They'll overcharge and try to rip you off. I went in for some simple parts to put my bumper back on. They sold me $190 worth. It turns out I needed $7 worth. And they fought me on the return of the extras as well. Unreal. Plus, even after I bought some new brakes from them, they tried to upsell me on $3,000 worth of replacement parts. On top of that, their labor is ridiculously expensive per hour. They will push as hard as they can to sell you as much as they can. They take advantage of the Toyota name to lure people in. Came in to just search for a car with no intention of making any deals that day. We were greeted immediately by Fernando, whom we told we simply wanted to explore the cars by ourselves. After a little while, we checked back in with Fernando, asking tons of questions. He offered us very candid, straightforward answers and was incredibly helpful. He never gave off the impression of trying to make the sale but instead came across as someone who made himself available as a resource. We wound up buying a used RAV4, and we were very thankful to have met Fernando. I would highly recommend getting help from Fernando, as he will try to do right by you. This review is for the SERVICE DEPARTMENT! I just bought a brand new truck for a different Toyota dealership and I was told that I could take it to any Certified Toyota service office and they will honour the warranty. Now with that being said I noticed that my radio wasn't working properly. I got my truck Friday night and I noticed it Saturday morning. I figured I would take it to Keyes on Monday since they seem to be close to my office. I pulled up to the Keyes service center and I noticed everyone suddenly was on a telephone call. I literally saw people, as I was pulling up, grab there telephones off their desk and acted like they were on a call. I figured they saw the other dealerships sticker and plate signs still on my car. Well I got out of my truck and saw a gentleman walking into his office and I told him "since you're they only one not pretending to take a call do you think you can help me out for a sec". We walked over to the truck and he a asked me s series of stupid questions : "when did you purchase this truck?" I answered " This Past Friday" he said "did you buy it used" me "does it look used?" him "no, it looks like a 2012 model" me "then why would you ask me that" he shrugged him "is it in warranty" I said " if you know it's a 2012 model, and you know I bought it on Friday, why the f*ck would it not be in warranty" he said "well sir how many mile have you driven this truck, if you drove it more that the amount of miles stated in the warranty it will void it" I said "Where the f*ck do you think I have driven this truck in 3 days to void the mileage warranty.... Mars!" I continued " That this the dumbest thing I've heard from a professional all year! Can we look at my radio now!" The Service agent turns on my truck and then turns on the radio and he says "yeah it looks like there is something wrong with your radio" I said " Really?! No way?! I thought I was here to get some Chinese takeaway!" He said " I recommend you take your truck back to the dealership you bought it from" I said "why, you can't do anything? He stated "no, this is something that the dealership should take care of" He continued "maybe they'll give you a new truck, bro" It took everything I had to not smash this guys face in. Beyond awful! Yesterday, me and my husband stopped by to pick up a Prius. I mean we were ready to drive one home. We parked and came out to look at the cars. The group of salesmen (most of them were older/experienced guys) looked at us, and..... sent over a younger guy to help. Let me just say how stupid in their prejudgement these guys were. Yes, we do look young - about 24 - actually we are both over 30. So, salesmen immediately thought we do not worth their time because we probably won't buy anything anyway... and sent over a young unexperienced guy. There is nothing wrong with the young guy except that he didn't know anything about a Prius! Prius is the most selling car in the US and he didn't even know where or how do I plug in my iPhone! When I asked "what more can you tell me about this Prius" he just mumbled something about great milage. It was insane :) He didn't know the difference in models, packages, and simple things that every salesman ought to know. Anyways, long story short, he took us inside to "sign the papers". All we needed from him is to get some numbers down for the package we wanted. He could not help us at all or answer any of our questions except saying we need to fill out all the papers or he will get in trouble. Insane right? I was NOT buying anything yet - they didn't even have the premium package I wanted, yet he was making us to fill out papers?! An hour later, we learned it was his second week there and some relative of his works there as a manager or something like that. So now we know why this guy got a job there. Well, we figured that they won't take us seriously anyway until they run our credit and see that money is not the issue here but the car/package we want and they don't have. I was seriously about to walk out at that point! Finally, they run my credit and saw that I am a good buyer - IMMEDIATELY, the manager RUNS into the office and starts selling me every freaking Prius they have on the lot. His first offer - $40 K for the new basic Prius! OMG, seriously? Who did he think we were, 2 uneducated idiots? Then, he gave me such high percentage - I was blown away! My bank gave me 3 points less for my BMW! Anyways, the whole idiotic show lasted for over 2 hours. Them - trying to come down to a $30 K from the original 40K for the Prius I didn't even want, and making it sound like they are giving me the best deal in the city! Finally, I could not take this immature circus any longer. Such unprofessionalism, prejudgement, stupidity and incompetence...I was blown away! We walked away. We came out, got in our BMW and drove away. Now I know why I've been driving BMWs instead of Toyota - where I am treated like a human being and a customer no matter how I look. If it wasn't for Prius - I would never come there in the first place. I am glad we left. I could see they were biting their nails off seeing how stupid their decision was to send an incompetent young salesman to "help" us. Someone could make some money that night - but it didn't happen. The NEXT day I bought a brand new Prius (the way I wanted it) from the Toyota of Hollywood. Good service, EXCELLENT salesman named ALI (He was great all the way and beyond) and a great price! Here are the facts: I showed up to Keyes on a Sunday morning, was immediately approached by a salesperson, and was asked what was I looking for. I told him a 2012 Highlander Limited. I was with my wife and son, and I had in hand all the research I'd done about invoice costs, MSRPs, etc for the 2012 Highlander LImited. I knew everything that the Limited included, and I asked him if he had the color I wanted in stock, along with one or two key options. The guy then tells me - "the car you want is 50k". I'm like, uh, no. You see, I went to Edmunds.com and KBB and other sites and I researched published invoice prices, MSRP, and true market values - what most people end up paying. Excluding options, you usually should pay about 800-1000 above Invoice, but NOT above MSRP. I'm showing the guy the paperwork. I'm like, 50k? Dude, I can get into a Lexus at 50k. He's like "the car you want is 50k". Again, I show him the paperwork, I say MSRP on the Limited AWD is like $37.1k. I try to explain the logic of the research and the guy gets ticked off, starts condescending to me and explaining things like options and destination charges, etc., all of which I understand of course, and had priced in (my true # w/ options was $40k). He even walks to a Highlander Limited in the showroom and starts showing me the MSRP, which of course is akin to my numbers. Then he suggests that the car I want with the options I want is "popular" so i have to be willing to pay more. Right. We walked out, but along the way we met some nice people. The young lady at the info desk was nice, and she allowed our little guy to take a balloon. Another sales guy had walked up to us, and he politely said hello -- he seemed ok. However, nice people aside, I think the issue here is endemic at Keyes; the salespeople are trained to collect as much above MSRP as possible. Most people probably don't fall for that, but the fact is, I was ready to make a deal and they were totally unmoved from ridiculous price quoting. This suggests that there must be a market for people who pay above MSRP for nearly any car. You'd think this model would fail miserably, but somehow it doesn't. Keyes is probably rich. Last thing; I read the reviews before coming in. I admit fully I should have stayed away. You Yelpers are correct. If you are coming here, and you don't want to pay above MSRP, you better get ready to battle. If you doubt the MSRP inflation, just check out their inventory and pricing before you come in. Either go online or call. If you don't want to deal with that, just go to another dealership. The sales process will be easier. read more

After reading the other reviews, I felt compelled to write my own. Car shopping and dealing with car salespeople fall somewhere on my list of favs between being drilled on without Novocaine and getting stung by a jellyfish....so not usually my favorite place to be. This experience proved to be different. After buying and selling cars for many years..it's important to know a couple of things..know what you want to drive and do your homework and research models and packages offered (do this on line). Toyota has some amazing deals at the moment, so long as you don't mind the occassional acceleration of your car against your will.... OK just kidding.. Knowing that we were going to lease and knowing that there was a national deal going on, gave us a bit of control. We were in and out of the dealer in an hour and a half with a new 2010 Rav for $199 a month plus tax. This could not have been quicker. So what do you need to have to accomplish this? A decent credit score 750 and up. Down payment money (in our case $1350, which included the first month payment). A job, although they took our word on this. That's it. Save yourself time, Only talk to a sales manager, as most salespeople need to check with their manager about everything anyway.... with the national deal offered there was no haggling and the terms were in our case, pretty good. All in all, I can't say that this dealership is better or not than any other, but at the moment Toyota needs to move cars, so they are making it easy. read more

I wish I had read all of these negative reviews before I visited this dealership. This was the first time I was compelled to go to Yelp just to write a negative review about a company. The salesman we met with clearly did not want us to purchase a car. He explicitly said that no dealership offers cars at the MSRP and they all add features to drive up the price of the car. Because I was looking at a Prius, he said they sold themselves so they have no incentive to sell them. He spoke condescendingly, at one point even drawing a crude picture of a car to explain the difference between purchasing and leasing a vehicle, even though I never asked about the process. I went to Miller Toyota today, and had an incredible experience with Sheryl. She was honest, straight-forward, and sold the car to me with no games. I got a call to let me know of a recall centered around an accelerator issue. They wanted me to bring in my car to be serviced as soon as possible. Service manager Herb Lopez was awesome. Not only did they fix the problem they called me about, but they also did a complimentary tune-up and washed my car. My car has not run this well in more than 10 years. And it has not been this clean in a very long time! They provided the kind of service that has slowly disappeared in the world of big business. I'll tell you where not to buy a car: Keyes Toyota in Van Nuys. While working to make a final decision about a car I really liked and discussing appropriate pricing yesterday, I was treated very rudely by multiple salesmen. The first one flat out lied to me and told me the price of the car could not change because of what it was listed as online. That's fine, he's a salesman so I expect him to lie on some level. I let him talk and be patronizing, and discuss his credentials and I remained respectful. Then he tried to make it seem like I had no idea what I was talking about as far as car pricing. I think more than anything, they were offput by having a woman come in and lobbying aggressively for a fair, affordable price. Then a final salesman who had not been a part of the conversation at all up until that point told me "we sell 700 cars a month, we don't need your business," and "You've been here for like 9 hours trying to buy a car, wasting our time." I could not believe what I was hearing. This was in front of my whole family. More than anything I was appalled at their low standard for customer service. Not only was the salesman's timeline totally incorrect (we were there for a couple of hours and then allowed the salesman to move on and work with other people while we talked) but I have never had a salesmen address me so rudely in my life. He hadn't even been a part of the conversation and he was extremely aggressive for no reason at all. In addition, the same salesman told me, "it's not that much of an investment," dismissing me after I told him that it was a big investment for me. Who in their right mind tells someone who is about to buy a car that it's not that much of an investment? Especially when they know absolutely nothing about your financial situation? Car Sales 101 says you don't do that. I don't even sell cars and I know you don't do that. Also, are they getting paid so much money that $20,000 doesn't seem like a big investment? Perhaps if I was buying a Lexus I would have been treated better because they would have seen it as a REAL investment. It is not the place of someone selling you something to diminish the hard-earned money and time you are investing in their product. No matter how much money you make, treating a car as a minor investment seems reckless to me. It is not reasonable to consider making such a large investment and to be treated like trash by multiple employees. It is perfectly reasonable for a person to take their time making this kind of decision. It is perfectly reasonable to think and work on numbers to ensure a car falls within your budget. I'd say, if you have a choice, avoid Keyes altogether. There are a lot of other Toyota dealerships in Southern California. Even when I was able to get the car to a price that made a little more sense, I had to decline the offer and end the negotiation because of how poorly I was treated. It's a real shame too especially because I was prepared to purchase a car that day. The final message here is: they sell way to many cars here to work for you and they will become hostile if the conversation isn't going the way they want. At the end of my visit another salesman chased me outside and tried to give me the car at a more viable price, but by then the damage was done. I just didn't feel comfortable giving my "not-so-big investment" to a company that didn't seem to value my business at all. I'll be taking my "not-so-big investment" elsewhere. I am very offended and would go back to ask for an apology, but at this point I don't even feel comfortable stepping back on their lot. read more

I told the sales person at Keyes to look at the car with the VIN number and reported back to me. I was told the car was available at the written quoted price send to me by TRUE CAR DOT COM. She agreed that the price in the Email was correct and the VIN was correct, and the car was available. When I went to KEYES two hours later, I was asked to wait for an hour and then I was offered up another car at about $2000 more. (1) There was no need to lie about the price. (2) There was no need to lie about the availability of a car with a quoted VIN. (2) There was no need to play game with my time and made me wait an hour. (2) There was no need to advertise on the internet with TRUE CAR DOT COM if you never intend to sell any car at the fleet rate. And you always prefer to negotiate, as you said. JUST BE HONEST. First let me start by saying whenever you shop for a car if you don't have a good attitude or are rude, just don't expect to get good service. You get what you give. That said, I went shopping for a car this weekend after an extensive internet search for a car that would meet both my budget, safety, reliability & versatility standards. I knew I wanted to purchase a car this weekend and had already researched several makes/models etc and was out to do a few test drives. I went to Keyes Lexus dealer next door to Keyes Toyota and spent about 20 minutes on the lot but unfortunately wasn't greeted or approached by anyone at all. I walked over to Keyes Toyota where i was promptly greeted with a large smile by sales rep Anthony. He was very informative and I appreciated his no pressure approach. He walked with me through several cars & suv's getting the keys to more than a handful while I inspected each one. I saw a 2011 Toyota Highlander & fell in love. We took it for a test drive, went through all the features and Anthony answered all my questions. He was unsure about the mpg but was very honest & told me he would look into the details and let me know shortly. I appreciated his honesty & told him such. I left the dealership & told him I would come back later in the day with my husband to get his opinion & do another test drive. Anthony was not pushy, simply gave me his card, took my number and told me that he hoped to see me later in the day. I came back test drove the car again later in the afternoon with my husband who also loved the car and we decide to move forward with the purchase. Anthony was working on another sale but his partner Nick was happy to pick up where he left off and assist me with the purchase. Nick was also very honest, made every attempt to help us and didn't try to "sell" us at all. Amazingly this car was a special deal because it was actually marked for a dealer to dealer purchase and actually sold but the other dealer didn't come to pick it up so Evan, the used car manager gave the okay to sell it to me at a price even LOWER than the was giving the other dealership. We went through a few rounds of negotiations, I was calm and able to request additional value on my trade in due to recent servicing on my current car. Evan & Nathan worked together to increase the trade in amount offer. It was literally the deal of a lifetime and no other dealership could even come close to the deal. I checked every other major dealer in a 30 mile vicinity to ensure I was getting the best deal and nothing even close to the deal that Evan, Anthony, Nathan & Nick put together for me! I ended up with a brand new car 2011 Toyota Highlander with 35k miles still under warranty and the branch manager at my credit union shook my hand because she had never seen a deal where the total amount of the loan including the trade in was less than the value of the new car. According to them, I got my car 10k under assessed value and more than 4k under blue book!!! I also appreciated Harry in Finance, he was patient with me as I read every line of the paperwork and through the edits, he didn't lose his composure at all even though he was swamped. To top it all off, at the end of the sale, I realized that I forgot my checkbook and Nick was kind enough to follow me home & return the checks so that I didn't need to go back & forth to the dealership. Yes, it was pretty much divine intervention that this deal happened but it HAPPENED and was a collaborative effort of Anthony, Nick, Nathan & Evan. They were equitable, candid, pleasant and very accommodating throughout the entire process. Their service was bar-none the best I have received at a car dealership. I hope that their superiors see this review and honor them. If ANYONE is looking for a new or used car, I would absolutely recommend you see this team of gentlemen. It was the first time I went into a car dealership and didn't feel hustled or treated like I had no idea what I was talking about from being a woman. This is a review for the SERVICE department. I decided to give them a try after another shop gave me what sounded like ridiculous pricing for maintenance work. Their pricing was upfront and reasonable (under $400 for the 30,000 mile service with transmission flush), making the appointment was easy (ask for Mario) and the work was done in about 4 hours. The have a shuttle with a 7 mile range so getting dropped off and picked up was no problem. They indicated some additional work I needed, but were not pushy about selling it. After chatting with the salesman, who's name will not be given out (at this time), I was pushed into the "money talk"...UGH...I had gotten a quote on the internet , which I was very pleased about...WELL...kiss that sucker good bye! They would not honor it!!! WTF? I do not have a problem getting up and walking out...which is exactly what I did only to have not one not two but three people come running after me! Did I do something wrong? NO! I just did not like the attitude of the finance person...would not honor the quote I received by telling me they can get more money for it now that there is such a demand...well, screw you Mr. Still NO deal!!! What I really dislike about this process is: they get your Social Security number, phone number, and have a credit report drawn...THEY HAVE ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFORMATION at hand...and would not give it to me to be destroyed! Took my 2005 Toyota Sienna in for dealer service for the first time. My motivation was to take care of a couple minor recall warranty services. I was also due for an oil change, for which I found a $29.95 coupon on Keyes' website. I arrived around 7:45 AM and immediately was helped by Mark Gilli in the service department. Mark was professional, helpful, and not pushy. One of the recall items didn't show up on his computer for my vehicle, but I had paperwork from Toyota and Mark said they should be able to do it at no charge to me (and that is what happened). Later in the day I received a call from Mark to advise that I needed front brake work (which I already knew) and that my transmission fluid was very dark (which I did not know). I decided not to do either of these on that day, but it was good to know about the transmission fluid and I will schedule that shortly. I liked it that Mark was not at all pushy when he informed me of these issues. It helped me to trust Keyes Toyota more, in spite of the largely negative reviews on Yelp. I will likely take my car to Keyes Toyota for service again. read more

Went there twice for a deal in the paper (Driving 22 miles each way). Was constantly lied to and mislead. They don't want to help they just want to make a sale and will even stab each other in the back to get it. The second time we went there again for the same deal and once again discovered we were lied to the manager had no sympathy. Wouldn't admit his employees lied to us no matter how we laid it out. I wouldn't go there if it weren't for the specials they have in the papers. If you're not going there for the special deal go somewhere else. We dealt with Hammer Toyota twice (for both my mom and I) and it was a much more pleasant experience. These guys are assholes. read more

I had a recall on my car and came early, the customer service director cane right out when he saw me stood there barely a min. And got someone to help me. aaron helped me out amazing customer service and friendly . Had to wait 2 hours and aaron offer to get a charter driver to take me home but i said i will wait . The lounge is amazing . They hav a very clean lounge, great accomodations. read more

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE This is the place where all the worst clown car salespeople go to work. A complete collection of the worst of the worst. Beware of the salespeople waiting out in the parking lot to pounce on you as you try to get out of your car. They are so aggressive and lack any respect for their customers... let alone each other. I was simply attempting to return a leased 2011 Camry Hybrid that is at the end of the lease term and they bounced me around like a ball. As soon as each one of these clowns realized I was not interested in another car they passed me on to someone else. After running through 6 clowns I was told that they are full up and don't take back leased cars that they did not do the original lease on. Originally I leased in Palm Springs but now live in Sherman Oaks less than a mile away... and no matter that they did all the service on the car. I asked to speak to a manager and was confronted by the head clown of this operation named Hamid who expressed absolutely no interest and told me that they don't have any room for the return. Seriously?? Do they not realize they should treat their loyal customers equally as well on the way out as they would on the way in. Only problem with this clown operation is that they treat their new customers with such disrespect - you can imagine what happens at the end of the relationship. I've never seen anything like this operation. Keys is a huge company that dominates Van Nuys with all the different dealerships they have. But check any of them out on Yelp and see for yourself. How is this possible? I've experienced it first hand. As a consumer I vote with my wallet. And I can promise this... I will never consider Toyota again in the future and I will NEVER consider anything with the KEYS name on it regardless of the dealership. Nice job pissing away 6 years of goodwill by being stupid. 5 yrs ago I went here and they told me I needed a bunch of things done that had just been done. Last week I figured, it's been 5yrs maybe they changed. They told me that I needed $1000 worth of work done. I went for a second opinion to my old dealership, Fronteir Toyota in Santa Clarita with my girl Julie. Turns out that I will need to get my front brakes done in about 5000 miles and to do them now would be a waste of money. 25 miles for a girl that I can trust? priceless! read more

Shopping for a car at Keys Toyota was one of the worst experiences of my life. I could NOT believe how shameless these guys were. I seriously almost expected it to be a joke. I went in with the interest to lease a Toyota Corolla back in the summer and the treatment I received was nothing short of harassment. For almost an hour I told them I was not interested and they would not let me walk. They kept stalling and stalling, telling me they were checking with their boss and running my credit. The sales guy had asked me to write monthly payments that would work for me then he kept leaving to do the above tactics and he would come back with numbers nowhere NEAR my figures and repeat the tactic over and over. He would also shove a piece of paper at me and say "Do I have your promise that we will do business today?" Seriously!? WTF is that #$%&! I got up and tried to leave but they literally followed me out the door. I finally stalled and said I had to take an emergency phone call and left and just never came back. What the hell!? Look guys I understand someone trying to make a living as much as the next person but that was just ridiculous. That is not cool and not a legitimate way to treat customers. I don't know if you were trying to harass, bully, or pressure me into buying something but it didn't work. Careful who you do you that stuff to because they might shut you down or worse. Never ever will go back to and buy from any of the Keyes group dealerships. Was told today by a confrontational and rude salesman (Osy), that customers are NOT ALLOWED to look at cars on showroom floor without assistance! Manager (Veronica) was apathetic and brushed us away... No worries, will gladly buy elsewhere. Great example of how inadequate employees ruin the business. read more
