One of the best car buying experiences that I've ever had. Just purchased a Genesis from this dealer. The sales manager, finance people and sales staff were highly professional and made sure that the process went very smoothly. No high pressure tactics. Just a lot of very helpful people. I went to several dealers - other car brands - for test drives prior to showing up at Keyes. Most of them never even bothered to get my name and they didn't seem all that interested in selling me a car either. Having been in sales for many years, I thought that was a bit odd. You never want to buy something from people that don't really care about their products or their customers. If you do show up here, ask for Gustavo Rico. If it weren't for our salesman Scott Johnson I really would have given this place maybe two stars. I saw a car online and called to ask info on it. Scott had to call me back but I called back again and also spoke to another saleman there. We met with both salesman. The first salesman was professional at first (I am going to be nice and NOT say his name) and the other saleman helping us was Scott. They both helped us since I spoke to both of them. It was nice to have both of them help us but they had WAY different styles. we just could not get along with guy#1, he was very pushy and too much of a saleman and was rude. Scott took us out on the test drives and told us about the cars. He was super cool, laid back, and he made us feel so comfotable. He felt more like a buddy that was answering all our questions and very honest. He was very respectful to us. We ended up leaving the place for several reasons, one of them being guy#1 rudeness and sales tactics. HOWEVER, Scott reached out to us and we started talking again and we decided to go with the car that we really liked because it was a good price and the exact one we wanted.So We came back and only dealt with Scott. Again, he was super cool and laid back. Buying a car is expensive--a big chunk of my hard earned money and I'm not going to just go to someone who is just trying to "sell "me the car- We wanted someone who was honest. He even followed up after our purchase for some followup stuff and to make sure we were happy with the car.Little things that make the experience better because hey who likes car shopping. It was frustrating with the sales manager and salesguy#1 with their tactics.And The finance guy was not the best either, but whatever. We are happy with our car and the price, and glad we decided to stick with Scott, we couldn't have found a better guy to work with. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! UPDATE: I find it interesting that someone marked this post as funny, but let me share what isn't funny at all. I received a late payment on my credit due to multiple internal payments and reversals, which shorted my account and somehow made it 68 days past due. I've NEVER had a late payment. Reached out to Hyundai Finance this morning and 30 minutes into this call, he's still researching how this was screwed up. Oh, and then the call was disconnected. I'm sure it will be resolved, but PLEASE be mindful as a consumer. GOOD LUCK! Original Post: I wish I'd done better recon on this dealer prior to my purchase. I found a similar experience to mine here and on BBB as well. I'm posting in hopes of helping someone else avoid my struggle. Brian Sobel, General Store Manager, wasn't any help to me, so maybe he'll be of more assistance to you. He shared that I got a great deal and he didn't make any money on a car that typically sells for over the sticker price, so do your research! Ha! I never got a Customer Service Survey, so be SURE to ask for one. I'm fairly sure I know why I didn't receive one. I leased a 2018 vehicle in Dec '17 and turned in my existing lease early. After a series of unfortunate events and multiple sales miscommunications, I am left to pay off an excess mileage charge that was supposed to be included in the payoff. Ed, Sales Manager, is sneaky (called another dealer to discuss me) and condescending. Salesperson Richard Martinez and I spoke in detail about additional payments on multiple occasions, but since text feed doesn't explicitly reference mileage, Brian Sobel, GM, is not willing to 'cut a check.' He stated that he could 'maybe' get me some free petro. This was the only resolution offered, as if that was my problem. When someone says I owe nothing, I believe that encompasses any additional billing; apparently, I'm wrong. Might I add, Brian and I were 'disconnected' during our initial call. Rude. These men lack integrity and will play semantics to absolve themselves. My BlueLink service STILL isn't connected with no offer to resolve. ZERO attempt to restore my confidence as a consumer, just too bad. Please be sure to get ALL agreements explicitly written, as to save yourself grief later. Or better yet visit another Genesis dealer that appreciates their customers, as I leased a second Genesis from a location not far away with a far superior experience. I waited months to post this, as I hoped the salesperson would fulfill his end of our deal. Didn't happen, so I reached out to Genesis Customer Care. I was told they have no jurisdiction on the sales side to resolve and can only facilitate the conversation. If Keyes is unresponsive, call them. NO ONE should have this experience, so if this helps one person, then I've done my job. read more

We have been in about 5 times now for various minor things, and so far I am incredibly impressed with their service and facility. We have been treated with nothing but smiles and courteous staff in every departments, their waiting area is fabulous with not only drinks, snacks, coffee and TV's, but also computers you can use if needed while there. The staff go out of their way to be polite, and walk up to the car to greet you and welcome you before even having a chance to get out! This is the service department, not the sales ppl and that is the part that is so nice. Even though we aren't there to buy a car they still roll out the red carpet. I aslo appreciate the fact that they wash our car everytime no matter how small the issue. As far as the car itself, we LOVE it. It's 5 years old and so far we've done nothing other than a couple of minor recalls which the dealer handled quickly and efficiently, brakes, tirese and normal maint. things...I will buy Hyundai again 100% read more

Took my first car to get serviced for the first time as my current place is too far in Thousand Oaks and I live closer to Van Nuys. No appointment, took my car in told me specifics, and would call me with updates. That evening my car was done, covered under warranty and I picked up on Monday as I missed the call but deal with enterprise and rental car was great and affordable. I was helped by John who was great, answered all my questions and more and took great care of my car that now runs better than when I took it to the service place in T.O. After some bad, factory-farm experiences at CarMax and a few dealerships (see my review for the North Hollywood Toyota torture chamber), I was not looking forward to visiting another car place. But I wanted a new SUV and saw some great deals on the Keyes Hyundai website. I emailed them about one and Richard Chan emailed me right back to confirm that it was still available. I also connected with Richard Martinez to arrange a test drive that afternoon. When I arrived at the dealership, I was immediately greeted by several people and offered water and coffee. Richard Martinez had the car all ready for me, explained all of its features, and then we drove it around town a bit. He sat down with me afterward to talk about financing and he managed to get me the price I needed for my budget. He was completely honest and itemized everything included in the total price. After I had agreed on the deal, he handed me over to the finance guy, Jason, who was just as friendly and knowledgeable as Richard. Everything was explained to me, all questions answered, and I never felt pressured or bamboozled. He put all the documents on a thumb drive for me, and when I was done, there was a freshly washed and gassed Santa Fe waiting in the parking lot! Richard hooked my phone up to the bluetooth system, gave me his cell phone number in case I had any questions, and I drove off in my awesome new SUV. Like most people, i hate the time wasted and stress imposed on the car buying/leasing process. I think most people are trained to lie from day 1. Keyes earned my trust. "what do you think of this vs the civic?" "the civic is a fine car. my job is to teach you why should love this car, not hate theirs" Thats a class act. Also, i very much liked the no b.s. numbers. Round 1 was "this is the very best we can do, not $5 less". i loved that. 4 stars instead of 5 just because it took a very long time to get out of there. They can use a better refreshment area if i need to sit there that long. Good group of people there. read more

Just purchased Hyundai Sonata 2015 Limited with Tech and ultimate package. The number one reason we came back to purchase the vehicle is because of our salesperson, George Arau. He greeted us with the friendliness and never pressure us. We visited the dealer 3 times before we purchased. Whatever concern we have, George always take care of it quickly. Coming from owning a couple of luxury cars in the past (Jaguar, Range Rover and Lexus). Even though it won't be fare to compare those cars to Hyundai but the service I receive from George, Robert and Anthony is first rate. Yesterday, my wife and I purchased a new Tucson from Jason Jhee and finance manager Anthony Lucas. Little hassle, great price, great team, means we closed a deal. They were both up front and informative through the whole process. Its nice to do business with honest hard working young Gentlemen like them. They get five stars and the only reason I gave 4 was because Keys just couldn't work in that sunroof and 15k miles.. I would recommend this location and these guys to anyone! Avoid this dealership like the plague. I've never had such an awful experience with a dealership in my life. Beginning with the rep that sold the car, whom was later fired a week later for wrong doings, to the finance dept (whom they claim they have nothing to do with) that pushes you to sign pages and pages of documents without the need to stop and read them, and the process of returning the car. What they don't tell you is if you don't lease another car with them, 6 months after you return the car you can expect a $400 disposition fee which you must pay. After I told them I was never made aware of this fee, their response was it doesn't matter whether you knew or not, all that matters is we have your signature. After speaking to some past Hyundai owners, I can say this is a repeated pattern with them. In addition to this thievery of a fee, especially when the car was returned in great condition with less than 10k miles, they also bill you for unwarranted damages. I got the car inspected by Hyundai's rep before I turned the car in and the inspector noted that nothing needed to be fixed before turning it in since whatever small damages there were fell within reason. Then 6 months later I get a $490 bill stating there were damages I need to pay for. When I asked to see what these were they sent a report that left me dumbfounded. They had someone take photos with a ruler by the car, with the placement soooo far off so that it looks as if there are damages twice as large as they are in the photo and with one not even being visible. Then they inflate the costs to fix these damages and you have no way of going to see the car since they claim they sold it already. Leaving you with no way to disprove them or get another quote. I'm disgusted by this company. Especially given this time in our lives where dealerships are working to help those whom are struggling during the pandemic. I'm not in the financial position where I can pay this atrocious bill and they won't even work with me on establishing a payment plan. Do yourself a favor and just stay away from Hyundai all together. They could care less about their customers unlike many of the other great dealerships out there. Hope this saves some of you the stress and disappointment that comes with getting one of their cars. read more

I had a pleasant experience at Keyes Van Nuys. From the moment I walked in and was greeted with some freshly baked cookies to the welcoming staff; I forgot I was at a car dealership. I recently got a 2017 Elantra and I couldn't be more happy with it. Not only does the vehicle exceed my expectations but my sales person John Nelson was a pleasant to work with. He got me everything that I wanted and he did not make me feel pressured and reassured me that he was going to make sure I was happy with my trade in from my Sonata (which I thought I never wanted to trade it in, but love my Elantra if not more than my Hyundai Sonata). There was no gimmicks and like some other dealerships I did not feel like John was out just for a sale. He truly cared that I was happy and that I got the best deal, which I feel I did. i bought a 2017 elantra and now i find out that the white paint is faulty from the factory and they are now saying that since it is past the three year warranty that they wont reimburse me for the paint repair. that just shows me how much of a piece of crap the hyundais really are. i highly recommend that you go to a different car dealer to buy your next car and forget about this dealer. the quality goes out before you leave the lot. read more

Very unprofessional and slimy sales tactics. Stay very far away. Went with my son to help him try to purchase a 2012 Elantra. Their website inventory showed them having a few dozen 2012 Elantras and my son had been emailing all week with one of the sales managers who encouraged him to come in. Salesman is very friendly. Get there and after a few trips to their offsite lots (their main lot is extremely small) it becomes obvious they have almost none. Eventually they look up their inventory and find they have 3. OK, frustrating, but the model is popular and they were indeed busy that day, so maybe they just hadn't been keeping the inventory list up to date. I give them the benefit of the doubt. Then start to negotiate price for a Elantra that is supposed to arrive in a few weeks. My son has a quote from Keyes via USAA credit union for the model he wants. This is where it gets slimy. They use the old dealer installed alarm scam. Yes, they would sell a vehicle at that price if they had one, but all of their vehicles come with a *dealer* installed alarm system at $700 (or maybe it was $800, not sure). Then they go one better! And there's an addition $700 (or $800) charge to "register" the alarm. Pure profit for the dealer. In their great magnanimity, they offer drop one of the $700 (or $800) dollar charges. Gee thanks. We walked. I hate dealers who play these type of games. If the car is popular, fine. They can sell it at a higher price than one that is not. But be upfront about it. Don't force dealer installed alarms or paint protection or scotch guard on the seats to add profit. With a dealer like that, who knows what other extra fees and charges are waiting further down the sales process. Ended up dealing with multiple other dealers finding the car my son wanted and every one was much more straightforward and professional to deal with. He ended up buying his car from one of them the next weekend. I advise car buyers to avoid Keyes Hyndai in Van Nuys like the plague. read more

After deciding between repairing our current car or putting that money towards monthly payments on a new vehicle we decided to start looking at possible options for a new car. We came to Keyes Hyundai after going to Mercedes, Volvo, Honda, and Kia. After checking out safety ratings and fuel economy we thought the Hyundai Sonata might be a good fit for us. First off, it took well over 10 minutes to get anyone to help us. It was not even busy in there. The stock was decent, but in desperate need of washing. We went inside to see leasing rates, and they are outrageous. It would have costs us only $12 more a month to get a fully loaded C Class Mercedes. The Sonata we picked was comparable to the Kia Optima (turbo edition). After telling them how much Kia's was they still wanted us to "help them out" and pay them $14 MORE a month for a car that's worth $3,000 less! They didn't seem to understand the concept that people tend to like value. After going back and forth five times we finally had to leave. The manager had the audacity to say that he wanted to help out the dealer we were working with since he just had a baby, but, and he then tells that we don't care. He did this out loud and in front of the other customers and dealers. We said he was being inappropriate and walked out. This is a business transaction the personal state of us or anyone there is irrelevant to our financial goals and wants from a new car. He also said we were not serious buyers for not wanting to close that exact night after test driving only two vehicles. Since, you know, a serious person walks into a multi-year contract without putting serious thought, consideration, or research towards an item that costs almost $30,0000. We got a call from a higher up a day later. He tells us to come back since we were supposedly close to making a deal. After their outrageous behavior I will never step back in there. If you want great and polite service and a car with a similar leasing price visit Galpin Volvo (amazing stock & facility) or Valencia Mercedes (the hands down best rates and car buying experience I have ever had). read more

Worse than horrible customer service, is the lack of people skills. Horrible experience. Went in to do a test drive of a vehicle, only they had in stock. Did not meet the sales contact briefly before being handed off to a sales assistant. The test drive was short and sweet, the car sells itself. But I had questions and it was like pulling teeth. I specifically asked what are the cool features and where in the vehicle they were located. I got some quick bs and then dead silence. I tried to start dialogue but sales person seriously texted the entire time ignoring me. They had a pre-destined route only, no surprises. No freeway test drive. To add insult to injury, the car had minimal gas because their policy was to sell a car with a full tank. BS balony they want you to do a quick test drive and just buy it. When the test drive ended waited 15 mins for the sales manager. Did I mention the place was practically empty inside and a few clients outside. There were several other sales managers entertaining themselves by talking crap about the few clients on property. Seriously was I invisible or a fly on the wall? How dare they behave that way. Overall they all gave off a off putting vibe of superiority, boredom and impatience. Original sales manager shows up, leads me to a table. I sit and person just stands; eyeing me. So do you like the car and are you buying? I had mentioned I was only interested in test driving not ready to buy yet, I was not ready financially. I was clear I wanted to buy cash only. Not interested in any financing or loans or down payments. No trade in either. I said it was a matter of pride for me to buy it completely. My hard earned money cost me blood/sweat/ heartache, etc. I said I needed time to think and crunch some numbers. I had some unexpected expenses (needed a few thousand) but was interested in the car and wanted to make sure it was the car I was hyping up in my brain. It was my first test drive ever of this car type and seems rational I would not buy right away. It is not rocket science for a client to need more than 1 test drive. Seriously, who in their right mind just shows up driving by themselves and buys a car when they don't have a second person to drive the first car home? That's stupid. I told them from the very beginning, it was just a test drive and I wanted to see the car in person only, thus mid-week visit. I said I knew what I wanted but I have other factors to consider in terms of passengers and wanted to bring them along on a weekend. I said I understood I was risking someone else purchasing the car but was willing to take that chance. Not ready is not ready. The sales person had the audacity to tell me it was the last car of this specific configuration in all of CA and I needed to leave a down payment or just finance the money I was missing. Seriously?! They either did not pay attention or disregarded everything I said on purpose. I held my tongue. I said it was okay, if the car was mine it would still be there if I came back in a few days. Or it was not meant to be. Wrapped it up and left. Even though it was exactly the car I wanted and no one else seems to have it. I will not be returning to this dealership even if it is true that they have the only one left in CA. Ultimately the bad customer service and people skills, makes me not want to give them my money or business. There is no deal they could offer me that will ever get me to step got there again or any of its Keyes dealerships. Buy the way, there were no deal or incentives offered. The quote given was MSRP. No discounts or rebates. I know there was at least $2k up for grabs. Thanks but no thanks. It is important you do your research, especially if paying cash. If you finance you are already agreeing to be ripped off, so you are already digging your own grave, so who cares.It is not your money, it is from a bank or their financing dept. Sure you have a debt but it is something some people are willing to get all dangled up in. read more

This guys worked as a team to help me get a new vehicle as I tend to have an unfavorable credit score. They really trust their customers and whenever I called back to check something out or have any further questions they gladly provided me with information and was never placed on hold for longer than 5 min. I also had a bad fuse to charge my phone within the first week and what I thought I had to leave my car for like hours in the service department, had it back within 20 min.
