I wanted to do a group karaoke night for 15-20 people for my birthday and I went in person like a month before to reserve the day I wanted. $100 refundable deposit which I thought was reasonable, they wrote my name down on their calendar and were so nice. When the day came they whisked us all up to the top floor room with tables set up and karaoke all ready to go. I walked in kind of nervous about how/what everyone would be able to order, but turns out omg it was the most AMAZING pre set menu spread. The servers just kept coming through the door with more and more steaming platters of delicious food, I literally was geeking out. Everything was amazing. BYOB and after the meal was served and cleared we were kind of left alone up there to sing our hearts out which was honestly the most ideal scenario ever. Also an insane deal for 3 hours of karaoke and a huge dinner w leftovers for 20 people!!!! Family is pretty familiar with Ken's and used to come here often but recently, we came here to eat and had a pretty unpleasant experience. The staff is phenomenal, the waiters offered excellent service but the food this time around wasn't up to par with the usual experiences. We ordered our standard dishes of the salt baked squid, seafood chow mein, sweet and sour pork, stir fried clams, etc. However, the food came out unusually fast, probably within less than 5 minutes of ordering. Ordinarily, I would be impressed but everything came out either warm or made as if it was in a rush. For example, the sauce on the seafood chow mein was abnormally warm and after another couple minutes, became cold. The salt baked squid's batter was also falling off the squid, making it greasy and soggy instead of light and crispy. It was also weird when the owner grabbed our sauces off our table and gave it to another neighboring table without even telling us. I'd ordinarily just attribute it to the restaurant having an off day but the entire experience was enough to have me want to frequent other restaurants in the future. read more

Okay guys... I'm back! I wanted to be apart of the controversy between Kens and David's salt and pepper shrimp. I've tried David's before and I was not impressed at all as the shrimp were soggy by the time I got home and the breading is a lot thicker, more of a tempura style as& P shrimp but I recently had the chance to try Kens S&P shrimp and babyyyyyyy they were spot on and exactly what I was looking for! I will say that the shrimp were soggy when I got home and didn't taste nearly as good as they did when they came out to the table but my vote is for Kens... Food: I used to only come here for karaoke, but the regular dine in menu is absolutely fantastic. I come here maybe every other month, and I always leave satisfied. Last night some friends and I were craving honey walnut shrimp and salted fish fried rice and it did not disappoint. The honey walnut shrimp was plump and luscious. The salted fish fried rice was also delicious. The bits of salted shrimp and seafood elevate the fried rice drastically. This is always a must for me when I eat here. I am always surprised by the quality and consistency of the food here despite how large the menu selection is -- a true testament of cantonese mastery. They can take all my money honestly. Honey walnut shrimp: 5/5 Salted fish fried rice: 5/5 Service: The food comes out very quick and they open pretty late too which is nice after a night out. Ambience: Very no frills and what you would expect from a typical cantonese seafood joint. Our dinner here was not bad - some of the neighboring restaurants looked really busy, and there wasn't much of a line here. They were also serving a large banquet/party upstairs, so it's definitely still a popular place. Overall, the sea food dishes were fresh and prepared pretty quickly. This review is ONLY for their chicken wings, beef chow fun, and stirred fried string beans past midnight. So Ken's seafood is one of the few places that opens past 12 in Chinatown. After being out, my friends introduced me to ken's seafood and ordered what I mentioned above. All three of those dishes was pretty good. Chicken wings, very crispy and juicy in the inside. Beef chow fun is huge portion with plenty of meat. I never had any of their other dishes so can't comment there. Also if other restaurants are open, ken's is generally not our go to but maybe we should check it out during normal hours. read more

Ken's is one of my favorite places for karaoke/BYO because the private rooms are decently spacious and the facilities are exactly what you'd expect from a Karaoke place. They have a decent selection of songs (Mandarin and English), and some are actually pretty recent. The food itself is actually surprisingly good. We had the broccoli and beef, (General Tso's?) chicken, fried rice, and some others. They were all very flavorful and what you'd get at a normal Chinese restaurant. That's actually a good thing, since I feel that some BYO places hinge on the fact that they're BYO and the food is lacking compared to a regular restaurant. In the end, I probably wouldn't come here if it wasn't a BYO - the atmosphere is pretty loud and karaoke like. However, if it's for a BYO, I'd definitely recommend here. read more

I came here after a concert that ended around 2am. I'd never been to Chinatown or really anywhere so late but the friends I was with said this was a must-have for post concert food. We ordered the "beef cubes" which I still have no idea what it matches up to on the menu but it's possible they just understood what it was when asked. We also got some general tsos and the lemon pepper chicken wings. The wings were the highlight for me although the other food was also good as well. You get some extremely hot tea in little cups that you can refill yourself which was nice to have. The service is quite no frills which is expected in Chinatown l, and the food they serve is 10/10. I do think it's a little of a weird time since we couldn't get out for a while since a group was arguing with the owners about whether they'd paid or not near the door but it was kind of funny and really gives you those late night vibes anyway would highly recommend if you're looking for food after a late night concert. read more

My wife is Asian (Filipino) and she likes to get her hair cut in Chinatown as of late. That is alright by me as I like Chinatown and we always hit up a few places for eats afterwards. On this night my father in law came with us also for a haircut. After we were done at Perfect Cut, we were on our way to Dim Sum Garden and I was seriously jonesin for those Shanghai Soup dumplings. My father in law suggested Ken's as he loves seafood and he said they had a lobster special for $19.95 for two lobsters. My father in law is 91 years old and in great shape and also a really good guy, so I put away my craving for Dim Sum and hid my disappointment and acquiesced to his Ken's suggestion. Ken's is really old school China Town. The inside was clean but basic, maybe in need of some updating, maybe not. It filled up fairly quickly with customers and I was the only white person in the place. I guess that is a good sign? They had the Cowboys game on and the bovine lads were getting crushed by the Falcons and that was definitely a good sign. The wait staff was fairly friendly and became more and more friendly as the Falcons lead grew. I am pretty sure some of the waiters had a little wager on that game as I heard them talking about the over points. We ordered the lobsters with a ginger garlic sauce, corn and chicken soup and some Chinese spinach in a garlic sauce. I will say this for Ken's the food came out super fast, almost as fast as Prescott kept getting sacked. They pulled the two lobsters out of the tank in the front of the restaurant and it seemed like in seconds they were cooked and cut up nicely on a plate on our table. The soup came out first and that was pretty good, it was not salty but it was a bit bland for me. It could easily be doctored with the sauces Ken's provided however. The lobster was good and tasted fresh and I liked the sauce. There was a slight catch to the deal as we didn't quite read the fine print. It is $19.95 Monday through Thursday, since it was a Sunday night the price was $29.95, still not a bad deal for two lobsters. Ken's was fun and definitely different. I don't know if i would run back but if your looking for more traditional and authentic Chinese food, I think Ken's is a pretty good choice. 3.5 yelp stars read more

I recently went there for my birthday. I called them to schedule about 4 different times which was already ridiculous that they don't just have a set list of karaoke rooms. On the day of my birthday , they acted confused AND 15 people were cramped into a small , hot room. The air conditioning was terrible and definitely didn't cool the room. Not worth the almost 400 dollars we paid total and I used to come here all the time. I deserve my money back honestly because a birthday only comes once a year , the service was terrible and I was sweating so badly, I couldn't even enjoy singing. I honestly think even after my 4 phone calls, they forgot about my reservation day of. Don't call them to reserve! At this point, you probably have to make a reservation directly at the manager's house. I am never coming here again and that says a lot because I used to be a regular. Horrible karaoke experience, borderline ruined my birthday. This place has gone downhill which is disappointing. But it would be far from my first choice for a family dinner. Their lo mein and fried rice options are pretty good. I also enjoy their seafood, since it is their specialty. Besides the food, my main reason I go here is for their karaoke/food special for their upstair rooms! They have a number of private karaoke rooms upstairs of varying sizes depending on your needs. Typically, you can just call them and reserve the rooms yourself. The music selection is diverse and updated very frequently. They may not have the songs that just came out that month, but they'll have some that are still on the radio. Aesthetically, it is just like any other Chinese restaurant, but you're guaranteed relatively good food and a fun time for a decent price. read more

So I wanted to book Kens for my birthday party after hearing people mention it having private rooms, karaoke, and BYOB. I was hesitant after seeing the poor ratings but thought I should still give it a try. Called two weeks in advance and was told very rudely by a staff that I could only book two days before the event. So I waited and called two days before the event at 4:50PM. Immediately I was greeted very rudely by a male staff yelling WHAT? When I tell him I would like to book a room for Saturday he tells me they are full. I explain how I tried booking much earlier in advance but was told to call back later. The staff proceeds to start swearing saying "WHAT THE FUCK? ARE YOU CRAZY? I SAID WE ARE FULL." I then asked politely if I could please talk to the manager/owner and he replies "ARE YOU CRAZY? I AM THE MANAGER. WHAT THE SHIT YOU CRAZY?" At that point I decided I would much rather have my birthday party at a restaurant that treats its customers politely. If this is the attitude of the manager then the restaurant is truly a lost cause. There's much better karaoke options like Yakitori Boy, Chinese food like Dim Sum Garden or BYOB like Nine ting. read more

It makes me sad to give this place a low score. All the other times I've been to Ken's I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the food, but this time I am extremely disappointed. We made a reservation for a karaoke room for a friend's birthday. Upon arrival they first sent our group into 2 different rooms without telling us, so it took us awhile to even realize that the rest of our party was in another room. Then they said they there was a pre set menu and $20 a person, $200 minimum? They've never done a pre set menu for a party before. We were disappointed because we knew what we wanted to order beforehand and were excited to be eating their food. What makes it worse is that they didn't even give us a lot of food. Fried rice, lo mein, general tsao chicken, beef and broccoli? Food we could have ordered from our chinese takeout places nearby. It wasn't even a lot of food either, we were all still hungry after and ended up going to another chinese restaurant. They were so quick to kick us out after our 2 hours too, in the middle of our session they started clearing out our table. How disappointing. It really put a downer on our night.
