Fantastic waitress, Alicia. Great service. Casual atmosphere, clean and quiet. Nice decor on the walls. They have wonderful cornbread. I ordered the special stuffed chicken breast with mashed potatoes and corn. The chicken breast was a bit dry but all I had to do was mix it in the gravy and potatoes. The sweet tea was on point. My friend ordered the catfish and shrimp and enjoyed it except for the tartar sauce that didn't look too appetizing. We skipped dessert because it was too much food. I'm tempted to give Kelly's country cooking 5 stars. However, there are some things they could improve. I think it would be difficult to achieve since they have am amazing price. Overall, I don't think you will fund better country food for cheaper in Houston. The breads mediocre, but it's free and still decent. Some of the food is slightly bland. Dined in here for dinner with my boyfriend today and my boyfriend had got the chicken fried steak, I had got bbq potato. My bbq potato was great but my boyfriend's chicken fried steak wasn't. He said how it was too salty and had way too much batter. He did not like it and barely touched it, I proceeded to tell our server the problem and she took the plate but the manager took only $6 off the bill on a $16.99 plate. It should have been taken off the bill completely considering the fact it was gross to us and we didn't even eat 1/6th of the plate and the plate was never even returned back to us after making us pay for it. Making customers pay for something they don't like and didn't eat is CRAZY. Our server on the other hand she was amazing and very sweet, she did a great job! read more

Great service. Reasonable prices - $12.99 for the daily specials. The chicken fried steak was good. The meat loaf could be better. There was no topping on the meatloaf like ketchup or gravy. It came with 3 sides and a roll and a cornbread muffin. Had to ask for honey and hot sauce. Our sides were carrot and raisins salad (very good), fried Okra (OK), red beans and rice (good), broccoli and cheese caserole(poor). We hadn't been here in years. Pat took over half of her chicken fried steak home with some of the sides. It had been years since either of us had been here and it was just the same except for higher prices. I hate giving low reviews but, in this case I have no choice. I will leave out names but, my check/ticket number was 313. We came in and sat down and was greeted by a very nice lady. My was spoke Spanish so we were we able to get through our drink orders and got menus. After that it just went down hill. Our waitress came by and took our order and after about 15 mins it arrived, not too bad honestly on time. I ordered a hamburger steak with the (3) customary sides. One of my sides did not show up (salad with ranch dressing), I figured no big deal as our server left went back to kitchen. Then about 10 mins later another server came and asked if I had received my salad. I said no and asked if I could get a side of jalapeño's, he responded yes sir and off he went back to kitchen. As I watched our waitress wait on other tables and the server go to other tables, still no salad. I finally just gave up and figured the salad and jalapeños were not coming. Lo and behold, I finished my meal and here comes the waitress with my salad and side of jalapeños. She went to sat them down and I politely said, I will not be needing either of those now. She asked if I wanted the salad to go, I politely said no and asked her to please look at the salad. It had brown spots on the lettuce and looked like it was pushing a week old already. As my wife was finishing her food and our daughter showed up, I was looking down at floor and thought there was a moth crawling on floor by table. NOPE it was a roach, I tried to let the one server know without making a scene and that was not possible. I finally gave up and I needed to go to bathroom at that point. Upon entering the bathroom, all you could smell was old stale urine. At this time I went and got my wife asked for check and lo and behold, I still got charged for a full meal. Lol By far my worst experience and hate to say it my last. After this night, I will not be dinning at Kelly's ever again. What started as a great place to eat, has turned into one of the worst. I can only imagine if the bathroom condition and the fact a roach crawling across dinning room floor in all the light what the kitchen looks like. Beware and take caution if you dine here. read more

One thing for sure, bring your appetite. They start you off with hot rolls and cornbread muffins. When ordering consider doing the small platters of food. The two egg omelette looked more like 4 eggs with a heaping help of hash browns. The hash brown was mushy and had no crisp texture and was bland, the bread was bland and soft and the eggs were okay. The meatloaf was also a little bit bland and the country-fried steak was on the thinner side and also was decent at best. We went for breakfast about 9ish. The atmosphere was warm and friendly like a local hometown Mom & Pop you'd go to when you were a kid. We got the famous chicken fried steak meal and a waffle. I was seriously thing of trying the stuffed biscuits. I will definitely have them next time. The coffee taste perfect,the cups were surprisingly small making the servers have to check up more than they would need. They were already very attentive, friendly and helpful. Our food tasted so amazingly good. My tummy is growling for more just writing this. The portions are well worth the prices. They should consider having some type of mobile device like a gurney or wheelchair to roll you to your car afterwards because you about to slip into a food coma after eating all that delicious food. On the way out I saw what they call the "Texas" size chicken fried steak. Smh. That thing could feed a family of six it's so big. I have been to Kelly's many times for breakfast which is always amazing and delicious with big portions for pancakes and sides. This time tried the dinner specials I got meat loaf my husband got the breakfast and my son got the 3 piece catfish combo. My husband enjoyed his breakfast pancakes. I on the other hand did not enjoy my food at all. The meatloaf was a nice size but it lacked flavor and tasted horrible plus it was not cooked all the way it was still pink in the middle. Also it came with brown gravy which I don't like. I normally get my meatloaf with the tomato sauce on top never with brown gravy and the waiter didn't even ask me what kind of toppings I wanted for the sauce. My son catfish was good it was fresh and hot. Every was made to order. I would have taken my food back or got something else but my husband had to go to work so I didn't worry about asking them to replace or refund it. Next time I will just get the catfish. read more

Very terrible service today. It was 22 minutes before any staff approached our table. After our drink order it was another 18 minutes waiting to order breakfast for our table of 6. 17 minutes later food arrives with never to be seen again waitress Sandra S. The other staff was continually filling our coffee and water but no sign of Sandra S. Alas the check arrives with her smiling face only to questions of poor service and extra charge for an item that was on the menu picture but was not included. The extra charge was not the issue but the lack of service was completely unacceptable. The last three visits have been, to say the least terrible and today will be the last time to this establishment. I have been eating here for that 20 years and when I lived in the gulf gate area are at the original location. In the 80's and 90's. Thank you for the food for the past 20 years but will never be back again. If anyone asks about eating there I will remind them of my experiences and let them decide. "I grew up on Kelley's!" So says a friend in Atlanta who grew up in the Houston area. Recommended by my dad's boss, my family made the trek from Spring to the Pasadena location in February 2020 to try some of their famous cuisine. We're Louisiana natives--New Orleans and Baton Rouge--with VERY judgmental palates. We've been let down more often than not out here, but Kelley's Country Cookin did NOT disappoint. I host "MyScene TV," an entertainment and small business broadcast in Baton Rouge and on YouTube, and I'm friends with the community manager for Yelp in Louisiana's capital city. So I have a natural affinity for family-owned businesses as they especially tend to offer much better products, with far better prices and exceptional service. But we didn't expect, unlike national chains, such openness between tables in the large location. Our drinks were plenty and our orders as...um...*nuanced* as usual. But while we waited, we were served what amounted to a tray of human-sized rolls and corn muffins (REAL Southern food), in addition to my dad's entree-sized chili cheese fries appetizer. By the time our meals came, everybody was full! The kid's meal was nearly adult-sized, the adults' meals were impossible to finish and six meals plus two appetizers added up to less than $100! My goddaughters' well-done steak was cooked to perfection, the fries crispy and the seafood divine. Their hash browns were made fresh and a little extra salt made them right on the money. Enthralled, we returned later that month for more of their delicious offerings. The whole facility was very clean, with an equally friendly and rather diverse staff. Very disappointed and Kelly's today I haven't ordered from there in a long time and I remember why. I ordered three meal's to go but only received one had to go back. I had also ordered a drink which I didn't receive have to go back again. On top of them not giving me my whole order they charge me $.49 times x3 for a "to go charge" wow, never seen that before. Food was good. Nice big burger and large onion rings. Waitress was rude, when my friend asked for extra salad dressing, she said that will cost you $1.98 extra. That's ok but I was buying his lunch and didn't need to hear that. When she brought his salad she said, we were out of small bowls so I had to give you a large one. The salad dressing was small however and didn't cover the large salad. When my friend asked for a additional small salad dressing, she said that would be an additional $0.98. My friend and I went for dinner. We sat down and our server took our order. We requested cornbread before dinner. Our server, Sandra, brought the cornbread without plates. We used a napkin. She brought our food and then disappeared. When we finally got our check, she dropped it & walked away. We went to the counter to pay. I tried to use a visa gift card, but it was declined. I asked her to rerun it & she displayed attitude. I said no need to be ugly, I will use another card. Due to her lack of attention during dinner, I didn't tip her. She said something out loud, but we didn't understand her. My friend said, "excuse me?"; Sandra said "none of your business, I was talking to myself"! I asked for a manager. Sandra looked over the back wall & said "Sara you better get out here before I flip my lid". The manager came up, Sandra immediately told the manager we had an attitude and showed we didn't tip her.
