I really liked this place. I've heard great things about the burgers so we had to try it out. It's a small place in this location but we were seated at the bar which was fine. I ordered an old skool burger.. excellent. Wife ordered a Kenji Burger.. same.. excellent Daughter ordered a lobster burrito which is essentially a big sushi hand roll. We came here for a bite to eat before catching our flight. The ambience isn't great - it's really small and nobody else was in there so it was just kind of awkward. When we got our food my husband bit into his burger (I'm not sure if it was the bacon that was too hard or what) but something ended up scratching his throat and he felt it for a full day after. Found this place on Yelp and when we drove by the front was packed with people. The parking lot in front is small so we drove down the side and around the back and parked on the side on the grass. Porch spots, inside seating and out back seating. The menu has lots of options and a kids menu. Prices are decent 12-18ish. Soda was $4 and water was 50cents and you get one refill. It takes something special for me to ask a restaurant when they're coming to Oahu. Kenji's would be a smash on Oahu and every other island! Delicious burgers, sushi burritos and more. Only one server working with a full house but she handled everyone wonderfully. Relaxed setting with music and the diners, drive-inns and dives episode featuring Kenji's playing next to a TV featuring surfing. The Kenji Burger was so juicy and delicious! The Chicken Katsu sandwich was crispy and delicious! Furikake Fries - Full of Flavor! Soft Shell Crab burrito was so flavorful it didn't need soy sauce! I hope they actually make it to Waikiki soon. Sorry Yelpers but you got this one wrong. The Kenji Burger and the Misoyaki Sandwich were both too sweet, slather with sauce, making the bun all soggy and way too messy to eat. The same with the sauce Furikake fries where it was wayyyyy too sweet. It didn't taste like fries anymore. We love fries in general but this one we could not even finish. read more

Our first time here visiting the island and read the great reviews on this place. It is self seating. Waitress was really nice and prompt in handing us their menu and then coming back with waters. We ordered the side of sliced cucumbers, a truffle burger and an Old skool burger, and shared an order of fries. It didn't take long to get our orders. The sliced cucumber was refreshing and the sauce it has had a refreshing kick to it. The burgers are to die for! Angus Beef was very flavorful and cooked to our liking. The interior of the Asian inspired restaurant is dark and cozy, very chill and relaxing. Seating for about 30 people. There's a bar as well. Located in a modern shopping mall with ample parking. Next time we visit the island, we'll check their other location in Kapa'a. We'll definitely be back to dine here! read more

Owners, if you're reading this, please put location kitchen hours on your website. We flew in late on a Friday night, and saw that the Koloa location is open til midnight (on both Yelp and Google). Great, we're staying in Poipu, so we'll grab a burger before bed. We passed up Lihue late night options and drove half an hour to Koloa, only to be told the kitchen closed at 9pm, and the bar is open til midnight. Anyway, we stopped by this location (Lihue) on the way to the airport for an early meal. Heard a lot about this place so we wanted to check it off the list before heading home. Truffle Burger ($14) - For the price, it's pretty small. Flavors are fresh and delicious (truffle aioli was yum), great burger sear, but the serving of mushrooms was very chintzy. Lobster Burrito ($18) - Wonderful concept, pretty much a giant reverse maki with crunchy tempura in the outer rice layer for a nice crunch. All fillings were fresh except the lobster - it had a really off, fishy flavor. I love me some fresh lobster, and this ain't it. If I came back I'd probably try the Japanese or Rainbow instead. Service was fine, one server was handling the whole restaurant which isn't that big. It's cool that they have a variety of Japanese beers, but everything is bottled. I think they'd benefit greatly from having even one draft beer available. I'd go with two: a Japanese beer for the theme and a local beer to promote Kauai's brewing industry. The food was a mixed bag and definitely not on the cheap side - I honestly don't feel like we would have missed anything if we skipped this place. read more

This place was aite. To be fair, we didn't get burgers, so take this review with a grain of salt. I got the Loco Moco, and I'm just not a fan of their version. Instead of gravy, you get teriyaki sauce, a ponzu aioli, and cheese. The flavors are fine, but it's just missing it's hearty identity. It just didn't do it for me. 4/18 aka today was my 10th Wedding Anniversary. After a fruitless attempt to get a reservation at Duke's, we then tried their Barefoot Grill which is a no-reservations place, however they seated us in the furthest table at the back, next to the kitchen door which was in use constantly. I had no idea what to expect, except a burger, and after the aggravation I'd experienced, I was so hungry, I would have savaged the leg off a low-flying duck. However, the menu was interesting, intriguing, with more possibilities than I'd dared hope for. I got the katsu chicken salad and furikake fries. Husband got the Hapa Burger with regular fries. My salad was superb. Juicy, tender, perfectly cooked chicken enrobed in crispy breading, nestling on a bed of fresh mixed greens, presented in an angled black bowl. Gorgeous! However, the furikake fries were to die for, may I say epic. I am a good judge of fries. The dressing on these fries elevated them to way above the norm. Super savoury umami deliciousness, I was practically inhaling them. I could have eaten another serving but I would have felt ill. Husband's Burger was delicious too. He gave me a bite. We are quite picky about burgers. If it was dry or overcooked I'm going to let you know. This was a perfect medium, and the toppings on it are so different from the average. We wanted a quick bite for dinner on our first night back on Kauai. We were staying in Koloa and went to see the sunset in Poipu as well as the turtles coming on to shore to rest after the sun went down. If you know Kauai, late night eats isnt readily available. We headed back to Lihue cause we knew restaurants there would be more likely be open later than the few choices in the Poipu area. Kenji Burger was a great option. It was open until 9pm which is rare on this island. We just wanted take-out and I went with a chicken katsu sandwich ($11). This comes with panko crusted chicken, katsu sauce, tomato and a sriracha ranch slaw. It was a good sanwich. The chicken was tasty. I love katsu sauce so having it in a sandwich was a change for me. The chicken itself wasnt dry so that was good. The bread also held up well. The lady got a Kenji burger ($12) which comes with teri sauce, caramelized onions, pozu aioli, cheddar cheese tomato & arugula. This burger looked great. She liked it a lot... All of Kenji Burger's patties are made with 100% Kauai grass fed beef. Service was friendly. We waited about 15 minutes for our 2 sandwiches so it wasnt bad at all...
