Maybe I waited too long to try Kelly's, or maybe I just built up my expectations too high for a place outside a mall in F'n Danvers. Whatever the reason, this place wasn't quite what I expected from a "local favorite". Yes, the service was pretty good and the place was fairly clean, and the fried clams weren't bad at all. It's hard to say exactly what was lacking, unless maybe I was just expecting a lot more "local color". I've been going to Kelly's for many years, but this was the first time I ordered the clam/scallop plate. While the food tasted great -- there just wasn't nearly enough of it to warrant spending $24.95. I had ordered this to split with my husband but there wasn't nearly enough for 2 adults. Any other seafood restaurant that we've been to in the Essex/Ipswich area has far more food for your dollar. read more

Went there today for lunch and was reminded why I don't eat at Kelly's Roast Beef. I lived in Revere most of my life so I'm very familiar with Kelly's on revere beach. I stopped eating at Kelly's a while back because there are so many local roast beef places that should cause Kelly's to be embarrassed. Today for lunch I thought I'd give them another try to see if anything has changed. I ordered a small beef plate. It was disappointing. The beef was over cooked. I asked for BBQ sauce and got about three drops of sauce. I checked the sandwich three times to see if any sauce was on it cause I couldn't taste any. The fries were ok but they didn't give me any salt or pepper so I had to eat plain fries with no taste. I would have been happier with a happy meal from McDonald's. read more

Any kellys you go to you know what u will get, a good meal... However there is nothing like the kellys on the beach in revere the original. The fod is the same but the ambiance is why u go. Every time I go to kellys even if I am alone I always order the same thing, an order of chicken fingers and a large roast beef with sauce and cheese. the best fingers around and the roast beef is great! highly reccomended, however not low sub shop prices, you cant go wrong with fried seafood or anything there. If I could give zero stars I would. First of all it is very pricey but the quality of the food is very poor. The roast beef sandwich was made with meat that had been frozen. The fish filet sandwich was made with a frozen filet so instead of crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside it was just mushy. And the clam chowder was more like potato chowder with undercooked potatoes and very few clams. This set us back $29 plus change and tip. I grew up with Kelly's at revere beach so I know how good it used to be. They are cutting corners and it shows. Last time I was there two years ago I ordered fried shrimp and they served those frozen flattened shrimp patties that are awful. I should have taken the hint then. I would give negative 5 stars if I could! Danvers is not my favorite location, but was driving by with kids and got take out. Got home to eat my roast beef and it was brown with green hues. Disgusting! My daughters' kids meals had no drinks and soggy onion rings and fries. It's not the first time we've had bad food there. It's like a hit or miss. What happened? This is one my favorite places, and the quality went down. The fish plater was plain, no flavor. The tartar sauce didn't taste right. The shrimp once it becomes a little cold, it doesn't taste right. I crave the old Kelly's flavors, not what I got today. read more

I ate there today and ordered the clam roll, which was absolutely awful. The batter was hard and tasteless and the clams were tough and rubbery, maybe because they were so big or maybe over cooked? Kellys [Danvers] for lunch 3-6-16 I order fish sandwich meal and sit down to wait. After a while i realize i have been there for at least 20 minutes waiting. 2 seconds later a peon comes to my table looks at the number and asks me if im still waiting for the order. WTF, my table is empty and the number is still there SO by my power of deduction [just mine, these kids arent the brightest], I would guess, NO I DONT HAVE MY FOOD. Less than a minute later im asked if i want a cup of chowder for free because of the wait. I say sure chowder sounds great. 5 minutes later i get all the food at once. i decide to take the chowder home and put it to the side. Im eating and its really good, i grab a fry and the chowder cup comes flying on my plate. Im like what the holy fuckballs is this? There is a hair, at least a foot long in my chowder. There are no decent vegetarian options on the menu. Now before you criticize me for going to a roast beef place, this was one of those times when I indulged my husband's wish for a roast beef sandwich and figured that at least Kelly's is a chain and big enough that I'd probably have better options than the typical rb dive. Turns out I was wrong: only a single veggie wrap is available, if you don't count the salads, which I never do because who wants a friggin garden salad for dinner? And if you want anything warm ( because it's December so of course I want warm food) you'll have to go to the kids menu for a grilled cheese since the standard "soup and side" fallback for me was thwarted by chili and chicken noodle. Places need to learn to up their veggie game because even if they just had one killer option I'd be willing to go back when my carnivorous partner decides he's hungry during errands. The wrap was watery and tasteless, and the fries we split were also just meh (we didn't even finish a small! Who has leftover fries?!?). My husband said his large roast beef sandwich was good meat, but he expected a bigger sandwich considering it's $9 with no side. My cold sad wrap at least came with a pickle and chips, although the kind but inattentive server still bright out the chips even after I said I didn't want them, since I was looking forward to the hot fries. We stopped here on Sunday, I had never been to this location before and will never go again. We went through the drive thru, the lady taking our order was very nice and when we parked before leaving the parking lot, I was disgusted to find a black hair on the top of my turkey sandwich. I took the container back in and talked to one of the young kids at the counter, he was very nice and apologetic and offered to make me another a sandwich, I said I had lost my appetite and would just like a refund. He told me I had to wait for his manager to finish up with this other family. Once the manager finished with the other family and the young kid told him there was a hair in my food, the manager did not even look me in the eyes, did not apologize for what happened, just processed my refund, had a smug look on his face like I was an inconvenience to him. My wife and I were at the northshore mall and wanted lunch, ok Kelly's it is. Normally pretty decent but this time it was off. First I usually don't say much about the wait staff at a fast food joint because they are probably making $7 an hour but the guy that took our order was not firing on all cylinders, he was nerve wrackingly dull, I could set that aside. However the place was filthy especially around the drink station. The drink station was one of those new machines that 100+ different types of drinks, wrong only when everything isn't empty. Oh speaking of empty the ketchup dispenser was empty also, you try eating onion rings and cold frenchfries without ketchup. It wasn't like it was 2:30 in the afternoon after a ton of guests it was 12:30 pm and it was slow. My wife ordered a scallop roll and I ordered a scallop and clam combo. I must admit the clams were pretty good but the scallops had a different heavy batter on them. The scallops were also a little soggy and giving off a lot of juice, I think this means they are not dry scallops but have been treated for extended storage what you call wet scallops. This would be ok if you were in Kansas but for a local legend not so good. Lets say they were fair. My wife and I are going to write this place off, life is too short and there are better places. read more

I have only one good thing to say about this place. The fried shrimp is exceptionally good, and they give you good-sized portions (unless they've cut back-haven't had one in about a year or so). Other than the fried shrimp, don't bother. You will leave still hungry. And the prices are outrageous! I got a lobster roll for $22, and not even fries with it!!! You get a small, cheap 1 oz. bag of cheap-brand chips! and you get a pickle. The hot dog roll they serve it on, while nicely grilled and tasty, is tiny! Like a toddler size. They fill it with lobster meat which has been previously frozen, not fresh. And when I say fill, I don't mean overflowing, I mean they fill the tiny bun. My husband and I have been customers of Kelly's locations for 35+ years. We were appalled at the level of customer service received at their Danvers location. There were hardly any customers at this location on a Sunday afternoon and it took over 15 minutes to get our order which were two Roast Beef plates. The order on both plates were exactly the same except minus the sauce on one. One of the plates were incorrect and both had luke warm fries and onion rings. When we advised the server, there wasn't an apology - she just took the food away and then discussed it with her fellow co workers who laughed and looked over at our table. They corrected the sandwich order but then forgot to include the fries and onion rings. Another worker came over, may have been a manager - but never introduced himself and asked if now everything was alright in a condescending tone. When I explained it wasn't because they forgot the fries and onion rings he told me they would be right over, but never offered an apology. All of the workers were hanging around and laughing and talking by the food area-this may be due to not a lot of customers on a Sunday afternoon, but this is no way to represent a company you are working for. This location needs retraining on their customer service skills which is lacking as a whole from the manager on down. read more

I have eaten at Kelleys three times now. Twice in Danvers and once in Saugus. All three times i had high hopes of fabulous food. I mean, who would think the food would be poor after seeing the huge, impressive saltwater fish tank at each location? They even have the new custom Coke machines if you are a soda fan. Unfortunately, all three times were poor. My wife's roast beef sandwich was very fatty and the roast beef looked like it had been sitting out all day. The second time my buffalo chicken wrap was bland as a piece of cardboard. How can you screw up a spicy wrap, just add hot sauce to cover up the taste. Lastly, i spent $32 for my wife and i to eat here and my 4ox lobster mini hoagie had hard pieces of jagged lobster shell in it. Have a giant bite of that and tell me how you feel after crunching into it? Disgusting, Dissapointing, Overpriced, and won't be returning. Do not listen to the one star reviews for this restaurant. I have been to this kellys many times and not once have I been disappointed. Servers are always nice and food may take a little longer then a fast food place and cost a little more but that's the whole point of going to a place like this is to get the better quality in my view. I love kellys. They have the best clam chowder, though thin has the BEST flavor Ive had then most places. I live by the clam box in Ipswich and to me the next best is Kellys. I always get the fried clams and there always hot and not greasy. The prices are a little high but the service is really good. I usually get drive through unless its busy. I usually have to wait 5-10 minutes if there's a couple cars. The fries are good and the Roast beefs alright but I like Supremes in Danvers better, just me personally. I like my meat cut thin and its always thick at kellys. The fish tank is really cool!Great for kids and I can see why. Good atmosphere read more
