This store is awful. Every time I go, which typically is out of desperation, I regret it immediately. Their selection of produce and meat is terrible, and I got sick after eating roast beef from their deli. Never got anything from the deli again after that experience. Once you managed to pick out something acceptable you are met by the horror that is the checkout process. All of the cashiers are slow and have an attitude, if they pay attention to you at all. Then as you finally get to leave the store, the darn 'automatic' door doesn't open and you have to wait until it feels like opening. They just have to have the last laugh. read more

Key Food is definitely the best supermarket you can go to within 10 blocks of 31st street on 30th Ave. Any other place on 30th is horrible (especially the place right off the subway tracks). Compare it to supermarkets outside of Astoria, it's just OK. It usually is missing things I need and the store is not very organized. The meat selection is a little dull and it's hard to find staff that can help you. They did do small renovations recently that look nice and the place is very clean. I just spend much longer than needed in there because I have trouble finding my way around (sometimes only to find they don't have the item at all). read more

I went to this grocery store a few times...it was a little pricey but it has all the essentials. The selection of food here isn't the largest but it's okay...a little more expensive than if you go to the grocery store a little down the street... It's in a decent location relatively close to the subway so if people are on their way home...it's pretty convenient. read more

As a guy, when it comes to shopping for just about anything non-electronics related, I want convenience. I will buy my shoes in 32 seconds, but I'll walk the aisles of Best Buy for 90 minutes looking for the best $14.99 Special Edition DVD (last time Crimson Tide was the choice). So when I moved to Astoria, at first I did my food shopping at Trade Fair because it was closest. Then I realized how bad it smelled in there and how dirty it was. Luckily, Key Foods came to my rescue. This supermarket made the crazy decision to have aisles wide enough for more than one cart, and they've made the correct assumption that customers prefer to shop for food in a clean environment. It's more expensive than Trade Fair, but there are still always good deals and for many things a wider variety of options. If you live near the 30th Ave N Stop, purchase your foodstuffs here. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. It is always clean, there is much more space here, they do have more expensive groceries, but you get the quality along with the price hike, and the circular usually has awesome deals to help you save a buck. The guys in the aisles tend to be very helpful when you need assistance finding items. The shelves are nearly always well-stocked. And there is usually a nice variety of products from which to choose according to your needs and budget. But the cashiers are beyond hit or miss! I have received assistance from a few good ones. But there is one guy who does nothing but overtly comment on female customers in a disgusting, degrading, offensive way (I've only ever seen him in the self-checkout or on cart duty). It just turns my stomach to have to witness that when I'm giving your company business. Many of the younger ones are more interested in talking to each other than in doing their jobs. And one of the older ones, while helpful in one area, fought me over an obvious circular deal. I have had some who were very helpful, checked the shelves when things didn't come up properly, and were quite nice and efficient. But I tend to dread check out when I come here. It's better than the market down the street, but I'd rather haul groceries from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods some days than have to deal with the checkout issues here. read more

This is a pretty standard Key Food, and I have nothing bad to say about it. I come here mainly because I like to buy all of my groceries in one place, so I like that this location is always well-stocked. I also find their produce to be much fresher than some of the other chain grocery stores around, and they always have sales on some of the things I buy most often. They also have a bigger selection than some of the other grocery stores in the area, with a respectable amount of options for those with diet limitations as well. The lines at checkout can sometimes be long, mostly because only 2 lanes seem to be open at any one time. As far as prices go, I know Key Food isn't the cheapest grocery store in the world, but, like I said, they always have good deals and you can get everything you need all in one shot. And they're definitely not expensive. I've always found the employees here to be very helpful. Overall, this is my go-to spot for most of my grocery needs. It's close to the train, open late, and well-stocked. What more could you ask for? read more

Prices aren't THAT bad, considering it's NY, but some prices are definitely inflated. I enjoy the variety of food they provide-- they have quite an extensive ethnic food section, gluten free section, etc. Also, they have a ton of ice cream varieties, which I love. The negative? Their workers really don't seem to even understand their rewards system, and don't try and promote helping out their customers. I've been over-charged here twice, after only starting to come here for groceries one month ago. It's annoying because I asked them specifically about their weekly deals and they try to convince me that they know best, but I still get overcharged... Definitely going to be needing to check everything prior to leaving the store on EVERY visit. read more

good supermarket, they have nearly everything.... As Billy Walsh from Entourage would say.... "I am Queens Boulevard... my dad owned a Key Foods in Kew Gardens (which ain't Queens BLVD!!!)" The vegetables, meat, deli offerings are all good, no frills same old supermarket stuff. What's really great is they have this focaccia/pizza vegetable board which is great and it's ridic cheap. I was nervous about finding a grocery store that can come close to the convenience of Wegmans (for those of you who are unfamiliar with Wegmans, it is the greatest shopping market in the world) but I feel as though Key Foods gets the job done. I have a feeling of comfort when I walk in the store, the aisles are not ridiculously packed and I can get in and out with everything I need fairly quickly. The self check out is clutch when it comes to one or two items, however they can get backed up when you have people that don't know what they are doing and have 50 different items in their basket. The meat department is OK, I was scared away by a bad bag of turkey they sold me once, so now I buy pre-wrapped sandwich meat. As for other Key Food products, so far they seem to be doing the trick, the prices are good and the quality of the product is good as well, a good comparison to corporate brands. Prices all around seem fair, I usually spend 50-70 dollars during a "big" grocery outing, which tends to be once a month, depending on how much I am home. All in all if you just moved to NYC or Queens I highly recommend Key Foods as being your one stop shopping center for all of your home grocery needs ;). read more

I find myself in this supermarket at least once a week and I have not had any problems. As with most stores, it helps to know when their deliveries arrive to get the best selection. Their produce is usually fresh and and well stocked. Now here is the best part, they have a huge supply of beers and other interesting drinks. If you like to have wild parties, check out their variety of drinks. That includes nonalcoholic beverages. This is one of those stores that decided to install self-checkout stations. I find those things annoying because every purchase must be completed by an employee who keeps an eye on the stations. There is usually a long line at those stations. You may find the cashier stations to be a much faster option. read more

Mostly Terrible customer service, women not just one, on several different occasions at the CUSTOMER SERVICE register always have a "don't bother me" attitude. I get water delivered every week and every week I ask for delivery of the same water and it always seems they have no idea how to help me, really frustrating. Also the bottle return is always a nightmare. The bins are typically full and it takes an eternity to have someone come empty the bins, despite several trips into the store over a 30 minute stretch to request someone to take care of the bins. I really wish there was another option close by. read more

My boyfriend and I refer to this supermarket as the "real" supermarket in comparison to the three that are close to his apartment. Meaning, we walk many blocks to go to this FOURTH supermarket. They sell things that I can't find anywhere else (Heath toffee bits, spices I am searching for, good steaks, etc). I trust the produce here more than at other supermarkets. It feels cleaner than other supermarkets in the area and it is so close to the subway! I love this supermarket (I guess mostly just in comparison to other area ones) and it is the closest approximation to suburban sprawling supermarkets that I can find. read more

Average. More expensive than some of the other nearby markets (Trade Scare, Associates, C-Town), but also cleaner and more organized. There is a great vegetable and fruit stand across the street that has good deals that you can hit up for produce before/after getting goods at Key Foods. I have to say my absolute favorite thing to get there is the jar of nutella for $2.99! read more

don't go there the staffs are extremely rude besides unless you are buying can food, you are better off buying the same low quality but cheaper from tradefair down the street. I was asked to leave just because I was trying to recycle some bottles. I don't even have a lot of bottles less than 10 and they are even bought from this store! The worst thing it wasn't even my fault I was just waiting for my turn. I was going to shop there after I had recycled the bottles because they won't allow you to bring it in. No I have never created a scene or did anything to warrant a removal from the store. They never apologized either. Their fruit is always rotten within two days and it's always packed to the brim with smash holes. Looking for your eggs to be gently bagged separately? Best of luck to you. The ice cream in the freezer was soft. The yogurt containers didn't feel very cold. They are obviously skimping on electricity.

Overall, not a very good supermarket. I go here a lot purely because it's the closest supermarket to my apartment. The prices are higher than at other places in the area. Their prepared food can be pretty low quality at times, and they charge pretty high prices, so I'd avoid that (other than the rotisserie chicken, which is good and priced fairly). One really annoying thing is that the deli counter people almost always give me more than what I asked for. For example, I'll ask very clearly "a QUARTER pound of Key Food provolone; just a quarter please" and I'll get a half pound, sometimes of Boars Head, which is annoying if I don't notice until I'm checking out. I've learned to always check up on that. Recently, on a really rainy day, I nearly fell badly on an extremely wet floor, not even near the entrance! I got really upset when I saw that there was no "wet floor" sign or anyone doing anything about it, and the worker just looked down and sort of sighed. One good aspect of this place though is the customer service. They're quite good about letting you return things, even without the receipt. read more

It doesn't rivial your typical suburban Grocery Store with super wide aisles, enormous variety and options, or other NYC grocery stores (Gristedes, Whole Foods) but it gets the job done. I find this location better than the one up near Ditmars in terms of size, staff, and selection, but you'd be an idiot to go there for produce with United Bros across the street. I always find the prices to be a little unresasonable, especially with so many mom and pop groceries in the area. But, it's reliable to go to a chain like Key Foods because you know they are always going to have what you want/need in stock. read more

This store is just ok. It's clean and the staff is friendly. They have a good deli but not a dedicated butcher or fish market. The quality of the poultry is low, depending on the brand you buy it'll have a lot of gristle. The biggest drawback is that it's not unusual to purchase a product only to find it has expired. I've had this happen with everything from jared olives (so old that the little button seal on top didn't pop up) to produce, baked goods and most recently, chocolate candy. I know sometimes expiration dates are not set in stone but these items were stale, spoiled and inedible. I shop at this store a couple times a week because it's close to my home but I've learned to check the dates on everything. read more

Skip this place. This store is poorly managed to an unbelievable degree: Cartons entirely full of moldy, dripping fruit - particularly strawberries - are put out for sale week after week as if nothing were wrong with them. In the early winter off-season, Mexican-grown berries in rotten inedible condition are priced at $8.99 per carton, when even Whole Foods sells perfect US-grown strawberries for about half that price. The bananas on offer are either picked long before becoming ripe or bruised beyond repair (sometimes both). Many boxes of Applegate Organic frozen turkey patties were improperly thawed and then refrozen. Where the inner plastic bags also broke, the boxes were left with a thick layer of frozen meat juice on them, touching other items in the freezer case. Over the last few months I've bought a few that did not show external leakage, and some nonetheless turned out to contain meat that was visibly no longer good: discolored and the texture had changed. Improper storage of raw meat is a big red flag. The "refrigerated" case where eggs are kept has been room temperature on the two recent occasions that I've browsed it. Prepared foods are left to ferment until their packaging swells visibly. If you like your hummus to be about 5% ABV, this is your spot. This location sold me expired cooking spray with corroded metal concealed under the plastic cap of the can. The self-checkout kiosks seem to lack weight information for many items sold by standard weight or volume, resulting in frequent errors for anyone buying more than a few items. This store is disgusting. It belongs in the lowest tier of expensive, crappy NYC grocery stores alongside Gristedes. Avoid, avoid, avoid. You're better off shopping at Trade Fair, and it horrifies me to write that. read more

Having grown up in the suburbs where the aisle are wide and the shelves tall, its hard to rate a NYC supermarket. Ive lived in several boroughs and seen mice, roaches, rats and various other vermin on the shelves. Ive also been subject to stores that sell various local treats as cow liver, chicken feet, scrapple, etc. So, taking all that into consideration KF tends to be a pretty decent supermarket. While not quite a Trader Joe's, it tries to offer a broad selection of goods in its limited space. The prices are acceptable (although I am anything but a coupon clipper), and the best part is that you can use the automated check out machines. They also rent movies for a $1. Not Bad. read more

Plus the butcher shop won't give you thin sliced anything even if you beg them and finally, they used to have a lot of sugar free options but they reverted to just putting out absolute crap on the shelves. I will never step my foot into this grocery store. I wanted to make specific dish last night so I had to buy ingredients. I was literally forced out of store by staff (management) because they were closing down the store. They told me either I pay for what I selected right away or I will have to go somewhere else. Very disapointed in this store. I went to Fair Trade and get all my ingredients. I never experienced anything like this ever. Most of the stores will lock the doors so customers cannot enter the store when its closing time. Then the rest of customers will finish their shopping and pay without anyone demanding for payment right away. Again, I will never step into this store again. read more

Great selection of food but not mom friendly at all! You can easily go inside with a stroller but mission impossible to get out of the store with the same stroller you had no problem going inside to spend money with! You will find once you're done paying for your groceries and head out you literally can't get out! You are blocked in and can't get out! (Maybe with an umbrella stroller you can manage but anything bigger you're stuck!) so moms if you decide to head to this key food don't walk out after you're done paying! You have to go to the front desk(which is luckily located near the entrance) and ask an employee to let you out the way you came in! Really inconvenient but staff there responds quickly to helping you get out! Most of the times when they see you in front of the desk they know exactly what you're there for! A way out! read more

standard supermarket, standard selection. the good thing about this place is that if they don't carry something, the manager will order it for you. i've been there numerous times, looking for random things (like pink sprinkles) and he walks me around to try and locate it (or even go in the back to an unopened shipment to get it if they have it) and otherwise he's very quick to pull out his little notepad and say "i'll place an order for you and get it!" i like that. they're lenient with exchanges, no receipt necessary. the staff is friendly, although if you have a question, go to the service counter because the stocking people don't speak english well and rarely know what you're asking for, and they have 4 self service check outs, a nice new feature. read more

I also like that the have a good selection of organic produce even though it is alittle pricey, but I guess that is everywhere. I agree with another poster when expressing the sentiment that this Key Food is the best of a sorry lot in the area. Most cashiers are rude (a few stand out for being so extremely kind and helpful though), price mislabelling is epidemic, and the management makes people who really believe in recycling wait ridiculous amounts of time to get the full recycling bins emptied - I even argued with one manager who would shut the machines off an hour early so people like me couldn't recycle our bottles after 9:00 p.m. on a weeknight! But the deli staff is extremely courteous and competent, I have to say, and the market is clean and has a good selection most of the time. Great beer and cheese selections, and prices are decent. Plus, two terrific fresh produce stores right across the street, so you can buy your sundries here and spend less money for terrific fruits and vegetables a short walk away. read more
