac Salad with Brown Gravy - My husband liked it but he's also a fan of Helena's. Spicy Tuna Poke: Yum!!! The tuna was the perfect size 1/2"x1/2" with lots of spicy sauce and crunchy roe. We'll go here again before we go to the Outlets. read more

Yelp did it again! I was looking for an authentic plate lunch place and yelpers brought me to this hidden gem in Oahu. I love pork and short ribs and was really in the mood for this! Upon entering I could quickly tell that this place was the real deal. All locals were eating it seemed so I knew I was in the right place. I knew what I wanted before arriving (thanks yelp) and the meal didn't diassapoint....except for 1 thing. NO SAUCES ARE AVAILABLE?!? WHAT?!?! I took 1 bite of the pork and it was tender juicy and quite salty. My favorite aspect of Hawaiian food is the katsu sauce. I love the mixture of adding sweetness to salty dishes. I asked if they had katsu sauce and was looked at like I said something in a different language. I just got stared at...so I asked "do you have any sauces of any kind " I was told no....hmmm...that's weird or maybe all my experiences were wrong and this is the traditional way... Well it was good but REALLY needed some sauce with sweetness imho. The salmon chopped up stuff that looks like pico was super tasty. No complaints and lastly the coconut milk based dessert was a really nice treat. Their chicken long rice was like a ginger heaven with a unique miso style flavor. And their kale pork sliders was ono! All this at an affordable/fair cost... I was impressed! I grew up in Kona and am a big fan of Hawaiian food. On the Big Island, it's very easy to find places with great lau-lau, lomi salmon, kalua pork, etc but on Oahu, not so easy. Usually when I get a hankering for some good Hawaiian food, I head over to Highway Inn for their ono plate lunch. Well my good friend introduced me to another place, Kehau's Kitchen. Tucked away on the first level, this quiet shop serves some truly excellent Hawaiian food! The kalua pork was not too salty, not too dried and was served in generous portions. Ditto on the lomi salmon, poi and haupia (which was so light it melts in your mouth). The service was great and food was served hot. I love this place and will soon be back again. My my my, what a great surprise! I almost don't want to write this review so you don't have high expectations when you go here. Anyways, it was a Sunday night with out-of-town guests only in for one night wanting to eat Hawaiian food. In town, there is no Hawaiian food place to eat at on a Sunday night, so we made the long town-y journey to the Pearlridge area. Our party of 7 sat down at 7:30 pm, and even though they close at 8:00 pm, they greeted us with joy. My guests ordered the traditional Hawaiian foods and loved it. As for me? I was doing a clean eating (no alcohol, no caffeine, no refined sugar, no processed foods) to prepare for my 5 day juice cleanse so all I could have was the lomi salmon and chicken long rice. But I don't eat chicken. I was trying to pick out the chicken and had a REALLY REALLY hard time. The waitress noticed and she asked if I wanted it without chicken? I was like HELL YAH! And within minutes was a bowl of chicken long rice, no chicken... My absolute favorite dish. I was in heaven. And the bowl was BIG! I was so happy. I told her I'd even pay for the second bowl they made for me, but they didn't! So much aloha. Living on the leeward side, it's hard to find good and new restaurants, but with my trusty yelp, lo and behold, i didn't know this hole in the wall existed, and i've been missing out for the two years they've been open, always passing pearl kai thinking it's the same restaurants there. Considering there's only a few restaurants serving hawaiian food on oahu, and this place as one of only 2 in pearl city, i'm glad i found this gem: Laulau hawaiian plate - 3 1/2 stars - big chunk of pork in the laulau, but not as much leaves. Comes with haupia, shortribs, lomi salmon and rice or poi for $1 more. For around $3 more, we could order another side, so i chose tripe stew which was average tasting, and a decent size bowl. Squid luau - 5 stars - this was the best i've tasted with a smoked flavor to it. However, it was a bit oily so it was hard to digest it all. Service - 5 stars - we saw kehau, but the waitress (i think her name was kekai) made our lunch interesting than a usual restaurant serving our food. We are a bit of nacho connoisseurs, so when we started looking for an early meal after driving back from enjoying North Shore, Kehau's Kitchen popped up. We have enjoyed various types and styles of nachos, but have yet to encounter Poke Nachos Well man are we glad we stopped. A lot of places will tell you their nachos are a mountain, but this reminded us of our recent hike of Koko crater. A mountain of delicious food that would definitely feed at least two hungry travelers. But what differentiates good nachos and amazing nachos is the volume of toppings to chips. We absolutely hate getting to the middle/bottom of nacho plates and just having to snack on bland chips because the toppings were only one layer deep. The Poke Nachos @ Kehau's had about 95% of their chips well covered. My wife and I got a piece of poke on about 80% of the chips, and the others were basically drenched in sauces and green onions. And if you need another reason to enjoy these nachos, the chips are all freshly fried flour tortillas rather than bulk bagged. Just delicious. We also ordered a quesadilla a la carte for our babe, and it came out very plain, but we weren't expecting much. We came for nachos, and we were VERY HAPPY with that decision read more

Pretty solid Hawaiian Food and definitely one of the better food options in the Aiea/Pearl City area. I liked the homemade chili pepper water. We used it on the stew, lomi salmon, lau lau, and pig. It made everything better. The food was really good. The lau Lau was cooked well and had a lot of meat and butterfish. The pig tasted like imu style kind. And the stew had a nice flavor. The lomi was like other places and good. The pulehu ribs was tasty. And the haupia was a nice way to finish off our meal. Good Hawaiian food place, especially if in Aiea. They are a small restaurant in the same mall as Makino Chaya. I feel they are slightly expensive but I suppose most Hawaiian food isn't that cheap if not take-out. I really enjoyed my food here- got their Laulau Combo (with Puhele meat and haupia) and added a "Super" combo go get Kalua pig (tender and finely stripped). I definitely didn't account for the large portion sizes and ended up needing to take home some (which was a plus to my family!). My favorite items here are their Kalua Pork Sliders (nice thin, crisp buns with flavorful Kalua pig inside) and their haupia. Banana bread is also good but not a "must try" as much as their sliders and haupia. Would recommend! read more
