We have eaten here a few times now. Everything we have eaten has been tasty, made well, timely, and correct. The restaurant itself is what I would consider fast-food but it's not a place you feel rushed to leave. I've been waiting to try Kelly's since they opened on university ave in Sarasota, but just now tried the new place in Parrish. I really want to like this place, because I love good old fashioned roast beef sandwiches from around this great country, and nostalgic establishments, but this has me thinking what went wrong. I'm on the fence for a few reasons; 1st off our onion rings were bland, no good crunchy coating and slightly undercooked, the roast beef was a good quality meat I guess but bland and cold??? The bread was tasty but the cheese was not melted and the thinnest slice of cheese I've ever seen on a restaurant sandwich, maybe not melted due to the cold roast beef. I really feel there is potential with this sandwich, maybe by adding a sauce and asking for it to be warm, I'm puzzled, remember no suggestions were given when I asked. My guest had the fish and chips, he said it was bland and the batter was dry and dull. If you want vinegar you must ask they are not going to offer it. I personally like the place itself , I like the clean casual look for a no frills afternoon lunch vibe, but I must say the staff lacked energy, they were not informative about how to order, did not ask if we needed anything else etc etc. I think this restaurant needs some tweaking. I am not giving up on the roast beef sandwich or Kelly's just yet. I will be back to try again for good measure, for I really want this place to work so I can enjoy a good roast beef sandwich other than Arby's. read more

I will never dig to this Kelly's again We had a party of 6. We all agreed horrible. My husband and I got a roast beef sandwich to split an order of clams and a scallop plate trophy roast beef sandwich. The bread was hard. The roast beef was dry the scallops. I thought they were hush puppies. They were so dark I couldn't even dip them because the bat fell off The clams. I asked for an order of clams and no plate. She brought the plate. I told her I didn't order that. She said it's the same thing I said that's not what I ordered. She said that's the same thing she argued with me. I took it. It was six clams on the plate. We spent $75 and threw half of it in the barrel we should've complained while we were there, but we with another couple and the little girl Never again this is the second time we've been there second time very subpar food. read more

It was founded in Revere, Massachusetts in 1951. Growing up on the North Shore in Massachusetts. We spent many summers coming to Revere Beach for Kelly's Roast Beef. I remembering ordering the The Original Roast Beef and the onion rings. It's very nostalgic to me. We were visiting my parents in Venice and drove past a Kelly's on the way to the airport. We had to stop in and try a roast beef sandwich and boy did it not disappointed. One bite and it brought me back to my childhood. The roast beef is sliced fresh in house. The roast beef is very rare and the bbq sauce has a nice little spice to it. You can add cheese and mayonnaise if you want. That's how I always order it and I really like it this way. I ordered the 3 Way Large Roast Beef Special. For those of you not in the know, a 3 Way is BBQ Sauce, Mayonnaise and American Cheese. Next time you go to Kelly's order it as a three-way and they will know what you are taking about. Some people even like my Dad who grew up a neighboring town to Revere and a long time patron of Kelly's didn't know what a three-way meant. I was at the aquarium in Mote earlier in the day and I told my Dad I was looking forward to the three-way later and he looked at me with this umm..okay look and so did the other people around us. I obviously clarified what I meant. Now you know. The service was very good. The cashier was very helpful and attentive. They gave service with smile which is a rare thing these days. She even gave my son a Kelly's Rubber Ducky. That was very nice of her! On Tuesdays, Kids eat free with the purchase of an adult sized meal. We took advantage of this deal as I have a young child. Win-Win! I wanted him to try the Roast Beef Sandwich, but like most young kids they like what they like and he ordered the hot dog special. On a side note, the French fries are perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. Sad they have eliminated Ipswich fried clams. Also, they seem to be adding a thickening agent to the clam chowder. Very ick. Used to be real Kelly's clam chowder. Where do you start? Friendly staff greet you at the counter while you ponder the extensive menu but their roast beef is why you go at least the first time. It's a nice place not overly large but comfortable tables and booths to accommodate us well endowed fellas. Not loud or noisy which is nice for holding a conversation. The roast beef sandwiches were amazing. Mine was with creamed horseradish, pickle and red onion. Others had combos with cheese and au jus sauce. The fries were done nice and hot and crispy and the onion rings were well done. Order at the counter, take a number and like magic your order will be brought to your table. read more

Was in Sarasota today and decided to have lunch at Kelley's. I'm from New England and was used to their roast beef sandwiches. Their roast beef is better than any deli could hope to give you. It is very tender and cooked to perfection. You can get different sauces to put on it but i chose the au jus and just dipped the sandwich in it. The bun was toasted as well. read more

Kelly's has a fantastic roast beef sandwich. I'm a huge fan of it's cousins Chicago Italian beef and buffalo's beef on Weck. They cook. It perfectly and sliced thin. I got mine with cheese bbq and horseradish sauce. It was delicious. Lisa made me feel like family. They also have seafood like lobster rolls, shrimp, scallops and clams. Clean spot and fairly priced. I can't wait for the Parrish location to open. Great place and super nice people. read more

I really wanted to Love Kelly's but it was a little bit of a disappointment. The quality of the Roast Beef was really good but the temperature was semi warm. It was sort of odd because it wasn't even warm enough to melt the cheese. As another reviewer mentioned the sesame seed bun was somewhat tasteless. The French fries were really disappointing. Somewhat hard but not from overcooking. Just, typical out of a bag frozen fries that had none of the qualities which make them so tempting to most people. The New England Frappe style chocolate shake tasted like frozen ice with chocolate flavoring. A traditional milk shake would be significantly more desirable. The nice woman at the counter pointed out to me (because she heard me say it was my first time) that the clam chowder was a bit thin. She was absolutely correct. It had good flavor but could use a little more body to it. I will probably give Kelly's another try and eat some of the other things on the menu. I've been driving by this place for awhile but never stopped in until today. I got there about 2:15pm so luckily I missed the lunch crowd. The place was very light and clean with the music at a comfortable level. Since it was my first time, I came in with the intentions of getting a roast beef sandwich, but my eyes got drawn all over the menu, as everything looked pretty good. But I stuck to my guns and got a large roast beef sandwich and a side of onion rings. I have to say that I really enjoyed the food as it was prepared fresh and was very tasty. I would definitely order the same items again but I may be tempted to try some of the other items on the menu. As a traveling rep, Sarasota is in my territory. I tried Kelly's for the first time. I had the big Roast Beef Sandwich. Plenty of meat, but cooked to perfection. Mayo and their sauce were great. Word of caution- Don't get the Onion Rings unless their is two of you- HUGE Portion of absolutely perfect Onion Rings. I do wish they had a small size. The Service was friendly fast and efficient! It is about 3.5 stars. Not yet 5 stars. This Boston restaurant has a branch here. It is very popular in Sarasota due to nearby community. I got buy one get free coupon and decided to try it. The gem of of the store is 3 way roast beef. Their roast beef is perfect on the taste. Not too salty in compare to most roast beef place. The BBQ sauce is nice to accompany the roast beef. I also got the lobster roll. I would go for the large lobster roll because only 5 dollars extra you get 50% more lobster meat. The lobster roll is good in compare to many lobster we have here. Totally disappointed 10-26-25. Boston fans of Kelly's Roast Beef, the location on University Parkway, Bradenton might as well be just another burger franchise. They no longer have the Kelly's signature menu. No Fish, clams, lobster rolls. They have the roast beef but not has it was with Kelly's not even their clam chowder is like it was under Kelly's. Their cups no longer have the Kelly logo and most of the pictures from Revere Beach have been taken down. Looks like this location will be gone pretty soon. From Boston many memories going to Kelly's on the beach and in Saugus. My Husband and I were so excited when we found out a Kelly's was opening in Sarasota, FL for we now live in Englewood, FL and were there the 1st day it opened and several times after. But yesterday was a shock. I personally think the location was not great. So many restaurants around this location. I think Englewood, FL would have been a great location. Yes, we have restaurants that have fish, clams, lobster but the taste is not the same as how it is done with Kelly's. A taste of home. Y'all know about cheesesteaks from Philly. Deep Dish from Chicago. Chili from Cincinnati. Well, to those from the north shore of Massachusetts we have the roast beef sandwich. There are many establishments that make these but Kelly's started on Revere Beach decades ago and has now franchised. The roast beef is supposed to be served warm and rare with James River BBQ sauce (has a bite) Mayo and a slice of white American cheese. That's a traditional 3 way. It's home to us from the North Shore. If you order it to go it's going to be soggy. Eat it in to experience it the right way. Kelly's also offers a few items that bring us home too. The fried fish (cod) was solid. The onion rings were on point. The scallops were mid. I didn't try their fried clams, lobster roll or chowder so I can't opine on those. The food was good, but a bit pricey. I like that you can customize your sandwiches where you pick the topping that you want without extra charges. The fries were delicious with a salt and pepper flavor, and I'm not usually a big fry person. The only downside was the sandwich was kind of cold. I would've loved for the beef to be a little warmer and cheese to be melted. The taste was good, but I am more of an Italian Beef kind of girl. The aus jus was warm and had a great flavor to it. The sandwiches were generously sized and my husband and i were both full after half of a beef sandwich. The service was attentive and friendly. Food came out quickly. The restaurant itself was small, clean, and well kept. The fountain drinks were filled behind the counter, so i am not sure if refills are included. This was our first time at Kelly's. They're from the northeast and this is one of their newest locations in Florida. I definitely prefer an Italian beef since I'm originally from Chicago, but this isn't half bad. The counter staff was friendly and helpful. The seating is comfortable. The sandwich was big enough for my wife and I to split one for dinner. Test and temp were both a little bland for me, but the French fries were the star of the show. The menu has a wide variety of offerings -- but I was there for the roast beef. Great sandwich and the side of onion rings was awesome. Portions are large enough to feed multiple people. Is this place a little expensive for a fast casual (no, it's not fast food) meal. Maybe. But look, prices are high everywhere. A box of cereal is $7 and a decent meal at 5 Guys is $18. These are the times we live in -- if you can't afford to eat out , then stay at home instead of complaining about it. What started out a ZERO rating became a two. The young lady taking our order was pleasant. $30 large lobster roll. When server delivered to table, 1/4 of the lobster fell off the plate and onto the table surface. His fault. Without pausing, the server looked at us and suggested "it's okay to eat, the table is clean". Horrified, I suggested he eat it and then go back and make it right. After much kitchen deliberation, the lobster was replaced with fresh. With this type of indifference, Kelly's won't last long in Sarasota. read more

I got the fish plate with french fries. I have to be gluten free with no cross contamination. When I ordered my meal they put an allergy warning and called back to a separate second kitchen for them to make my meal. The meal was great and I enjoyed it. The best part that very rarely happens is there was NO up charge for my gluten free and Safe meal. Most places charge an extra $2 to $10 dollars depending on the meal. The portion was large and I had to take a whole piece of dish home which is not normal for a fast casual restaurant. I 100% recommend Kelly's. read more

Kind of bummed about this place. Saw a Facebook ad and realized it was near the office so I took one of my salesmen there for lunch. The restaurant was immaculate inside, but also almost empty at 1:15PM. Menu looks awesome, with a lot of great options. I went for the Roast Beef 3-ways and a cup of clam chowder on the side. Unsweet tea to drink. My rep ordered a small lobster roll which came with chips, and a cup of water. Total bill was an eye watering $50.00, so expectations were pretty high. The food came out and both of us thought they can't be serious. The sandwich was fine, served on a tiny plate. It tasted good but wasn't hot, and certainly not triple the price of an Arby's sandwich better. The cup of clam chowder was TINY, for $6.95. Watery and not very good. My iced tea was missing something critical: the ice. My real issue was the $24.95 lobster roll that came with a bag of chips. It was literally 3 bites and gone, as if there should have been double what was actually served. Seems like the place has potential but I'm not planning on returning. The counter service was excellent. It's the only place I've been where the counter server told me to skip the tip option and accept the total. I appreciated that. Would have been nice if I had been told that cups of water are free before I bought a bottle, but I did get all refills in a cup (I have to drink a lot when I eat for esophageal reasons). I did find it a tad odd that when they bring your food to the table that they don't include napkins or plastic ware. Not a huge deal,but something I learned during this, my first fist. Started with the Lobster Roll as my mouth was watering for the taste of Cape Cod that has been burned in my mind since years gone by in Chatham. 2000% disappointed. Best single word description is "tasteless". Literally like biting into a piece of lobster that was just unfrozen and still soaked with freezer burn dredged in lemon and celery water. The roast beef itself wasn't much better if at all. One word description here would be "bland". All in all our experience would have rated a solid "eh" rating and given them a 3, but when all of this is combined with a 20-minute wait in a drive thru line, which was extended as they had to fix the wrong order for the lady in front of us, I was kind with a 2.
