Amazing spot! The Vermont Salad was good and so did the poblano soup which tasted roasted (not too hot). The only disadvantage is that the space is somewhat small--could be extended.

Been to Picnikins quite a few times, but it has been a while since my last visit. So this last stop, was the perfect opportunity to revisit. Really enjoyed their tuna sandwich with poblano soup. They were both delicious, and $12 dollar price was not too bad. I ordered their cowboy cookie, which is gluten-free, and a coffee. Both were good. The coffee was a bit on the strong side, but still good. Really no issues with this place. Service was impeccable. Restaurant is open and comfortable. Definitely a win.

When I returned to San Antonio for a quick visit, the first restaurant I wanted to go to was Picknikins. This place is amazing. The staff is always courteous, friendly and prompt. The food is ridiculous. Everything is so good. But, the poblano soup is so amazing that I have always had a hard time not ordering that. I got the soup with half chicken salad sandwich and it was (as my daughter says) sooo happy making. The ultimate sandwich is always my husbands go to. The Vermont salad is incredible. I will not visit SA without a lunch at Picknikins. It's a great place.

Stopped for a light lunch. I got the poblano soup & ceaser salad. My friend ordered the brie & turkey sandwich. The soup was amazing & ceaser salad was OK. We enjoyed our food. It was delicioys! I will be back to try her sandwich next time, but tgat poblano soup was quite tasty.

I'm always on the hunt for a good gluten free sandwich, they're so hard to find. My dad and I stopped by Picnikins for an early lunch and to our surprise, it was already getting crowded! But luckily we didn't have much of a wait to order at the counter and we were able to find parking since we arrived at about 11:30am. We both ordered the Italian sandwiches, mine on GF bread and my dad's on wheat bread. We both liked our meals, it was an ok sandwich, but we both thought it was dry. They put some olive oil and red vinegar on there, I think, but not nearly enough. It would have been delicious with mayo or mustard to make it less dry. We kinda looked around the area for any mayo/mustard packets but didn't see any so we may have missed it? Can you add mayo and mustard to your sandwich when you order at the counter? I will have to try doing that next time. Looking around at what everyone else was eating, it seems like the regulars know the key is to get the 1/2 sandwich and soup special. We both decided we'll probably go that route next time. Overall, my sandwich was a 6/10, but I'd go back to try something else.

The ambience is simple and nice. Not very fancy but comfortable. One of the better deli sandwich spots in San Antonio. The soups are amazing. My favorite is the poblano soup. Sometime it has more of a kick than other, but always tasty. Also like the tomato basil soup. The only sandwich I haven't been thrilled with here is the tuna salad. It is a little dry. Highly recommend this place.

This cafe is great with a very nice casual atmosphere. As soon as you enter you see the lush wall of greenery. The menu is against the wall so you can decide what you want to order. I had half sandwich and a cup of soup. I highly recommend the roasted poblano soup. It was very flavorful and creamy! The tea is also brewed fresh and very tasty. The service is also great. The employee was very friendly and helpful. The tables were also cleaned promptly after people left.

They were able to seat us on the patio as a walk in on a Saturday night, checked in to offer us a spot by the fireplace when it opened up, kept our water filled throughout the night, and even asked how we wanted our food served. Little touches like that really make a difference. They also brought out complimentary ciabatta bread when we were first seated and then without us asking, brought a fresh batch after our appetizer. The second round was better, with a nice crispy edge that made that satisfying crunch when you squeezed it. Really good with the butter, though if the butter had been just a little saltier it would have been perfect. Beef Carpaccio ($32): Good but average. The individual components were all there but the dish felt like it was missing cohesion. The black sesame parmesan tuiles were a standout though. Georges Bank Seared Sea Scallop ($49): Three huge scallops cooked phenomenally. The mushroom risotto was a bit al dente and on the saltier side, and the mushroom flavor didn't come through as much as I would have liked. The squid ink beurre blanc was lovely though and really brought the dish together. Despite the risotto I would still order this again just for those scallops. Duck and Foie Gras ($46): The duck was cooked beautifully and the foie gras wasn't too heavy, just the right amount. I loved the strawberry arugula salad that came with it. The pairing worked really well overall. I personally didn't think butternut squash was the right puree choice but my husband disagreed and absolutely loved this dish. Foucher Sancerre Rosé ($15 glass): I am usually not a fan of rosé because of how dry they tend to be, but this one was not bad. It tasted much better when paired with food. August Riesling ($12 glass): A yummy, sweet drink that is refreshing and easy to drink. I had to pace myself or I would have finished it before the main courses even came out.

Duck: 4/5 - we removed the duck liver and everything was so good including the salad & butternut squash. Butter cake: 5/5 - we removed the ice cream here and enjoyed the sauce.

I was torn on bites but ended up going with the Happy Hour sliders and the pork belly appetizer from the regular menu. It was really good--juicy, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. The only downside was that it took about 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and we were seated right next to the bar during a Spurs game. Let's just say my wife and I learned to communicate through lip reading and interpretive gestures because we couldn't hear each other over the crowd! Our second visit was for lunch, and my wife and I split a sandwich, which was also very good. What really stood out this time was our server. Overall, we had a good experience both times. The food was solid, the service on our second visit was excellent, and we'd definitely come back. We started with the beet and dill salmon on crostini, which was such a fun and memorable dish. We ordered all of the entrées--choucroute, hanger steak, and sweet pea risotto--and every single one was delicious. That said, the risotto completely stole the show for me. Creamy and rich without being heavy, it was packed with mushrooms, sweet peas, and delicate pea shoots. Everything was well timed, except when we were trying to get the check. All the staff seemed to be kind and professional. The patio is lovely, but I imagine it can be uncomfortable in the summer heat. Now for the food. Overall it was good. I found some components spectacular, but felt like some lacked seasoning. I was looking forward to the arancini the most. The croquet itself was crunchy and that cheese was definitely telefono style, but needed some seasoning. The pomodoro was tasty, but the basil made it fabulous. Y'all know how I feel about basil. The ravioli was filled with spinach, mushroom, and ricotta with a brown butter sage sauce. It was delicious and the portion was perfect. My favorite part though was the crunchy shitaki "bacon"and butternut squash. I would take a bowl of that in a heartbeat and would absolutely go back for a butternut squash main dish. It was perfectly roasted and full of flavor and those shitaki were amazing. The preserved lemon vinaigrette over lettuces was phenomenal. Incredible fresh flavor. Desert was chocolate torte and sour cream ice cream. The ice cream was the absolute star of the show. The sweet vanilla was incredible. I sampled the halibut and shrimp and it was perfectly cooked. I would definitely come back to try other offerings.

One guest was served butter and a pho amuse bouche at the same time so she took a good spoonful of her butter, dipped it into her pho, and ate it because nobody told her what she had just been served. I can't imagine what she was thinking. Started with some fresh bread and a generous medallion of a butter and onion ash roll. Nice touch. The pho came to me cold but I found out it was intended to be hot. I guess if it's not served immediately it gets cold really fast because it's just a sip or two. It was very clean and OK flavor but I prefer the deep, umami richness of a fatty pho broth. Continuing with the amuse bouche, I was served a platter of three pieces--a scotch egg, cornbread truffle and fries, and something unmemorable. The scotch egg and cornbread were OK but at this point I was starting to wonder if I was wasting my time and money. Then I tried the tuna and that was a flavor bomb. Cubed tuna over a creamy coconut sauce with a hint of heat, balanced with fresh citrus and purple potato crisps for some added texture and a tasty salt finish. This was visually stunning and just singing in my mouth. I absolutely loved it! Scallop and caviar topped with smoked king salmon, and crispy leeks. This was rich and decadent and I appreciated the crispy leeks to balance the otherwise soft textures. Wished the lime was a little more pronounced to help brighten and lift some of the richness, but still a very good dish. Charred romanesco broccoli with a romesco sauce and green salsa was served with pickled raisins and a heaping serving of shredded manchego cheese. This was good but not something I'd want to reorder. Raspberry bergamot lemon sorbet was just the refreshing bite needed before the heavy hitters. The Texas Wagyu coulotte was cooked to perfection. It was simple, served with mushrooms, and didn't need a lot of fuss. For desert, I was served a persimmon chocolate mousse with orange, a rolled persimmon slice, and dollops of what tasted like yuzu. As full as I was I was able to finish this all. It was creamy, rich, and balanced with citrus notes. And finally, the service ended with a mixed plate of petit fours which held up well the next day and were all very good -- a brownie, dulce de leche, macaron, chocolate chip cookie, and some sort of citrus gel. In all, I think the tasting menu was worth the price. I think chef did a great job balancing flavors and textures, plating beautifully, and staying true to ingredients while having fun experimenting. If my pho wasn't served cold, I didn't see some poor service, and the extra amuse bouche trio wasn't served I probably would've given this 5 stars. Maybe next time.
