Excellent Roast Beef. The lobster roll was good, but not enough lobster meat for the price. It's nice they have a drive thru.

We went to Kelly's Roast Beef because they are supposed to be known for lobster rolls. There was a long line to place an order but it moved quickly. The staff seemed hard working and things moved quickly. There were 4 of us and two ordered small rolls and one ordered large. The large was $29.95 - the most expensive I've ever seen anywhere. When the food was delivered to the table all the tools looked small and incredibly the looked the same size as each other. We asked the server to check that it really was as a large roll. All of the rolls were smaller than commonly served elsewhere! Good staff, clean premises, poor value for money spent. read more

Best feature is the employees. All doing their best. HOWEVER, the food is downright awful. Including tax & tip, paid $20 for a roast beef plate and $37 for a clam plate. We were craving those two items from the Kelly's in Saugus MA. Big mistake.Food came out cool at best. Roast Beef was not fresh. The grease used to cook the onion rings need to either be changed or upgraded. We ate there when they first opened and things were ok. Not great but passable. Today's meal was NOT even close to passable. I do not write negative reviews but feel the management of this location needs to improve their product. Word gets around quite quickly around here. Meh! $37 (with 15% tip for no reason) got us 2 roast beef sandwiches and fries, and one drink. Bland roast beef with no flavor (needs salt and pepper at least). Condiments are commercial. Totally missed the branding. Kelly's back story confined to one mention on a graphic on one wall. No "Boston" stuff anywhere - in fact no decoration anywhere. Having lived in Boston, I have to admit I never heard of Kelly's. Their special roast beef isn't special unless you are comparing it to Arby's. The bun is just a hamburger bun. The fries are nothing special. I do not like fish, but the smell of fish is everywhere in the restaurant (and on the menu). 100% DISAPPOINTED in this place and mad that I wasted money and calories on this sub-par meal. I've eaten at the Kelly's in Logan and thought it was good, so I was glad to see it opened in Sarasota. I came around 5 on a Friday and was suspicious because there weren't many diners. I had a clam roll, and it was quite good. It came with onion rings, which were really good and fries. It's expensive for a fast food type of place, but the food is far better than fast food. Hopefully more people will eat there because the service and food are good. read more

We decided to give Kelly's another chance. I was texted a coupon for bogo roast beef sandwiches. I ordered 2 large roast beef sandwiches and paid the 2.00 up charge. a large fry and a large diet soda. The roast beef was piled high and very fresh. It was beautifully medium rare, but it was cold. The roll is a sesame bun, very plain tasting. From the moment I bit into the sandwich, I got a very peppery taste. I looked under the bun and the meat was overly peppered. I ate the sandwich, however the peppery taste ruined which could have been, a yummy sandwich. I even had lettuce, tomato and some onion on it, but it didn't cut the strong pepper taste. The large fries were hard and over cooked and very skimpy for 4.99! Also, maybe New Englanders like a soft roll on a roast beef sandwich, but a good Kaiser roll would be better... imo I'm not seeing a 3rd chance in the future... read more

First time at Kelly's. The large roast beef was on a lightly toasted brioche bun, generous amount of beef. However the beef was bland, needed more seasoning. We were expecting it to be similar to other roast beef sandwiches we've had in Massachusetts. We were also surprised they didn't have coffee frappe, common in New England restaurants. read more

I really wanted to like this I truly did but I was so disappointed. We went on a week night for dinner. I ordered the large lobster roll with fries. Husband ordered the large roast beef sandwich with fries. There were other items on the menu to try but we thought we would go for the items most advertised and noted for. The price was not a shock bc I knew what a lobster roll was and they are expensive. We got our number and went to a table that we had to clean ourselves. Workers were standing around the order counter but it appeared that only one person was tasked with cleaning tables and emptying trash. Thank goodness there were cleaning wipes available at the napkin and tray return area. Well that put me off. Then our food was ready, and was delivered. I wish I had taken a photo. My lobster roll was sad looking. No where did they say it would be served ice cold with celery on a warm Parker house like roll. Actually the roll was okay but the amount and chill of the lobster put me off. And it was chewy tough rather than a buttery tender taste that I expected. I spent 30 dollars on that roll. The roast beef sandwich was an average roast beef that I thought too rare but at that price we expected better condiments than just a take out size packet of mayonnaise. The taste was an under seasoned roast beef that really Boarshead from Publix tastes better. The fries were hot and tasty and seasoned appropriately. Are we picky eaters? No but we love to eat and eat out plenty. And enjoy really good food that is well seasoned, tasty and priced appropriately. We'll do another try at this place for other menu items and see if we change our minds. After all they are new and maybe it was an off night. But I'm sticking to this review of lobster roll and roast beef. read more

Ordered delivery, cheeseburgers were the worst EVER. Everything was stale except for the Mayo and ketchup! Stale overrrr cooked patty, fries were dry and stale, like they were kept warm for 2 days! Decided to give Kelly's a try one day, as the line for Chik Fil A (next door on University) was too long. Initially didn't even realize it was there, as a tree is overshadowing their visiblity. Did the drive thru. Such a great find! DELICIOUS freshly prepared roast beef, tasty grilled sesame bun, and friendly attentive customer service. I ordered the small roast beef sandwich just to give it a try, which was plenty ample...ordered without bbq sauce as I'm not a fan of that on roast beef. You have options in customizing it. I did horseradish mayo sauce, and swiss cheese...there are a few cheese options as well as other condiments. Have since been back 3X. Each time giving it a 5* for the quality of the sandwich. Each sandwich is sliced to order, thus takes 3-4 minutes at the drive thru. I look forward to trying the onion rings and maybe fried shrimp on a future visit. We are from Boston and have not found decent seafood since we moved here in 2009. Everyone sells clam strips, not whole belly clams. Well, Kelly's does just like in Revere, MA. The food was great. My wife got the Whole Belly Clam Roll, and I got the scallop dinner. It was a bit pricey $72 for 2 dinners and 2 drinks. But we thoroughly enjoyed it. Went here without huge expectations, I read some negative reviews and it influenced me a bit without deciding for myself; well, this place was great! I ordered basic, large roast beef sandwich, fries, and a drink, $16; it was worth every penny, the RB was cooked perfectly, the bun, delicious and fresh, and the fries were fries, hard to mess up. I was STUFFED after and I will return. The place reminded of roll and roaster in Brooklyn, damn I miss that place!! read more

Got to Sarasota in Dec for 4 months. Saw the ad for Kelly's. 1 free birthday sandwich and $5 off next order. Got 2 large roast beef sandwiches. Took them home, when we opened the sandwiches, Gross, the meat and buns were red like blood. No flavor whatsoever. So dissapointed, just glad we only paid $5 for them. We will go to Arbys from now on. There you get flavored roast beef and much better prices. Really wanted to like it, but we definitely did not. read more

Second time giving this place a chance and nothing to write home about. Ordered the fish and chips and a reuben for a total $32 and that doesn't even include a drink. The fish had a very potent fishy smell with zero flavor, got about 10 fries total. Had 2 bites of the fish and threw out the rest. The Reuben was greasy and again, lacked flavor. Love the roast beef, very tender. BBQ is a bit peppery. Just the way I like it. Bun is grilled with butter. Onion rings are outstanding. Thin and crispy. I haven't tried the other fried food or lobster. Refills on the sodas. New England style frappes (milk shakes). But no coffee flavor! read more

This was the worst experience my husband and I have had at a restaurant where you order your food at the counter. We ordered, upgraded chips to onion rings. When we got our order, there were no onion rings, only chips. I politely told the worker that I had upgraded to onion rings. He very loudly and in a rude tone said, "No, you didn't" and walked off. I went to the front and asked the girl I had placed the order with, and she confirmed that I had ordered onion rings. The worker then threw the ticket in the air and told the cashier, "Well then you get 'em." The manager came over and began explaining what the worker's ticket said in the back, which made no difference, as the worker's behavior was rude and inappropriate. The manager continued to try and condone his behavior and behave unprofessionally until we just said we didn't need to hear anymore. As for the food, the roast beef sandwich was tasteless. The rueben was mediocre. And the onion rings, which we finally got, were very greasy. And, this place is expensive!! It was $30 for 2 sandwiches and a side of onion rings. All in all, this was a terrible experience. I would never recommend this place to anyone. And, we will never go back. read more

The clam chowder had clams ams good flavor, the onion rings had potential but fell a bit short. I am from Massachusetts and have been to both kelly's Roast Beef locations in Revere and in Danvers. Food is very good at both of these locations along with big portions. Today I ate at the Sarasota Fl location. I was so disappointed in the quality and quantity of the food received. There was literally 7 baby clams, four onion rings, a handful of fries on the bottom, and a greasy square piece of fish that was not seasoned at all for $29.00. Served on a paper plate. My friend got shrimp & fish that consisted of 3 butterfly shrimp that looked like they were previously frozen and thrown in a fryer and fish was greasy, unseasoned and very small portion another $29.00. We ended up leaving hungry, and going next-door to Stonewood Grill & Tavern to eat again. Wish we had gone there in the first place. I do not recommend going to this Kelly's Roast Beef unless you're on a diet. Never have I gone to a place to eat and left hungry. Will never return & wont be going to other locations after this experience. read more

VERY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE GOOD FOOD HORRIBLE STAFF me and my mom went there to eat lunch and when the lady went to go get our drinks she only gave me a tea and I order a coke and a tea and I said I ordered a coke as well and she said she already gave it to me and I said not you didn't and she kept claiming she gave me it when she never did and raised her voice at me and then she turned around and saw she left it on the soda machine and then gave it to me and then when the man brought our food we waited over 25 minutes and we were the only people sitting in there and he did not bring my fries and I wanted a hot lobster roll not a cold one so he took it back and made a new one and then the same lady that yelled at us over drinks brought back my food and spilled half my fries on the tray and yelled at me and my mom saying we never made hot lobster rolled before we just started and it was not true because me and my mom had one before and she kept cutting us off when we were talking and then she asked me to grab my fries off the tray and did not offer to bring new ones when she spilled them HOW DISCUSSING AND DISRESPECTFUL I paid for it and for her to argue with me and tell me I'm a liar is wrong I'm the customer and the customer is always right that's a fact I want a refund very disappointed don't come here unless you want to be called a liar by a cashier and want your food spilled read more

This Kelly's is awesome! Am from North Shore in MA and grew up going to Kelly's in Revere Beach. It was always THE spot for roast beef and fried seafood. Their scallops are the best and clams are excellent too. Roast beef there has always been exceptional and so have the lobsta rolls. I've moved out of MA 30 years ago and am thrilled to be close again to a terrific Kelly's. The Assist Mgr at this Kelly's is also from the North Shore and she is wonderful. I am confident that she is the key to the consistently premier food and experience here at Kelly's of Sarasota. read more
